As in eh. They are too good together. Their combined effort for the second goal was also explosive.

Stones and Dias have formed the best defensive partnership I have ever seen. Those two guys thrill me.

Gundogan is making us not miss David Silva so much. So energetic and brilliant.

Zinchenko complimented the midfield so well when he drifted into the middle repeatedly.

Fernandinho, Rock solid.

Highlight of the game, the introduction of Cancelo to play as a midfielder. Wow.

In the last game against Brighton, the commentator pointed out that Cancelo plays More as a midfielder than a side defender. In this game, we got a glimpse of what Cancelo can offer the team playing the ten role. He looked brilliant, although he was a bit out of place on the first few minutes.

Gundogan is never a defensive midfielder restricted his game so much, giving him attacking opportunities has exploded him

I wish Fernadinho was 5 years younger, We are winning the league grin

I also thought Gundogan was better playing deep in the midfield because of his Dortmund days but it seems he is suited for an offensive midfield play. It is working for him.

Imagine what a good partner can do to a player, I knew Stones was good but I didn't know he was this good, people will think this 4-0 was an attacking masterclass but it was actually a defensive masterclass

Man city without Diaz would have conceeded at 1-0 and end the game 1-1

Guy Gundogan goes into beast mode when he sees the post, I think what restricted him was having to help Rodri but with Fernadinho he is free to burst forward

I am more interested to see the changes that will occur with Ake. If Dias could influence Stones to play this good, I can imagine how Ake who is one talented freakshow will transform.

Garcia is making a mistake leaving us.

I also knew Stones had the talent but never thought he would ever come close to this kind of form.

Certainly back in the English squad.

These is some a useful link to study in-depth analysis of games. Reading some like these made me see similar patterns in future games I watched.

https://footballbh.net/category/analysis/match-analysis/

I read more of Tactical sites and try replicating my understanding in games.

For instance, if I noticed that Zinchenko tracks to the Midfield when the team is attacking through the centre, I criticise a player for not doing the same when another team is in possession and attacking through the centre.

Finally, I believe in possessive attacking play and believe in player movement and zones.

So if Semi Ajayi is playing for us and passes the ball to Maduka Okoye, I can criticise him if he does not spread out wide to create a passing channel for Maduka.

So it is all about replicating what I study from sites. I don't do books a lot.

https://footballbh.net/2020/11/27/uefa-champions-league-2020-21-olympiacos-vs-manchester-city-tactical-analysis-tactics/

Let us work with this link briefly to highlight what I do.

Manchester City vs Olympiacos.

Manchester City is a dominant, possessive and offensive side. Brutal in strength and Olympiacos had to defend.

The Greek wall
Organisation and shape were going to be the name of the game for Olympiacos. If they could force City to play wide and prevent players like Foden, Stirling and Jesus from getting the ball in between lines, then they could reduce the number of goal-scoring opportunities that they’d have.

So in future games, I can expect similar set up and can point out that I expect the team to set up a Greek wall to restrict (who ever is selected to play the offensive) of the stronger side to reduce goals.

Breaking down the wall
There were two primary ways in which Guardiola’s side looked to try and break down the Greek defensive block. The first method was looking to combine centrally to release a forward runner.

The second main method was to take advantage of Olympiacos’ vulnerable structure during moments of transition. With the agility and pace of City’s attacking players, if they could get in a position to drive at the Greek defensive line, then they were more likely to get a shot on goal.

So in games with similar scenario, if a team is finding it difficult breaking the wall, I expect to see these two applications to break down the wall.

Then keep pushing for other methods.

For instance, in one of the Chelsea games against PSG, I learnt that a possessive build up to the wings and winning corners can destroy a park bus side.

You don't need too much games to have an in-depth understanding.

Master few highly Tactical interesting ones.

Know there are mainly three scenarios.

1. Two offensive sides.

2. One offensive and one defensive.

3. Two boring sides (defensive) although these hardly happens.

Very important reading to study. Most of the offensive and possessive points covered.
