Livestock Biz is an on the job training Biz , so many farmers are now having too many unsold stock the reason been that from the onset , 99% never did any visibility study , someone ones called me and asked if I could supply him 1000 DOC broilers , I said yes but I asked him what's the plan for sales he said he knows that they are usually very high demand during Christmas I asked for his proposed budget for the birds he said 700k I tried to explain to him that the budget will not work and that both his logistics and plan for sales will not work , he asked me if I wasn't capable of the supply . I told him that am very much capable even if its 10000 supply
Long story short , I did the supply guided them and up until now he has not sold more than 200 birds,
He has now come back to ask way forward even when I told him he will now pay for consultation ,his ready to pay.
Now the morale of the story is as a first timer u will need all the necessary planing to succeed even if u are meant pay money , pay and learn the ropes no Biz will grow if u jump from the centre no matter how wise we are.
To those planing on growing in poultry Biz pls take ur time to plan with the calendar and grow and to those who wants to cash out during festivities pls take ur time to plan on your marketing cos the sad thing about any livestock is if u miss ur selling target they will keep eating and may even fall sick and some may even die.
So plan , execute and sale "Goodluck"

I don’t know about you guys, it’s been such a bad year... Expensive feed plus little to no demand has finished me.

Over 500 Birds unsold. How do you guys do it?

Hmmmm, this is huge. Just look for how to sell them, meet fast food sellers or market women or hausas both the one selling lives one the one selling suya or look for where you can be selling for buyers directly and by this means be ready to kill it for them.

He can also meet those that have frozen foods shops and those who have cold rooms also. Or you can also see if you can also do a little cold room by the side. Just look at it from a business point of view. Some people I know started business like this because they were in a fix and had to get out.

Happy New Year to every hardworking farmer here! I quite find the discussion on which strain is more heat resistant at this time. From a few accounts shared here, it seems Ross 308 from Agrited had issues with heat. So my questions are: which strain will be most adaptable to heat, resistance to diseases, big comb & good height?
Reared Cockerels this last time & would like to try Broiler this time.

Dont even try broiler if you aint get the mkt
You can port to Noiler.Kuroiler or Sasso

I'm looking at compounding correct formula for broiler feeds, I think it will reduce cost a bit compared to buying finished feeds... Can anyone help in supplying formula for broiler?

The word best is not to be used here cos , there is no best drug what works for you may not work for me .
But very good strong antibiotics to be used for birds I will say Dogxygen 20/20 although its expensive but the result out weighs the price

Formulas most times goes with weather in cold weather u increase energy and in hot/warm weather u moderate energy but u can visit the mill u intend using they always have ready formula to assist
Or u can buy concentrate from feed company's and mix it with maize and wheat oval
Good luck

Whats the color of their poop and hope their was no spillage when vaccinating for gumboro and if you had alot of spillage then you have an outbreak of gumboro then get iodine to the the rescue

Greediness is not an English word.
Greed is the correct word

Don't mind the dude. He is looking for drugs to make them blow up. I have replied him to go and eat his cancerous birds. Don't waste your time responding to such nasty person. Always finding short cuts. 10 weeks and his birds are 1.5kg. Instead of him to ask for good feed brand and how right to feed them, he's looking for drugs to pump them up. Many people deserve slaps. He is one of them. What one should not even think or imagine. Greediness will kill him.[/quote]

Dear colleagues,
considering the high cost of feed and obvious low quality observed in most feeds in the market currently.what can I add to the feeds given to my broilers?... soya beans, wheat, millet? I just need additional nutirients that may be lacking in processed feeds.
pls advice!

There is nothing you can add which is good. Grains produced are not for livestock production, but for human consumption in Nigeria. Those feed manufacturers and importers think they are good, but they dont realise they will all be affected very soon. Even DOCs DOTs DODs will be affected soon. Do not join people who grow with steroids. And this is the reason I do not eat chicken except the ones I grow organically. Imagine where the chickens you eat come from, knowing fully well things arent easy. This is why 98% of chickens we eat are imported, grown with steroids, preserved with chemicals, and then thwarted many times that bacteria invade them.

A good reason that will make the Fulani herdmen relevant in Nigeria. The problem in Nigeria is easy to solve, but ethics, religion, and politics are the 3 demonic tools used against Nigeria.

I have a suggestion for you:

Do what I did some years ago when I realised Nigeria is not a well balanced nation. Balance your business by learning Integrated Farming. Learn vegetables and grains production. It is another long rope learning curve. You may not have time for Nairaland again, but believe me, you will be sustained. You will never complain again. Listen, things are not going to get cheaper soon, and if you do not want to quit, do what I am about telling you. Read further.

Use your manure to grow corn and other grains, but you may just do only corn. It is just 3 months job, and you can do just 3 months every year and store your corn. Look into preventing Aflotaxin while growing corn so that you do not buy enzymes for your corn again. These things are deep, but start somewhere..

For you protein, your best bet is to look into maggot production. Research Black Soldier Fly Larvea production. You feed them your manure, kitchen wastes and open market wastes. And they produce 38% to 42% crude protein. You just need to sit down and calculate the Dry matters needed to equal starter, grower, and finishing feeds. Then, add other ingredients. Really you dont need to buy all those chemicals like choline lysine bla bla bla. Rather go for natural vitamins. Different types of waste fruits and vegetables can do it. Add them to their drinking water and they even love it so much. Learn how to kill all pathogens in them before feeding them to broilers since they are not so strong. Look more into poultry organic production if you produce 100 and less at a time.

Livestocks integrated with vegetables and grains is the forward. Do not be shocked when vegetables give the highest income out of all.

My advice is you take your time. I am an advocate of DIY - Do It Yourself. You can gain practical experience by doing pilots. I can recommend where you buy the eggs, and then, you start gradually. There is nothing hard in it, but people are just lazy. Do not pay for any tutorial or training. You can use YouTube, internet, and online materials to get what you want. Very easy to do. People are just lazy.

If I open a thread today and say: release your numbers and join whatsapp group, I am sure I will have up to 15 groups filled up. But do I have such time? Nope. What I know that work, and suggestions, I put here. Personally, I do not like collecting money to teach. Teaching for me is an investment. I love picking good brains and I team up with them. I pick people online from time to time.
