You bought shares in what accounts to "economic minutes" ago & you are excited?
Wow. Congratulations. It is only a kid that could have said " investing is shares and stocks is a waste of time and money". But since you are claiming not to be one, sorry for my assumption. Maybe you are just an ignorant adult who refused to educate himself and has agreed to hold on perpetually to the ignorant end of the stick. You are right. I am a kid. What an assumption! Just that I am a kid old enough to have bought shares during public offer of 2002, 2003 for himself and his children. |

You will do better to buy USD /GBP Foat & Hold. Are you suggesting, assuming, projecting or confirming this assumption? Educate yourself please. For a quick check, ask anyone who bought at least 10,000 units of GT shares during the public offer at N10.90 before replying Mr. |

1x2x3: Let's assume in 2009, someone purchased 2,000,000 shares at the rate of N2. This will be a total of N4M invested.
In 2024 which is 15 years later, the shares is currently at N11. 2,000,000 share = N22M + those petty dividends they paid.
Looks like a good investment.
Let's look at what who held dollar would have made just by putting N4M into dollars in 2009 when dollar was $150.
4,000,00 ÷ 150 = $26,666
In 2024, $1 = 1650
$26,666 x 1650 = N43, 998,900 (that's roughly twice the amount from shares in that company)
What about who gambled on BTC?
In 2009 bitcoin was $0.10
Just $1,000 would have given you 10,000BTC
In 2024, 10,000BTC = $672,344,400.
Only if we can see the future No reasonable investor will tie down a whole N4m down since 1999 or whatever year you are quoting till date . Investments don't work that way. Only analysis does. If only you know what N1M is then. |

rowrowland: You guys are lucky as the share value already dropped as at that time - your dad bought cheap. I bought mine before then and it turned out to be the ultimate Scam - the moment Baba Iyabo moved his money, it crumbled. Transcorp then was promising because of Obasanjo - it would've performed if he got third term. Stock pros in-house, correct me if I'm wrong oo. I think I bought for 20naira per share back then. There was never a time Obasanjo put his money in Transcorp and withdrew same . This is just an unfounded rumour. Transcorp only seized the opportunity of the shares public offering of that time even without the solid fundamentals to support the public offer price the shares sold for. Besides, it was the cowboys at the time that packaged it for the public to chew |
Investment › Re: My Father's Dividend After 11years Of Investing In Transcorp Shares by ppogba: 10:28am On Oct 16, 2024 |
thesicilian: He didn't buy much shares to begin with, considering the price then in 2013 was just N1.65 per share (from a quick Google search) resulting in a total of N1732.5 for his 1050 shares. That seemed like a trial purchase rather than a solid investment for the future. If he had put that money into crypto then I'm sure the return on investment would be in millions by now. The man did not buy at N1.65. If the son could be talking about share certificate, it shows the man bought through the public offer. The public offer price was N7.00 if I am not mistaken. You talked about crypo, I doubt if crypo was existing then. You are very correct about the purchase being a trial and error thing rather than an investment for the future. You don't put token in shares or any investment for that matter and expect it to end your misery. |

panpan: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should be dissolved. The laws enabling EFCC should be repealed. In practice, EFCC is of no benefit to the general Nigerian population. EFCC was created just to please the west in general, and the United States in particular. In other words, EFCC is just a harassment tool against young men who appear to be doing well financially. Is convicting Tafa Balogun and a host of other former governors part of the plan to please the west and US? |

Anyway... I have to commend the legal team of Yahaya Bello and the Kogi state government. They have truly proven their worth in salt as regards the battle with EFCC. This is the kind of legal team I would like to have if I venture into politics. You have the right to commend Yahaya Bello' s team. But have you given a thought to the wickedness in someone paying close to a million dollars in school fees upfront while some of the people he governed wallowed in poverty? At least, no one can claim that was a propaganda because the school made a repayment. |

seanfer: Watching how the Libya players were wasting time from the start of the first leg in Nigeria shows that they are not ready to show the spirit of sportsmanship. Eyimba FC in 2021 and Rivers United in 2022 were treated same way in Libya.... Rivers United had to rent a small field to train and the government disconnect the power to the facility, the team trained under darkness. Until CAF take a serious action against all this North African countries, more african countries will start doing same back. Unfortunately, CAF may not be able to do anything now because: 1. CAF election is around the corner and Motsepe is desperate for election. 2. The North African block has a grip on CAF. 3. Nigeria should look into constitutional amendment to make the Apex more independent. The number of the court Judges should be increased and decisions ought to be made by majority votes One would have expected someone with an atom of sense to know that supreme court judgements are not made by one person.
