Former aviation minister, Femi Fani Kayode has reacted to the blocking of food supplies from Northern Nigeria to Southern Nigeria by the Almagamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers in Northern Nigeria, IgbereTV reports.

Taking to his Twitter handle, he wrote;

https://twitter.com/realFFK/status/1365754766727524360?s=20

Members of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria across the Northern part of the country have begun blocking trade routes to the South by stopping food item-laden trucks from going south. They have started diverting their goods and all consumables to the neigbouring countries of Niger Republic and Cameroon, IgbereTV has learned.

Truckloads of food items from the northern part of the country were on Friday stopped by northerners from entering Kwara State and neighbouring states in the South West.

They had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government for N450 Billion compensation to the union for the death of over 250 members and destruction of their properties or face a strike action.

The union alleged that 151 of its members were killed during the Shasha crisis in Oyo State while over 100 members were killed during the ENDSARS protest across the country.

And what stops the south from ending the Union by Lord Luggard?

Once Oduduwa Republic is declared, the Union of north and south of British protectorates ends.

The Fulani can’t fight back for one Nigeria because the Fulani have literally established a new country to be governed with Sharia criminal laws in the 12 states of northern Nigeria.

It won't rot rather shortchange itself in the market value for those products in the neighboring countries cos of difference in currency value.

That said, the inclusion of Benue, Kogi etc into northern alliance it's to oppress them while they enjoy it.

Has it ever rattled u that no matter how the north disagree on issues they never oppse themselves when issues of politics pitch them against the south!

They're only interested in controlling us at their instance.

We in the south needs to be careful and learn how politics of reciprocacy, it's not advantage isn't limited to int'l relations but all politics of this magnitude also.

If we, response in equal actions they understand the signal.

Always bragging about their foodstuffs as if they are giving it to us for free...

By the time their perishables will start rottening then will they appreciate the South.

Benue transporting their foodstuffs to different states, are they not northern state? Same as Taraba and good people of plateau state.

What I read is that north blocked transportation of food to South west after their union had a meeting.

Is South west now the new name for South If we may ask?

They blocked their foodstuff, if you have oil block it from reaching them than shouting south up and down and dragging others enjoying relative peace to a communique that has nothing to do with them...

Stop wasting time Reacting , turn off the valve of the oil than shouting South to other regions who are sleeping against tomorrow's Sunday service because the gate of hell will never prevail against the church.

When it affects SW,they will shout South
But if it were SS and SE,they will shout kill them, kill them...
The truth is that we Northerners can't do without this oil at least for now, same as they need our food resources.I believe we suffer more,if there is a separation...
That's why personally, I always support equity,so that there will be progress... This system where some parts wants to grab it all, favours no one.

It should be celebrated sef. Where are they sending the foodstuffs to? Burkina, Cameroon, Niger etc or where? Those countries combined dont have the financial power of only Lagos coupled with, all africans are farmers, do they want to go and kill their farmers and takeover their farms land as they are doing in Nigeria?

One thing that these ignorant folks don’t understand is that Southern Nigeria is really the market for these farm produce because of high purchasing power.

I laugh when they say they are exporting to Niger, Cameroon, Chad and Senegal. I am into agro commodities and I work with the Chinese, we buy sesame seeds, soya beans and groundnuts from the West African markets, and I can boldly tell you that most of these farm produce are cheaper in all the above listed Countries. So where are they exporting to?

Livestocks are far more cheaper in Cameroon,Chad and Niger than in Northern Nigeria, that is why places like Ilella in Sokoto, Mai Adua in Katsina, Geidam in Yobe, Biu in Borno, all have livestocks at cheaper rates, most of their stocks are from the neighboring countries.

I can guarantee you that this threat of cutting supplies to the South will not last more than two weeks, cheaper alternatives are many. If it persists ,Cameroon and Benin will be the gainers.

Based on what u are saying, Nigerian agriculture products will end up being more expensive in Niger and Cameroon and will be unable to compete in those countries

The northerners said they are blocking food supply to the SW, they didn't say SE or SS but the Yorubas want to entangle the whole South in the messy situation with the northern traders.
If the northerners had said South East we would have 25 topics on FP by now with different headings on the same issue telling us how Igbos lost the civil war and Igbos should leave Lagos as a solidarity song with the North
Typical Yorubas, they are always in between you guys and the North, taking no concrete stand.
All to claim sophistication. We always capitalise on that weakness, to rule over the south.
But the truth remains,Nigeria will never progress with this type of system that upholds quota system over merit. For me I don't care if a northerner doesn't rule this country for the next 200yrs,as far as the system is fair to everyone and there is progress, nomather how slow it is.
Not this my so called brother is ruling, yet we still suffer the more, only the elites enjoy.

For me, I feel this is the best time for each state down South West to discover their potential. I am from Benue and I served in South West (Ekiti State) during my NYSC days. They have good weather and good soil. Make use of it. South West is allowing their soil to waste. Leave Lagos, Ogun, Ibadan (capital of Oyo State) and Akure (Ondo State Capital) States to be the Industrial and commercial hub of the south west. Concentrate on Ekiti, Osun and other parts of Oyo and Ondo for Food, Agriculture and Tourism (FAT). South West are only best at cocoa and cassava at the moment because they fail to understand their soil and their weather to make use of it. They can make use of Green house and control the weather while they grow organic food stuff. Onions, tomatoes, pepper, carrot, and other food stuff can be grown in the south west. The south has the technical know how and manpower. Except also for the fact that their youths are lazy. But those who are not lazy can make the South West an agro hub. Benue and most part of yoruba have the same weather. Ekiti State can compete favorably with Benue State in terms of agriculture together with a few parts of some States such as Nasarawa State and Taraba State. South West wake up!

FFK Always talking nonsense.

The south does not own oil, the federal government owns the oil unlike the food, hardworking Northern farmers are the owner under a cooperative system, the cooperative can decide to transport their produce somewhere else and it wont affect their pocket.

There are lot of buyers of farm produce from northern Cameroon, senegal, mali, niger and chad. The revenue they make from these markets alone is more than the revenue from the southern market in Nigeria

Since you know were to sell your farm products, why telling us, why not go ahead and do that. Despite all you think you have, are not ashamed of the poverty rate in your region. Imagine where states from the north are deporting beggars to their various states in the north, and the numbers is 10s to 100s of thousands.

I wonder how you got to know this...

These countries you mentioned are poor compared to southern Nigeria.

Prices of things in these countries are regulated by the government unlike what is obtained in Southern Nigeria

There is no country within their reach that has the consuming capacity for nay of their Product than just the state of Lagos.

Let them transport to Niger that is less than a state and that Ghana all through the week and see how the price drops to kobo

The federal government owns oil abi,

Ok, we want our farms back on those lands the useless federal government is drilling oil from so that we can be self sufficient of farm produce, so let the useless federal government use bluetooth and drill the oil ( they can contact expat for the technology)

Then get rid of those installations in our waters so we can have our ecosystem back with abundant fishes,

You that posted that the federal government owns the oil, if your lands in your village is claimed without compensation and then polluted ,will you appreciate it? Be human for once and appreciate that the oil belongs to the indigenous people of Niger delta, the Niger delta feeds the nation, like it or hug transformer,

Preach peace bro.
Most farmers in the North use grants and government Agricultural infrastructures like irrigation etc. They use free tractor from their LGA and lots more from federal ministry of agriculture.

Northerner is most times the minster in this ministry.

The press will dissect this soon. By so... they expose themselves.

Nigeria should be one but not by one region cheating the other. Unfortunately citizens are not educated enough to accept facts.

Can we all see injustice of the highest order?

We southerners have the best land for farming, the Lord favors us with right climatic conditions at the right time, we have young and vibrant graduates who are ready to venture into agriculture, our forefathers set pace for us in agriculture and we have the best universities to learn agriculture and agroallied business. ....yet, we find ourselves in this mess of depending on the north for food...what a shame!

North ruined our agriculture by overgrazing our farmlands, by killing our farmers whenever they try to stop them, by rapping or maiming our women who engage in food processing, by making our villages inhabitable, by polluting our waters, etc.

I was curious to enquire and was informed you dare not graze cattle on farmlands in the north when it is time to farm, to the extent that whoever try it would be catapulted to death or be made to pay for damages in multiple folds, here, they cheat us and still kill us, now we have to beg our enemies for food.

However, God will judge everyone who put us in this mess, ati ota ile ati ota ode.

well, if it not well, it is not yet the end.

Keep deceiving yourself..... I hope you studied economics and you understand what is "Country purchasing power"

The purchase power of South West alone is equal to Niger + Chad + Cameroon

It's not about a country, it's about the economy of a country and its citizens ready to buy
