SAMAJ:
Following the earlier directive on the suspension of new SIM registration by network operators, the Federal government has directed all operators in the country to disconnect every SIM card not synchronized with valid National Identity Number (NIN) by December 30th 2020.

This came after an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the Communications industry convened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) on Monday, December 14, 2020.

The meeting in its resolution insisted that all telecom operators must from Thursday, December 16, 2020 require all their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records.

A way to monitor our calls.... Think about that again so you can understand.

This policy is useless because it would put innocent people into trouble. Criminals would rob you of your phone and use it to make all the calls they need and throw your sim card away after they are done. The police would then arrest you.

Password your sim. Very simple.

So you suddenly realize that covid 19 second wave is real just because you don't want to go and upgrade your SIM information?

Laziness is a disease.

Laziness always make you to continue giving excuses upon excuses instead of getting the job done.

It's not like supplying your NIN will take up to 1 hour to accomplish, or is it?
you are the one struggling with illitracy. how can government give two week ultimatum. I can't forget the stress I pass tru when I registered for bvn back then. and they want to repeat such thing during Corona virus

The idea is okay but the deadline is unrealistic.
I guess the aim is to improve security and identity verification.

However, phones get stolen and sims get misplaced. It is advisable to report these incidents to your mobile network provider to avoid any implication.

If only you knew how disorganised our system was. When you have incapable people in position of authority you know what to expect, nothing works.

Idiots. So who is not a Nigerian cannot own sim card to make calls. Nigeria case is a case of when they discover new way of blocking the illegal, the people will still discover another way. Don't panic update must come. This is not the solution. First they need to kill corruption only then they can make progress.

So ISA Patapata wants ppl to go and cluster somewhere all in the name of re-registration of SIM card in this second wave of Covid-19?
Before his minions come to tell about telecos applying social distance for this exercise, there is no way this is going to work seamlessly.

Lots of people are yet to register for NINC and second wave of covid is coming, how will social distancing be done?

Why the rush to block sim?

So they can fine the telcom companies billions.

The way this Government is desperately looking for money is not here.

So the companies should disconnect lines and lose billions

Let's be honest to ourselves. The benefits is much more than the negative effect. I expected this long time ago to curb the menace where fraudsters will be calling anyhow claiming they are from the bank. Criminal elements will still devise a means. True. But let's make it harder for them.
Your analysis is shallow because you are expected to report to the police and swear an affidavit once u misplace something or lose it in robbery.

Common sense is not common after all.
The govt is insensitive to give 2 weeks ultimatum for sim registration. True.
