Former President Goodluck Jonathan has thrown his weight behind the Governor Seriake Dickson-led Peoples Democratic Party Peace and Reconciliation Committee. The former president insisted on Saturday that a political solution remained the best option to resolve the ongoing crisis in the PDP. Jonathan, who received the governor and members of his committee in his home in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, urged the contending parties to embrace negotiations as a way out of the crisis. He commended the governor for going round the country to meet with key stakeholders and leaders of the party in order to ensure that peace reigns in the PDP. He also expressed reservations over the use of courts to settle political matters, stressing that a political solution would ensure a win-win outcome for the warring groups. Jonathan said, “I believe a political solution remains the best means of resolving the crisis in the party and that’s why the Dickson committee must be commended. No two parties go to court and come out smiling, especially for a political party like the PDP that’s in the opposition.” The former president insisted that courts should ordinarily have no business in deciding who should be the chairman of a political party. Governor Dickson, in his remarks, said Bayelsa State had benefited substantially from the PDP, noting that the party remained the only one that had given the position of president to Bayelsa, a minority. In his remarks, a former Minister of the FCT, Prof. Jerry Gana, paid glowing tributes to the leadership quality of Dickson as a peacemaker and commended his efforts at pushing the peace process. “He has pushed the process so relentlessly to the extent that the success of finding a lasting resolution to the crisis has become evident,” Gana said.

It is almost two year since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office as Nigeria’s number one citizen and many in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are worried that the president is yet to fully draft the party members into his government.President Buhari seem more concerned with fighting corruption, addressing Nigeria’s economic problems and delivering his campaign promises than getting heavily involved in politicking. The president’s body language has left many in the APC wondering if the president will ever compensate many of the party’s chieftains who were his foot soldiers during the electioneering period. Naijasimple.com lists 5 chieftains of the ruling party who deserve to be compensated with federal appointments for their sacrifice to the APC by President Buhari. Read below: 1. Olurinimbe Mamora: He was the deputy director of operations of the APC presidential campaign council before the 2015 general elections. Mamora, 63, was visible throughout the campaign period, transversing the nook and crannies of the nation with President Buhari and Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo. A former deputy minority leader in the Senate, Mamora is one politician Buhari will benefit from as he has experience in politics, which include chairman ofthe conference of Nigerian state house of assembly speakers between the year 200-2003,two-time senator, member of ECOWAS parliament, Senate committee member of upstream petroleum resources, health , federal character and inter-government affairs. 2. Sam Nda-Isaiah: An accomplished business man, many were surprised when the Niger-born entrepreneur threw his hat into the ring to contest for the presidential primary elections in the APC. This is because he was known as an avid loyalist of President Buhari. In 2002, he and a few others of like minds formed The Buhari Organisation (TBO) to promote Buhari’s aspiration to the presidency and he was appointed deputy director-general. He fondly refers to Buhari as his role-model and political leader. The TBO was an organization within the ANPP (All Nigeria Peoples Party) then. He was also a foundation member of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) before the fusion into APC. He turned 54-year old two days ago. 3. Osita Okechukwu: He is the APC south-east geopolitical zone spokesperson and he has done his job with an unmatched zeal and commitment. A staunch loyalist of the president, Okechukwu is one of those that has been in the opposition for long and played his role well in a region that was largely controlled by the then ruling party. He was always in the news constructively engaging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and shoring up the image of the APC in the South east. He is also reputed to be a thorough grass roots politician and his experience in politics comes handy. He represented the CPC in the merger committee that led to the formation of the APC. 4. Umana Okon Umana: He fought a good fight in Akwa Ibom state and succeeded to lay a strong foundation for the APC in the South south state. Umana, 56, has the privilege to have served Akwa Ibom people from the local level to the state. Among the post he has held, Umana was administrative secretary of Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Ikono local government area in 1990; supervisory electoral officer for Etinan local government area during the 1996 local government zero-party elections; Akwa Ibom state commissioner of finance, during the second term of Governor Victor Attah between the year 2003-2007 and has secretary to Akwa Ibom state government under Governor Godswill Akpabio. 5. Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo-Waziri: He is the national youth leader of the APC. He comes from a notable political family and he is already following in the footsteps of his late father. The 45-year old was appointed a special adviser to the then governor of Gombe state, Danjuma Goje in 2003. In 2004, he won the chairmanship of Gombe local government. In 2008, he was elected national president of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), a body encompassing all chairmen of the 774 Local Government Areas across Nigeria. To his credit, Jalo-Waziri has been able to revive the APC youth structure by creating an effective working relationship between youth leaders and the party hierarchy. He has also been helping the party by mobilizing young Nigerians for the party. Jalo- Waziri was also a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the president’s election.
