Rivers: We’ve begun full implementation of minimum wage

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has given a major reason the immediate past Nigerian security heads failed.

Rivers State Government says it has commenced full implementation of the National Minimum Wage of N30,000 with effect from January this year.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tammy Danagogo, following a Friday meeting with Labour in Port Harcourt also disclosed that a tripartite committee has also agreed to address sundry labour issues pending in the state.

Danagogo stated that “Rivers Government has commenced payment of check-off dues and arrears of salaries of Health workers in the State Public Service who participated in the sympathy strike of 2017 under JOHESU.


“Other issues raised by Labour such include the need for payment of arrears on minimum wage, promotion of civil servants from 2012, payment of gratuity to pensioners, arrears of salaries to some civil servants not paid their February and March 2016 salaries due to aborted 2016 biometric verification exercise etc.

“The tripartite committee is to commence sitting immediately for a period of six weeks after which a report will be submitted to the Government. It resumes sitting next week.”

The meeting was attended by Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Rufus Godwins, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Rivers State, Mrs Beatrice Itubo, Chairman, Trade Union Congress, Jonah Austin, Chairman, Joint Public Negotiating Council, Emecheta Chukwu among other labour leaders.

So the 12k 13k 14k etc they added to our salaries was not even the minimum wage? Na waooh! It's a pity indeed. Let's see how this February salary will be

So they have not signed minimum wage law into effect so where did the increase of 12k 13k 14k etc into our salaries come from? Are you saying rivers state government started to pay minimum wage before the same government signed it into law? What a nonsense country and state.

I don't know what to say but I know karma is a strong force ...if NLC/TUC are taking bribe let them continue....time will tell

It is amazing that I'm not applied for TRCN certificate yet I am being charged 3k for a certificate I don't have. This is amazing indeed.

Teachers have already been paid the minimum wage from my calculation.20% was added to our salary Jan 2020 for level 8 which was the agreement of the federal government ,but the only challenge was the deduction from NLC which has made the salary unpredictable.
The new minimum wage is for health workers.Local government workers and university workers.intact expect another deduction of #3k this month for TRCN.
What we should be praying for is promotion and implementation .

I should expect my Feb and March 2016 arrears too?...it's just so unfair that we all do the same job and some are paid while others are owed...I remember the enthusiasm I started this job with..it just died, I do it now just for my conscience and the children sake...not For Rivers State Government..A woman being married to a man expects her husband to meet certain needs..failure to do that, he will be denied his conjugal rights by the woman..so because Rivers State Government married me into the classroom as a public servant, they cannot Bleep me and use me anyhow they want... I have needs to be met.

I tire! 8 years going no promotion,no increment. Just the way we started the job since 2013. It's so pathetic.
