I remember how Lai Mohammed ridiculed the rebasement of the economy around 2010 that made Nigeria number one in Africa.

I wait to see how he will celebrate this same position now.

As good as it sounds, we should be worried the value of the GDP has not grown since we emerged number one in Africa.

Infact it dropped even

@bolded ..it's either your a joker or your simply oblivious of happenings in this country. And you said your into exporting of cassava?

I give up on your gullibility
Don't give up abeg. Let's continue, you sycophant. We've got a yeye government, you can embolden my comment for all I care. I wish you had the opportunity to leave the shores of Nigeria maybe you'd think straight...you'd know your government is making lots of upcoming Nigerian SMEs sleep rather than work.

I was expecting you to mention 10k trader moni or 30k N-power as SMEs empowerment programme of this useless govt and you'd have had the most blasting embarrassment of your life. You give less than 100USD to people and you call it empowerment? Common!

First-to-commenters like you explain why Tinubu keeps appearing on threads his name shouldn't appear. Stick to the topic!

To the news now, I will tell anyone who cares to know that Nigeria's economy remains one of the biggest, not due to government's effort, because we have a massive population.

While some leading economies have employed innovation and massive government support to drive their economies, we just depend mainly on petrodollars from Niger Delta oil to drive our economy.

Little wonder Nigeria keeps borrowing to do virtually everything because crude prices plummeted.

Buhari has been shouting diversification since 2015, but he still uses Nigeria's little earnings to prospect for oil in the north. I don't understand that man.

Lastly, may God bless those Nigerians who constantly send FX home to their loved ones. If not for them, only God knows how much the naira will be exchanging today.

Absolutely spot on. Very authentic, valid and indisputable facts u laid out. Thumbs up

Divide the gdp by the population.

No be by size

South Africa is 59m, Nigeria is 200m. Slight difference in gdp. It means for every 1 dollar available for spending on a Nigerian, South Africa has $3 per citizen.

Yet more than 90% of her citizens are suffering daily. No good roads, hospitals, jobs, electricity, universities and so many others. Many of her graduates can only boast of 30k Npower job with abeg while Buhari' daughter is enjoying in NNPC earning over #6m . Our politicians fly abroad for treatment
You made sense abt lack of social amenities but only myopic minded ppl would believe a person at the status of President of the FRN will appoint his son/daughter as board member of any govt company or organisation because of N6m.
To confirm the unauthenticity of the allegation, the claim did not state which of the Buhari’s daughters  is being referred to. However, a picture of Zahra Buhari was added to the thread. In addition to a contradictory screenshots which state that she is a deputy manager at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
People in power target contract than mere token salary of million naira.

There are many parameters to check if a country is doing well or not, GDP alone is not enough to know if a country is doing well, Nigeria economy will remain large due to her huge natural resources (Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa n 11th in the world.....this doesn't answer to good governance, it is a gift by God) but the responsibility of a good government is to annest the potential (resources) inorder to better the life of citizen. Economist use per capita and purchasing power parity to know how a country is fairing. Despite our enormous economy, many countries are doing better than us using per capita....south Africa, Gabon, Botswana, Mauritius, Seychelles, Namibia are all doing better than us. Nigeria Gdp is not growing according to her population.

You are a confused being. If the government has failed to create enabling environment for business to thrive then how come you are claiming our economy is being driven by private sector investment and not the government.
The good report actually unsettled him. That's why he is confused. He wanted to hear what his mind wishes. He proudly said that he is an exporter of one agricultural (cassava) product from the country. Yet he couldn't figure out that if there were no enabling environment, how could he has engaged in such business?
But, he is not alone; many of them are dying silently waiting to hear what news which usually please from Sahara reporters and pdp political magazines like the punch.
For the next few weeks, they will come up with their own version of the IMF report to resettled the unsettled gullible fans unsettled and confused by the report.
They will tell you they want the country to progress but the president must fail. Such is their mindsets, the purveyance of their confusion.

Bros Nigeria has always been the most populated in Africa but has only been the biggest economy 2wice. Under Jonathan and Buhari, so talk another one.
The main import of the write-up is that Nigeria is the most productive economy(GDP) in Africa but not generating enough revenue from its economy. SA's revenues beats Nigeria's hands down. So SA is richer than Naija.
I think we need one of the Lagos boys to takeover at the center. It's not an easy feat to turn IGR from 30b to 480b within 16years(over a 1000% growth) without increasing tax rate; only them have that bragging right in Nigeria

I don't take any useless IMF statistics. Imperialistic organization that milk , loot and bring down any developing countries especially those in Africa.

They will be deciving you with sweet words so that you can continue to borrow from them thereby plunging your unborn generation and the country to future debts!

Devlish imperialist IMF.

How can Nigerian be the biggest economy in Africa while the country is the poverty capital of the world. It doesn't make any sense.

South Africa supposed to be Africa biggest economy.
