Thanks guys. I tried this and I am glad I did. Though na only my Boerboel dey rush the tin like mad, while my Caucasians dey form butty. For the male CO, I am not really disappointed bcus the dog doesn't eat much, he only eat little of whatever u give him. The female CO eats better but not much of this particular food. What I later did for her was to add milk and wen I wasn't satisfied enough with the way she was eating, I added egg and she ate well, I need her to feed well bcus she just had her puppies. Whenever she didn't eat after adding all, I still end up giving dry food. For a boerboel, is that how they all eat or did one is just different? She can eat for Africa. Lol 1 Like |

Thanks to everyone in here for the knowledge am grateful. Am yet to try the above recipe on my 15 months female Caucasian, she is 7 weeks pregnant can I feed her the above formulation? If yes can I replace the groundnut with kwili kwili? I also understood that crayfish can be used in place of fish! Will be waiting for an answer once again thanks to you all. |

Mccarthyal: Hello sir, read through the thread and I'm happy how uve been following through and helping pple achieve results. My 14 weeks old female bull mastiff has been on Binggo mixed with boiled fish and lately mixed with raw egg. She's chubby but not tall, I want to try this formula. The groundnut, can I use the roasted bottled one we use to soak garri? |

oyeyipow: yes |
Re: Advice On Local Recipè For Dog Food by fabulouskay(m): 12:19pm On Apr 05, 2017 |
oyeyipow: Please don't; you'd spend a lot. A bowl(Kongo/Mudu) of fresh groundnut in the market is #420. All you need to do is to oven-dry if u can't roast it. Just do the maths... Please note that the feed might not make her tall if the parents aren't |
Re: Advice On Local Recipè For Dog Food by oyeyipow(m): 6:44pm On Apr 05, 2017 |
fabulouskay: I'll try sir, I doubt I can roast It tho. If I can't I'll just buy already made ones. |
Re: Advice On Local Recipè For Dog Food by fabulouskay(m): 4:48am On Apr 08, 2017 |
oyeyipow: ...try 'Kuli-kuli' (groundnut cake) crumbs from the Mallams in the market first... A bowl cost abt #400. Also, go to a feedmill and buy 'VITAMIN PREMIX' to mix with everything before grinding. And lastly, go to any vet-shop(particularly the poultry ones) to buy 'BIOVIT/ANIMAL TONIC' to put in the drinking water, or more effectively, in the food after cooking. So sorry I replied a bit late sir 4 Likes |

Can I use regular fowl feed in place of the corn? |
Re: Advice On Local Recipè For Dog Food by fabulouskay(m): 1:32pm On Apr 29, 2017 |
IMPORTANT INFO Guys, just as u know, I've been an avid promoter of this local dog feed recipe because I've been using it religiously for my dogs for years with some reasonable level of success... But I must confess, it hasn't been as effective as any manufactured dog feed, not even our Nigeria-made Binngo feed, no matter how much 'protein' I add. 'Why?' I asked myself. So, I did some digging and discovered that although Dogs are omnivores, they are carnivores by scientific classification: They do not flourish while on Plant-protein based recipes and they do not produce enough Amylase to digest starch! This explains why manufactured dog feeds and feed supplements like BullyMax are expensive as they are mostly animal-protein based. So, here are my suggestions if u want your dog to flourish: 1. keep feeding your pet with this recipe but supplement it with BullyMax, Gorilla Max or the likes; 2. replace most of the Gnut and Soya with EQUAL quantity meat-meal or fish-meal; 3. Buy a lot of beef/pork parts to supplement it daily; 4. Buy some dog feed and mix with this local recipe 5. Switch permanently to manufactured feeds(It almost amounts to same thing (minus the stress) as a Kg of fishmeal is #1,200 and a Bowl of dried Cow kidney and liver is #1,000) OR 6. Stay on this recipe if u are satisfied with the results or can't afford Plenty Animal-protein for. now. Please note that I am not saying that this local recipe is bad, but just that it is clearly not good enough if you want an enviable dog. Good day.. Pls I have a 7 weeks pup. feeding them is not easy. so I came for home made recipes and found dis post. I have gone through all the posts and have some questions to ask. 1.what do u mean by FISH MEAL 2. Would it be OK to increase the ratio of those protein source like soya beans, fish, groundnuts. 3. would it be OK to add GROUND EGG shell to the formulae 4. should the soya beans be soaked before frying.. if yes how long should I soak it. 5.you talked about animal protein,so is fish also an animal source of protein. Pls I anticipate ur reply |
Re: Advice On Local Recipè For Dog Food by fabulouskay(m): 2:36pm On Dec 06, 2017 |
zadokokezie: 1. Fish meal(not fish feed) is an animal feed gotten from grinding dried fish. Just go to any livestock feedmill and ask for it. There r 2 types; Imported for #1000 and Local for #800 per kg. Although I'll advice u go to any cold room to get 1/4 carton of HERRING fish for #2,500. This will last u a month(it's cost effective- 4kg), it's fresh and has essential oils... 2. Increase the animal protein sources instead of the plant protein sources. Dogs don't do well on plant proteins. Intact, if not for the economy, would av advised u to substitute all the plant proteins with animal ones. Don't waste ur money increasing the soy and groundnut; if u can't afford more fish, milk, egg or meat, just leave it that way... 3. It's okay, but so as not to waste time and energy, just add 1kg bone meal/oyster shell/Limestone to every 10kg of the feed. 4. There are 2 separate methods, either u fry till the peels fall off or u soak in water to remove the peels and then sun/oven dry before grinding. 5. Fish is an animal, isn't it? Please note that since ur puppy is 7 weeks, this feed will not work well(except u over embellish with a lot of animal protein ie egg, fish, milk, meat etc). Also note that this feed ONLY works well with light breeds and not mastiffs: Binngo(as poor as it is) is several times better than this local recipe. |
Re: Advice On Local Recipè For Dog Food by fabulouskay(m): 2:40pm On Dec 06, 2017 |
vincentjk: I have a feeling that ur dog is not a Mastiff. No offence but this meal(in the pix) is not even up to a snack for those greedy guys! |

fabulouskay: My dog is a Gsd But these combination will work for any dog so far you schedule well |
Re: Advice On Local Recipè For Dog Food by fabulouskay(m): 4:21am On Dec 07, 2017 |
[quote author=vincentjk post=63049172] My dog is a Gsd But these combination will work for any dog so far you schedule well[/quot Bro, no need to argue but own a Boerboel first and feed exclusively with this feed... Define 'Schedule well'. The fact is that as long as animal protein isn't at least 35% of the total composition, a mastiff won't flourish on this feed. Unfortunately, making this feed that way is more expensive than Booster as a 6month old mastiff will eat 750g of this feed daily and still be hungry(just do the maths) |

Phew... Just seeing this thread now. Gotta give it to some of the guys who tried their best to help out. Y'all kind so much. Truth is, the OP who complained about diamond price isn't the first and won't even be the last. So we all looking for how to maximize output at a given level of price. This has made me support our local manufacturers & locally made dry foods (Nutritola and Amical Patte dog dry food). No disrespect to the guys who have helped out on this thread, but then there are certain ingredients needed for overall growth that this our local recipe just doesn't give us, particularly those who feed large breeds like the boerboels, Chonditrin and glucosamine almost inevitable. But for a reasonable cost, these local manufacturers has been able to lift the burden. Encouraging locally made dry food is the way to go people. Let's support our own. Well-done to the guys who contributed to this thread. 2 Likes |

prinzetobi: chondroitin and glucosamine are really important especially for large breeds but the truth is that some of these dry feeds don't have them while those have them are usually in minute quantities and the best way is to supplement and besides this local dog food can be made with crayfish and chicken and even ginger which have glucosamine or better still get the supplement. 2 Likes |
