He refused to accept food from the Nigerian side, arguing that the Nigerian government would poison the food. And the food that still managed to enter Biafra from Nigeria was cornered and hoarded by the Biafran soldiers (who kept them for themselves and their families) who refused to share them with the civilians.

When the Nigerian side realized this, it decided that since it was the soldiers that were feeding fat on the humanitarian relief and food, why continue feeding the soldiers so that they can continue fighting a war they can't win, when the food wasn't even getting to those that needed it the most - - the starving Biafran civilians.

We can't love anyone who comes to our land and kill our people. We don't need a radio station to tell us anything. It's not our fault if your people keeps giving us reasons to hate them.

That's how shameless the country is. They have made it a tradition to celebrate a fight with the pictures of unarmed civilians right from the civil war. Where do we start?

The nigerian army fought a civil war with the Biafrans and up till today,we haven't seen much of the photos of the" defeated biafran soldiers" . Instead we only see starving and dying children. The worse of all is that they shamefully mastobate with those photos as " victory" from the war.

Is the python dance? Instead of the useless president to call ipob for a talk and try to sort out some issues, they decided to drink blood. Not only did they display the photos of dead unarmed ipob members, they also had to a video showing unarmed ipob members rolling in the mud on their orders. Surprisingly the whole country joined the worthless army to celebrate their" victory" against ipob members. Is that not a shame?

they had that chance and blew it....
that idiiot went to international media rantin how he would turn nigeria to another somalia....

who wan take somebody like that serious....??

My advice to Igbos is to be wise. This country is no doubt headed for the rocks and the disaster will shake the world but we must not play central role in it.

I have checked the dynamics I can say we are quite lucky that environmental and religious factors are in our favour. A war is coming but we should do all we can to avoid our homeland being made the theater.

Any careful observer would easily notice that the heat is already on the SW while the middle belt is frustrated and now has two options either to radically confront a monster or be swallowed. The Muslim barbarians won't be able to establish or take over our place like they did in Illorin.

Their interest is now in the SW and that is why they are invading the region in large numbers. Okada riding, a vocation that will give you access and make you understand an area is now completely in their hands.

Igbos should play a passive role. We must stoop to conquer. In fact, Nigeria need to last longer so that the perpetrators of that inhuman attrocities of 1966-70 would pay back in full.

How many has died already and how many is dying everyday? We should keep calm and allow karma to deal with them decisively.

Nigeria will ultimately break, so there is no need for us Igbos to sweat it, let's allow it to take its natural course.
You talk too much

Anyone who says he doesn't understand what happened before during and after the war is either blatantly ignorant or amazingly naive.

Some people are just too hard hearted, anybody that will rejoice or support the age long twisted facts from the British government over this war, is not worthy to be called a human being.

Some facts are undeniable.

Ojukwu didn't declare war against the Nigerian government.

The declaration of the State of Biafra was as a result of the senseless Nigerian state aided massacre of thousands of civilians of Igbo extraction in Northern Nigeria after the counter coup.

Ojukwu gave room for possible reconciliation and settlement, that is why he went to Aburi with other regional Military heads of government.

Aburi accord was divinely ordained to put Nigeria on the right trajectory after the senseless coup and counter coup, to the extent that the Ghanaian then Head of state was astonished on how friendly the Nigerian leaders at the meeting were tackling the issues one by one.

The Biafrans stood by Aburi Accord because that is the only way forward.

The Supreme Military Council of Nigeria headed by Gowon reneged on the agreements reached in Aburi. It was alleged that the British and the American ambassadors to Nigeria met with some Northern leaders and Gowon after Aburi and boom, Aburi accord was discarded.

The Supreme Military Council declared a "police action" an act of war against the Eastern Region and a full scale war ensued afterwards.

Any non Igbo that is interested to dig deep into this tragedy and the root cause of it should endeavour to read Ahiara declaration of 1969 with an unbiased mind, most of the problems we are facing today as a Nation are deep rooted.

Go back to your the hole where you belong. Ojukwu did not start any war

Was Nigeria prepared or had resources to fight the war? Nigeria at 60 still imports all its arm and ammunition. So imagine what it was in 1967 when Nigeria was only 7 years old.

Are you better off today in the One Nigeria you fought for than inthe Aburi Accord-type of Nigeria Ojukwu advocated?

demmie1:

Yes ojukwu starved those people.
He should have planned enough to know the possible outcomes of the war.
He should have gathered enough international support before starting a war.
He should have gathered enough resources to fight the war
He should have made enough provision for his people before going to war
He should have started defensive which was more efficient than wasting resources attacking
He should not have bragged about his capabilities when he's not capable
Natural response to weaken Biafra was to blockade it, it's as natural as breathing and if ojukwu tells us he didn't see that coming then he's either a drool or a devil.

This thread was opened (I hope) to just bring up history even if it's just showing the sufferings on the Biafra side(no harm done though). Let's not use it to reinstall a longtime hate that might have refused to go away.

That's because all accounts of the war showed that the Nigerian soldiers lost far more men and materials than the "weaker rebels". Even the classified files of the CIA that covered the entire war (which are available online incase anyone is interested in reading them) had some very interesting reports of how Biafran soldiers were having the upper hand at the early stage of the war, Nigerian soldiers were been massacred in the Northern border towns of Nsukka and it took them some months of hard fighting to finally get some significant grounds. The real casualties in Biafra were 70% civilians (mostly children starved to death), on the battlefields Biafran casualties were relatively on the low numbers, Nigerian troops on the other hand seemed ready to sacrifice hundreds to thousands of lives with millions of war machines expended just to capture a "rebel" stronghold.

Help a brother out.
Can you provide a link to those CIA files you mentioned, please?

This is truly saddening.

And to think the war has continued till today. Might not be bullets and bombs anymore, but marginalization and economic/infrastructural sabotage of the east.

Has one Nigeria been worth it?

Saddening is an understatement

But we must try our best to fix this nation so we can honor the memories of those lost

I read a report where at one point the WHO was screaming that 25000 children where dying a day in Biafra of dysentery during the war ! That is 25k children a day!!!! That is mind numbing figures ,the report said the Nigerian army stopped medicines going into Biafra

We must heal as a nation , we must learn the lesson and grow stronger unitedly

Thank you for this

I always suspected it was a lie

All records even in research I have done shows Awolowo instituted the Food blockade I was surprised when some where telling me it was Ojukwu

Thanks for clearing the air. Lies and propaganda won't help us heal we all need to accept what happened and move forward
