He made the call while declaring open the 19th National Women Council Meeting held at the International Event centre, the Dome, in Akure the state capital. The governor was represented by his deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi,. He said the state government has paid its counterpart contribution of N6million to complement the federal government’s contribution to the Bank of Industry in 2005 for helping poor women farmers. “The first tranche of the loan was distributed to 38 women cooperatives in 2005/2006. A total of N9,275,000 was released to the cooperative societies due to be repaid within 24 months. “As at 1st August, 2019, a sum of N10,233,288.86 consisting of recovered loan, undisbursed fund and the two per cent interest on the fund in the custody of Bank of Agriculture was due for second disbursement. “Despite 80% recovery in respect of the first tranche, the Bank of Agriculture is yet to disburse the second tranche. There is seemingly a stalemate”. He noted. Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Equality and social inclusion: A panacea for peace, security and sustainable development in Nigeria”, the governor stressed the need to make a concerted effort to ensure gender mainstreaming in our social development agenda. Akeredolu described social inclusion as a way of finding a stable society where no one is discriminated against, saying this guarantees peace, security and sustainable development. He therefore called on women to rise up and play their necessary roles in every facet of the national development. He enjoined the council to consider the overall objectives of the Economic Recovery and Growth plan for social development in the formulation of national social policies for Nigeria. The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Dame Pauline Tallen commended the South West governors, and rated them high as far as women inclusion in governance is concerned. She noted that social justice is a catalyst for peace and harmony. Mrs Tallen appealed to state governors to domesticate the Child Right Act in order to ensure that perpetrators of violence against children are punished. She further urged governors to partner the ministry at ensuring that children in the grassroots are enrolled in school, while stressing the need for women to be educated. Earlier, in her welcome address, the wife of the state governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu described the annual event as an avenue for participants to interact, network and get acquainted with the culture of the host State in a bid to forging national integration. Akeredolu not hospitalised, says commissioner The absence of the Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu from office in the recent time has been generating reactions from various quarters as some were saying the governor had been in the hospital, treating food poisoning. The Deputy Governor, Mr Agboola Ajayi has been in charge of government in an acting capacity, due to the absence of the governor. To quell the rumours of ill health, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Donald Ojogo said that the governor was not ill nor suffering from food poisoning. Ojogo, who spoke with journalists in Akure, the state capital on Thursday, said the governor was on his annual vacation and had returned to Abuja where he had been attending to various matters that concerned the state. The commissioner, who reiterated that Akeredolu was hale and hearty, said that the governor would soon return to the state. Ojogo said, “We have been hearing all manners of things about the governor, but I want to tell you that those are insinuations from those who don’t mean well for this state. “Mr Governor went for his annual vacation. After spending 10 days from it, he came back to attend to some domestic issues and shortly after his daughter’s wedding, he proceeded for the rest of the vacation and returned on October 4, (2019). Since then he has been in Abuja to attend to many important issues, including political meetings because he does not want to be going Abuja every day. “So Akeredolu is not hospitalised as it is being insinuated. His absence has not affected the governance in the state. But we don’t want to be frivolous with anybody. What they are peddling is not true. Those stories are from those who don’t mean well for this state. ” On the flood that has recently ravaged some communities in the state, Ojogo called on the Federal Government to come to the rescue of the state, saying the state alone could not solve the problem. Group commends Akeredolu over Ore flyover SOURCE - TRIBUNE A group, Ondo for Good Governance, Accountability and Transparency (OGGAT) in Ondo State, on Tuesday said the construction of Ore flyover bridge and other roads across the state will help to improve the socio-economic development in the state. The group stated this in Ore headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, said apart from witnessing economic development in the state, the road constructions will also help to reduce incessant traffic bottleneck experienced in Ore. Speaking on behalf of the group, the state coordinator, Mrs Margaret Akinwalere, commended the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, for initiating and executing projects in infrastructure, education, health and human capital development. Akinwalere said that history will not forget Akeredolu in a hurry as a man with passion, zeal, and commitment whose achievements were unprecedented in the governance of the state. She noted that Akeredolu’s administration has made the people of the state know that it is possible for contractors to mobilise and work on sites during raining season.Mrs Akinwalere stressed that the governor has entrenched good governance through the execution of pro-people projects, adding that infrastructural development is key to the growth of a state or a country. “We are an advocate for good governance, accountability and transparency. “This is a group that has professionals as core members. OGGTA has been in the existence for the past 18 years and we can simply speak on both the past and present governments in the state. “We have been following Akeredolu’s activities since the flag off of his campaign in October 2016, just how we did to other governorship candidates. Our duty was to collate all the campaign promises made by all these candidates and to ensure these promises are implemented when the winner gets to the office. “We vividly remember that Akeredolu made the promise of the construction of this flyover to the people of Ondo State when he flagged off his 2016 campaign in this same Ore town. Since then, we have been monitoring the activities of the governor. “So far, Akeredolu deserves the pass mark of the people of the State because he has been able to fulfil the majority of his campaign promises. His projects are visible. There is no local government in the state that you can say has been left out.” Mrs. Akinwalere said: “Akeredolu has taken a worthy risk by embarking on this flyover project on the basis that we are not even sure if the federal government will refund the money that the state government spent if we should base this on the recent comment of the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Tunde Fashola that the federal governments will no longer refund a state government who constructs a federal government road. “We believe strongly that the risk is worth taking. Although, this a federal government road but the state government can no longer wait when lives are being lost as a result of avoidable circumstance. “Ore is a gateway town, situated in a vantage position between the Western part and the Eastern part of Nigeria. We are glad that the Governor is constructing an international standard flyover that will serve as a major contribution to the economic growth of the country. https://tribuneonlineng.com/group-commends-akeredolu-over-ore-flyover/ Group commends Akeredolu over Ore flyover

ONDO STATE ENJOYS PORTABLE WATER THROUGH AKAMOMI AKETI Water is essential to the wellbeing of citizens; it is rather unfortunate that its accessibility was as low as 4% (percent) to the entire population of Ondo State at the inception of this administration. Drinking water comes from a variety of sources e.g public water systems, private wells, or bottled water. Ensuring safe and healthy drinking water may be as simple as turning on the tap. It is important to know where drinking water comes from, how it’s been treated, and if it’s safe to drink. Research has shown that half of the Ondo State's hospital beds were filled with people suffering from a water-related disease between 2015 to early 2017 In developing countries, about 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions. 1 out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 is due to a water-related disease. Clean and safe water is essential to healthy living. Contaminated water can cause many types of diseases, such as Cholera, Guinea worm disease, Typhoid, and Dysentery. These were some of the major problems facing the people of Ondo State before Akeredolu got to office. In the quest of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu administration’s commitment towards providing potable water supply across the State he has rehabilitated 750 boreholes in 300 communities through the Ondo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASSA. This agency is setting a New Direction for the provision of adequate, safe and accessible water in rural and small towns across the state and also achieving tangible benefits to health for Ondo State citizens. Through this projection, the Ondo State Government is aiming to meet the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goal Six which centers on Water and Sanitation with an impressive percentage of performance before the year 2030. Consequently, the Ondo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASSA, is daily making significant progress in water accessibility delivery to citizens of Ondo State through On-the-Spot Borehole Rehabilitation, inventory and needs assessment across the 18 Local Government Areas irrespective of the technical and geological challenges. The actual increase in the percentage of access to safe water supply through KAMOMI AKETI Accelerated Water Scheme is now 9.3%, thereby bringing the proportion of water access to 13.3% in less than seven months. This followed the declaration by Governor Akeredolu to provide potable water for all the communities in the state through Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, RUWASSA. Governor Akeredolu’s KAMOMI AKETI initiative has been applauded across the country. Presently other State Governors have started such projects in their various states, while the federal government has imbibed this great initiative of the Akeredolu led government. The ondo state Governor Akeredolu’s administration is measured by these eight factors Participation, Rule of Law, Transparency, Responsiveness, Consensus Oriented, Equity and Inclusiveness, Effectiveness and Efficiency, and Accountability. Governor Akeredolu has been lauded in all the communities of the state for his good governance by being ultimately accountable to the people of the State. They described his leadership as a positive move towards changing the face of Ondo state. ONDO STATE ATTAINS 90 PERCENT LITERACY RATES Education is the key to everything that is good in our world today. Advances in computers, information technology, math, medicine, psychology, engineering and every other discipline would be impossible if education did not let us build on the advances of the great minds that came before us. The formal education system in Nigeria is the 9-3- 4 system. Nigeria’s literacy rate is estimated at 61%. Nigeria has a large number of out-of-school children and young adults with limited literacy and numeracy skills who have little hope of ever joining the formal workforce. Forty-two percent of 6- to 16year-olds in the Southwest are Muslims, and the majority of these children (60 percent) attend only Qur’anic school, where they are not taught the formal curriculum. Unlike in the Northern part of Nigeria, almost two-thirds of students are functionally illiterate. Meanwhile The Southwest region has fairly high pre-primary, primary, junior secondary school (JSS) and senior secondary school (SSS) net attendance rates at around 80 percent, though it still has not achieved universal basic education. Literacy rates, at 75 percent, are also much higher than the national average of 40–46 percent. By age 11, most children in Southwest Nigeria have entered school. A large proportion of 12- to 14-year-olds are still in primary school, partly a result of students starting primary school late or repeating some classes. Children aged 6–11 in the poorest households are slightly less likely to attend primary school (89 percent), and interventions should be targeted to this group. Secondary School-Age Children School attendance for children age 12–16, the official secondary school ages, is high (90 percent), but many young teenagers are over-age primary school students—a problem for households of all income levels. By age 16, more students have left school. Although the attendance rates for secondary are low for this age group, they grow steadily to 85 percent by age 15. In Ondo state the education system is fast and Literacy rates is at 90 % which is higher than the 40 – 46 percent which is the universal basic education. While in August 2018, some students from St. peter’s secondary school, Dominion science Owo, and Greater tomorrow primary school, Ikare Akoko. Ojo Victor and Adejumo Daniel, Kayode Daniel, and Fayehun Olalekan represented Ondo state at the science teachers’ association of Nigeria (STAN) Competition at Kastina in project, quiz for both primary and secondary students. These students came first position trophies and other gift items, overall best physical science and written quiz and overall best basic science. In October 2018 Ondo state was represented by two students from St. peter’s unity secondary school Akure Aro Elizabeth and Ojo Victor respectively at the national science and technology fair held at Umuahia Abia state. Where they perform excellently well. Elizabeth and Ojo came first position to represent Nigeria at the International Science fair OK-SEF in Turkey between 10th and 19th June, 2019. In October 2018 students from St. peter’s unity secondary school Akure Aro Elizabeth and Ojo Victor respectively also represented Ondo state at the NTA/ETV National science and technology Expo where they came 2nd position Nationwide, and got Trophy, laptop and other gift items. ALLEGATIONS AGAINST GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU ON UNIMED’S VACANCIES APPLICATION CHARGES UNTRUE – OJOGO The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon Donald Ojogo has described as untrue, the allegations against Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on charges attached to vacancies application into the University of Medical Sciences UNIMED. In a statement, Ojogo said the administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN upon assumption of office, promised to instill good governance in all sectors of the administration. According to the statement, the government remains unwavering in this regard. This avowed commitment is further given potency by Mr. Governor’s mantra of Thinking Anew, Acting Anew. ” The purpose of appointing aides and other lieutenants in government is to share responsibilities, believing that such would be judiciously deployed for good governance. For emphasis therefore, Governor Akeredolu, after approving the request to fill vacancies and shortfalls in the Teaching Hospital, did not need to usurp the responsibilities and functions of the Chief Medical Director who is the Chief Executive Officer of the tertiary medical institution. It is perhaps, imperative for me to state that rather than being offended or hurt by such pardonable conclusions arising from the subject matter, a clear and precise response to all such insinuations linking Mr Governor directly, with same is pertinent. Akeredolu Commences Construction of World-Class Teaching Hospital in Akure ...Targets 500 Bed Medical Facility The determination of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration to provide first-class health facilities for the people of Ondo State has taken another giant leap with the commencement of the construction of a modern world-class teaching hospital at the former State hospital in Akure, the state capital. Already, the Critical Care Unit complex has been constructed and will be used as the temporary Accident and Emergency ward to allow for the demolition and construction of a two-storey complex at the current A & E building. Similarly, a new building has been constructed for the Children Emergency ward, which was never in existence since the establishment of the hospital. The Akeredolu administration has also began the reconstruction of a 16-year old abandoned structure at the hospital, which is projected to be used for surgical outpatience and stroke ward. Addressing Journalists after inspecting the ongoing construction at the facility, Governor Akeredolu said his administration is upgrading the health facility from a 150-bed to a 300-bed hospital. Arakunrin Akeredolu also hinted that he has given a directive that houses very close to the hospital should be valued, as his administration is ready to acquire the buildings and compensate the owners. He said apart from the fact that it is very dangerous living very close to a hospital, the acquisition will enable government to expand the facility and build a modern world-class Teaching hospital. Akeredolu said:”All of us have toured this facility and I’m sure you remember what we met on ground here . Since we came on board ,things have changed here including the road network and a number of buildings here have been renovated, but we have just started “The important thing is that we are building a new medical ward, a two-storey building and it will be so big. Very soon, by next month the frontage will go down and it will allow for a modern medical world-class facility here. “It is taking us a lot to arrive at making this place a world-class teaching hospital . We know that the University of Medical Sciences needed to have a befitting hospital . Instead of building new ones or concentrating in one area, we decided to have a multi-sector hospital. “This place used to be a 150-bed hospital and it will be 300-bed when we complete it. "I have looked at the buildings that are too close to the hospital and I have asked that they should be valued so that we can acquire them and compensate the owners . ”Our target is to have a 500-bed teaching hospital . A number of buildings around will have to go and we will pay compensation and expand the hospital to make it big.” Olabode R Olatunde Special Assistant to the Governor (New Media) 10th September , 2019 Source: http://ondostate.gov.ng/Home/NewsItem/Akeredolu-Commences-Construction-of-World-Class-Teaching-Hospital-in-Akure
