Baba Otudeko is now 81! Those aiming to take over his bank, which he has controlled for years, are themselves in their early 60s. When @femiotedola attempted to reclaim Transcorp, @tonyoelumelu responded with several quick, strategic moves:

- He held a Zoom AGM, ensuring everyone retained their positions.
- He charmed @femiotedola with a TV interview, claiming he only follows his wife and Otedola on Instagram.
- He privately offered to buy Otedola’s shares at a higher valuation.

In the case of First Bank, @femiotedola faces two even older players. In Nigeria, age carries significant weight, and I can imagine how 81-year-old Baba Otudeko must have felt seeing his “aburo”—someone whose history he knows well—making such moves.

Here’s my question: If you were Otudeko,
1. Would you have let go of your shares to protect your name and reputation?
2. Or would you have held on and fought as he did? Is it worth it in the end?

If @femiotedola shares these stories and more in his book, would you still say you don’t want to read it? As younger entrepreneurs, we must learn from those ahead of us—whether we agree with them or not. Read, learn, and grow.

Remember: in Africa, when someone is dragged left and right, the more you look, the less you see. As soon as Otudeko sold his shares, suddenly he wasn’t accused of stealing ₦12 billion anymore. When they come for you in Nigeria, you’d better be too heavy to carry. Naija, I hail!

— Dr. Stephen Akintayo
What fight was the Dr Akintayo expecting Otudeko to fight ?

What reputation is left of Otudeko to protect if one should ask Akintayo?

It is clear that the Akintayo is as ignorant as the Keke Marwa driver shuttling between Ikeja under bridge and Allen Avenue junction concerning the FBNH bruhaha.

This writer is sick. Where in the world do extended families kick out grown-up offspring or children of a dead man and take away their inheritance because their mother is divorced?
Let us not pretend . They do it amongst the tribe where they give the widow water used for washing the corpse to drink .

They do it amongst the tribe where a man's daughter arrived from the US but the family of the sick man did not allow the daughter to see her father because they are feeding fat off him .

The guy is saying the facts , just wait and see for some year, dangote will drive all his competitor out of market and later monopolize the system. It happened in the cement industry, even few years ago Bua brought cement price to #3500 from #5000 dangote refuse to bulge, couple with the greed of the distributors Bua was forced to raise price back when distributors refused to pass the gain to end users which is the consumers
Get the elementary meaning of monopoly before advertising your ignorance.
Is he the only producer of cement?
Are there no other major producers of cement?
Will you give Damgote' cement as an example of a monopolist to an SS2 students asking such as an economics question?

One of the basic characteristics of a monopolistic market is price control. With all this strategic moves, PMS will definitely sell at 3k per liter in no distant time. Wait for it!
The way your ilk are still expecting the dollar to exchange for #2000?

One would have expected someone with half a brain to know there will not be monopoly when other refineries come on board. At least there are ones that are under construction.

Education › Re: UNICAL VC, Florence Obi Calls Out Dean And Provost Over Admission Scandal by ppogba: 5:25pm On Jul 17, 2025
Ordinarily, one would have expected the Minister for Education to have waded in with the intent to know the following:

1. How much did each student pay to secure the admission knowing fully well that money would have been the reason for this abnormality ?

2. What are the roles of the Admission officer and the Dean?

3. How culpable is the VC herself because all these Channels interview are just meant to wash herself clean.

Go deep down now and you will see the same people lamenting about corruption in the country.

This should have been a good news for minority shareholders in First Bank. But I don't like Ote$.

I doubt if that man has the integrity to propel First Bank shares price to compete with the likes of GTCo, Zenith, UBA and others that are doing very well in the NGX currently.

Our memories of how he handled AP and the rackeetering they did with the shares back then is still fresh.

Maybe he is better person now, we hope so. Congratulations to him though
Otedola' s integrity is NOT WHAT will propel FBN to where the other FUGAZ members are.
It takes a cleaner book that is devoid of poor NPLs.
It takes the type of spread especially outside Nigeria.
It takes efficient use of the resources to generate commensurate revenue and hence profit.

Newbies take note

Stock price movement up or down is determined by many factors, not only fundamentals.

Factors that can bring about stock price movement apart from fundamentals:

Rumor/news - bad or good
Mere market sentiments
Government policy- new or old
The general economic situation of the country
Speculations
Result expectations - good or bad
Manipulations - sometimes by MM or HNI
Free float size of the shares of a company/shareholding structure
External influence/world economic
Economic situation and policies of advanced economies
etc

So when you see price movement, try and do your due diligence, which includes finding out which of the
factor(s) is causing the movement so that you can make an informed investment decision.

Don't forget, stock investment is a marathon, not a sprint.

Enjoy the Bullish run while it lasts.
Very apt!
That is why it is not a field for the indolent, shallow and barely educated fellows. An average Nigerian youth without any apology from me belong in that category. And that is why when you have a thread on the front page of Nairaland concerning the NSE or shares in general, the comments are heart wrenching.

RIP to Sai baba. He is right after all.

Wasn't a mistake. That's the condescending way he speaks to people.

Before his first tenure, during the election campaign period, when the first rumours of Russia trying to influence the US election to his favor began to fly, he once said during a campaign "Russia if you're listening"....................
Similar to when he reacted to the rising price of crude oil recently by saying " be careful everyone, I am watching".
