A 37-year-old man has died after jumping from a mobile phone tower in Artur Nogueira, in São Paulo state, Brazil.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, along Rua Antônio Cunha Claro in the Sacilotto II neighbourhood, where the man, identified as Weslley Xavier da Silva, climbed to the top of a telecommunications tower.
According to local media reports, emergency responders and security personnel were alerted to the incident at around 4 p.m. The Civil Guard, Military Police and Fire Department arrived at the scene and attempted to persuade him to come down safely.
Family members, including his mother and sister, also reportedly tried to convince him to descend from the structure. However, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Despite attempts by emergency personnel to resolve the situation, the man jumped from the tower. Rescue workers attended to him and rushed him to a local hospital, but he later died.
Other agencies, including the Civil Defence and municipal traffic department, also assisted at the scene.
His body was subsequently taken to the Medical Legal Institute (IML) in Americana for further examination. Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to the account, the travellers had spent the night at an undisclosed location before continuing their journey at about 4:30 a.m. The family said photographs and videos later circulated among them allegedly showed that the bus carrying Kehinde and other passengers had been taken.
The family claimed that three buses were travelling together, with one reportedly escaping while the occupants of the other buses were allegedly taken into the bush.

Mr Adeyemi was arraigned before Justice Muhammed Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
He is facing an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery.
The Federal Government alleges that he forged an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
He is also accused of forging presidential letterhead paper on 8 March 2024.
In counts one, two, three, four, six, seven and eight, the prosecution alleged that Mr Adeyemi and the two other defendants conspired to forge several official documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter, State House letterheads, a conveyance approval for the take-off of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), requests for approval of staff accounts and office space, and letters seeking collaboration with a federal ministry.
In count five, the prosecution alleged that Mr Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of PFIPC, an offence punishable under Section 179 of the Penal Code. Mr Adeyemi has denied the allegations.
He pleads ‘Not Guilty’ to all charges.

The incident followed growing tension after operators of the cheap food scheme reportedly disappeared, leaving residents who had paid money for food items stranded.
The development came after residents had gathered at the organisation’s office on Monday, waiting for the operators to resume operations and provide the food items they had paid for at prices below the prevailing market rates.
One resident, identified as Mistura, told Star Potter that she paid ₦300,000 last Wednesday for 11 bags of rice at ₦27,000 per bag.
According to her, customers were normally expected to collect their items one week after payment. She said purchasing the same quantity at the prevailing market price of about ₦55,000 per bag would have cost her ₦605,000.
Another resident, Olamide, said she paid ₦1.2 million for various food items intended for her stepdaughter’s forthcoming wedding.
She said she arrived at the office on Monday and met several other customers waiting, but the operators were nowhere to be found.
“I was warned, but I never thought they would run away this early. The items I paid for were meant for my stepdaughter’s wedding ceremony,” she said.
On Tuesday, more residents who had made payments returned to the office, hoping the operators would show up and address the situation.
Despite appeals from the building owner for the crowd to remain calm while security personnel worked to identify the operators and explore ways of recovering the money paid by customers, the protesters refused to leave.
At about 4pm, some members of the crowd reportedly forced their way into the warehouse and began removing food items, including bags of rice, noodles and groundnut oil.
Star Potter reports that the looting continued despite heavy rainfall, while a limited number of police officers at the scene struggled to control the crowd.

According to a video shared by Star Potter and circulated widely on social media, the business, located in the Odi-Olowo area of the state capital, attracted a large number of customers with discounted prices for items such as rice, cooking oil, spaghetti and semovita.
Customers were reportedly required to make payments upfront and return about a week later to pick up their food packages.
However, some customers who visited the premises on Monday morning to collect their orders were said to have met the shop locked, with the operators reportedly nowhere to be found.
A video obtained by Star Potter showed a large crowd gathered around the business premises, while some customers expressed concern over funds they had already paid.
A resident, Adabanija Sulaiman, who spoke with Star Potter but said he was not among the affected customers, said the development had caused considerable anxiety, particularly among those who paid substantial amounts.
He said some of the affected customers were considering staging a protest in an effort to recover their money.
Sulaiman attributed the popularity of the business to its unusually cheap prices, comparing the model to schemes where people are encouraged to make small investments with promises of greater returns.
He said, “It is like those people that will say you should come and invest with small money and get a large amount of money. They’re selling their food stuff at low prices, so many people have paid for them to buy it at low prices and resell at the normal prices of those products.”
He added that the customers were now worried after the operators allegedly disappeared with the money collected.
The sudden closure of the business has sparked questions about its operations and the whereabouts of the funds paid by customers.

Dangote confirms 2028 fertiliser IPO
Beyond the refinery, Dangote also confirmed that his fertiliser business will be taken public.
Asked whether the company would launch an IPO, he replied:
“Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, we will IPO it. It’s going to be the biggest fertilizer company on earth.”
Asked when, Dangote gave a clear timeline.
“Yes, it will be 2028.”
Dangote Fertiliser operates a $2.5 billion plant in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, with an annual capacity of about three million tonnes of urea.
The group plans to significantly expand its fertiliser production capacity, with a target of about 12 million tonnes annually by 2028, including planned expansion in Nigeria and a proposed plant in Ethiopia.

Akpabio spoke in a viral video after visiting the Prayer Ground of St. Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, where he said he embarked on what he described as a “slight pilgrimage” and spiritual journey.
He said his prayers covered Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council and Nigerians generally.
“Well, I had to go to Italy and, you know, Rome is the capital of the Catholic Church and the world’s capital when it comes to Christianity,” Akpabio said.
“From there I touched Saint Padre Pio Mazzolio and I did supplications. I prayed not just for the president, not just for myself, the vice president and all members of the Senate and National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council.
“I prayed for Nigeria as a whole and I also prayed against insecurity that God should free us from insecurity. I prayed against banditry. I prayed against terrorism.”
The Senate President said his decision was based on his Christian belief that efforts to protect the country also require divine intervention.
“And it might look funny but it’s the truth because in our own religion, we believe that unless God protects the house, the watchmen watch in vain,” he said.
“And so I decided to take this slight pilgrimage, a spiritual journey to pray for Nigeria. I believe strongly.”
The visit comes as Nigeria continues to face attacks, kidnappings and other forms of insecurity. Human Rights Watch said insecurity remained prevalent across the country in 2025, while ACLED continues to track violent incidents and militant activity in Nigeria in 2026.
In August, a mass kidnapping in Niger State involving hundreds of people prompted President Tinubu to order security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims.
More recently, Nigerian authorities began the trial of five suspected Ansaru members over alleged involvement in the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State, highlighting the continuing threat posed by militant groups.
Akpabio’s visit also comes ahead of the 2027 general elections. Reports on the trip said he prayed not only for an end to banditry and terrorism but also for peaceful elections.

The man expressed disappointment after discovering that his ₦20,000 investment had allegedly yielded only ₦5,332.50 in returns, according to his account.
‘I Used ₦20,000 to Buy This Share’
The man explained that he bought the Fidelity Bank shares about 18 years ago but had never checked how much he had made from the investment.
“I bought shares with a Fidelity Bank 18 years ago, and I have not checked how much I’ve made on this share. So I decided to go and check how much I have made on this share,” he said.
He recalled that he invested ₦20,000 at the time.
“I used N20,000 to buy this share 18 years ago. So, surprisingly, I went on 14th of September, 2026, this last week now they said what my share has given me is N5,332.50, what is it?” he stated.
‘For 18 Years, This Is What Fidelity Bank Has Given Me’
The man questioned the return on his investment, expressing surprise that the amount he was told he had earned was ₦5,332.50 after nearly two decades.
“For 18 years, this is what Fidelity Bank has given to me. And I was thinking, if I want to sell the share, they said I will sell the share for N20,000,” he said.
He then compared the investment with what he believed the same ₦20,000 could have been worth if it had been used to buy land 18 years ago.
‘The Value of That Land May Be Up to N2m or N5m’
The man argued that land purchased with the same amount years ago could have appreciated significantly.
“My people, in that 18 years ago, there is a place I can buy land of the same amount and up to date, the value of that land may be up to N2 million or even N5 million, if not more,” he stated.
He questioned the benefit of investing in shares based on his experience.
“So what is the essence of buying share?” he asked.
‘Tell Me What You Use My Money to Do’
The man also called on Fidelity Bank to explain what had happened to his investment over the years.
“Fidelity Bank, you people must tell me what you use my money to do, because you people have a good business,” he said.
He reiterated his disappointment over what he described as the poor return from his investment.
“For 18 years, what you have been able to give me is N5,332.50,” he added.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has commenced an investigation into the deaths of some suspected illegal miners arrested during enforcement operations in Niger State.
The suspects were arrested during coordinated operations conducted by the corps’ Niger State Command in the M.I. Wushishi/Lukoto axis on September 15 and 16, 2026, as part of efforts to curb illegal mining activities in the state.
The development comes amid reports that no fewer than 33 suspected illegal miners were feared dead after being detained at an NSCDC facility in Minna, the state capital.
The deaths were reportedly discovered in the early hours of Thursday, with the Niger State Commandant, Suberu Aniviye, attributing the deaths to a suspected disease outbreak.
However, the NSCDC National Headquarters said the cause of the deaths had yet to be established, stressing that claims linking them to a specific disease remained subject to medical and laboratory confirmation.
In a statement on Thursday, the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said the Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, had directed the constitution of a high-powered investigative team to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Afolabi said the team would be led by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Intelligence and Investigation.
He noted that the panel had been mandated to investigate the circumstances leading to the deaths, including the condition of the suspects upon arrest, their period in custody, the conditions of detention, medical attention provided and other relevant circumstances surrounding the incident.
The statement partly read, “NSCDC has confirmed the death of some suspected illegal miners who were arrested during enforcement operations conducted in parts of Niger State on September 15 and 16, 2026.
“Following the development, the Commandant General, Abubakar Audi, has directed the constitution of a high-powered investigative team, led by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Intelligence and Investigation, to immediately look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The team has been mandated to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances leading to the deaths, including the condition of the suspects upon arrest, their period in custody, the conditions of detention, medical attention provided, and other relevant circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Audi also directed that the health and welfare of all persons currently in custody be given priority, while measures were being taken to protect personnel who might have had contact with the affected persons.
The Corps expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them that the circumstances surrounding the incident would be thoroughly investigated and appropriately addressed based on facts.
“The NSCDC wishes to clarify that reports attributing the deaths to any specific disease remain subject to medical and laboratory confirmation. The Corps will, therefore, refrain from speculation until the outcome of the medical examination is established.
“The Corps extends its condolences to the families of the deceased and assures them that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be thoroughly investigated and appropriately addressed based on established facts, ” Afolabi said.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has commenced its public offer on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), with 4.1 billion new ordinary shares available to investors at N525 each.
Dangote Industries Limited President and Chief Executive Officer, Aliko Dangote, formally opened the offer on Monday by ringing the opening bell at the NGX trading floor in Lagos.
The N2.15 trillion offer marks the first time a refinery is being offered to investors on the Nigerian stock market in the NGX’s 66-year history.
The offer is open to retail and institutional investors, as well as eligible investors across Africa. Individuals can subscribe for a minimum of 10 shares, requiring N5,250 at the offer price.
The offer opened on September 14, 2026, and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026, subject to the terms and conditions contained in the prospectus.
Dangote calls it ‘People’s IPO’
Speaking at the ceremony, Dangote described the offer as a move to expand public participation in the ownership of companies under the Dangote Group.
“We fully share all our prosperity with the people. That’s why we call this ‘People’s IPO’. We know the journey has actually just started.
“It’s not only about the refinery,” he said.
Dangote also disclosed that the group plans to list more of its companies on the Nigerian Exchange.
“We, as a group, will list every single company that will operate,” he said.
He added that the group could pursue listings on other international exchanges from Nigeria, while describing the country and Africa as the foundation of its expansion.
“From this exchange, then we can go to any other place.
“So, Nigeria and Africa is our base. We want to make sure that we join our continent,” Dangote said.
Major milestone for Nigeria’s capital market
The public offer allows Nigerians and other eligible investors to acquire an equity stake in the Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos.
The refinery has been positioned as a major project in Nigeria’s effort to expand domestic refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
The ceremony was attended by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, President and Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Umaru Kwairanga, Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Zenith Bank founder Jim Ovia, and other business and capital market leaders.
