Death of the heroine; Division in a Family; Sacred Nature of Marriage; And other sub-themes. Chief Mrs Kiara Adesewa Adelakun (Nee Gerrard),a jewel to behold as a mother, grandmother,Great grandmother, sister and aunt died on the 14th of August,2008. At the very ripe Age of 96. Four months later, families, friends and well wishers gathered at the St. Micheal’s Catholic Church to celebrate her life well spent. But to many who were not close, did not know how her family was,the hatred amidst her children and the ‘dis-unity’ amongst them. My grandfather and I went on the 15th July to pay a visit to Mrs. Kiara’s home at Agege. Only God can tell what prompted my grandpa for a visit that very sunday, unplanned for. Find out in this outstanding story of how the themes and sub-themes appeal to the emotion,Leading a great deal of morals for family building. It was a sunday morning, I woke up to the warmth the early morning sun could offer, never did I know how the day would go. I did some chores, took my bathe, brushed and was dressed for Mass(as in service). I had gone to meet my Grandpa for money I would use in purchasing ‘bulletin’ and give during offertory when he informed me, we would pay a visit to Mama kiara’s. The driver was around, he had gotten the car ready and I was the person delaying the visit due to the fact I was heading to church but they knew, they had to wait for me. I was the ‘choir-master’/president of the children/ youth choir and without me, it would be very obvious at mass I wasn’t around,–so I left for church giving ‘Papa’ an “Okay, Sir!.” for ‘an’ answer. Immediately I got back from church at about 10:30am, we were set to leave. We drove on the Third Mainland Bridge and Papa ‘slit’ his Rosary out of his pocket, praying!. I used the opportunity to contemplate on two (2) things. One of which was Mr. Gbenro, papa’s driver!. A dark in complexion with grey hairs already appearing on his head and jaw. He is a reserved man but to me too sluggish and dull that anybody could easily take him for granted. The man I was having these thoughts about would, or should be at least 20 years older than my dad. Enough to be my dad and in some other parts of this country, my grandfather. I knew it was wrong to have those thoughts but I was not someone who cared so long they were thoughts. **************************************** On the other hand, I was thinking what prompted Papa on a visit to Mama’s house, someone we visited almost a year ago. Immediately he was done praying his Rosary, I inquired!. “Papa, why are we visiting Mama?”. His sister!. “A mind drew me to her place and I felt, we should pay her a visit,” was his reply!. “Okay, Sir!. It’s cool”. I adjusted on the back seat and sank into thought again. Well, old people always have that urge when something is happening at the other end or about to happen. I was still trying to guess what might have happened since the last time we paid a visit to Mama. Would her house still wear that same old look of its outer part but dazzles inside?. Would she have Chin-chin for us?. Would the last maid still be serving her?. How might she be coping in the house?. Because she lives in such a big house with only a maid, those types of maid that would come lying,– they would not steal, lie but take care of Mama as theirs’, but spending not up to 2 months, they were gone!. I could not help my thoughts, could not hear what Grandpa said, I was totally lost, I asked!. “Kini e so sir (what did you say)?.” “Man yi ma ti so wa nu ke (Mr. Gbenro had missed the road/way and we were lost)!!!.” I lifted my head, looked out of the window may be I could recognise where we were, all to no avail, I couldn’t tell but Mr. Gbenro drove on. **************************************** Where was Mr Gbenro headed??……only time would tell. – Governor Al-Makura of Nasarawa state said nobody can challenge the decisions of President Buhari – The governor was reacting to criticisms over Buhari’s reversal on his electoral propmise – Buhari is at liberty to change his mind and take decisions, Al-Makura said The governor of Nasarawa state, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, said Nigerians cannot challenge the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari’s not to fulfill his government’s pledge of paying N5000 monthly allowances to unemployed citizens. Gov Al-Makura says nobody can challenge Buhari Briefing State House correspondents after meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, February 29, the governor said Buhari had the right to review his party’s electoral promise, The Punch reports. He said: “ The president is the person that can tell you precisely how he is working on promises and interventions that he has created by his ingenuity. And if at any point in time the president is reviewing that issue, I think he is the only person to that because what he is doing is in the best interest of the country. And so, it is not challengeable by anybody whatever his position.” Ahead of the 2015 presidential election, one of the electoral promises of Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) was that a monthly allowance of N5,000 will be paid to unemployed youths in the country. But, at the weekend, Buhari had during an interactive session in Saudi Arabia described the N5,000 stipend as largesse which was not on his priority list. He stated that he would rather channel resources into the building of infrastructure, education, agriculture and mining to create employment opportunities for able bodied young men. According to Al-Makura, if Buhari decided to change his mind over his electoral promise, it was for the good of the country based on prevailing realities. On what he discussed with Osinbajo, the Nasarawa governor said they talked about the security situation in his state and that of Benue state which had led to bloody clashes between herdsmen and farmers. On his part, the Imo state governor and chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha, said that the promise will be implemented one way or the other, The Nation reports. He noted that more problems are sometimes created by physical cash, saying the president has saved the money for unemployed youths to produce further wealth. “ The very poor people who have to ensure a lot of social inconveniences to pay school fees are no longer dong that, what has happened is that he has saved that money to produce further wealth, so if you keep money through that system, it creates more impact than physical cash ,” Okorocha said. Buhari’s reversal on his electoral promise has been trailed with condemnable criticisms from many Nigerians. Meanwhile, Lai Mohammed, the information minister said Buhari has to downsize some of its campaign promises because the realities on ground are now different from what it was during the campaigning period. He explained that the price of crude was $100 a barrel then, but now it is $30 a barrel. http://skyevibes.com/2016/02/29/n5000-monthly-allowance-nobody-can-challenge-buhari-read-what-this-governor-has-to-say/ |

– Okonjo-Iweala attended the conference on immunisation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The chair of the Global Vaccine Alliance Board observed the immunisation of babies and children at the health centre in Addis Ababa – Nigerians have reacted to the former finance minister’s visit to Ethiopia Nigerians have continued their reactions regarding Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s visit to the ministerial conference on immunisation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Iweala who is chairperson of the Gavi Vaccine Alliance board, and a former finance minister of Nigeria observed the administration of vaccines to babies and children while at the Ethiopian capital. Following news regarding the Iweala’s trip, many Nigerians took to socio-media to speak for and against the ex-minister who in recent times have come under heavy criticisms. Below are the mixed-reactions of some Nigerians on Facebook. Okonjo-Iweala on her visit to Ethiopia “Innocent children were killed under her watch” “They killed Nigerian children by diverting money under her watch,” those were the words of Samuel Ola Bakare who was furious that Iweala was helping Ethiopian children when many Nigerian children reportedly perished under the Goodluck Jonathan administration in which she served. Tajudeen Muyiwa also echoed Bakare’s claims saying: “Heartless woman! She didn’t see the need to improve the lots of Nigerians she impoverished through unbridled corruption under her watch as the minister of finance and coordinating minister of economy. She has forgotten that if she is not brought to book in this world, she would account for all the atrocities in the hereafter.” Another furious Facebook user, Serenagold Onaibre said: “How has she affected the lives of agwashi uku people”. Uwaoma Sonma took the argument a bit further, saying: “She can’t help Nigerians, maybe she is targeting their finance. Ethiopia should be careful of minister of mismanagement, all she knows is to blow big economic grammar that has no effect in youur country’s. economy.” In line with what Sonma had said, another user named Uche Anazodo Zodos said: “The Ethiopians should be very careful with her before she warms her way into the government circles to be in a position to wreck their economy for them. Africans are yet to know who is who among certain individuals occupying positions in government whose interest they protect and who their pay masters are.” The great woman whose potentials Nigeria has refused to utilise Amarachi Ugochi Hisgrace extolled the potentials of Iweala, while taking a swipe at Kemi Adeosun the current finance minister. “Great woman since 9ja doesn’t need u anymore please fly higher and higher internationally, I always see you at the top,” Amarachi said. Adding: “But have you heard the latest change from the present finance minister? 16+6=24.” Ikpoaku Odinikpoaku Nwaku who reacted to Iweala being called a corrupt official, told other users to desist from labeling the ex- minister as corrupt. Ikpoaku argued that even President Muhammdu Buhari has said he has no prove to persecute her. On her part, Mirian Igwegbe noted that complaining all the time will not solve the Nigerian problem. She stressed that the incessant complaints of Nigerians is a factor which is impeding growth of the nation. She concluded by warning that Iweala be left alone as to allow the focus remain on the present administration and what can be done to deliver change. see photo @ http://skyevibes.com/2016/03/02/okonjo-iweala-in-ethiopia-they-killed-nigerian-children-under-her-watch-nigerians-react/ |
– Buhari given probable ways of saving
national currency
– Utomi revelas what Nigerians need to do
very, very quickly
Professor Pat Utomi, one of prominent
Nigerian economists, has given advises to
President Muhammadu Buhari on how to
save naira.
The Central Bank of Nigeria has taken
measures to improve the value of naira on
the black market.
In recent times, the currency changed for
N400 to a dollar and had been fluctuating
between N300 and N395 ever since.
READ ALSO: 5 Reasons Why Naira Rate Will
Begin To Fall
As at the time of filing this report, naira was
changing for N320 to a dollar on the parallel
market, and N197 to a dollar at the inter-
bank rate.
Utomi in the interview granted to the City
People proposes Buhari and his economic
team a new perspective as to the possible
ways of saving the naira.
He said: “ 4 months ago, I said look, the drop
in oil prices will lead to some exchange rate
challenge, in terms of widening gap between
the official market being defended, by the
Central Bank and the so called Open Market.
“What we need to do very, very quickly is that
we should go to a managed floating exchange
rate, don’t be fastidious about saying we
would not let the naira fall, let it just lie
gradually. At that time the Purchasing Power
Parity which is really your true exchange rate
and the simplest measure of it is if you
produce a product which is the same in every
country, the same with exact ingredients, if it
costs you N10 to produce one in Nigeria, and
cost you 2 pounds to produce one in London,
and cost you 3 dollars to produce one in the
US. That is the exchange rate. “How much of your currency produces that same exact thing? That is the Purchasing Power Parity (PPD). How you measure what the exchange rate is, realistic or not, is how it diverges from that PPP line. At that very point in time, a measure, that Bismark Rewane Offered, is that difference from the PPP line was only N6. So if we had allowed a managed floating exchange rate, it will depreciate gradually people won’t even notice much that anything is moving but immediately while that is happening you should recognize that you have a financing gap. You knew that this will not go on forever, you are planning to do this, you are planning to do that, you will begin to put your plan in place. Shoot term, Low hanging fruits of diversification, maybe Tourism, get customs men immigration officer to be more, service people to be more alert and sell it to travel agents abroad, longer term, factor endowment based development of value chains from different part of Nigeria to focus on 4 or 5 major endowment of Nigeria, maybe sesimieseed in middle Belt, Hydrocarbon Value Chain in the South-South, some Agric based value chain in the North West and take your game plan and go out to London, to New York, to the major financial centers this is what we are doing things are going to be ok and people will feel this guy is ok, they are doing well.” Read world news daily @ www.Skyevibes.com |
– Senate president, Bukola Saraki pledges to help President Muhammadu Buhari revive Nigeria’s economy – Professor Olugbenga Okunola extolled the 8th Senate Senate president, Bukola Saraki promised to help President Muhammadu Buhari revive the economy. Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has promised to work with President Muhammadu Buhari to revive Nigeria’s economy. Today ng reports that the Senate president made the pledge on February 28 when he played host to the national executive of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) led by its president, Professor Olugbenga Okunola. In a statement issued in Abuja by his chief press secretary, Sanni Onogu, Saraki said the 8th Senate will cooperate with the executive to make sure that the policies and programmes of the present government towards reviving the economy are sustained on a long term. Saraki said the Senate was on a mission to ensure that the country harnessed her non- oil resources and achieved full diversification of the economy. “For us in the 8th Senate we have said it that our focus is to continue to give support to those sectors of our economy that will provide employment, increase the earnings of government and the growth of the economy in general. “And if you are talking about the growth of the economy, you have to give particular consideration to the mining sector. And what do we need to do to get that done? I want to assure you that the message I will like you to take away is that the 8th Senate is ready to give all the support in ensuring that we truly begin to harness the hitherto the unexplored and neglected potentials that we have. “We have been talking about these potentials for a long time. It is time to talk about realising the potentials and translating them to economic power. how to bring. That is our own vision and mission. “We have all seen the downside of being a mono-product economy. We are all suffering from it now. When you see what is happening to our revenues, our foreign exchange inflows and particularly what is happening to even the foreign exchange rate due to our over dependence on crude oil. “The projection that it is going to be down for a couple of years means that any serious minded country needs to look at the options available. And some of the things we are seeing now is because there is a lot of speculation out there,” he said. Saraki said a lot of speculators believe that the Senate doesn’t have the political will to see through some of the policies and programmes aimed at diversifying the economy, saying that is why some people are betting against the Naira. He said the Naira is now rebounding because such people are beginning to realise that the present administration is committed on its policy. “I want to assure you that we are committed. The political will is there. We are very determined to see that we diversify. All these things you are talking about are well known to a lot of us. The frustration has been that we have not been able to see it through. I want to assure you that this Senate is committed to ensure that we support the executive in sustaining these long term polices. This is important and that is where we must start from,” Saraki said. Speaking earlier, Okunola said the society visited Saraki to appreciate what the 8th Senate has been doing. “We have been talking about diversification of the nation’s economy over the years….I think as a society, as professionals, this is what we have been clamouring for over the years that we are sitting on buried riches and that the government is now saying that they want to take this serious gladdens us. – The first edition of the Lagos Barbecue Series held in Lagos recently and it was a swell night of fun – A-list Nigerian musician MI Abaga was the headlining artiste and guest celebrity for this edition which kept fans engaged all evening long – The event was supported by Naij.com and Lagosinurface among others The first edition of the Lagos Barbecue Series (LBBQs) held on Tuesday, February 23 in Ikoyi, Lagos and it was an evening of fun, music and refreshment. The LBBQs is basically a “meet and relate” evening between fans and their favourite celebrities. Chocolate City rapper and executive MI Abaga was the guest celebrity and headlining artiste for the event, and he treated fans to a cool session wherein he provided answers to some intimate questions revolving around him and his career as well as Chocolate City entertainment company in general. The rapper connected with his fans and they got to see him in a different light from the enigmatic rapper on screens. A brief and fun interview session took place with the LBBQS hosts Dola and Dapo drilling The Chairman with questions, most of which he didn’t expect. He responded to these questions and it was a fun evening. The audience was also wowed with a splendid performance from an eight-year-old child star Jenyo Atoloye of Rosecroft Preparatory School who put up a superb, controlled sax performance. When asked about his relationship status and the woman in his life he gave an interesting response. The Chairman rapper said the character MI cannot have a relationship. He said: “You see, MI cannot have a relationship for many reasons and people do not understand this. “MI is a concept, an idea, and this is why he cannot be caught up in anything like a romantic affair. On Instagram MI is one thing, on Twitter MI is another concept, right here MI is an idea. This is how it goes and switches based on the situation.” He managed to crack the audience up with his response on this as well as on other questions through the night. In response to the issue of fellow Chocolate City rapper and label executive Ice Prince Zamani and the allegations of his girlfriend’s infidelity, MI said Ice Prince was a very smart man in the whole issue. He added that Ice Prince had to respond in the most logical way possible given the issue in question which was a really good thing. During the event, The Chairman also talked about his upcoming mixtape The Illegal Music III which could be his final mixtape. It is expected to drop in late February. Also, he plans to drop another album soon. When asked if that will be his last album he responded saying it cannot possibly be his last even though he would be relaxing on a lot of personal projects to focus more on running Chocolate City. MI also hinted the fans and press men gathered on the night that he has a joint album with Cobhams and 2Baba already almost done, as well as a personal album which was completed years ago. He sure has an arsenal of songs and with his plan to drop two a mixtape and album back to back this year, one can only wonder how many completed songs he has. The LBBQs climaxed with upcoming singer Arewa, fresh from a recently concluded music reality show, performing MI’s One Naira while the rapper himself took charge of the piano and they both combined to really heartwarming effect. A remix of the songs with her won’t be bad. The LBBQS garden was opened up with MI been presented the LBBQS souvenir, a customized apron. Chef MI went on to grill before everyone gathered on the night. He also got to nominate Banky W, Bovi and Toolz as celebrities he will love to see on the next edition of the show. The audience also enjoyed shawarma, grilled chicken and finger foods from Grind Grills Outdoor with protein supplies from Benox Farm and small chops by Delicacies Plus. In addition, refreshing drinks coming from Cocktails In & Out, Fresh Juice from Fontaine De Vie & Water from Etana kept the people elated. Ohlala also helped provide desserts at the event. It was a perfect avenue to network and share ideas between young minds. The event was produced by 1908, A4 films, FullHouse, Matrix and Design Works. The outfits were provided by Orijo Deals, Vivi Fashion and Bumi Deju while styling was by Crystalswish. Security was provided by Spartan, while MI’s souvenir was framed by Rottit Resources. Multimedia was by Stretch Audiovisuals. It was proudly supported by Lagosinurface and Naij.com. The event was powered by H09 with additional support from Chocolate City Music Label and 10A Event. Some reports claimed that the naira traded at about 305 to a dollar , while others disclosed that the nation’s currency traded between 250-270/dollar. If you say they are the ones causing it, then where are you today? “It needs strategic management. If you call me for that consultancy, I would put naira back to 200.” This speech Was still in consideration of some leaders mind who heard him but all we have to do is to keep praying to God for a great intervention – By Anuka John http://skyevibes.com/2016/02/22/200-can-still-1-naira-can-ifeanyi-ubah/ Sources News: Skyevibes.com |
Professor Wole Soyinka has said that the lust for power drove certain politicians to support Boko Haram Soyinka described the issues surrounding the disappearance of over 200 Chibok girls as a grievous dereliction of responsibility on the part of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, which was in government at the time of their abduction. He recalled that when the girls were first declared missing, there was a cynical approach to the information on their kidnapping. “The government refused to accept this fact until it was too late… For at least two weeks, it would have been possible from all reports to rescue those girls,” he stressed. Soyinka, who was defeated in his bid to become the Professor of poetry at Oxford University in the UK, attributed his defeat to inexperience on his part. “I think this is the first time I have really been involved in a serious contest. I was nominated by people and I felt that was a marvelous idea to retire into poetry. I like what some of my detractors said; I took it quite seriously. “When things got a bit tough, I said listen, we are experienced in Nigeria in electioneering, let me bring our experts, they would rig this election and I would emerge victorious overnight. But they won’t listen to me and we lost,” he responded. In response to a question on the agitation by some students in Oxford University for the removal of the statue of Cecil Rhodes, the 19th century mining magnate and British imperialist who once served as the Prime Minister of the Cape Colony (present day South Africa and Namibia) and later founded Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe and Zambia), at the Ivy League university, Soyinka said: “For me, I am not prone to one side more than the other. I believe very much in history. “History is not just what is written down, it is also culture. The painful part of history is how a people or a community came to be. “I told a story when I was a Fellow in Churchill College, Cambridge, and I was there for about a year. Every time I came down to have a drink or go for breakfast or dinner and I saw the statue of Winston Churchill, I had to overcome the feeling of giving it a sharp blow to send it crashing. “For me, that is perfectly natural and at the same time I must confess that academically speaking, that this is part of the shameful and embarrassing history,” Soyinka said. The man-of-letters said he disliked Churchill because he was a “master colonialist”, but acknowledged that the British would never subscribe to the feelings that he held against Churchill. He said: “I am looking at that history from my point of view. But he is part of that history of the United Kingdom.” When asked on his views on racism, Soyinka said: “Globally, Britain, America, Europe and even their “poorer European cousins”, all amounts to colour. “I think we are going backwards. There was a time when the sense of humanity became globalised. What Martin Lurther King fought for is not yet over.” See Photo @ http://skyevibes.com/2016/02/22/professor-wole-soyinka-reveal-nigeria-behind-boko-haram/ |
