Fasting Helps To Unlock Your Spiritual Potential Not To Fall Into Temptation

"This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting." {Mark 9:29}

This saying of Jesus to His disciples was actually about the kind of devils that they couldn't cast out, however it also applies to some kind of temptations which cannot be overcome by prayer alone which was also able to help one not to fall into temptation.

"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41 (KJV)

So although prayer was also able to help one unlock his spiritual potential to overcome temptation, there were some kinds of temptations that prayer alone would not be able to surmount. Hence the need for the person to also fast to unlock his spiritual potential not to fall into that kind of temptation.

This seemed the kind of temptation that Jesus faced in the wilderness when He was said to have fasted for forty days and forth nights.

Matthew 4:1-2 (KJV)

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

Therefore when the devil cunningly tried to stop Him from fasting, Jesus said to him:

"It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4

Hence Jesus overcame the tempter and his temptations not just by prayer alone and but by prayer and fasting.

The temptations of the devil are intended to cause someone to sin or to disobey God's Word, so when one was able to overcome or not fall Into temptations, it means the person didn't sin or disobey God's Word in spite of the temptations of devil.

And according to the saying of Jesus that man lives by the Word of God, it makes fasting very crucial to a man's life, because it helps man not to fall into temptation or disobey God's Word just as prayer does and even more so, because it has the ability to unlock the potential of someone's spirit's willingness to do so, where prayer alone was enough.

This was something I realized during a period I was fasting, as there were some temptations or weaknesses of the flesh that prayer alone was not able to address, but during the period of my fasting, at some point I began to realize that the weaknesses of the flesh and such temptations were completely subdued and put under control.

God bless.

Fasting Helps To Unlock Your Spiritual Potential To Do Great Works

Luke 3:21-22 (KJV)

Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

Right from the very day Jesus was conceived in His mother's womb, to the day of His baptism, Jesus had the spiritual potential to do great and mighty works, because the Holy Ghost had been upon Him from the onset, and His alighting upon Him after baptism was just a confirmation of that fact. Luke 1:35, 41.

However it wasn't until He had fasted for forty days and forty nights that His spiritual potential to do those great and mighty works was unlocked.

Luke 4:1-2 (KJV)

"And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered."

Luke 4:13-14 (KJV)

"And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about."

So Jesus left Galilee with just the potential of the Spirit, but after fasting, He returned in the power of the Spirit, because His spiritual potential had been unlocked. That's the reason His fame spread abroad.

Matthew 4:24-25 (KJV)

And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.

Jesus also gave His disciples power to do great and mighty works of God, but there came a point where their limitation to do such extent of works was exposed by a devil which they couldn't cast out.

Mark 9:17-18 (KJV)

And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

But when the same devil was brought to Jesus, He was able to cast it out.

Matthew 17:18 (KJV)

And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

When the disciples asked Jesus why they couldn't cast the devil out just like He did, Jesus said:

"This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting." {Mark 9:29}

So the reason the disciples were unable to cast out the devil as Jesus had done, was because their spiritual potential to do such works had not been unlocked by fasting.

And Jesus who was able to do those kinds of work that cannot be unlocked but by prayer and fasting, showed by His response to the tempter during His temptations, that the main purpose of fasting was to help one to be obedient to God's Word and not to fall into temptations. Therefore the unlocking of someone's potential to do the kind of great works that Jesus did was tied to that of not falling into temptation, hence the great works that Jesus was able to do was after He had overcome the temptations of the devil.

So to do the kind of great works that Jesus did and even greater works as He said, you also need to get to the level of obedience of God's Word that Jesus was.

Hence fasting unlocks your spiritual potential to do the kind of great works which Jesus did, by helping you overcome the kind of temptations Jesus overcame to get you to the level of obedience that Jesus walked.

God bless.

Fasting Helped Me To Begin Walk At The Level Of The Spirit

John 3:8 (KJV)

The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

The level of the Spirit which i walk presently, was actually unlocked by fasting as I embarked on a forty-day dry fast, though eventually succeeded in only achieving a nine days and eight nights dry fast instead, outside in the bush somewhere in Abuja.

But despite the fact that I wasn't able to complete the forty days dry fast which I had initially set out to do, to enable me kickstart the level of the Spirit which I dreamed to walk at, the nine days and eight nights which I had accomplished under the harsh conditions was still enough to get me started.

Because at the end of it, considering the circumstance, it was clear that only God could have made me to come out of it alive. Hence i believed i owed God my life so He was going to be the only reason I lived, and nothing else.

Therefore i had entered into the fasting as flesh, but came out of the fasting as a spirit. Dead to the things of the flesh and the world around me. All I could see was God and no man.

That was how I got the courage to begin to preach on the streets of Abuja as I had dreamed of. I dreamed of living the kind of life the apostles lived where they gave their all to God and lived a life completely sold out to Him.

But I didn't have the courage because everything I saw inclusive of the state of the present day church was not really encouraging, as they didn't remind me of the apostles or the kind of church I had read of or seen in the Bible. So it was that church in the Bible I desired to be a part of and not the one I saw on Earth.

I was determined and willing but didn't have the strength and courage I needed to proceed, so fasting gave me the strength and courage I needed to accomplish the desire of my heart, because after the fast, I was able to live the kind of lives they lived on Earth, which was not this world but of the kingdom of God.

As i continued fasting afterwards though, i realized that for some reason, i wasn't able to exceed two days of dry fast even though the conditions were now much more favorable, which confirmed my thoughts that it was only God that had made it possible for me to achieve that nine days and eight nights of dry fast.

Therefore fasting was not by might nor by power but by the Spirit of God.

That's how those who were able to fast for forty days without food or water were able to achieve that feat.

God bless.

My Spiritual Potential

About this time last year in nairaland, I had commanded the sun to stand still, and some thought that I was insane or had gone out of my mind to have imagined such a thing, especially considering the timing of such an idea, when mighty works have more or less dried up in the church. So to have someone think of such especially at such a time, not to talk of attempting it, was something that appeared beyond the realms of reason and sanity.

But what they didn't know was that i very well knew what I was doing, because I wasn't trying to be in tune with the times or the norm, but with the reality of my spiritual potential, as i knew i had the spiritual potential to do that and even more. That was the reason behind the extent of my confidence in attempting such a thing.

But this is not just an imaginary spiritual potential like some would like to claim, but something real because I have the same measure of the Spirit of God that was in beginning, which came upon Jesus being the Word of God that was in beginning, dwelling in me.

And that measure of the Spirit of God that was in the beginning could only come upon the Word of God which was in the beginning, hence I got it by keeping the Word of God which was in the beginning which is Jesus.

For that Word was made flesh so that the flesh would become the Word of God that was in the beginning, and the Word of God which was in the beginning would hence multiply upon the Earth.

Hence by keeping of the Word of God which was in the beginning, the Word multiplied in me, hence the measure of Spirit of God which was upon Jesus resting upon me.

So when the Spirit of God revealed Himself to me, and after His presence was manifested in me, He kept taking my mind back to the beginning when all things were made by God.

It was really scary because I knew what had happened in the beginning, it was creation of all things, so it was really scary. But I had nothing to be afraid of because it was the same Spirit of God that was in the beginning when God made all things, that I had resting upon me.

After the presence of God began to manifest in me, It was really strong and i found it difficult for me to stand on my feet for long. I kept falling to the ground, and my body was heavily shaken and moved by it. I noticed a force that usually pulls my knees or body to the floor even while I was in public, it was becoming quite embarrassing. But when I asked God why, He said, "How do you expect to stand in My presence?

The intensity of His presence has gradually developed to this point now when i could literally hear the sound and feel the movement God's Breath upon me. That is just like what happens when one was under the breath of someone else, I could literally hear Him inhale and exhale, and when He exhales, I feel the movement of the air upon my body. And the Breath of God is His Spirit.

So I have the spiritual potential to do the great works that Jesus did and even greater works as He had said, hence my commanding of the sun to stand still. But it didn't happen as I had called it to be and I wondered why at the time because I knew I had the spiritual potential to do such works.

Now I know why and I'm going to reveal it in subsequent posts.

God bless.

When I Stopped Fasting

Though fasting helped me to get to the level of the Spirit which I now walk, and i continued fasting after that, I stopped fasting after a Voice said to me "do not fast until i tell you to". I believed the instruction came from God, so i did what the Voice asked me to do and stopped fasting but continued praying.

So since that time over fifteen years ago, I have hardly fasted but been very prayerful.

However it was during this period I was not fasting but just praying that the Spirit of God first began to reveal Himself to me.

I wasn't also fasting when His presence came upon me mightily and began to develop to the point where it now is where I can literally hear and feel God's Breath.

Though I used to pray for lengthy periods like seven or eight hours a day at a point, I wasn't fasting.

Nonetheless the amount of revelations I used to receive from God especially while I was praying was on another level, some of them are what I've revealed here to confounding of many including some atheists that they weren't able to gainsay or resist.

I began to nurse the idea that perhaps the instruction to stop fasting was a permanent one not temporary, because perhaps the purpose of fasting had been accomplished in my life.

That idea was drawn from the instance of Jesus who was shown to have prayed ceaselessly, but just fasted once during the course of His ministry on Earth. But yet worked in victory, dominion and power of the Spirit throughout.

Even when He was most distressed, prior to His hour when He'd suffer in the hands of men and accomplish the purpose for which He was sent to the Earth, which was to die for man's sins, He didn't still fast but just prayed fervently.

Yet He didn't fall into temptation but overcame as He was obedient to God's Word, and successfully accomplished the purpose for which God had sent Him to the Earth.

So It seemed that Jesus didn't need to fast because the purpose of fasting was perhaps to get one to a level of obedience of God Word, and that purpose had been achieved when He fasted for forty days and forty nights before the commencement of His ministry. Hence He didn't need fasting but just prayer to maintain that level of obedience.

So the idea that perhaps just as it was in the instance of Jesus, that the fasting I had done had gotten me to the level of obedience i required, so it was just prayer I needed to maintain that level. Hence the instruction given to me by the Voice to stop fasting, even though it was just temporary and not permanently as I had began to assume.

God bless.

Let it be known that abstaining from food without praying isn't fasting

Also Fasting and wrong doings on the day of your fast won't be acceptable according to Is 58

Where I Got It Wrong!

I may have been right about the part of maintaining of level of obedience of God's Word, but apart from that, the fasting Jesus had done also unlocked His spiritual potential to do the great and mighty works that He did. That's why He didn't even need to fast to cast out that devil that couldn't come out but by prayer and fasting because fasting had already unlocked that spiritual potential.

But in my own case, I realized that despite that I had the same spiritual potential He did as evidenced by the heavy weight of His presence upon me, that followed me everywhere I went, I wasn't able to use it to do mighty and great works.

And I wondered how I could have so much power in me yet couldn't use it to do much.

My spiritual nickname is miracle man. That's what the Spirit of God calls me, and sometime last year Jesus told me that He'd given me authority over the demons, but when I tried to exercise the authority here after I heard that, it didn't seem to work. Even this year I was told the same thing, but up til now there's not much difference, because I tried to use it here of recent, it had little or no effect as was revealed to me.

It began to seem as though the power I had in me was just audio, because so much force and intensity yet little or no results.

A Nairalander even mocked recently that no signs has followed me since I was here, lol!

It's been a really frustrating experience to have this heavy tangible presence of God on me but not able to do much with it, that I would have even preferred to not have it, but be able to do some works because most of those who were able to do some works, do not have the extent of God's presence I have upon me.

I tried to figure out what the problem was because in the spiritual I was very powerful and highly respected, but in the physical I was almost powerless.

This topic seems to have provided the solution to my problem, and it was a product of a 3-day dry fast I was forced to observe of recent. But i didn't even know it provided the solution to what I was lacking initially, but just a topic meant for others until I began to realize that this topic was not meant to be just a teaching but also a practical.

The Holy Spirit revealed to me that this was His thread, so I'm curious to find out what He meant by that.

Remember the Voice that made me stop fasting, only instructed me to stop fasting temporarily, until He told me to do so, not permanently as I had begun to assume. So it appears that it's the Person that owns that Voice that also gave me this topic after I fasted and told me that this was His thread.

It therefore seems that this topic was given to me as a way of telling me that the time for fasting had come so I should start fasting again.

Hence I just began a 21-day fast today, which I would just be taking only water. I haven't tried it before but I have started and would see how it goes.

I would be updating this thread with any developments in subsequent posts.

God bless.

A Time To Fast And Not To Fast.

Matthew 9:15 (KJV)

And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

The example of Jesus and even that of His disciples, showed that there was a time to fast and a time not to fast.

Hence despite that Jesus always had the spiritual potential to do great and mighty of God right from His conception, He didn't fast until His time to begin His ministry had come, for that appeared to be the same time His spiritual potential to do great and mighty works was meant to be unlocked.

The same applied to the disciples who were said not to fast as the same time the disciples of John and the Pharisees were said to be doing so, during the days that Jesus was yet with them on Earth. According to Jesus, they weren't fasting because their time to fast had not come.

But Jesus said that a time would come when they would have to fast, but that would only be after He had been taken away from them.

So despite that Jesus had given them the power to do the great and mighty works He did, and even more, they couldn't do so until their time to fast had come. Therefore they had to wait for that time to come, after Jesus had been taken away from them, before they fasted and were able to unlock their spiritual potential to do great and mighty works as Jesus had done.

Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

That was how their spiritual potential to do the great and mighty works that Jesus did was unlocked.

So I believe that is was for the same reason I was instructed to stop fasting temporarily, because the time for me to fast had not yet come. And the time for me to fast was connected to the time for my spiritual potential to be unlocked which itself was meant to take place only after my time had come.

Hence it was after I was told my time had come, that It was revealed to me why I had not been able do great and mighty works despite having the spiritual potential to do so, was because it had not been unlocked by fasting, to show that my time for fasting had come!

Therefore I am going fully back to my fasting mode as it used to be in the days I begun to walk at the level of the Spirit.

So let's see how that goes.

God bless.

Day 2 of my 21-Day Water fast.

It's a new experience for me this type of fasting so exploring new grounds in that regard.

Already feeling weak but not as weak as it happens when going completely dry, perhaps because of the water factor.

Although still a long way to go with 20 days left.

The Lord is my strength and I believe He'd see me through.

Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

How Fasting Unlocks Your Spiritual Potential Not To Fall Into Temptation

Jesus said:

"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41 (KJV)

To enter or fall into temptation means to sin or to disobey God's Word, so prayer according to this Jesus saying was essential for one to be obedient to God's Word and not fall into temptation or sin, because it was able to unlock the potential of someone's spirit which was willing to do so, because the spirit of a man was inclined towards the obedience of God's Word.

However just as it was in the instance of those kind of devils that the disciples couldn't cast out by prayer alone, there were also some level of temptations that one couldn't overcome by prayer alone, in other words, a level of obedience of God's Word that prayer alone would not be able to unlock.

So the saying of Jesus to His disciples about the kind that cannot come out but by prayer and fasting, could also apply to such instances, as fasting would be needed in addition to prayer to unlock such spiritual potential.

This was something I realized during that period as there were some temptations or weaknesses of the flesh that prayer alone was not able to address, but during the period of my fasting at some point I began to realize that the weaknesses of the flesh and such temptations was completely subdued and put under control.

God bless.

It's strange I feel much stronger than yesterday.

Yesterday I was really feeling weak and almost passed out after doing really something quite stressful, lol! I was beginning to wonder what difference taking water made because it was just three days, and I couldn't see much difference between a 3-day dry fast and this.

But I'm feeling much better today and even my prayer today flowed much better.

So thank God for everything.

So far so good

18 days to go.

Day 5:

Not feeling so strong today as I was yesterday, and don't know for how long I can keep this up, because this is just the beginning of the fifth day yet i'm feeling very weak and there still 17 days to go. But I know that it's not by my might or by my power but by the Spirit of God, so I know God's grace was more than able to see me through.

Yesterday night I had a dream where I was given a champagne or wine bottle, which suggest victory and that the purpose of my fasting has been accomplished but I'm not completely sure about that yet.

Time would tell if that's true.

Unfortunately i wasn't able to pull through with my water fasting because I broke it yesterday night, however the fasting continues as I have now switched to that which would have me eat just once every day.

Now there was this interesting event i saw in the Bible yesterday that perfectly illustrated the difference fasting makes in certain situations and how it was able to unlock the solutions to problems that prayer alone couldn't solve.

It had to do with people of Israel who had enquired of the Lord if they should go to battle against the tribe of Benjamin to avenge an atrocity committed by one of their own, after all other peaceful options they had explored to address the situation was rebuffed by the Benjamites. And the Lord was said to have given them the go ahead to do so, yet they went to battle and still lost woefully.

Judges 20:18-21 (KJV)

And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.
And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in array to fight against them at Gibeah.
And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites that day twenty and two thousand men.

After this they still went to enquire of the Lord and He still gave them the go ahead, but they still lost woefully again for the second time.

Judges 20:23-25 (KJV)

(And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)
And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.

So after they lost again it became clear that they were lacking something, and needed to do something different, and that was exactly what they did.

Judges 20:26-28 (KJV)

Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
And the children of Israel enquired of the LORD, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days,) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for to morrow I will deliver them into thine hand.

So they now added fasting to their prayer and that was how they unlocked the solution to the problems that they were facing as now God didn't only tell them to go up, but also that He was going to deliver the Benjamites into their hands. And so He did!

Judges 20:30 (KJV)

And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.

Judges 20:35 (KJV)

And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword.

So this is just another instance that illustrates the difference that fasting could make in situations that seem unsurmountable with prayer alone. For with fasting the children of Israel were able to surmount the difficult situation they faced which prayer alone couldn't help them solve.

God bless.

Day 9:

I had a midnight prayer as well and after i had a brief sleep, I woke up with a new song of worship in my mouth. I've been able to complete the remaining part of the song this morning.

I just finished praying but since I finished, the song somehow has refused to leave my mouth and I'm still singing it right now.

So God has put a new song in my mouth this morning.

Praise the Lord!

Day 11:

It's getting hotter by the day. By hotter, I mean the spiritual temperature is rising.

I could sense an increase in the intensity of God's presence upon me from yesterday up til this morning.

I expect it to keep rising as the days go by. Amen!

Fasting that God did not call you to do. You just want to prove yourself. pride of life at work. If indeed God called you to do a water fast for 21 days. He will strengthen you to finish through, so why the sudden change? Holyspirit does not operate like that

Nothing special in what you are doing. The average Nigerian eats once a day in this present economy. Infact some eat once every 2 days and they are normal. Better do the 21days water fast you were instructed to do and stop boboing us.
