Don't say what you don't know. The person that committed the attrocity was never an Igbo guy, he was from Delta bearing an Igbo name. Read you history before jumping into conclusion.

Between him an ojukwu who destroyed Nigeria?
Who brought us to military rule?
Igbo's are quick to forget the misdeed of their ancestors undecided

Azikiwe, Ironsi and Ojukwu were worse than Balewa could ever be!
Ironically all the Igbo who gave Balewa's government a bad name were spared.

Actually, it wasn't.

1.If the civilian administration hadn't handed over to Ironsi because they were so scared...

2.If ironsi had organized an open court martial for the coup plotters....

3.Ironsi's mistakes (like the decree abolishing regions, and so on)

4.It is rumored that some of our leaders were warned of the coup. Why didn't they do anything about it?
No 1. What if the civilian Administration after balewa wasn't core North? You think the north wouldnt still react. There were rumours that aside nzeogwu's camp, there were other coups coming through. It was a matter of who struck first.

2. Damned Ironsi. Such a fine officer. Perhaps tribalism? Or he supported the coup? or he didn't want to be hasty?
3. Terrible mistakes. He paid with his life. Too bad millions of others too did.

4. Why they didn't act, I have no idea. I've read numerous sources confirm it. Coup's were an in thing in Africa then. Maybe they were overwhelmed, or underestimated the khaki boys.

I just feel one way or the other, we would still have had that civil war. Maybe in a different way. Maybe a longer one like Congo and those other countries.

Time Magazine has never had an award called Leader of the Year. He was simply featured on the cover of the magazine because he happened to be Nigeria's Prime minister at the point of indept.

RuudVanNisteroy:

He was actually very intelligent and well spoken with a strong British accent. He studied abroad at the University of London's Institute of Education, which today forms part of University College London. Upon returning to Nigeria, he became an Inspector of Schools for the colonial administration and later entered politics.

May Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, and other Northern Politicians and Northern military officers (such as Gen. Maimalari) who were cowardly and unjustifiably killed by Chukwuma Nzeagu and his gang, continue to rest in peace. In Nzeagu's strategic blunder Nigeria, Africa and black race died. Thankfully, Nzeagu and his boys have since paid the ultimate price, deservedly. His people have paid and are still paying the same as the generational curse continues. God Has forsaken them as nothing good come from them both at home and abroad.

Balewa was actually not a Fulani but from an indigenous tribe in Bauchi state. Though a muslim,he wasn't a fanatic like that fanatic Ahmadu Bello.

His death benefitted the Fulani demonic and hegemonic hold on Nigeria.

When I watched Tafa speak for the first time, omo! I changed my view regarding hausa language and the almost general and constant morphological interference syndrome they suffer (as most African natives).
Tafa was sound. You know, listening without watching you'd imagine the person speaking was probably an English native speaker.
But sha...if better tins last for dis our country so...na luck.
You will be surprised they don't know him, I wonder why you people are praising him, for me he's like the rest of them. If the foundations of Nigeria was properly laid I don't see how and why Nigeria has sink so deep into the ocean.
His likes did not lay a good foundation for this country only to play smart and loot.

When will YOU ask Britain to return our stolen trillions?

The money hasn't disappeared into thin air.

When will you tell them to RETURN BOTH the money they looted during colonial rule AND the money their Nigerian stooges looted and deposited in Britain?

IF YOU REALLY CARED ABOUT THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE AS OPPOSED TO BEING AN ASSLICKER OF WHITES, THAT'S WHAT YOU'D BE ASKING.

By not DEMANDING an immediate return of all stolen wealth, you show yourself to be an ENABLER and SUPPORTER of corruption and theft.

Your only interest seems to be to get us to hate our leaders, but Britain can keep the money.

Are you working for the British?

I think we should all remember that the world is a place of competition even though we are pretentious of this notion. A prosperous Nigeria will have it's advantages and disadvantages to the imperial British. My brother, they are better prepared to take advantage of us for their betterment. I am inclined to blame our leaders all the way but I am most time inudiated with the notion that you can only give what you have. That is what is lacking at independence, we are challenged to give what we never had. Then the euphoria of independence and strong conviction of super achievement without the 'what and how' was our greatest undoing, which nailed then and even now the prospect for failure. I am sorry to be part of the failed generation and even now the future of the country is more gloomy and then almost everybody could see danger ahead and our best bet for now is to run and move as fast as possible out of the country because the rouge's who are the immediate beneficiary of our independence are indeed still in control and may not release the stronghold until a complete nockout. God bless Nigeria.

My brother we all have to play our part to restore the lost glory of this country. If we all run away is that a good sign for our kids and the generations unborn? I lived a good part of my life overseas and did my Master's degree there as well. I was one of the fortunate ones to come back to a job waiting for him.

I understand your pains but that mindset is not beneficial for this nation. Cheers.

Hehehe...Akoshi bero.
Well the pig always enjoy it in the dirt.

You obviously derive pleasure in attacking people without
them hurting your soul.
I call that "taking Panadol for someone else's headache"

Its so easy to see that your family failed to raise you to manifest good values, but then we always have families like that.

And as charity begins at home, you certainly do not sound like you have a home. So how could you exhibit a quality that does not exist in your lineage.

Attempting to insolently display how superior you are in a matter that has no attachment to your online particulars shows you are really a toxic fellow, bitter and hopeless.

A word: Evaluate yourself, it's not that late, you don't necessarily have to die a fool.
In as much the other guy came across as rude to your initial submission but we should make conscious effort to reduce the hype for these Europeans, what is the advantage of speaking Queen's English to a black man? nothing!!! I would rather rate Balewa on other aspects than his ability to speak Queens English.

No language is superior to the other, some parents even banned their wards from speaking their indigenous languages at home, we are really loosing it in this part of the world, when there is a U.N congress, serious countries speak in their indigenous languages, it is a big shame we are at this level, have you seen Wayne Rooney obsessed about speaking Yoruba? or a lampard obsessed about speaking Igbo?

There is nothing glamorous about a black man speaking Queens language. Obsession of most Nigerians with the ability to speak the Queen's English is a trait we do not need to pass to the next generation.

Less than a month after Queen Elizabeth II proclaimed self-government for Eastern and Western Nigeria, the tropic Federation got its first Prime Minister and installed its first all-Nigerian Cabinet in the capital of Lagos, beside the tepid green waters of the Bight of Benin.* Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, a Northern Moslem, became Nigeria's first Prime Minister.

In a graceful speech opening Parliament, Balewa paid tribute to British statesmanship and the service of Christian missionaries, spoke of the "tremendous good will" that existed between Britain and Nigeria, but emphasized that he and his ministers are" "irrevocably committed" to complete independence for Nigeria.

TIME MAGAZINE was and still remains the wing and integral part of colonialism. They knew Abubakar was actually less educated in western civilization then Azikiwe and Awolowo. The colonialists have used praises as weapon of denigration especially against those who oppose them in their game. I would not be surprised an iota.
