you are talking rubbish. when people start talking like you i know they have never being to muritala mohammed airport sef. but anyway let me quote what i wrote for the guy above you

I have lived in toronto and i have lived in nigeria and i am telling you black people are suffering in canada. the suffering in canadaa is just too much.. high taxes and you wake up in the dark to go to work and in the snow. black people there look dishevelled. it is when i returned to nigeria that i realised how beautiful black people are because the ones in canada look haggard from stress and work and loneliness andd racism and bad weather and high taxes and high bills etc etc. canada is a horrible place to live. i wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy

Okay nice assumption that I've never been to MMIA. But why are Nigerians always complaining about taxes? You pay tax home and abroad. The Nigerian taxes have no record and you pay twice for it. Your taxes doesn't work for you in Nigeria but it definitely works for you in Canada. Why do Nigerians hate tax?

Nigerians in Toronto look disheveled? And the Nigerians living in Nigeria who can't afford 3 square meal look pretty cool to you?

The jobless folks in Canada get 3 square meals from food banks but can you say the same about their Nigerian counterparts? The same Nigeria where graduates are being paid lower than minimum wage? Nigeria where cows are the first class citizens?

Canada has one of the least unemployment rates in the world.

Last year alone, Nigerians in diaspora remitted $17.5b to Nigeria (bigger than a lot of country GDP in Africa). Nigerians living abroad are just the real ballers bro.

@bolded now you agree they make money.

They were not able to make such money when they stayed in Nigeria. They made it in the same Canada where you say people are suffering.

Most people travel abroad to make money and not to move there permanently because it's easier to make money outside Nigeria. And move back to retire home. Not only Canada (it is common among Nigerians in Western countries). The Nigerian blood still lives in us. We only want to make the legal money that Nigeria would only permit fraudulently. The fact that Nigerians all over the world go back home after making money doesn't mean Nigeria is the anywhere near the best. But the love for Nigeria can't be measured. That's why you see Nigerians abroad still coming to Nairaland just to check on their beloved country.

For example: Nigerians working in Lagos would prefer to settle in their home town after retirement.

Even Chinese also do this. Nigerians are not alone in this.

Again, a lot of them also burn the bridge and decide never to go back. I know someone who burnt his Nigerian passport after he got his Canadian passport.

Mikel Obi patiently sat on the Chelsea's bench and got his British citizenship and still invests in Nigeria from afar. He wouldn't have made those millions he's investing if he kept playing for Eyimba. Even at that, his father was kidnapped twice in your eldorado Nigeria.

The goal is make money, secure your life and family's then others are additions.

If their investments don't work out as planned or Fulani herdsmen/ Boko Haram decide to attack them or their businesses, they will take the next available flight back to the Canada that gave them the millions.

Have u heard of tax return?
People on minimum wage hardly pay any tax...they claim their tax back.
Pls do a lot of research b4 commenting on what u know little about.
However, I agree if u earning well in naija...u may want to rethink any relocation plan.

Don't listen to that guy. No one working a full time job in Canada earns 1300 CAD. Even the lowest minimum wage in Canada is 11.32 for Saskatchewan Province. Multiply that by 40 hours per week and 4 weeks in a month. Besides the tax on minimum wage is about 20%, not to mention the different benefits these low income earners get from the government.
Ignorance is indeed a disease.

But honestly, the you tube thing is getting out of hand. My town girl that got her PR last may has started her own Canada video with sole aim of discouraging intending would be immigrants from embarking on the journey. I am not an abroad kind of person as I enjoy Nigeria.

I travel and come back and love it here. They should allow those that wants to embark on the journey to be. My man wanted to give the idea a taught but this my town girl was painting a very bad picture. I just concluded that some Nigerians beef those that wants to make the journey and don't want them to come and compete for space with them.

The world is too big to accommodate everyone, including the opportunities that it offers.

It is not just a feeling, it is actually the truth. There are so many of them on Nairaland, Youtube and Twitter, their hobby is to discourage Nigerians from relocating to a better country (i.e. UK, USA, Germany or Canada).

Chioma1989:
All these YouTubers! Is that these Nigerian ladies and women are jobless and lonely, putting up unnecessary videos about Canada just to get traffic? I am sure this ugly thing is talking these trash from the comfort of her home in Canada. Leave people alone to make their choices.

I have the feeling that most Nigerians in Canada don't like more Nigerians to come over to Canada. They hate when they see more Nigerians making the journey, including the relatives they left behind when they made their own journeys. All the points she mentioned does not hold water at all. Very shallow thinking.

The backbone and audacity!

Nigeria is rich, of course, but these rich guys you claimed to be in their midst don't even represent 0.5% of Nigeria's population. The inequality gap is mind-boggling - and its getting wider. Just so you know Nigeria has more than 100 million of its people living in abject poverty according to world poverty clock. And this number is increasing rapidly due to reckless government negligence, corruption and also our booming population.

This is evident everywhere, just take a few hour our ride from your bubble in lekki and see for yourself.

There is extreme poverty in all countries. FACTSSSSSSSSSS

OK so maybe naija has more poverty because of the sheer volume of people in it but i have seen worse poverty in chicago usa than i can ever encounter in nigeria. i have lived in chicago too. i mean extreme poverty where people are sleeping on the streets in zero degree weather and they find them in the morning dead and have turned to ice block. this is the type of poverty i am talking about. if you think you are suffering in nigeria ? go to chicago in the winter time and see the homeless suffering and freezing to death on the street

Correction: Don't make baseless assumption - despite Nigeria's grim situation, I, particularly am not doing bad. So don't say "I'm suffering". That's disrespectful, besides, I'm just a concerned citizen airing my views and opinions(which I have every right to)

That said, twist the truth however you like - still doesn't negate the fact that we have a serious problem in this country which is poverty, it's staring us in this face and possibly could be if not already a time bomb.

Note; the country itself is rich and has massive potentials. But years of bad governance had plunged it's booming population into poverty, which itself is a hydra-headed monster.

Your analogy of using Chicago to support your argument is lame and unfit-for-purpose.

•Majority of homeless people in the US and most western countries are for the most part drug addicts, people with criminal backgrounds or simply people with mental health issues.
• Even at that, these people still receive some sort of government help and aid. Don't get me started about food banks which is nonexistent in Nigeria .
•these homeless people don't even make up to 1% of Chicago's population and am pretty sure providing decent accommodation for them won't be a big deal for the government if it wants to. In contrast to your country 51% of the population are pathetically poor due to grand government corruption and mismanagement.

Wake up and smell the coffee! Nigeria doesn't start and end in Lagos let alone in your neighborhood (lekki). Taraba is a state, same as yobe, Osun and Bayelsa, check the statistics of these states and then you'll realize how uniformed you have been.

Have a nice day man.

I get your point, two different realities from Rich Nigerians to Poor Nigerians.

However the current currency devaluation is really bad now & encourages more people to travel because their income is now worth nothing.

If you ask me, i personally love Nigeria & how free you can be. Life is way easier in Nigeria & people work less.

Labour is super cheap, house helps earn as low as 5000 naira, dry cleaners and drivers earn really low. It means if you earn up to a million, your monthly expenses will not even cross 100k. You can save a whopping 900k Every month living super large.

But then think about it, Labour being super cheap affects every one. That's one reason blue collar jobs aren't respected in Nigeria.

But why should that be? Why do we see the next person as a competitor as Nigerians. We are looking at a way of supporting a relative, who is a registered nurse in Nigeria. We wants her to go to UK and practice because of demand of nurses over there. Starting with writing of this exam they call Neclax, I hope I got the name right. We got in contact with a relative there, she bad mouthed the whole thing and discouraged the poor lady from making the journey.

We just bypassed her, registered the exam for our relative and contacted someone to provide her accommodation at a fee for the duration of the Neglax exam. The benefactor here is a Namibian. He even guided our relative well on how to secure job if successful with the neglax exam and registration.

She is done with everything and back to Nigeria. We're just hoping for the best for her. Though she has not secured job to take advantage of the new health care visa category. But the attitude of the Nigerian relative was nothing to write home about.

though I'm not supportive of some points here. but that loneliness is a big point that can make many to regret their choice. Using America as an example, Hollywood is making Nigerians think that it's all enjoyment in the us. when trills of electricity and internet leave your mouth and you realize its all work and work, you'll be disappointed. Not much time for social life as in Nigeria, only the American rich experience some form of good life, but for working class, no. but movies will not let you know. it is same in other developed countries. the worst is when you don't blend in culturally. you'd hate yourself as you won't have an interesting conversation with anyone. I'm not against anyone traveling, but make good research and know what you want. don't pay attention to people who come here to brag, they're the ones that struggle the most financially.

Loneliness and boredom there could be killing. I don't know how Nigerian singles are managing over there, especially those that were formerly living in Nigeria with all the activities and suddenly found themselves in one or two rooms basement apartments. When I had my first child, I went alone but the boredom and loneliness complicated my frustration.

On my second coming, I insisted my mum joined me and I felt better. My people, abroad is good but I can't live there permanently. Though I am still hustling with my second hand clothing and shoes, praying God's continue blessing on hubby, na Nigeria sure pass for me but I won't hesitate not to help any relative willing to Japa if that's where his destiny lies. I pray that my relative, who is a practicing nurse here succeed with her UK pursuit. At least, I would have someone over there and be visiting. We are investing on her with a hope of success. grin

Electricity: In Nigeria you pay for what you don’t enjoy. Most area don’t have light for weeks but still have to pay for what they don’t use at end of the month.

Minimum wage: Minimum wage in Nigeria is 30k naira per month. Most states in Nigeria can’t even pay this. Also workers wait 2 to 3 months to get paid. The minimum wage in Canada per month (in Ontario area) is over 500k naira. Things are expensive in Canada but you enjoy what you pay for.

Accommodation: Most workers in Nigeria can’t rent a decent 1 bedroom apartment in the city because cost of rent an apartment per year is more than their annual salary. I guess this is not the case in Canada.

Vehicles: Cars are more expensive to own in Nigeria than Canada. Most Nigerians can’t afford to buy one because is out of reach but I guess this is not the case in Canada

I know living abroad doesn’t make one rich but you get good quality of life. You will be able to afford basic amenities.

Lastly whenever you guys are comparing any developed society to Nigeria you guys should always compare salary also.
