Oloture: Mo Abudu Finally Speaks On Journalist Tobore Ovuorie’s Copyright Claim (Video)

Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu has addressed journalist Tobore Ovuorie’s copyright claim over Oloture, Igbere TV reports.

The 56-year-old shared a video speaking on Ovuorie’s claim in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

She said in May 2019 they reached out to Ovuorie to acknowledge her journalistic ability, to commend, recognise and encourage her in her ongoing campaign against sex trafficking.

“I would like to take a few minutes of your time today to shed some light on the recent allegations of copyright infringement made by investigative reporter Tobore Ovuorie against EbonyLife Films in relation to Oloture (the movie).

“I also stand as mentor to so many young girls and ladies, I never want to disappoint any of you, so again, I did this to give you all an understanding of the situation,” she wrote.

Igbere TV reports that publishers of Premium Times, had in November 2020, said journalist Tobore Ovuorie cannot claim copyright over the investigative report that inspired the movie Oloture.

Produced by EbonyLife, Oloture contains elements of a 2014 Premium Times report by Ms Ovuorie titled ‘Inside Nigeria’s Ruthless Human Trafficking Mafia’.

It is the story of a journalist who goes undercover as a prostitute to expose sexual exploitation and trafficking of young women to Europe.

The film which was released on Netflix in October has received rave reviews from different parts of the world.

Ovuorie, however, claims that the production is an infringement of her copyright as the subject and author of the story.

They should work out a format, & give Ms Tobore her share, no one wants to sit their whilst others are sharing money you know you are entitled to.

It is the story of a journalist who goes undercover as a prostitute to expose sexual exploitation and trafficking of young women to Europe.
They are supposed to compensate her BIG TIME for the movie.
Most def, the story is all about her... we found that out when we read about her interview she made well before the movie was shot.

But kudos to the actors, producers, directors of this movie.
They did a very good job.
We give them 101%.

We can't forget where they beheaded the innocent girl, twas too real and (un)believable!!

One of the best Nigerian movie on Netflix......no doubt!

naptu2:

If a journalist that is working with the NTA produces a report for the NTA, then that report belongs to the NTA. The NTA owns the copyright.

Mo Abudu approached Premium Times for permission and they gave her permission (because they own the copyright. You'll see it at the bottom of their website and paper).

However, Mo Abudu met with her and offered to give her a small percentage of the proceeds, for her NGO and she agreed. She was also credited in the end credits.
If that is so @the bolded,
Then, END OF STORY.
So what are they talking about again?

Thanks for making us understand better Chief Naptu.
Appreciate

I don't know why people find it hard to honor agreements ....it's clear it's her work you used so the least you can do is make sure you pay her for it ...The fact it didn't make cinema doesn't mean she won't be paid ...After selling it to Netflix give her something
