Again the clown kept mentioning the unviability of Birnin-Kebbi airport, Gusau airport, Gombe airport and the likes as their reason why airports should not be built in even viable places!

Again, in 1982 when the President Shagari's administration wanted to build an airport in Onitsha despite knowing there was an airport in Enugu, it was purely based on economic reasons! Now Shagari did not mention building an airport in Birnin Kebbi because he knew it didn't make the same economic sense as a federal airport in Onitsha!

But the Nigerian tribal factor ensured the Onitsha airport was never built! Instead they used the funds to build airports in Makurdi and Yola! Again, i would expect those fake airport viability economists to come and tell me that if Onitsha airport had been built the same time as Markudi and Yola airports, it would have been unviable like the others.

We all know Anambra deserves an airport and we all know it will be one of the most viable in the country. So why throw that silly argument that Nigeria built unviable airports in Potiskum out of tribalism and it didn't work, so don't build airport in Anambra or Lagos where airports are indeed needed?

Also the silly argument that one airport is in Enugu which is 100 KM away would have made sense if the roads were maintained to the highest standards and the airport in Enugu equipped with the proper equipment to enable it function as a true international airport that can take any type of plane from anywhere in the world. After all the brouhaha of closure of the Enugu airport for one whole year, the FG still did not elongate the #KM runway by one inch, did not build a taxiway and did not install ILS Cat 2 Systems to enable it function as a true International airport. Yet, they have devoted N30 billion naira to install these facilities at Katsina airport! Which rarely receives even domestic flights!

It all goes to tell you that they are not sincere about their argument. It is merely a ploy to keep you down perpetually while citing bogus incoherent argument that does not match the reality on the ground.

See video of the marvelous expressway between Enugu and Anambra for those people pretending that an expressway of less than 100 KM exist between Enugu and Anambra. Those of you pretending that they didn't know that it takes more than 5 hours to drive from Enugu to Anambra on the so called "Federal Expressway!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlC6Ygv6nt4&feature=emb_title

So instead of coming together with the Enugu government to reconstruct the unmotorable sections of the most important expressway in the SE (which will be reimbursed by the FG), building an airport that loses money every year is the solution? If you live in certain parts of Lagos with very bad roads, it can take you more than 5hrs to get to your destination in Lagos. 2 years ago, getting from Badagry to Mile 2 on Lagos-Badagry expressway would take you far more than 5 hours. That's before you even start thinking of reaching airport in Ikeja. Infact, even on good roads, traffic gridlock with tankers and trailers blocking the roads is enough. Many people in Lagos don't drive to work and okada is their transport mode of choice or you'll sleep driving on the road. So these are bad excuses to saddle yourself with a vanity project. The fact is majority of Anambrarians are well served by surrounding airports if they want to use them because Anambra is a very small state and neighboring states are easily accessible and this mitigates the need for its own airport when it is surrounded by accessible airports.

Nwokem, stop deluding yourself with silly argument! Ordinarily i ignore people like you that it is obvious are motivated by primitive envy. But it is important to point out a few things because i have seen many like you here and even on facebook spilling bile just because a fellow state in the south east is finally getting an airport? Meanwhile every state in the south south has at least one airport! About 80 - 90% of states in the northwest, north central and even northeast have airport! Infact Anambra airport will only be the 3rd airport in the entire southeast region, which is the lowest number of airports among the 6 geopolitical regions! Some of you are truly pathetic.

Anyway, back to your argument;
Does Lagos have an airport? YES!
Is there any part of Lagos beyond 100 KM from the Lagos airport? No!
If Lagos did not have an airport with its economic indices and an airport exists in Ibadan, Would Lagos build an Lagos airport? YES!!! For a FACT!
In fact, Lagos is planning a SECOND International airport at Eko Atlantic city and it is well deserved if that city takes off.

So why are you twisting your head comparing apples and oranges, and thinking we are all brain dead that can't tell the difference? Again the same argument was made against owerri airport with many like you saying it will cause PH and Enugu airports to close down. Did Owerri airport cause Enugu and PH airports to close down? When ASUTECH was established in 1980s, many similarly called creation of state universities the "proliferation of universities" when Nigerians had not filled the quota capacity of UNN. Today, the same people are calling for more federal universities in their new states claiming the existing STATE universities are insufficient! Mind you, the same state university was a campus of ASUTECH! Do you now get where i am going? Out of respect, i will not mention the name of the politician.

NO IGBOMAN SHOULD CASTIGATE ANY DEVELOPMENT IN IGBOLAND JUST BECAUSE ITS NOT IN HIS STATE. Afterall, Stella Oduah fought for Enugu airport to become international and she is still paying the price for the bitterness it generated with other tribes in Nigeria. Let us learn to appreciate and support good things wherever we see them in Igboland, and stop joining those with hidden agenda to make Igboland the backyard of Nigeria without airports, seaport or any critical infrastructure whatsoever.

Since in your mind, Igbo nation deserves only one airport at Enugu, why don't you simply advice the Enugu state government to build the expressway from Ugwuoba to Enugu so that coming from Anambra will be easier? In any case, it will cost more than N100 billion to build that distance of expressway which is clearly beyond the financial capacity of Enugu state unless Nigeria is restructured so that states collect taxes on a lot of things and toll gates.

Enugu will always be the capital of Igboland and No airport or mansion built outside Enugu is big or important enough to take that away. But we should be happy to see development in all parts of Igboland. Knowing that we live in a country with deliberate conspiracy to make Igboland the Poto-poto capital of Nigeria. But they are not God! That is why i also support the development of an Ebonyi International airport because it will boost the development of Ebonyi state. i would be at the forefront to encourage the next Abia Governor to prioritize an airport somewhere between Aba - Umuahia to also support speedy access to the state. I would support regional railway network as the Federal Government has refused to build any railway in Igboland. But prefers to build it in a foreign country Niger Republic!

Like all fair-minded onye Igbo, you should be happy that infrastructure denied the southeast by the oppressive federal government is finally being built by the state! Just see how you delude yourself turning and twisting deluded arguments to find any reason to justify the injustice that Anambra does not deserve an airport? It's shameful bro that any Igboman should reason like that. Just too shameful. I hate that i had to reply you in social media too. It's totally repugnant for me to address this behavior in public.

the money spent on the airport, may not be enough to reconstruct that road. by the way, a good portion of the anambra section is very motorable, so what do you expect the anambra governor to do exactly? to gift their money to enugu state government to build a federal road? does that make sense to you?

what makes enugu the capital of igboland exactly? apart from government buildings built in the military era when it was the administrative capital. nothing indicates that it is the capital of the southeast. Enugu has fallen behind imo, anambra and abia in IGR and investments, it's only ahead of ebonyi and that may not be for long. According to the FAAN, imo airport is the only slightly profitable airport in the region. the state has oil and gas investments. abia and anambra control a large share of Nigeria's markets. anambra builds new dedicated markets almost yearly. For enugu, I don't really know what they can stand out for.

I don't care what haters say about the airport in Umueri via Aguleri. Hate can only poison the bearer no one else. The airport has taken off and its completion and eventual use to the glory of God and Anambra state is on course. My only appeal is that it should be named after the builder, Chief Willie Obiano Akpokuedike Ndi Igbo. I trust the incoming governor Chukwuma Soludo to give him that honour for breaking the jinx.

The airport will ultimately be named after Chief Willie Obiano. Whether the next government do it or not. It cannot be disputed that he could have easily stolen the money like Orji Uzor Kalu, Rochas or even Hope Uzodinma, and nothing will happen.

Investing on important projects to uplift the state shows his love for the progress of his state.

BTW, please don't mind those sore losers coming here to spill their frustration that another state is getting an airport. I know what my people saw when we were lobbying for Asaba airport and others were going out of their way to block it! Today, they all use Asaba airport and shamelessly forgot how they tried to block the project. Some of these people here are just dark bitter souls. The types that poison their best friend just because their best friend gained admission to a university or achieved a little success.

Besides, Nigeria is such a populous country that more airports with more airlines will help air travel to develop and become very cheap for more people to participate. They just have a very primitive mindset that Nigeria's population and economy will not grow anymore therefore, any airport using 5 people will continue with those 5 people for ever. They even forgot that until very recently only very few Nigerians had ever flown in an airplane.

Mechiionu nsi gi. See how you are embarrassing yourself here. Chimaadeoye has really dragged you around with facts and figures.

Go home and cry your heart out because Anambra international airport has come to stay and it will be the busiest airport in Nigeria after Lagos and Abuja because most air travelers outside these two cities live in Anambra.
Again, you are not from Anambra, let everyone here note that.

Obi1kenobi:

1) I'm from Anambra. Lose the sentiments and focus on the substance of the argument.) Ebonyi's airport is an equally insane vanity project) All the other states you're calling didn't need an airport either. Well, maybe a few Northern states other than Kano due to the vast landmass and issues of accessibility may need airports. Anambra's airport considering the accessibility of surrounding airports is a dumb vanity project.) An airport will not support Anambra's economy. It will be a net drain on resources which will rot like most public utilities in Nigeria rather than a source of growth and revenue. Stop deceiving yourselves with fantasies. Arguably as many high net-worth individuals (the kind of people who would use airports) live in states like Enugu and Delta than Anambra and airports have not turned those states to Dubai. No state "deserves" anything. That's like saying I "deserve" my own private jet. Who are these experts that identified the need for an Anambra airport? You've already proven why it's a vanity project by pointing out Onitsha was earmarked for an airport but Delta pre-empted this by establishing one in Asaba which is separated from Onitsha by a bridge. grin Therefore in still choosing to build an airport when Asaba airport can easily serve all Onitsha travelers, you're proving that it's just an ego trip to sate your vanity, so that you can say "we sef get our own airport". Airports are money guzzlers and pretty damn hard to maintain. It's hard enough maintaining the only 2 commercially viable airports in Nigeria in Lagos and Abuja. To believe this can be undertaken in Anambra is a fanciful delusion.can guarantee you nobody has ever claimed the emboldened above. Nobody. Some of you are just so wrapped up in victim narratives that you victimize yourselves even when no one is victimizing you. Of course airports are needed in the East. A tiny state like Anambra surrounded by accessible airports does not need to prioritize a vanity white elephant project when the state is lacking in so much critical infrastructure that will actually impact the lives of taxpayers. The only international airport in the whole East (I'm including both the SE and SS) that is even close to being viable is Port Harcourt airport. It's funny how this airport was marketed as a cargo airport as if air freight which is very expensive will ever be a primary means of international freight in a shiithole like Nigeria. It's also funny to see you comparing American states to Nigeria. New Jersey has a far bigger GDP than the whole of Nigeria. New York's GDP is about 4 times the whole of Nigeria's. Infact, 15 American states each have a bigger GDP than the whole of Nigeria. And you're comparing their need for airports with Anambra's. Will you also compare the need for stadia in America to Anambra. If we decide to build a 100,000 seater stadium in Anambra like some NFL or MLB teams in the US, do you think it will be a viable money spinner like American stadiums or it will just rot like the national stadiums on life support in Nigeria. Which do you think is likely?

Exactly, Anambra needs an airport .How do people believe that one of the most populated state and among the most industrialised states in the country doesn't need an Airport ?
The SE governor's whom decided to each build an Airport aren't stupid. We saw the politics playing out in the Enugu Airport, it was shut down for over a year and every South Easterner had to travel to the SS or SW in other to leave the country.
Look at the project Rochas started at the imo Airport ,ask yourself why uzodinma and the Apc fed government left it abandoned?
point is, as long as Enugu is the only International airport in the SE, the federal government will always find a reason to shut it down or help it underperform. we need that airport in Anambra desperately

Don't mind This kinda human beings

The other day mktinsight came up with Airport stories, how Airport works,
Every day ungreatful beings will be talking shits over an international airport that will soon be completed and comissioned

Even if I were told, I won't believe that even at this stage, some humans will still be arguing over Anambra International Airport

It's now seen that even after completion and commission of Anambra airport some ediots will still be arguing that Anambra Airport can not be completed

If Anambra doesn't need an Airport, then Abuja does not need one.
Kaduna or kano Airports should have served them. And besides, it is mostly used by Politicians.
Please if you don't like Anambra Airport, You can go to Asaba,Enugu,IMO or even Bayelsa or Rivers and enter their own.
How somebody in his right state of mind will look a state with Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and Ihiala axis and say Airport is a nonsense project.
My prayer is let there be massive investment in the airport. So that flight ticket will be cheapest like 10 to 20k.
All these our transport companies like GUO, young shall grow etc should look beyong hiace bus and think like Innoson who started with okada spare parts importation.
Partner and upgrade to flight services. We want flight ticket to be around 10k.
We don't want Nigeria sentiment that aeroplane is for the well to do alone in our Anambra Airport.

Their twisted logic immediately come up when it is about an infrastructural project in Igboland. They made the same argument that Imo airport won't be viable because Enugu was there. Then they made the same argument that Asaba won't be viable because there were nearby Imo and Enugu. In all their crooked analysis, both Imo and Asaba are some of the most viable airports in Nigeria.

We already know their bitterness against Igbos. This is why Nigeria MUST restructure or breakup so that one part of the country will stop frustrating development in another part of the country. From the looks of it, we are going to have a second civil war before some people understand that it is unsustainable to try to hold a whole section of the country down for ever. Let their paid crook mktinsight keep writing with different monikers and praying for evil, it is coming to a head soon.

Y

For the records, the Airport is called Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport Umueri.

It is a State project done with state money and not Obiano's personal fund.

All appropriations/allocation for the project passed through the State House of Assembly including the Name of the Airport.

Suggesting that the Airport should be named after Obiano is foolishness (and a day dream).

If other Governor's who built Airports in their respective states didn't name the Airport after their names, why must Anambra own be named after the governor?

Or is Obiano the first governor to build Airport?

The Airport will be named after Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu in consonance with traditions of Federal airports..

When the time reaches, Obiano knows what to do.

That can be more reasonable and we wouldn't have a problem with "Odumegu Ojukwu International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri"

1) I'm from Anambra. Lose the sentiments and focus on the substance of the argument.
2) Ebonyi's airport is an equally insane vanity project
3) All the other states you're calling didn't need an airport either. Well, maybe a few Northern states other than Kano due to the vast landmass and issues of accessibility may need airports. Anambra's airport considering the accessibility of surrounding airports is a dumb vanity project.
4) An airport will not support Anambra's economy.

To believe this can be undertaken in Anambra is a fanciful delusion.

I can guarantee you nobody has ever claimed the emboldened above.
Bro the airport has been build up to 20 or 30 percent, no one can stop it now, can we move to more important things that will make the state great.

Well for the records, i did not say that Obiano should name the airport after himself. Yes, there are many Governors that built airports which was named after them to honor them by subsequent administrations.

1. Imo airport Owerri was renamed Sam Mbakwe International Cargo airport after dee Sam Mbakwe who built it wit donations from Imo people.

2, Katsina airport was renamed Umaru Yar'Adua airport to honor the memory of Umaru Yar'Adua who built it as Katsina governor.

3. Uyo airport was renamed Obong Victor Attah International airport to honor Gov. Victor Attah who built it.

I guarantee you that if Uduaghan dies today (God forbid), my state's Asaba airport will be renamed Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan airport to honor the man who built it.

I trust the incoming governor Chukwuma Solo to give him that honour for breaking the jinx.
You just spoke my mind 100%!!! I dont know why people are hear arguing with charlatans why Anambra does not need an airport that is already more than halfway completed. They can as well argue Enugu, Rivers, Lagos etc does not need an airport. Instead of making noise on nairaland and crying over spilled milk, they can as well team up and go to the site to end work there! Ndi Ara

What I'm very concerned now is that Anambra Airport must be named after Willie Obiano.. I was so happy to see you say that because I already started that campaign myself.. For him to be visionary enough to take on that project when other individuals will be complaining of lack of funds, like the previous governor, and other things he has done in the state, he deserves that honor. Afterall Akwa Ibom Airport was named after Akpabio.

No need to waste time with enemies of progress against the airport, 10 years from now they will see what we see now, on why Anambra deserves its own airport

All of u saying trash about the airport being a waste of funds and blabalabla should SHUT UP ALREADY.
That talking stage is over. We've gone past it except you are a flying and blood sucking Winch who hates progress..then u can keep running ur mouth.

Pls when d airport becomes fully operational uu can decide to keep using canoe for ur trips or use the airport which u felt wasn't a waste of funds for ur trips. If u are one of those castigating and pulling down d project may ur feet never near d airport when it becomes operational, may ur limbs break down when u get to d terminal. Nonsense and brainless.

There are way important issues on ground to discuss about...Anambra needs to be where its supposed to be.

I think anambra airport is being built as a small airport so will be easier to maintain. air travel is fast becoming a major means of travel in this country so more airports are needed. our road network is bad and if you say that it is hard to maintain airports, lemme tell you that it is harder to maintain highways. The governor's business is not with enugu, his business is to build an airport to connect the many travellers from anambra. enugu may not be far from anambra, but with the rubbish road network we have, I spent 4 hours trying to get to enugu airport from anambra.also, an airport in a way supports an economy, no one would site a corporate office in a state that has none. lastly, even major airports in the world run on losses, without Heathrow train service, the airport will be running on a loss. so they monopolized travel to the airport. with the rate of insecurity in Nigeria, I will like it if all the states in Nigeria have airports. additionally, Asaba airport is only close to onitsha and not to the rest of anambra.

[s]This is a beautiful article dispensing hard facts. I've told several people in this thread that their airport obsession is driven by their "we sef get our own airport" vanity, and an airport is a white elephant project that will bleed tax-payer resources with no productive returns but they're dreaming that the airport will turn Anambra to Dubai and that somehow, our local businessmen will start using airfreight to transport their goods instead of containers in the sea ports. But applying logic is a waste of time when people can't see past their own vanity-driven pipe dreams. This airport like all other state airports will be handed over to FAAN to manage at massive annual losses. And all this for a state with a very tiny landmass that is already surrounded by airports on all sides. grin Obiano is a clown and his administration is a failure.[/s]
You are the clown and your brain is the failure here.. Why are you crying over an airport almost completed. Where in the article did the yoruba writer analyze why Anambra does not need an airport like he did for ogun and Ekiti..

Instead of ranting here, you know the site to the airport, why not team up with your fellow losers and enemies of progress mktinsight, IDENNAA (from plateau state) and others, mobilize and go and stop work there... Stop disturbing our peace here... Your opinion is uselesss.... The stage we are in now is who to name the airport after and it must be named after Obiano so when you losers finally make use of the airport your conscience will choke you!

Meanwhile I am still looking 4 the things yall said Peter Obi did for Anambra...abi projects of about 4-5 years ago fade away easily like that?

Though isi shampoo with some of his annoying ways has indeed done better than d past administration. His award will be 100% accorded when he completes d ongoing project before his tenure elapses.

At least get into govt and leave a trace of good governance...this Airport, stadium,ICC,International market if completed will be one of Obiano's achievement which cannot be erased in d sand of time.
