As a graduate from UI, I sometime ask myself, if UI despite its defects, is still considered top-notch, it raises questions about the standards in other universities and the quality of their graduates.
The rankings have nothing to do with the physical structures or the ambiance.
Very little to do about the faculty but much more to do about the presence and activities of the academic staff in international journals etc. UI has an advantage in this regard bacause it is not unlikely that their profs have much access to funding as consultants here and there and thus have much to showcase. Besides, UI probably has more profs and docs than other unis . It is a game of numbers.

I try not to type my full AirPeace Gatwick-Nigeria experience online because of this Yoruba-Igbo drama. I am happy they are not in Heathrow, because I can never travel to Gatwick to fly AirPeace. Yes it is cheaper than the alternate...as much as $300 cheaper, but the wahala and lack of services at Gatwick made it look like a truly cheap airline.

My advice...work on baggage handling services, put customer service numbers at Gatwick or have a 24hr station and have services for your elderly passengers. Stop using old planes and make sure entertainment services work on an international flight.
I wouldnt know at what point the drama turned into an Igbo- Yoruba affair because the last time I checked, Senator Oshiomole is far from being Yoruba. But of course, when the people of Nairaland start saying people from a particular section of the country, one should know they already have a direction for the argument to take.

LawWithEbele:
Imagine if Chief Iwuanyanwu died without a will...

The whole country is talking about the conditions in Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s will. But imagine this:

What if he never made a will at all?

Let’s face it, many Nigerians fear writing a will. Some believe it’s a bad omen.
Others keep postponing it for “when the time is right.” But death doesn’t send a memo.

That’s why many people die intestate, without a will. And when that happens, you no longer have a say.The law, and sometimes family chaos, takes over.

So, what would have happened if Chief Iwuanyanwu died intestate?

It depends on the kind of marriage he had:

If he contracted a customary marriage, then his estate would be distributed according to custom, and we all know customs can vary and cause serious family drama.

If he contracted a statutory marriage then the Administration of Estates of the deceased Law of the state applies.

And here’s what that law says in most states:

The wife gets 1/3 of the estate
The children share 2/3
No room for personal wishes
No gifts to charity, friends, staff, or causes you loved. No specific property direction, like “give this house to my daughter” or “support this foundation”

But with a will? You become the boss, even in death. You decide who gets what. You protect vulnerable loved ones.
You avoid family conflict. You leave a legacy, not confusion.

But here’s a legal twist most people don’t know: do you really have unlimited freedom to give your property to anyone you like in your will? Can you completely disinherit a spouse or child or a dependent?

Watch out for my next post, I’ll be unpacking the legal limits to testamentary freedom in Nigeria. You don’t want to miss it.

So let me ask: is it worth it for a married person to make a will?Drop your answer in the comments. Let's talk.

I’m Ebelechukwu Aroh-Nwoka, your family and property lawyer.I help Nigerians plan wisely, avoid inheritance drama, and protect what truly matters- your family and property.
Ebele, you are with all due respect asking a stupid question because you know without a will , the following will be the lot of the wife:

1. She will have to drink the water used in washing the corpse of her husband.

2. She will be chased out of her matrimonial home by insurgents in the name of brothers and sisters in law.

3. Her child may eventually suffer because the stupid people will leave her with next to nothing.

4. She will be labelled an Osu.

Don't ask again and if you have forgotten, ask your elders.

What does bra have to do with anything?

Those of us that attended universities abroad did not become sexual deviants because some ladies were braless.

I don't know how this bothers anyone.

To make matters worse, there's no Nigerian version of bra from time back.

So, all the women of those times were deviants?
Are you trying to compare the level of both individual and institutional. restraint abroad with what you have here ?

I am surprised you are not afraid of a society where children as young as age six and seven are being raped on a daily basis. What will you expect to happen where students even when fully claded are at risk of being raped are now walking about braless?

Is being braless the new definition of a woke society?

One thing I know for sure is that the total number of braless students you will see during a school session abroad will not be up to the number that will attend a GNS course in an average university lecture session here in Nigeria .

The fact that they are doing over there and comfortable with it should not and does not mean we should follow that line .

I have gone past the years of Uni. classes but would never have wished to be in a class where half the female students are braless . The distraction of what an average Nigerian male student will eat after lecture should be enough . The female students should not add the distraction of ALL MANNERS OF BREASTS in varying degrees of what I don't want to mention to it.

malali:
"Never underestimate a people whose myths are soaked in fire, whose poets chant of vengeance, and whose children are raised on stories of empire."

There is a dangerous illusion being peddled in media and military circles: that Iran-home of the Persians-is some soft target, an easy strike for Israel's military machine. This belief is not only historically illiterate, it's geopolitically reckless.

Iran is not just a country. It is a civilization. A 2,500-year-old empire that has fought, fractured, and reassembled through the jaws of history's bloodiest crucibles.

The Islamic Republic may present as a theocracy-but it functions like a fortress-mentality empire. Its generals study not just Islam, but Tacticus, Khomeini, and Genghis Khan alike. They believe in asymmetry, spiritual warfare, martyrdom, and the long game.

Not a Desert Militia - A Shadow Arsenal

Iran is not Iraq in 2003. It is not Syria in 2012. It is a regional power with:
• Ballistic missiles (2,000+ km range)
• Precision drone warfare (witness Yemen, Gaza, Syria)
• Cyber capabilities rivaling mid-tier global powers
• Undercover paramilitary units across five countries (Hezbollah, PMF, Houthis, etc.)

This is a chessboard, not checkers.

Israel's Iron, Persia's Fire

Yes, Israel is a formidable opponent-nuclear-armed, tech-savvy, intelligence-rich. But here's what Tel Aviv knows (even if Twitter doesn't):

Every Israeli airstrike risks awakening not just Tehran, but an entire Shiite axis primed for existential warfare.

Remember, Iran's concept of war is not victory by territory, but legacy by defiance. They do not fear death-they often script it into their strategic doctrine.

You don't defeat a people who name their missiles after martyrs, or who believe resistance is sacred theology.

Gallantry Beyond Missiles

Persian gallantry isn't just about weapons-it's woven into their art, their language, their resolve. Even today, in the face of sanctions, cyberattacks, and assassinations of nuclear scientists, they stand unbroken.
• In Karbala, they remember Husayn's refusal to kneel.
• In Khaybar, they chant of Ali's return.
• In Gaza, they invest-not just in arms, but in ideology.

This isn't a country trying to win battles. It's a civilization trying to outlast empires.
If you did not copy this from elsewhere then, KUDOS to you.

🚨🇮🇱🇮🇷 OVERNIGHT STRIKES INJURE 94 IN ISRAEL, DAMAGE MOUNTS UNDER MEDIA BLACKOUT

Iran launched multiple missile volleys overnight, targeting central and northern Israel.

94 people were treated for injuries, and fires broke out from impacts and interceptor debris, according to Israel’s Health Ministry.

Military censorship is limiting reporting, but cities confirm rising structural damage - including 30 buildings that are unrepairable in Bat Yam alone.
