To be sincere with u sir, nothing is as good as all these imported dry feeds(or even our own Binngo); it has EVERYTHING u need. We are only improvising cos of the cost. Since it's a GSD, a 10kg puppy feed would be Ok for a month. Just be adding milk and egg

After I got him at a little over 8 weeks, the breeder suggested I continue feeding him Diamond Puppy dry dog food. I bought the medium pack but the dog rarely eats it. I tried wetting the dry food with milk and water separately at different times but he rarely eats it.

Instead, he prefers to eat anything he sees me eating. As expected, his stool is mostly soft and does smell like human poop at times.

I plan to try this local dog food formular this weekend and I hope he likes it.

Aside him eating what I eat, I feed him raw egg daily and on weekends I boil a good amount of meat for him. I don't know if this is okay?

▪️1 Part Groundnuts
▪️Fish (could be crayfish, fish waste, etc and as much as you can afford. You can do 1 part fish of your choice, don't just go overboard as too much protein isn't good).

Roast the soya beans and groundnuts to remove the shaft. Then grind all together until very smooth.
NB; grind the corn first before adding the other ingredients, as corn is the hardest of them.

PROCEDURE FOR COOKING
Into a pot of water on fire, pour some of the formula and stir (e.g 2 tin cups of milk into 1&1/2 glass cup of water). Keep stiring until you get a consistency like pap (Ogi). It takes a little while to get this consistency, so be patient. If it's too thick, you can add some water. For the wee pups, it's shouldn't be thick. For older dogs, you can serve thick. Add a little salt or seasoning when it's ready. You can also add palm oil if you so desire. Serve cool.

NB; Your dogs won't readily eat it, as its new to them so start small when cooking.

Here's a tip from a fellow nairalander @LordRegalia, if you're having trouble getting your dogs to eat something new, mix it with something they really like. In my case I mixed it with pedigree (rice & chicken). The trick is to have more quantity of what your dog likes with little of what you're introducing. Begin to reduce what it likes while adding more of the staple food - in this case the formula, until it's just the staple food they're consuming.

Hello. I'm not a fan of homemade dog food at all. In dog food, there are many more useful trace elements and vitamins that dogs need. I used to feed my dog homemade food too, but later he developed allergies and frequent indigestion due to certain foods. The vet put my dog on a diet, and then changed his diet and prescribed food. Now I only buy it for him on Best Dog Food For Huskies. For probably five years now, and my dog still loves this food so much. So be careful with homemade food, it seems to me that this is not the best thing you can do for your four-legged friends.

Try mixing the dry feed with beef stock or chicken brooth, I am optimistic the dog would gubble it down

Hi,

If you're having issues with your dam, you should consult a vet.
The reason your dam is not gaining weight is because she's depleting her body's reserves at her own expense. This is why at this time, her meals should be highly nutritious.

Feeding your dam with just kibbles will not meet up with her current requirements. She should be fed with highly nutritious and palatable meals to help recover nutrients and electrolytes lost during whelping, as well as help with lactation for the pups.

The above formula might help in providing nutrients for your dam. However, you might want to augment it. I suggest you add chicken to it after preparing. The broth used to cook the chicken can also be added to it while preparing. Make sure to remove the bones from the chicken, so as to reduce the stress of having to crack the bones.
Also, always make sure there's water in her whelping box to prevent dehydration. You can give her this three times daily while still giving her the kibbles. As I do not know the amount of litter, you should note that the larger the litter, the greater the nutrient requirements for milk production and consequently, the greater the portions served. Sources of fat are also very important for the overall wellbeing of the dam. In the formula described above, the groundnuts and fish have adequate amount of fats, but you might want to also give your dam whole eggs as eggs contain more than the normal requirement of fat in then.

Your dam might reject some of these foods. So monitor her closely and find out what she likes. Also, do not over feed her. Giving her the right amount is just sufficient.

To recap, introduce chicken bits to the formula. Add broth from the chicken while preparing the formula. Feed 3x daily. If you wish, you can give her kibbles once a day. Water should be readily available to prevent dehydration. Also, one whole egg per day. I hope this helps.

I never remove the groundnut peel since Humans eat it...

Also, maybe u should start small. Don't go buying large quantities for a start cos depending on your dog's age and how 'spoilt' it is, it might reject the food. I started introducing it to my dogs by first mixing it with their indomie before I gradually gave it solely to them. It's this same formula that is in 'mixed indomie'.

Lastly, if u want to use maize, use the YELLOW and not the white one cos it contains better nutrients. But personally, I use wheat cos it's has more calorie and makes their stool firm(wheat meal) as against the watery one you get from maize(Pap). Though the price of wheat has doubled too #400 per Bowl while maize is cheaper

1.Roast it separately. The goal of roasting the Gnut is to make it very dry while that of the Soya is to remove the toxic peel. As for me, I remove the soya peel using water then I oven dry the combination of the beans and Nuts.

Please, don't be tempted to buy Fishmeal, GroundNut cake and Soya meal from feedmills. The fish meal is artificially preserved while the oda 2 usually contain toxins and all the oils would have been squeezed out. For the GroundNut, u can buy KULI-KULI crumbs from the Hausa guys as substitute; it cost #400 per Bowl. However, there's no alternative for the fish waste and Soya(#300 and #170 per bowl respectively).

2. it's going to be in powdery form cos all the materials(Fish waste/crayfish, soya, Gnut, wheat/corn and indomie waste or broiler feed) must be dry else it'll get spoilt. It'll be grinded like yam flour.

And to avoid using Maggi as spice when cooking it, buy some ginger and grind it too.
