E.g, isale Eko/Marina Central Business District (CBD) was built in the middle of Old settlements that had been in existence for hundreds of years, which affected its expansion. But the state government cleverly built other CBDs at Victoria Island and Ikoyi (and recently Lekki axis and Eko Atlantic city). But shanties also kept popping up here and there due to influx of low income earners/migrants who can't afford decent housing.

But Abuja was for the most part virgin land that was acquired by the FG, and deliberately planned from scratch. However, its original plan is no longer being followed as communities of shanties are taking over its landscape. I guess part of the reason is because even the government no longer has enough money to follow through its developmental ambitions for the FCT. Plus, the influx of Nigerians from low income cadre, who can't afford decent housing and are setting up shanties.

I hope it doesn't get to that, but that may be bound to happen if the North remains restive and if poverty doesn't abate because it would mean the majority of those moving there would poorer Nigerians who will end up creating more shanties. It is already happening, with several IDP camps popping up all over there. Most of the idp's camps in Abuja are populated by Northerns escaping boko haram, bandits, and other fallout of insecurity in the North.

People go to Lagos to make money but when they eventually make the money in Lagos, they carry the money to Dubai, London, Maltese, etc to invest and spend, thereby leaving Lagos with no money to spend on infrastructure!
The same is true of all our cities including Abuja. If I may ask, how many times have you heard that the leaders of Japan left Japan to get medical help in America? Nothing like that will happen to leaders of other developed countries.
How many times have you heard that the children of these leaders went out of the country for schooling and never returned home again?
All the money that would have been wasted in medical tourism is being used to develop their hospitals and when they send their children out to school, it will be on purpose!
The truth is that Africa and Nigeria will keep becoming poorer everyday due to the actions of her own people while the developed countries will keep becoming richer with more beautiful infrastructures.

Right from the beginning, Abuja has never been beautiful to me, A city which has no city centre, And everywhere looks like a ghost town at night!

All these are money away from Nigeria and we are here saying that Lagos should be like Dubai, Tokyo, etc, how?

Simple answer: Bulk of the revenues generated in Tokyo, NY, London etc stays in those cities. In the case of Lagos revenues generated from her critical infrastructure are taken to Abuja, where it is later shared to all states in the country, according to landmass, population and other ridiculous criteria.

When someone earning 35k in a month(not even up to 100$) marry,give birth to like 7 children and is still planning on birthing more and carrying side chicks...how do u expect Lagos to develop?if u go to places like Ikotun market and see the population congestion,the rate at which people pollute everywhere,unkempt children all over,u will understand that the Nigerian government is useless but Nigerians are adding more problems more themselves

Tokyo alone has over 38million residents, that's two times higher than Lagos population, And yet it's not polluted, And one of the best cities in the world!!

From taxes paid by Yorubas to colonial and regional regional governments.
Examples:
1. Apapa port was established in 1913
2. Lagos International Airport, which was later reanamed to MMA was established in 1947
3. The industrial estates of APAPA, Ikeja, Ilupeju, Ogba etc. All built during regional government.

I know Uyo is not there yet but I'm hopeful Akwa ibom next Governor will concentrate on Infrastructures and beautifying Akwa ibom state in General.
I just pray we don't turn to Lagos that is unplanned and to populated or Abuja that is almost being over run with no Drinage system. Thankfully Akpabio Constructed a Drinage system in Uyo(Thank you Godswill)

All Akwa ibom need now is more investments into the state, big investments and Roads should be Constructed with sidewalks and cover drains.
I want to Thank all the Governors that have governed Akwa ibom state from Attah down to Udom now, I know you guys aren't perfect and you have stoled enough to last your generationa but nevertheless you guys kept alot of Ground to.

I want to Thank Udom for Ibomair, I know some Ibomites might think it a waste but I stay in Abuja and I can tell you I see Ibomair planes at least 3 times daily on the move(On an average)
With Ibomair many will love to invest in Akwa ibom seeing how successful it has become.

U should also be reminded that Tokyo is almost 2 times Lagos landmass (so the traffic wouldn't be much)
Also Tokyo has lot of amazing infrastructure which no other African city can boost of

Say what u know, tokyo is not 2 times lagos landmass. Only thing is just as lagos developed and expanded into ogun same happened to tokyo
