EducationRe: Is Medicine And Surgery Worth All The Admission Stress? by Presido95: 5:52pm On May 22, 2019
spiceadole:
I will use myself as an example.
I took the UME exam 4 times, spent 7 years in medical school.

Right now, I am a resident doctor in one of the federal teaching hospitals.

I will say the many years I spent to bag a first degree is worth it.
In Nigeria of today, one can't get decent jobs without "connection".

As a houseofficer(my first job after graduation), I earned close to 200K.

Next was NYSC, I earned from 2 sources.. A total of 120K

Now, my take home is roughly 300K.

And I am just a junior doctor.

In a country plagued by unemployment and corruption, I am an edge above others... I know.

How many young Nigerians are earning 300K?
Many of my colleagues in secondary school who graduated a long time ago are either jobless, working outside their course of study and earning very meagre income.

I studied medicine for the passion... Not for people to bow to me.. Guess what, many people still do.
They hear.. Medical doctor.. And they are like wow. Lol.

Being a doctor has put enough food on my table, given me shelter.. And yes.. That Toyota Corolla.
Let me start with that.
It will get better.
4 years as a medical doctor... Just 4 years.. It's being fantastic.
Honestly, even though you might think you are being paid very well, don't forget the extra years it took you to study medicine. Another student with same potentials like yourself and even less effort would have already started earning big bucks in a multinational firm. For instance, it takes roughly 2 years to reach 300k if you work in a big consulting firm and you won't need to study as hard as doctors. So many young Doctors were the brightest minds in their school, but let the blind love for medicine cloud their judgement. Many of them should probably be better off by now.
Nigeria of today is not treating Doctors well enough and its really telling on the proffesion.
Using myself as an example, some of my doctor friends who entered uni with me in 2011 have not even served or gotten housemanship while I'm already about to get into my 3rd year in a big firm and earning close to the figure you mentioned. Come to think of it, the only reason I wasn't pressured into studying medicine was because for some reason, I coudnt pass Chemistry. In hindsight, I'm kind of grateful I didn't study medicine with the way the profession is being handled in Nigeria. My advise to them it to leave this country.
Let's not even talk about the stress they go through. Mind you, most of my mates in the proffesion are very smart guys and were model students back then.
Nigeria needs to start treating medical doctors with more respect, financially and otherwise, and its only the current doctors that can ensure this happens by not settling for anything less.

I doubt SE margin would change much. Check the ward results from Anambra. Obi easily getting 90% of the votes in his home state yet turnout is barely 30% across the announced wards. This is even with the VP candidate coming from there. FWIW i can never figure out why people in the SE never come out to vote. Either general apathy or the registered voter numbers there are inflated.
And as for Lagos, I think it’ll be a narrow APC edge because of their strongholds like Alimosho etc.
Atiku might have a path but I can’t see it with the margins I’m seeing from the North. A lot depends on how large his victories in Delta, Rivers and Akwa Ibom are because it seems APC has effectively neutralised those places and would hit their 25% targets there at the minimum.
Tambuwal would have won this for PDP though and he didn’t have the corruption tag that dogged Atiku.
I understand your point. Though, I still think SW/SE would cancel NW/NE. Ok, lets do a state by state analysis.

Atiku
SE - Anambra +700k, Enugu +500K, Abia +400K, Ebonyi, +300k, Imo +300k. Total 2.2m
SS - Rivers +600k (including rigging), Cross River +400k, Bayelsa +300k, Akwa Ibom +200k, Delta +200k, Edo +100k. Total +1.8m
Total +4m

Buhari
NW Katsina +1m, Kano +800k, Kaduna +400k, Sokoto +200k, Jigawa +200k, Kebbi +200k, Zamfara +200k. Total +3m
NE Bauchi +500k, Borno +500k, Yobe +200k, Gombe +100k, Adamawa -200k, Taraba -100k Total +1m
Total +4m

If any major margin is to go to Buhari from this regions. I don't see more than 500k cumulative which should be canceled by NC and a maybe marginal victory in NW

This could be the tightest elections in Nigeria's history though. smiley

SenseiVoyles:
Here’s the irony of the whole thing. Atiku would end up with more states than Buhari but would lose the election thanks to smaller margins and poor turnout across the South. As things stand, Atiku would win every Southern state with the exception of Ekiti, Ogun and a narrow loss in Lagos. He’s leading in all NC states except Kwara and Niger and is ahead in the NE states of Taraba and Adamawa. He’ll end up with 20 states to Buhari’s 16 but with Buhari’s larger turnout in the NW/NE and getting 25% in most of the SS, he’ll eke out a narrow win.
Btw, Kudos to Tambuwal for helping PDP perform comparatively strongly in Sokoto, he probably would have been a stronger presidential candidate in the north.
And Kudos to the SW voters too, they are truly the most sophisticated voters in Nigeria. I didn’t expect Atiku to be leading in Oyo and Ondo, I expected Osun because of pent up anger about the irregularities in the guber poll and I knew Lagos would be split almost evenly thanks to non-indigenes. NL Partisans would make one think the SW is a monolithic voting bloc but time and time again they always show they reject non-performance.
Nice analysis. But I think you are over rating the margin Buhari will win NW/NE. The way it stands SE/SS Atiku victory would cancel out NW/NE Buhari victory based on Atiku's performance in Sokoto, Adamawa, Taraba like you said. Dont forget, Jonathan performed worse in these areas in 2015 and so Atiku has closed the margin a little in NE/NW. Now, if at all there is still any difference of say 500k, Atiku would cover it up with his victory in NC and SW where I think he would win with margins of about 500k each. BTW APC would lose Lagos with a small margin too and Ekiti has small number of voters.

They will always be rigging in all polls electronic or not.your predictions are nice but buhari should be ahead not atiku.atiku wont get more than 15 million.only anambra and rivers can give atiku up to a million votes.he wont get more than 500,000 in the remsining eastern states.
If atiku is getting 700k in kano, buhari would get up to 3million.buhari will get more than 500k in yobe and up to a million in borno.buhari will win lagos and osun by more than 100k votes.atiku wont get more than 300,000 in cross river.buhari would get at least 300k in akwa ibom and 500k in rivers.pdp wont get up to a million in delta.

Atiku cant get more than 200k in jigawa while buhari should poll a million.buhari will win edo narrowly and if he's losing it wont be more than 10k margin, same as in ekiti and nasarawa.ebonyi wont give pdp more than 250,000.kebbi and zamfara should give buhari at least 700k.he will win oyo by more than 200k and ogun by more than 100k.

You destroyed your own work calling Adamawa, Kwara, Borno, Edo and even Nasarawa for Atiku. So much work analytical work based on wrong premise.

Is there something they sprayed in the air that is making people post wishful thinking as fact?.

And you based it on 2015 election results. 2015 elections were rigged by PDP. They lost yes, but they still rigged.
I'm sure you didn't go through this post. I even predicted over 80% for Buhari in Borno. And in case you didnt know, GEJ won nassarawa in 2015. As for Kwara, it was an APC state in 2015. PDP Rigged? Lolz... and still lost right. What makes you think Adamawa won't vote Atiku. Even if I agree with you that Edo is a close call.
PoliticsMy Predictions For The 2019 Presidential Elections by Presido95(op):
Based on 2015 elections, I have done a prediction on how I think this year's presidential elections would come out.

Apparently, this might be the closest election in years. Despite the seemingly unimpressive performance by Buhari, I foresee him still getting a significant number of votes in the North. But if Atiku can compete enough for the Northern votes, I think he has a very big chance of winning.

I still think the election is too close to call. Events in the coming 4weeks in terms of campaigns, propaganda, election manipulation could decide.

Assumptions: Same voter turnout as 2015 elections with new Registered Voters

I just laugh at people who say s/west would vote APC 100% because of Osinbajo. S/west that still voted Jonathan their vote in 2011 when Tunde Bakare was running as VP? Even Obasanjo never got block vote from S/west during his time as president. Infact, s/west was a major opposition to him. I don't think this would change now. I'm expecting something in region of 55% for APC in the s/west... regardless of whether Atiku picks VP from S/east or S/west. A lot of S/westerners would not vote based on tribe.
