Education › Bandits Release New Videos Of Kidnapped Oyo Teachers After 14 Days In Captivity by Prestar(op): 1:00pm On May 29
Bandits have released new videos showing some of the teachers kidnapped during the recent attack on schools in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after spending 14 days in captivity.

In one of the videos circulating online, the principal of Community High School, Esiele, identified as Alamu F.O., was seen pleading emotionally with the government and well-meaning Nigerians to meet the demands of the abductors instead of engaging them in a confrontation.

The visibly distressed principal said the victims were going through severe hardship in captivity, adding that they had been exposed to harsh weather conditions without any form of shelter.

According to her, the abducted teachers and other victims have been left under heavy rain and scorching sun in the forest, while enduring serious pain and suffering.

She appealed to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies to urgently intervene and secure their release before the situation worsens.

The latest videos have sparked fresh concerns among Nigerians over the safety of teachers, students, and residents in parts of Oyo State following the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

The victims were abducted after armed men invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School in Ogbomoso during a coordinated attack earlier this month.

Concerns over rising insecurity in Abuja have intensified following reports that an Uber driver was allegedly killed by suspected car snatchers in the Zone 6 area of the capital.

According to reports circulating online, the victim—said to be a father of four residing in the Jabi area—was attacked during a violent incident that led to his death. The suspected attackers were reportedly attempting to steal the vehicle before the situation turned fatal.

Ogbomoso School Attack: Oyo NUT Announces School Shutdown, Plans Statewide Rallies

As the abduction of teachers and students from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, L.A. Basic School, and Baptist Basic School, Yawota in Oriire Local Government Area enters its third week, a group known as the Oyo State Teachers Action Group has announced plans to shut down schools across the state.

According to a flyer obtained by STAR POTTER, the group also revealed that solidarity rallies would be held in major cities across Oyo State.

The planned action has received the backing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State wing.

In a statement signed by the union’s secretary, Comrade Salami Olukayode, the NUT clarified that although it did not organise the protest, it supports efforts aimed at pressuring the government and security agencies to secure the release of the abducted teachers and pupils.

The statement noted that the union’s attention had been drawn to publications allegedly issued by some branch chairmen claiming to speak on behalf of the NUT concerning the planned “Peaceful Solidarity Walk” scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, across different parts of the state.

Olukayode stressed that only the state secretariat has the authority to officially communicate the union’s position to members and the public.

“Although the NUT has no link with the organisation of this Peaceful Solidarity Walk, it should be clearly stated that the union is not against any group or organisation showing solidarity to pressure the government and security operatives towards improving efforts to rescue our abducted colleagues and pupils,” the statement read.

Teachers have been directed to gather early Friday morning at designated centres including Ogbomoso High School in Ogbomoso, IDGS in Iseyin, Owode in Oyo, and Item 7, Iwo Road in Ibadan for the solidarity walk.

The group is demanding the temporary closure of schools until those in captivity are safely released, insisting that “education cannot thrive in fear.”

Recall that the NUT had earlier called for the closure of schools in vulnerable areas, a request reportedly ignored by the state government. However, the union has directed teachers in Oriire Local Government Area to stay away from schools.

'They arrived around 9AM wearing army uniforms’: Elderly Ogbomoso resident recounts how 46 people were kidnapped (Video)

An elderly resident of Oyo State has shared a heartbreaking account of how dozens of schoolchildren and teachers were allegedly abducted during a recent attack in the Oriire Local Government Area near Ogbomoso.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the man explained that his son’s wife, who teaches at one of the affected schools, was among those reportedly taken away by the attackers.

According to him, the woman seen crying while carrying a baby in a viral video circulating online is his daughter-in-law, and the abducted victims had still not been released at the time of the interview.

“My son’s wife is teaching in that school, they have taken her away. Yes, she is the one crying in the circulating video, the woman with the baby. They are yet to release them till now, we have not seen any one of them,” he said emotionally.

During the interview, Chude Jideonwo asked whether the video was recorded before the victims were taken away, but the elderly man explained that the community still had little understanding of how the operation was carried out.

When asked if such an incident had happened in the area before, the man responded that kidnappings of that scale were unusual in the community.

“It’s not common. Even if it has happened before, it is not in this manner. We don’t agree with such things here,” he said.

Narrating the incident further, the man alleged that the attackers arrived around 9 a.m. dressed in military camouflage, making residents initially believe they were genuine security personnel.

“It was around 9 am in the morning. They passed through this route dressed in Army camouflage. We didn’t take it seriously because we thought they were soldiers. But when they got to the school junction, they entered the school and started shooting everywhere,” he recounted.

He added that panic broke out as some of the children reportedly tried to escape through windows but were unable to do so due to fear and their young age.

“Some children wanted to flee through the window, but they didn’t have the strength. They packed the children, including nursery and primary school pupils, and took them away. They moved them through the road like a flock of cattle,” he said.

The attack reportedly occurred on Friday morning, May 15, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen riding motorcycles allegedly stormed several schools in the area. Schools said to have been targeted include Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

Community leaders claimed that about 46 persons, including seven teachers and 39 students and pupils, were abducted during the attack. However, the Oyo State Police Command earlier stated that between 25 and 32 persons were still unaccounted for as rescue operations continued.

Crime › Mob Beats Us-based Doctor Falsely Labelled As Kidnapper In Ibadan(video) by Prestar(op): 3:24pm On May 13
A medical doctor based in the United States narrowly escaped death after an angry mob in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, allegedly attacked him over a false kidnapping allegation, setting his vehicle ablaze before police officers intervened.

The incident, which occurred around 2:30pm on Monday at the 2nd Powerline Area along the Ologuneru, Eleyele–Ido Road axis of Ibadan, threw the community into confusion following reports that a suspected kidnapper had been apprehended by residents.

Confirming the development in a statement shared on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command said officers attached to the Eleyele Police Station swiftly responded to a distress call and rescued the victim from being lynched by the mob.

According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the victim’s Lexus RX 330 SUV had already been “set ablaze by the mob” before security operatives arrived at the scene.

The police identified the victim simply as Dr. Afolabi, describing him as “a medical doctor practising in the United States of America and not a kidnapper as falsely alleged in several misleading social media reports currently being circulated.”

Two young girls identified as Deborah, 15, and Rebecca, 12, who were found inside the vehicle, were also taken into protective custody alongside the doctor as part of preliminary investigations.

The Command disclosed that investigations later revealed that the girls were legally handed over to the doctor by one Mrs. Idowu Abimbola, 56, for the purpose of assisting the victim’s mother with household chores.

“In the course of investigation, Mrs. Idowu Abimbola was invited to the station where she confirmed the arrangement, while the two girls equally corroborated the account and related freely with the said woman, thereby dispelling the suspicion of abduction,” the statement said.

the police further explained that the misunderstanding began when the doctor attempted to gain access through the Polytechnic gate and was stopped by a security guard for routine checks.

According to the Command, suspicion was triggered after the girls were allegedly seen “half-naked” inside the vehicle when the doctor lowered the car window during the inspection.

The situation reportedly worsened when Dr. Afolabi could not provide satisfactory answers to questions from bystanders and later attempted to leave the checkpoint, leading to heightened suspicion among residents.

The police added that the inability of the two girls to communicate effectively in Yoruba or English further fuelled the false kidnapping alarm.

“The development consequently led to a mob chase and eventual interception of the victim by irate youths who reportedly ignored all explanations offered by him and descended heavily on him, inflicting severe bodily injuries before the timely intervention of the Police,” the statement added.

The victim was subsequently rushed to the Police Medical Services for treatment and is said to be responding to medical attention.

Meanwhile, the police disclosed that statements had been obtained from eyewitnesses, including an Okada rider allegedly injured during the chaos, while efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the mob action and destruction of property.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, strongly condemned jungle justice and the spread of unverified information on social media.

The police commissioner warned that “resorting to self-help, mob violence, and the circulation of misleading narratives on social media remain serious threats to public peace, law and order.”

He subsequently ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident and directed the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the attack.
