Hello, my Dell laptop which I complained about on this thread some months ago has finally decided not to turn on again whether by battery or AC power. It shows no light, no sign of life in it. This happened after I hibernated it. I had taken it for repair last month to fix a charging problem and why it charges now, it operates slowly when I use it with my charger, now this. It's obvious the technician didn't do a neat job because it looks like the whole power component of the system is messed up. What does this mean exactly? What parts of the laptop could have gone bad?

I think you need original charger. Nothing more or less.

Anytime I tampered with the battery of my pc, it always messed with the time setting. I guess that issues with the BIOS cell, how can I check that?

CMOS battery = Real time clock (RTC) = BIOS Cell

The cmos battery powers the ROM chip(where BIOS is stored) when the ac adapter or battery is not being used. It ensures the time and date are still working while the laptop is literally off. Hence, why the battery is often called Real time clock. So once the cmos battery is weak or dead, it won't be able to keep counting the date and time when the laptop is literally off. This is when you notice incorrect date and time, system configuration returning to default...etc

Enough of the jargons:

Press F2 key to set the date and time in bios setup and save it.

If this happens again you will have to replace the cmos battery. Loose the back cover of the laptop and look for the cmos battery (looks like a wristwatch battery but it is bigger than that of wristwatch).

Nah, I’ve gone to a technician. The issue is with the motherboard

No, he didn’t. It probably should be the power component of the motherboard. Either way, I’m not repairing it as there’s no guarantee that the issue won’t arise again. I’m replacing it

Help!!!

System: HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv6000

Screen brightness issue
Brightness control slider and hot keys doesn't control the screen brightness and I have installed the display adapter driver. Have also updated the driver, it says the driver software is up to date.

I noticed that the brightness control is literally working cause you know when the brightness is too high and the laptop is running on battery. It will display "Your current brightness setting might reduce battery life". This laptop does the same thing too but the screen brightness doesn't change at all.

Please check the below photos for further details.

Thanks.[img][/img]

Did you recently did a clean install of windows? the reason why the display brightness is not controlling, either with the hotkey brightness slider button or from within the power control options, not increasing and not decreasing, staying stagnant is because of some driver, not yet installed, usually your chipset driver or the graphics display adapter from the hp support website, not the one of wddm 1.0 or 1.1 windows generic driver. you have to install the appropiate drivers meant for the system

whats the model of the system? if it's mainly from intel chipset, u can get the driver from intel website. if its Amd graphics, u will download the specific graphics adapter from Amd website. u can as well use an updated driver packs installation disc to drive the system

Hp pavilion 6235ca

The graphic card is Intel GMA 950. I downloaded the driver from Intel website but it kept on installing Intel 945 chipset family.

Have used updated driver pack too no success

that is right, that is the way it should be. what windows did u install? that chipset is optimized and has support latest only for windows 7. no support for windows 8 and10. that's why u are facing that issue

Windows 7 ultimate. I also thought of this too.

The power control recognizes the change in brightness but the screen doesn't change at all.

then it might be an hardware issue that has to do with the screen, maybe the backlight, inverter

Hello Guys

My Hp Pavilion 15 keeps typing on its own. Only the (.) And it will keep typing repeatedly until I use backspace. And even then, it will still happen again. I don't think it's the keyboard because the pc is quite new. What could be the solution?

I just got this laptop last week, MSI,4gig ram,500hdd with 2 gig dedicated graphics card and windows 10.I took it for Microsoft office installation and a windows 7 was installed.
On bringing it back my son was trying to play angry bird friends game, the screen went blank with the sound of the game still on and the mouse button not clicking.
I powered it off and when it came back on, everything else is working except the mouse button.I've tried fn+f3 to lock and unlock touch pad to no avail.

when you restart the system, the touchpad is supposed to work normally. have you tried it with an external mouse?

if it does not work with an external mouse, then there is a whole lot of bigger hardware issue underneath. do you check if the drivers are installed appropiately, have you tried to uninstall, or update the touchpad drivers and restart afterwards?

I've uninstalled the touchpad drivers,it will work fine but it keeps re installing itself back( ELAN tech) and the problem will start again.

uninstall and delete permanently the stubborn drivers, so that it won't reinstall back when you restart the system. only install the proper mouse and touchpad driver meant for the system.
