Okay...well i didnt get that part of the gist before. It all makes sense now. Well done boss funkyjo: @potusuk I studied Chemical Engineering however, I work as a Project Control Engineer. Hence, i could not claim 5 points for work experience as a Chemical Engineer. Well, your believe is wrong. |
Travel › Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by POTUSUK: 2:10pm On Nov 24, 2016 |
Why did you think you wouldnt have made the 5 points as a Chemical Engineer. I mean, EA has already given you the go ahead to select Eng Tec or Chemical Engineering.... plus i believe your CDR was written based on your Chemical Engineering experience and not Eng Tech. Im i the only one reasoning along that line? funkyjo: @Mamajaz Amen n Amen. All the best in yours. Receive the anointing @Mctowel01 I already had 10 points for English, this brought me to 55 points. I opted for Engr Tech thinking that i would get 5 points so as to reach the minimum required. Surely, if I had foreseen, I would have gone for Chemical Engineer instead. I was "running" away from writing another English test as I wasn't sure I would get 20 points. So it was safer to go with Eng Tech.
@Bnimz Your analysis is right. It was inclusive of the 10 points |

yea, seen your response...thanks man. That got sorted. Some guy claimed its not so I had to put the question out there. Just needed to be sure but your response has erased all doubts. Ifexsco: Replied already. BTW, the information above is wrong. One of my CDR was on my lecturing experience. Who says it's not Engineering? ?? Don't you do research and publish papers? Don't you prepare procedures for experiments? |

Ok..muchas gracias...@ catchwind4rmkd...this has boosted my morale. I'd give it a try. catchdwind4rmkd: Correction
The lady actually had band 7 English, making her have 55 points and totaling 60 points with the 5 points from Partner Skill.
The confusion came from the fact that her husband who had band 6 was to be the principal applicant. He had hoped to receive Experience skills but EA MSA deducted most of his years. Hence, the choice of making the wife the principal applicant.
Age: 30 points English: Band 7: 10 point Experience: 0 point Qualification: 15 points Partner's point: 5 point
Total:. 60 points

Ok...@ Ideamaster..thanks man. Will look at that immitracker and see how my chances can pan out. So what you gonna do about your issue?...would you just write english again to see how you can make a 20. Or the application cant be updated nomore after you fill the ITA?. If there is a chance, biko give it a shot. Feb till now is a pretty long time...im sure you'd agree. ideamaster: You can look on immitracker website to have a rough idea on when you can get Nsw nomination with 55 points.
But from my little research and discussion with friends, Nsw nominates engineers without any condition like work experience or employment contract. However, for the same reason, there is a long queue of those waiting for nomination. Personally, I submitted my EOI (Mining Engineering) with 55 on 01~ Feb~ 2016 and till date, no nomination.
The bottom line is, to get Nsw nomination, you need at least 60 points excluding the state sponsorship point. That's probably what happened with the Chemical engineer guy someone mentioned. He probably had 55 points plus 5 points from partner skills. that's why he got invited faster. |

@ Ifexsco, I reckon you are a lecturer, pls how did you go about assessing your EA. I heard they don't regard lecturing as part of engineering skills. how true is that?. did you claim working experience from your lecturing experience?. Ifexsco: Thank God for safe journey! I and my family are entering next month by God's grace. How much did IOM charge you? How that area? How did you go about initial accommodation? I pray for favor to meet you! |

Thanks bro. But I have got 60 points (Assumming EA assesses my work experience as positive). Im only considering that route because of my peculiarities as regards PE. Better still can rewrite english to aim 20 points...when and if the need arises. catchdwind4rmkd: We've been advised here severally to share valid information. So, I guess I've more info on WA than NSW.
However, in my opinion, NSW is not so interested in Engineers as with IT professionals, Accountants, Civil draftsmen, etc. So, getting ITA on 55 points may be a long wait. And with the current uncertainty of the SOL, it may be risky having to wait that long. I'm sure though that if you have 65 - 70 points, you'll get NSW ITA within the next couple of rounds. I'm not sure, though, that anyone with such high points will prefer 190 to 189, unless in your case where your occupation isn't on the SOL.
Finally, if you meet all the DIBP requirements but have 55 points, you're better off registering your EOI and starting the wait early enough. NSW requirements are quite simple. |

Thanks for that explicit answer. You are far too kind. But I'd like to know why you didnt stress on NSW like you did on WA. Guys...do we know anyone that has applied to be nominated for Petroleum Engineering NSW recently and has gotten an ITA?. I need to weigh in the statistics. Cos as it is WA is a no go area. catchdwind4rmkd: Your First Choice for State Nomination as a Petroleum Engineer is Western Australia.
However, due to recent political and economic issues in the region, the selection process / nomination criteria has been made tougher.
For a start, you need ALL of the following:
1. Proficient English - Minimum Band 7 no matter your total points
2. Minimum 3 years overseas or 1 year Australian Experience in Petroleum Engineering or related occupation
3. Have a contract of Full Time Employment for at least 12 months in Western Australia in the nominated (or closely related) occupation.
N/B: The above are in addition to all the DIBP requirements for the subclass which you must meet.
New South Wales (NSW) also nominates the occupation. You may want to have a look.
IMPORTANT NOTES
1. Western Australia has been attacked recently (2 months ago) by the Department of Employment and Labour for bringing in Skilled Migrants surplus to requirement, thereby forcing most skilled migrants to undertake unskilled jobs. They're blamed for not following up or setting up a welcome and settlement plans for these migrants to easily gain employment in their skilled areas. In defense, the WA government pushed the blame to DIBP claiming that WA only nominates a small number of Skilled Migrants compared to the total who receive visa grants, most of which are 189 (I suspect this might be a reason for removing these occupations from the SOL).
2. Like other countries (UK and US being the most popular), Australians are now complaining about the negative impact of migrants to their society. Early this week, on news, members of the Australian labour society stressed on this. Many Australians also spoke on the subject. Their claims are that migrants have taken over jobs that are meant for Australians, thus leaving Australians unemployed. They supported their claims with a data which shows that while the unemployment rate in a given state was recorded as 4.5% and unchanged for 2yrs, the actual number of unemployed Australians increased from 4% to 7%. They are calling on the government to act fast
3. RUMOUR: Some students here say they're told the required points may change from 60 to 65. Currently, students in Australia need just band 7 English. But due to this rumour, most of them are now registering for an English test to improve their scores.
While these may be just headlines, they may turn out to be critical in deciding the direction of the Australian Skilled Migration in years to come. Hence, it is wise to do the needful if you really want to land Downunder or go blue... |

bellong: ^^^^ Check the state nominating the occupation. You can only know your chances when you apply and meet the requirements. Thanks Bellong. I meet the requirements. Why I ask is since it is no longer on the SOL list but CSOL, Was wondering if states are skeptical nowadays nominating someone with a Petroleum Engineering background. And with your vast knowledge on the subject matter and wide sphere of influence, I thot it wise to seek your opinion. |

linaluv: also i havent written IELTS. BUT want to apply to a university CDU. will the australian embassy see it as a red flag because i didnt tender IELTS to the school but tender it to them for VISA processing.
please how much is VISA FEE?
how long is IELTS valid for? It would do you well if you take out time to do some reading in here. All your questions have been answered in details in previous pages. Nevertheless, visa fees is 550AUD. MEdicals at IOM is 33k NGN, Biometrics at teleperformance is 7,100NGN. IELTS is valid for 2 years. If CDU doesn't require English requirement from you, you shouldn't have that problem with your visa application. |

FutureDon, yea, exactly my thoughts. A PhD is like a 9-5 job, I've heard. I Sent you a PM bro. Thanks for all your help. FutureDon: Really bro? It's PhD for God's sake.
PhD is a full time job on it's own and that's why some assessing bodies take years of PhD study as years of work experience. Believe me, the unlimited work hours for PhD students is practically useless. They know we will never have that luxury of time to maximize those hours. Almost all, if not all international PhD students in Australia are genuinely here to study. PhD is not something you can have "one leg in, one leg out", you need to have "both legs in" it. Going with the former may lead such student to being kicked out of their program or asked to transfer to MPhil.
Life as a PhD student is hard, not only in Australia but in all advanced countries where kick a s s research is valued. POTUSUK, let me know if you have specific questions that you would like me to answer. Feeling kinda lazy now. |
