In a year I might eat out not up to 3times.. ablnd even after eating out each time I start calculating the quantity and quality of food I would have mad at home with the amount of money used in eating out and I will start paining me grin grin
A plate of rice with chicken will make me plenty rice at home with plenty chicken and fruits go still come out from the money o. With all your ingredients and food stuff at home, making food at home is fun and saves alot of money. It also helps you eat healthy.

What you hate is your business, Sir. The name of the restaurant is Lagosia @ Ademola Adetokunbo in VI, Lagos. Kindly go buy it N500 and come back with your truth.

And forgive me if this comes of rude, what is special about a plate of AFANG SOUP @N4500? I am very sure Calabar Kitchen @Adebayo Doherty charges about 4k for a plate. I will pay more for AFANG SOUP, guaranteed it is tasty and I am given big meat. lipsrsealed

It's cheaper for single individuals who don't eat heavily.

For people who eat lightly once or twice daily, buying out might be cheaper... but only in comparison to local bukaterias.

If they want to eat from places like Mega Chicken, The Place or Radisson Blu, then of course cooking is way more affordable.
Who the hell wanna eat everyday in Raddison blu? or Mega Chicken. Those should be on occasions.

I'll gladly pay 132 naira for the labor of cooking

That's not the real cost but incase you want to find out, if or when you get a family, be buying them food everyday from the restaurant.

Eating out will always be more expensive than cooking at home lol

If the cost of grocery increases for people that cook at home, is it not the same grocery that your bukka or restaurant are using to cook.

If your bukka don't reduce the amount of stew they pour ontop your rice, the quality of the stew go reduce.
If they don't increase the price of your turkey/meat they sell for you, the size go reduce.

Either way, you go still feel am

Focus on cost alone. Thanks.
It is costlier to cook home food. By the time you consider the cost of gas or kerosene, transport fare or (litres of fuel if you use car) and among others, you would see that it is expensive.

Did you consider the cost for purchasing semo, wheat, yam, spaghetti if you only cook stew and egusi soup with just N8,000?

One bag of 25kg rice costs #12000 and it lasts me 6 months as a single person. I cook rice twice weekly.

To cook tomato stew costs me #2000

#2000 gas refill lasts me 2 months.

CALCULATE
#12,000÷48 times = #250 per cooking which is about 5 plates. 1 plate = #50.

#2500 ÷ 8 plates of stew = #312 a plate. NB Meat alone is #1500.

#2000 ÷ 60days of usage = #33 per cooking. 1 plate should be about #6.

So 50+312+6= #368 a plate for my own cooking.

Average cost of a plate of rice outside = #500.
So OP home cooking is still cheaper and more satisfying no matter what.

Modified: My plate na big plate o. E fit be two plates outside. So be the judge.

You didn't cost your transport fare or the cost of litres of fuel if you use car

Hmm

I cooked soup three days ago with 1,500 naira and decided to go buy fufu to eat with and what I got shook me. Maybe it's now better to eat out because I don't believe a restaurant can be that heartless to sell that quantity of food to you.

Attacked pic is the fufu I bought for 50 naira in Abuja
I swear....grin eating fufu/Eba outside this days is just like drinking coffee and expecting to get maximum satisfaction....

Cooking at home is very cheap, if you decide to eat outside, you will buy food morning, afternoon and night, that is spending close to 1k to buy food for a day, you will use same money to Cook a decent food that will last for more than a day.

Sorry for the explicit breakdown, I am an Economist. cheesy
Y would a mature person eat three times in a day.

When I was staying with 2 friends, cooking at home was way cheaper. But when I started staying alone, after some calculation, I noticed it was at best the same cost cooking at home, never cheaper.

The only way it might be cheaper to cook is when u have a refrigerator and u prepare stew in bulk during weekends and only boil rice and make morsels everyday. That way, the cost and stress is reduced.

It is not about status biko. I don’t do it everyday. Like twice in a month, only when I crave afang soup and I am lazy to cook it.

Nigerians always believe home cooked food is cheaper than eating in a restaurant. But is it true?
I understand it may be so for a large family, but for a single person is it really cheaper?

If we stick to strictly cost and not variable factors like washing pant water grin cheesy or unhygienic environment.

Not cheaper, just healthier.

I spend about 40,000 per month on feeding, while someone can use 30,000 if he buys out.

Monthly expenses
1. Semo 4,000
2. Rice 3000
3. Beans 1000
4. Cooking soup and stew 8,000
5. Fish 6000
7. Meat 12,000
8. breavage 6000

Total: 40,000
