Who told you, you can save $9k out of $10k and sustain on $1k? First, it shows you've never lived anywhere near the west. Second, what's the percentage of those who earn $10k US or across the western world? Third, how many people can conveniently save $1k monthly after all expenses is taken care of? With this in mind, do your due diligence and stop sharing what you have no knowledge of. It's true in some cases you can live a better life in Nigeria as compared to the US or any other western country when comparing all you have to pay for e.g. taxes, parking spaces, unexpected penalties etc. Having said that, security of lives and properties, availability to basic amenities is available to everyone, which cannot be compared to what we see in Nigeria. In all, you need to be highly skilled in a well sought-after roles/ expertise to be able to earn that much and higher. So, consider what you do if it falls into such categories, and if not, think of what to do to get into such circle before concluding. There's no free lunch anywhere in the west. If you want to save $9k monthly in the US or anywhere in the west, then you must be ready to earn $20k monthly. For example, on $120k annual salary job, you only go home with $86k excluding pension contributions and other miscellaneous, meaning, the system alone has taken over $34k out of your earnings for the year. Also, this depends on the state/borough/county/District that you live in. Now, put into consideration your rent, utilities (gas, electricity, council/ District tax, phone bills), groceries, food etc. Well, with this little explanation, you can go back to your day-dreaming seat and ponder over it all. This should give you a glimpse of what people go through, and should in case someone has been lying to you in the past; I guess this should set you straight. My 2 cents advise. |

If you have money Nigeria is 100 times better than America. I traveled to the US the first time in 1996 so don't quote me if you have never been to MMIA |

No sensible person is sending $9k to any Naira account. Unless it is a Dom account. If you converted $100k 10 years ago, you would have N16 million. If you try to reconvert that money today, you'd only have $40k. bloggerblogger2: |

bloggerblogger2:EVERYTHING YOU WROTE HERE IS ABSOLUTE RUBBISH - It screams to my ears. "I have not been to the USA but all my idea about the USA was gotten from a drunk friend whose brother is a former friend of the brother of an American returnee" You think to earn 10k USD a month na beans? How much does a Medical doctor take home after taxes and charges in a place like Texas (where you have about 40% of all Nigerians living in the USA?) It may be $8700 - so you will just come - no US education - no US qualification or work history - you will be sleeping in the street and making 10k a month? Guy, if you do not have a verifiable address where you live and a work history with valid references - and a social security number which is valid for employment (some are not valid for emplyment) and a state issued ID and clean criminal records, you wont be able to even get a job that pays you $2,000 in places like Texas or $2,700 a month in places like New York And you do not seem to understand how capitalism works - America as a country is the originator of the capitalist system - The country lives, breaths and grow with capitalism- as long as you wake up and step out of your house, you must spend money. Do not ask me how or why? Who no go no know. You think you can have money in your pocket and be begging vulnerable family members and friends money as you do in Nigeria ? here no one gives you shi shi - not even your father or mother. You know nothing about America- The more you earn, the more your expenses increase. The job that pays you 5,000 a month self most of them are not on Bus route, if you do not have a car, you can not get there, With a car comes monthly car notes, insurance, gas to fuel it, maintenance, you buy lunch to eat for break time as most times you can not cook due to the time factor - you can not be late for work here or you get fired - some jobs have 5 minutes window of grace to be late and you can not be using that extra 5 minutes everyday or you get fired too for that - guy let me shower and rush to work - I wish I have all the time to reply this post, send 9k home indeed and use 1k - you smoke oshogbo weed, catch up with you later |

lexy2014:I'm defending the fundamental gist of what he said which is true. Even if you want to hold it literally, it is still somewhat true. People who earn N100K monthly in Nigeria can probably afford to live in a decent 3room apartment at 30k monthly, and have enough left over to run a car, and eat a balanced diet. No one can try that kind of opulence in the US with the same amount. $200 (which is equivalent to N100K) cannot even rent a single room apartment in most parts of the US for a single week, let alone buy groceries, pay utility bills and run a car. |

RisenPhoenix1:This is d fundamental gist of what he said: "The luxury lifestyles some of us live here with 100K, cannot sustain us a day over there. We can’t try such in US and save a dim." What is there to be taken literally or not taken literally. He told a lie, pure& simple. Can u live a luxury life in Nigeria on 100k? Yes or no |

lexy2014:You're only being needlessly rigid. Since you like playing with semantics, the onus is on you to define luxury lifestyle. Then I will give you the yes or no that you demand. It should show you how meaningless your argument over the subjective term is. |

RisenPhoenix1:U are already getting emotional. Here are your words: "Not exactly luxury; that was an exaggeration" So what definition did u use to arrive at ur conclusion above? If that be d case, how come u are now saying we should ignore d use of luxury in d comment made by d OP? "The luxury lifestyles some of us live here with 100K, cannot sustain us a day over there. We can’t try such in US and save a dim." So my question still stands. Can u live a luxury lifestyle in Nigeria on a 100k a month income? |

i don't get what you are talking about, no united states graduate earn less than a $1000 a month but a Nigerian graduate can earn 100k. so where is your 400k coming from. abi you be illegal migrant working at the mercy of your employer and they pay you $6 an hour or less. The lowest paying graduate course is between $30,000 to $33,000 per annum. i dont know where you are getting your information. |
