During plenary today, the senate deliberated on the current Fuel scarcity and one particular Senator suggested that President Buhari, who is also the Minister of Petroleum resources, should be summoned to the Senate to explain why the fuel scarcity has persisted. Should they or Should they not invite him? Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, a PDP senator representing Abia South in the senate today asked that the House summon President Buhari who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum resources to come and explain why there's fuel scarcity in the country right now. Abaribe said that since Buhari is the Minister in charge of Nigeria's Petroleum resources, he should be made to answer all questions bothering on that sector. President Buhari and the state Minister for Petroleum resources Ibe Kachiukwu are currently in Iran attending the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries' Forum (GECF). They are however expected back to the country November 24th. |
When it comes to a woman’s beauty, the appearance of ageing is a huge concern. I know some friends of mine struggle with fine lines already and they really are not happy about it, just like a lot of you. But there are many things you can do in order to prevent the early signs of ageing, and even things you can do now to slow down the inevitable. Thankfully I had someone who shared with me early enough, the things to do when it comes to ageing, and I’d love to share them with you. I hope you find this helpful as I share tips on what causes ageing, how to avoid them for long enough, when you should start anti-ageing treatments, and how to treat signs of ageing. Enjoy! When should you start ageing prevention ? Preventing ageing is something that is fairly unknown to many people, buy slathering moisturizing creams, lotions & scrubs on your face when you already have wrinkles and other signs of ageing, won’t offer much help. This is why you should never wait until you’re past the point of getting wrinkles before doing something about them. You should start taking preventive measures against ageing at the very least at the age of 28. When you turn 28, your skin is still young enough to withstand wrinkles, and starting an anti-ageing regime at this point helps keep wrinkles away for longer. What causes signs of ageing? There are actually many different elements in our environment that affect the way our skin matures. Not only are there outside influences, but genetics also plays a large role in this as well. 1. Dryness: The main thing that causes signs of ageing is dryness. Many people have very dry skin and they don’t even know it – especially those with very oily skin. This may sound weird, but even people with oily skin can have dry skin, because most of the oils you see on the surface is overcompensation for the dryness of your skin. The Fix: Keep your skin moisturized at all times. Always apply a moisturizer after washing your face (and toning) in order to reverse the dryness of your cleanser. I know first-hand that whenever my skin even remotely gets wet, the skin starts to feel tight and dry afterwards. Locking in moisture not only keeps your skin looking supple, but it also helps your skin cells become rejuvenated. 2. Harsh Chemicals: Unfortunately, many of the harsh chemicals that are in cleansers nowadays do a number on the health of your skin – and not in a good way! These chemicals often strip your face of the natural oils used in preventing wrinkles, and leave it dry and damaged! The Fix: Some chemicals are absolutely beneficial for your skin – I’ll be the first to tell you that. But what I’ve found that works best is using products that are mostly natural and only use chemicals that are designed for a specific purpose. For me Retinol is my go-to ingredient in any anti-ageing product I use. 3. Smoking: This is also a really big part of early ageing for many women. The amount of toxins found in cigarettes can cause so many wrinkles, and that is a leading cause of women looking older than they actually are. The Fix: Quit! It’s as simple as that. 4. Alcohol: As much as we all love our wine nights, alcohol has a big impact on ageing us. It is extremely dehydrating, and hydration is so important in keeping your skin looking younger. The Fix: Keep your drinking under control. I’m definitely not saying stop drinking altogether because let’s be real, that’s just not going to happen! Limiting yourself to only drinking a few glasses a week, and only drinking in excess every once in a while, will ensure that alcohol will have little effect on the ageing of your skin. 5. The Sun: Although you probably are aware of this already, the sun can cause early signs of ageing. When you get sun burns, it causes your skin to work hard in order to protect itself – which eventually wear down your protective barrier. Not just that, it also dries out your skin. The Fix: Avoiding the sun is just not an option, clearly. The best way to prevent this kind of damage is to wear SPF on your face every day. I wear sunscreen every single day of my life, and I try not to wear anything less than SPF50. How to treat signs of ageing Moisturize The best way to really combat your wrinkles is to moisturize your skin. And I’m not just talking about topically, either. Moisture starts from within. Drinking lots of water a day will work miracles on your skin and you’ll notice a difference within a week! Face Masks Face masks that are meant to tone and tighten your skin are a great option. One mask that I’ve found to work particularly well is an egg white mask with lemon. Mix egg whites in a bowl and add lemon juice, then apply a thin layer to your face. Once dry (it’ll feel tight) just rinse off with Luke-warm water. The egg will firm your skin and the lemon will give you a bright, radiant youthful glow! Exfoliation This includes both manual and chemical exfoliation. Another way to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines is by exfoliating. You can either exfoliate manually or chemically. The difference is that manual exfoliation has to do with literally scrubbing dead skin cells off your face with a facial scrub, and chemical exfoliation is when you use products that contain certain kinds of acids like Glycolic acid, that break down dead skin cells and leave you with a glow. *** That’s about it! So guys, make sure you take things seriously and start early to slow down the process of ageing. This way, when you’re in your 50’s you’ll be living proof that ‘Age is nothing but a number’. Till next time! |
Life as we all know evolves in stages. From birth, we begin the process of aging. All things being equal, majority of us will grow old. Thus it will be apt to say that aging is inevitable for us. So why do we as a society pay the least attention to this process. What kind of welfare system should we have in order to adequately take care of our aged, (The old people in our society/parents or relatives) especially the ones we love. For three years before my father passed, he was never paid his pension. My mum is going through the same thing. I keep wondering, what if the financial or emotional means to take care of them was lacking, they probably will be like some of our aged pensioners who probably die standing in line waiting for their pension that never came. I am of the opinion we are not doing enough as a society. It is deplorable that so many people work and expend all their energy and when they become old, there’s no one to really take care of them. In one episode of my radio show (Talk Junction), we talked about the need for parents to ensure that they bond with their children because we believe that children who have a close bond with their parents are the ones most likely to take charge and care of them in their old age. That’s the way society is meant to evolve. we as children should be the ones to look after our parents, yes it is the African way. They slaved and spent all their lives looking after us so it is expected that we in return should take care of them. My parents lived with me for several years after their retirement. My widowed mum is 97 years old and I can’t imagine her living anywhere else but with me. Being the primary caregiver and living again under the same roof with your parents is an enormous role reversal. Most of us living with aged parents find it difficult to balance our own busy schedules with looking after an aged parent so much so that sometimes it could be misconstrued as not caring. For some, it could be that the global financial mess, has left us thinking about self and our survival only. But this piece is about those who can but don’t want to. I am of the opinion that not just government but also the corporate bodies need to focus more on developing policies that protect this age bracket. In more developed society it is very easy to see a nursing home systems that caters to the old people but how effective can that be in our country. This is a place where most pensioners can’t even get access to their pension after retirement. Corruption has eaten so deep into our various systems that even the basic are not provided by the system. For me nursing homes are so impersonal and that is not our culture in Africa. For people like us who don’t have the benefits of earning any pension, we are on our own. God forbid that in our old age we become either a liability to our children or worse still, a liability to ourselves. We have all seen the antecedents of government towards the aged and until a miracle happens, I’m not sure that will change anytime soon. I have never worked for anyone so what I’ve done is that through all the years, I have consistently put aside a monthly savings in a fixed account on regular basis which I haven’t touched for over 30 years despite sometimes my financial hardship. Planing, saving and discipline is the key to making the twilight years of our lives easier. A lot of people wake up to the reality that after years of service, they don’t have much to show for it and that can lead to bitterness in old age. My summary on this will be to advice all of us to learn to cultivate the habit of saving for this phase of our life’s. We must imbibe the attitude of saving for the rainy day and our old age is the rainy day. One day, we as parents won’t be able to drive, to climb stairs, or maybe even change our own clothes or feed ourselves. As painful as thinking about this might be, we need to prepare for our comfort and safety in the last stages of our lives. My prayer for us parents is to have children who will keep us company in our old age maybe take care of us with love and anything else |

We should be less concerned about Mama Awolowo who has already died and completed her own race, we should be more concerned about how our own race will end when we die Heaven or Hell ?. May we not be found wanting on the last day. Amen. |
Well done DPR , this is a very good innovation that will help reduce scarcity in the long run. Petrol Stations keep hoarding fuel to sell later on at exorbitant rates. |
Kelly Fotor, the leader of the armed robbery gang that robbed some commercial banks at Agbara Housing Estate in Ogun state last week Thursday, has revealed that his gang stole N28 million from the banks they raided. Kelly, a native of Arugbo in Ondo state, was arrested on Saturday at a wedding in Sapele. He said he and his gang members were formerly sea pirates before regrouping to form a robbery gang. He said one of them named Ossy who is the leader of pipeline vandals in Arepo and Ikorodu, controlled the South West operations of the gang while he, Kelly, controlled the South South operations of the gang. He revealed that his gang was responsible for the recent robbery incidents in Festac, Lekki and Ikorodu areas in Lagos state. "I and my group got N14 million share from the Agbara operation, while, Ossy and his group got N14 million. I left Lagos by waters that day after that operation with my men back to Igbokoda, Ondo State, where we shared the money and everyone got his share of the loot. It was Ossy’s men who usually pick out our targets. They were the ones who picked out all the targets, my job was to give support and my boat is very big and my boat boy is a professional and knows his way around the water very well,” he told Vanguard Kelly also revealed how his gang members killed 9 operatives of the Department of State Service in September. According to him, the DSS operatives had stormed their hide out in Ikorodu where they had kept a woman who they kidnapped in early September i Festac town "One of our boys who was heavily drunk met us while we were interrogating the suspects after we captured them and he opened fire on them. I was at their camp at Ikorodu when the DSS operatives were captured and they brought them before me and Ossy and they knelt down and we interrogated them, but that guy, he was Ossy’s man. He was very drunk, walked in and without asking questions opened fire on all of them and killed them. Neither myself nor Ossy ordered their killing, we never wanted to kill them,” he said |
I heard the word ‘parody’ for the first time when I wrote a highly opinionated article for a top personal development blog in the U.S earlier this year. Just like I expected, some of the blog readers felt threatened and they asked for my head. Others thought the article was a parody so they kept their cool. That article wasn’t a parody, but this one is. So please don’t crucify me in the comment section. Rather, relax and enjoy my first real attempt at parody. Below is my tongue-in-cheek list of seven things every not-yet married woman does not deserve. A flourishing career Please, please and please, you do not have any business looking for a job, let alone keeping one. Your major reason for existence is to get married and bear someone’s children. This purpose should not be jeopardized for any reason. Fine, we can tolerate you having and keeping a job, but please, why on earth should you aim for a promotion? Why should you even desire a raise? This is the main reason you are no longer focused on your single major purpose: getting married. Resign if you have to. Reject that promotion too. You do not deserve to have a flourishing career, period. Wanna know why? Of course it is because you are not yet married, durrh. Happiness in any form What the heck are you smiling at? What on earth is the reason behind those 32 set of white teeth I see you flashing around? Listen up babe; you do not deserve to be happy if you have not yet said ‘I do’. You should be sad, perpetually crying, and mourning your miserable not-yet-married state. Save all that smile, laughter and joy for the day you finally get married. Until then, you shouldn’t be happy, period. A car Are you fu**ing kidding me? Who on earth told you to buy a car? Listen up babe; I’m here to tell you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Sell that car or give it out immediately. You are single goddamnit! It doesn’t matter where you are working (why on earth are you even working? Please read the first point again), it doesn’t matter how much you earn too. You don’t deserve to even learn how to drive a car till you get married. And the same goes for any other ‘luxury’ like flying or travelling abroad. Investments, especially landed properties. Did I just hear you say you want to buy a property? Jeez! What is wrong with you! Are you married? No! Then No, you shouldn’t make that investment! I don’t even know how you managed to have all that money in the first place. Or did you not read the first point about you not having a flourishing career? Fine let’s assume you have already broken that all important rule, but please don’t make things worse by investing that money. What you should do is keep it in an account and finally wait for the lucky dude that will come and rescue you from your not-yet married state. For marrying and rescuing you, he deserves to be rewarded with all your savings. A second degree or any form of advanced learning. Wait a minute sister; have you completely lost your mind? Did you just say you want to get a second degree and do a professional course? Oh, you even want to do it abroad? Are you crazy? Is it not bad enough that you even got a first degree without getting married? The problem is that you have not yet understood that getting married is the sole reason for your existence. If you did, you would not consider any form of higher learning until it happens. Your own apartment Oh my God! Someone should wake me up from this nightmare. You wanna rent your own apartment when you haven’t gotten married? Wait, you even want to buy the house? My dear, e be like say dem dey follow you from village o! If your parents don’t live in the same town with you, squat with a relative. I don’t care if it takes you three hours to get to work, bear it gallantly like an honourable single woman that understands her purpose. Any form of luxury or celebration. You just celebrated your birthday last week, and you had fun, abi? You then went further to buy a plasma TV and an accompanying home theater set. As if those are not enough, you are even using a tablet and an expensive phone. Listen up dear; if John Lewis or Mark Spencer is not your husband’s name, you shouldn’t be wearing his shoe or using his handbag. You should be managing life until your ‘knight in starched agbada’ comes to rescue you. Lastly, are there other things you think I left out? Let’s discuss in the comment section. In case you missed the introduction, this is a parody. It’s a tongue-in-cheek article with an exaggerated form of sarcasm. My conclusion: I believe and preach that life is meant to be lived and not existed in. That means that nothing should stop you from living your best life at any point in time. Waiting for a perfect time, condition or person before you give your best shot at life is an anomalous anathema. Don’t fall for that trap. Live your best life now! |
I and my boyfriend have been in a relationship for two years and some months. A year of it was long distance and two months after I came back to Nigeria, he proposed. I’m a believer in dating someone for maybe 3-4 years before you decide to fully commit so you can really know the person in and out. My boyfriend is not the type to cheat but has major anger issues – he can be petty, unforgiving and vindictive. We have done our traditional wedding and it’s about two months to the white. I’m worried that I entered this relationship too soon because I haven’t even entered the marriage and I am scared of going in. All I do is cry and pray. Most of the time, he is so disrespectful and all I do is walk on eggshells so there is peace. We have already been to counseling (both church and social) and it still remains the same. Please what do I do? I need real advice, please no insults. |
Diezani Alison-Madueke, former petroleum minister, who is undergoing treatment for cancer in London, has said that Nigeria has a well recorded history of maligning its oil ministers. The former minister in the interview granted to the Dele Momodu’s Boss Newspaper, stated that even President Muhammadu Buhari as an oil minister (1976-1978) under then head of state, Olusegun Obasanjo was blamed for N2.8 billion scam when same amount gone from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corpration’s (NNPC) Midlands Bank account in the UK. Diezani said: “Everyone agrees that Muhammadu Buhari is a man of unquestionable character and impeccable pedigree yet it was alleged that N2.8billion vanished under his nose. Fela even sang about this humongous disappearance. Till this day no one has been able to prove that the then Major General Buhari stole a kobo.” She also listed other ex-ministers who have been belittled to include Prof. Tam David West. Ex-oil minister announced that the allegations of corruption against her are fake, restating that as a technocrat with necessary experience at Shell, she was used to keeping proper accounts. Alison suggested that during her time as a petroleum boss she knew she stepped on some powerful toes both home and abroad just to ensure that Nigerians got the best agreement. Diezani was oil minister under ex-president Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 until earlier this year when he was defeated in polls by Muhammadu Buhari. Former minister had previously been blamed for large-scale fraud in the management of the country’s multi-billion-dollar oil wealth but denied any wrong-doing. Muhammadu Buhari swore in his 36-member cabinet and appointed himself as the head of powerful Petroleum Ministry on November 11, Wednesday. |

The Lagos State Government has warned Lagosians against eating exhumed and contaminated chicken that are in circulation within the state as they pose a serious health risk to everyone. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Toyin Suarau, said some imported poultry products that are contaminated were seized by the Nigeria Customs Service in Badagry and buried but were later exhumed by some people who planned to sell them to unsuspecting members of the public. Suarau disclosed this on Saturday while receiving officials of the National Orientation Agency who came to inform Lagosians about the dangers of consuming the contaminated food. The commissioner said the imported poultry produce was preserved with chemicals like formalin which was poisonous, adding that it could lead to slow death. Suarau said the poisonous products were not as nutritious as freshly processed poultry meat because imported poultry meat had been preserved for months and years with dangerous chemicals. |
A former Super Falcons player, Vera Okolo has revealed how the female team was unfairly treated during the 2004 African Women’s Championship in South Africa. The former Delta Queens player, whose lone strike secured an Olympic ticket for the Super Falcons at the expense of the Bayana Bayana, revealed how she laboured hard on the field to help Nigeria secure a win. She also revealed players had to avoid exchanging jerseys after matches because they were provided with only two white kits and one green kit during tournaments. The former striker said Nigerians in South Africa came to the players’ rescue in South Africa when it became known that they were being maltreated and not paid match bonuses. She thanked the former president Olusegun Obasanjo for coming to the team’s rescue by giving them N1m each for their efforts in South Africa. Speaking to the Vanguard, Vera Okolo revealed that her father disowned her when she made her intention to play football known to her family. |
There are indications that Real Madrid coach, Rafeal Benitez may have just witnessed his last game in charge following a 4-0 thumping against league leader FC Barcelona in the 171st edition of the Clasico in La Liga. According to Spanish Football Expert & Columnist, Guillem Balague, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will “probably get rid of” manager Rafa Benitez after the 4-0 whitewash against Barcelona at the Bernabeu. The La Liga champions ran riot at the home of their rivals yesterday, November 21, with goals from Neymar, Luis Suarez (2) and Andres Iniesta putting them six points above Real in the Spanish table. With a dismal performance in front of their home fans, Balague believes there is impatience at the club and Real will most likely soon be looking for a 12th permanent manager this century. Balague said: “There is no way whatsoever that this kind of performance – we’re not even talking about the result – but the performance will have no consequences. It has to have consequences. That’s how Real Madrid works. “That means of course that Florentino Perez will probably get rid of the manager, and if that’s the case, what is next? Yet another manager. “This is a problem for Real Madrid that will not change unless the whole idea and whole philosophy changes. “The business plan is brilliant – they’re very, very rich. The football plan is very poor, and under Florentino Perez they have won one league in seven years, which suggests that his idea of putting big names on the pitch does not work. “Of course, Rafa is not the only one to blame, but it’s almost much easier to get rid of the manager.” However, Benitez admitted after the match that Real were “hurting”, but stressed: “We have lost three points in La Liga and nothing more.” Speaking with AS after his side’s defeat, the Spaniard said he will accept partial responsibility for the defeat adding that the players have to take some blame too. “I try to manage my group the best I can. In this case the players have enough quality to do better,” he told AS. “In the end we are all responsible and we must look for a solution as a group and to give joy to the fans. “I think in the opening minutes of the second half we went forward and had chances. It’s not the time to analyse individual mistakes. We must reflect, be together. “We made mistakes and we paid against a team that has top quality. We lost the ball against the opposition. It’s important to recover as a group. “We wanted to push forward, to attack, to get the ball forward and we paid for not recovering. We wanted to use players with personality but it hasn’t gone well. “Our idea was to squeeze possession and to take advantage of having players with experience. “It’s not a question of attitude. We talked about improving at half time. We faced a good team. The chance for Marcelo was a key point. If that had been a goal, we could have gotten into the game. We paid for our mistakes and it was increasingly difficult. “Whenever we win or lose we are all part of it and obviously it hurts a lot to lose and to lose this way. I worry about the team recovering emotionally for the next game.” Benitez had lost just once in his first 15 games in charge of Real Madrid before last night’s defeat against. He is under mounting pressure despite only taking charge in June and former player Zinedine Zidane, Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho top the list of those lined up as possible replacement at Real Madrid. |

The 24-year-old suspect Abdullai Umar was arrested on a routine patrol around Abiola Garden in Ojota by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). Police preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a member of a gang who were disguised as scavengers and hid arms in their truck. I am ready to cooperate with the police to arrest other members of the gang.” The RRS boss said that the police would go after the fleeing members of the robbery syndicate and added that the arrested suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. In a another case of robbery, a gang attacked a new generation bank in Kogi and got away with N2m. The robbers killed two policemen and two members of staff at the bank. |
The family of Paris terror mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud declared yesterday he should have been ‘burnt to death’. In the Moroccan hamlet where his father Omar was born, they have only just heard of the massacre he organised, leaving 129 dead. But their verdict was immediate: Abaaoud had no rightful place on this earth. ‘We rejoice the news he is dead. He deserved it,’ said Sayeed Abaaoud, a cousin of the killer and a village elder and patriarch of the clan. ‘I say he should have been burnt to death, because what he did was not allowed under Islam or any law.’ A police source said Moroccan intelligence had tipped off the French government about Abaaoud. He was killed alongside Hasna Ait Boulahcen, his 26-year-old cousin, who blew herself up. He had been thought to have planned the massacre from Syria until intelligence placed him in Paris for Friday’s attacks. Father-of-eight Sayeed, 65, said: ‘It is terrible, just terrible. I know it happened a week ago, but we only just heard about what Abdelhamid did, on Moroccan radio. We don’t have TV. Sayeed said: ‘We feel very upset by the whole thing. Real Muslims do not do what Abdelhamid did. A good Muslim doesn’t steal or hurt people, so he is not a Muslim.’ The Islamic State killer’s death at the hands of French anti-terrorist police was confirmed yesterday. The 27-year-old was shot in the head by a sniper then hit by grenades during the raid in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis on Wednesday. He had to be identified by his saliva. |
The Super Eagles defeated Swaziland 2 – 0 in Port-Harcourt in the second leg of the 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier after playing a goalless draw in the first leg played in Lombamba. While the first leg did not excite fans, the second leg surely did because Nigeria came out victorious. There are few disappointments like Rabiu Ibrahim who was brought in at half-time for Sylvester Igbonu in the first leg only to be brought off after 20 mins on the pitch. It was discovered that, the player was hiding an ankle injury which limited his influence in that game. Mikel Obi had an average game in the first leg and was expected to start the second leg but was dropped in favour of Paul Onobi of Sunshine Stars of Akure who brought more steel to the Eagles midfield. Captain Ahmed Musa was below par though he showed flashes of his real quality through his speed and dazzling runs. Naij.com names the five players who impressed Super Eagles fans the most in the two-legged 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier against Swaziland. Moses Simon Daddy: He is Nigeria’s most interesting player in the two legged matches. Moses scored a spectacular free-kick in the second leg which makes the 20-year-old look like a world class player. The Gent attacker has taken a while to break into the squad but has proved himself worthy during the two legs. Sylvester Igboun: He is not yet a household name in Nigerian football, Igboun showed in the second leg against Swaziland that he can be be a good link between midfield and attack. In the first leg, he tried to play Mesut Ozil kind of no.10 role but later reverted to the classic link between midfield and attack for Nigeria. His performance reminiscent of Angel Di Maria’s last season at Real Madrid where coach Carlo Anceloti moved him from the wings to midfield. African Guardiola, Sunday Oliseh repeated the trick and got good results. The midfielder needs to work on his finishing though. Carl Ikeme: Though he did not have much to do in the two games, Ikeme made two crucial saves in each match against Swaziland. He has already warmed the hearts of Nigerians with his reflexes and ability to come out of his box to clear dangers. In the second leg against Swaziland Ikeme showed good height and reflex to tip a lob over the bar. Before the game, the keeper said he was surprised how Nigerian fans were passionate about football, he would have gotten the right answer after the full time whistle when fans stormed the pitch to celebrate with the players. Paul Onobi: The name of everyone’slips after that second leg. The Sunshine Stars of Akure man has always had the quality but never the recognition it deserved. While teammates like Prince Aggreh and Ezennawa impressed Oliseh with their all action displays in the league, Onobi patiently went about his game. He chipped in with a few goals too. Onobi was hailed by fans and pundits alike for the way he recycyle the ball in midfield. Ogenyi Onazi is not an anchor man (the first leg proved it to be right again), he plays better as a box to box midfielder (in the mould of Ramires of Chelsea). Paul Onobi proved to be a good anchor man. Former coach Sunday Oliseh realized this which led to call ups for the likes of Fegor Ogude, Raheem Lawal but Oliseh seems to have found his man in Onobi. Even the Swaziland coach Harries Bulungu had to praise the decision to bring in Onobi for Mikel Obi, saying the change probably gave Nigeria the platform to win. Efe Ambrose: Finally playing in his preferred position at center-back for the Super Eagles, Ambrose has reproduced his best form for the country. Ambrose was used at right-back by Stephen Keshi but Oliseh has made the shift to center back for the Celtic defender. By far the best defender in the two legs against Swaziland, Ambrose showed good positioning but would probably need to work on his anticipation. Who to be chosen to partner him in center defense in the long tern is a question open to debate. |

What exactly is safe to eat these days? All you have to do is Google a particular food type. No, Google is too far. Right on your Facebook timeline, BBM and Whatsapp broadcast messages…in fact every avenue on social media presents a long list of reasons why you should be very wary of consuming rice, eggs, fries, instant noodles, white bread and most pastries, beef, palm oil, groundnut oil, sugar, salt, eba, fufu, even wheat has now attracted the fury of the food prefects. This is the same wheat that was hailed the hero of low sugar foods some years ago and recommended by medical doctors to those on a low- sugar diet. It has basically become poison, if the viral online articles are to be believed. The list is in exhaustive if you can think it, then it is on #thelist. It turns out that food, and in particular Nigerian staples, is a major contributor to many health issues today: obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, fibroids e.t.c. Once the doctor prescribes drugs to manage these illnesses, he includes an accompanying catalog of foods to avoid in order to prevent a recurrence. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) upped the ante by including processed meats such as bacon, ham and sausage alongside cigarettes as a major cause of cancer, effectively placing cured and processed meats in the same category as asbestos, alcohol, arsenic and tobacco. Scary! I am naturally choosy about certain foods but those I do eat, I ensure I consume them well and in sizeable quantities however in doing this I am also very conscious of the health risks involved. My octogenarian grandmother, on the other hand, eats just about anything she desires without being mindful of the said calories, gluten or sugar. She believes that death would eventually come soon enough, so why deprive herself of delicacies on earth which she is not sure of getting in heaven. However, she is 84 and has lived majority of her life already so I will respectfully derail from her food-related choices. The more moderate adherents of the fitfam movement educate us that those food groups we learnt about in school, the carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, fats and oils, proteins are proper components of a healthy diet. The emphasis should be on portion control. The older you get, the less active you are and therefore your body’s need for carbs reduce or else it gets converted into fat somewhere in the body. So they recommend a fistful of rice, eba, fufu accompanied by a bowlful of vegetables with some fruits to aid digestion along the way. The time you eat is also of essence, they say heavier meals should be consumed during the day so there is ample time for it to digest. Also, the more physical activities you engage in during the day the better for your metabolism examples include climbing the stairs rather than taking the elevator, parking your vehicle a little far away from your destination so you can walk a bit is also encouraged (just ensure you have an eye on your car wherever it is parked). The fact that we all want to live long, healthy lives informs the current trend of extreme caution when it comes to foods consumed. As with any other issue in life, compromise and moderation is the watchword. So what foods have you given up in a bid to be healthy? Have you been able to strike a balance between portions especially as regards carbs and fruits/vegetables? Please share principles which have worked, you could just be saving a life. |
A big congrats to her, the house is tastefully furnished. |
Kudos to the LASTMA TEAM, it shows that no one is above the law, hopefully this will teach the masses on how to abide with traffic rules and regulations especially the use of BRT. Just thinking aloud, are the emergency medical buses and fire service men allowed to ply the BRT route in case of an emergency? |
Imagine it’s 30 minutes to the beginning of wedding reception, the Bridal party is about to walk in and guess what? There is no wedding cake, unbelievable right? Wedding planning can become a very overwhelming. The Bride, most especially, has dreamt of this day for years and prays that everything goes perfectly. However, despite the dreaming, hopes and planning, the vendors selected to work to achieve these goals can make or mar the event. We’ve all been to weddings were things started going uncontrollably askew. How and why did all go desperately wrong? Decisions play a major role to the build up of events on the wedding day. The couple or brides have to decide to use person A and not person B, despite the fact they have heard great reviews about the vendor. Sometimes the couple or bride are limited with options as a result of location, impending external factors, budgets e.t.c, so what you see is what you take. At other times emotional ties are involved; vendor has been in the family for years (although they are not the quality you desire) just have to go with them anyway! Lack of experience also makes all these decision making very difficult so couples or brides usually have to rely on recommendations from various sources to make the final choices regarding who to work with to make their wedding dreams become a near perfect reality. Take Recommendations Lightly Yes, word of mouth is the best form of marketing. A friend’s recommendation would always be trusted and come in handy. However, selecting a vendor is not one size fits all situations. Thus, no one caterer, MC, Dessert maker, Decorator, even Event planner is perfect for everyone. When selecting a vendor compatibility is very important. We do not all have same taste and temperament as the person whose recommendations you are using, so it is wise to proceed with caution. Family and Friends May not Always Be Relied On Family and friends have been with you all and most of your life. They have been great support banks, providing love and friendship. You have counted on them for some things, so there is no problem doing so now? No necessarily so! Their opinions may be biased; also your budget and theirs are not the same. So they may have used a particular vendor because that was within their budget. However, your taste and budget are different, so if their recommendations may not be the best for you. In situations where you have to rely on family and friends, let their recommendations be clear and be specific to your needs and wants. Venue Preferred Vendor List Most event venues will have a list of preferred vendor lists for their prospective clients to select from. These vendors are familiar with the property and can ensure that your event will run more smoothly as a result. These venues also put together such a list because they understand that indecision can often lead to missed deadlines, which can create unnecessary chaos when planning such a timely event. These lists can offer both reliable insight and comfort when making the final decision of whom to hire. You can ask the venue manager about their experience with them. Questions about how they treat people behind the scenes and if they handle stress well can tell you a lot. With a photographer, though, the first time at a location can bring some energy and creativity. Someone who’s seeing a space with fresh eyes may bring more spontaneity than a photographer who’s already shot the same backdrop for 10 other couples. Request to Have a Chat with Recent Clients Once your vendors list is edited and finally complied, it is advisable to request speaking with a few couples they have worked with in the past year. Listening to a past client speak of the vendor would further provide confidence in the vendor or highlight areas where you may find that the vendor needs to be changed. Take Notes of Your First Impressions At every point at this stage of your life/wedding planning, taking notes is no longer a big deal. When meeting with potential vendors, be aware of how they deal with your initial contact. This is how they react, response speed and how they conduct themselves. Watch out keenly for every remark to ensure you get both the open and under tones. Do Not Be Tied Up with Your Own Style You have carried on with your style for the most part of your life. So be bold and go beyond the boundaries of the style that you are used. This would be applied during your vendor selection by seeking for a diverse portfolio. This should not compromise on quality. You can go from always wearing sleeveless, to trying out a three-quarter sleeves, not wearing makeup, to wearing makeup, wearing fit and flare gowns to straight cuts e.t.c. Hire People Who Accept Your Budget Whether you are planning for a N500,000 or N50 million Naira wedding, find a team that will work creatively within your budget. They should be able to suggest excellent and affordable alternatives. Know where to get the best deals for the best prices and great quality for less Seek Team Players You want to collaborate with someone who will listen and create an event that isn’t just beautiful but reflects you two as a couple. Your team should be persons that understand what you want; they can go under your skin to make your thoughts a reality. The right vendor will create moments where your guests think, “This is so Amaka and Akin!” Destination Wedding Planners If planning a destination wedding, relying on a destination professional can relieve you of hidden (and not so hidden) costs and angst regarding local vendors. For example, photographers: If you bring your own you may need him/her to arrive a day or two before to get familiar with the location and light. However, the destination pro will likely have a list of locals who already are totally familiar with these critical issues, saving you time and money. Walk Away, Don’t be Afraid When you’re not happy with a vendor, wait until you can articulate your concerns in a non-emotional way. Express the problem, and then ask for a solution. Depending on how they react, it may make sense to part ways. If you have a contract, you’ll likely have to pay a fee, but it may be worth it to move on to someone who’s a better fit. |

There is anxiety over the renewed agitation for Biafra by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB). According to The Nation report, the tension is fuelled by the aggressive manner the agitators have been “brainwashing” young people to join the movement. People are worried that if it is not curtailed, it may transform into another form of terrorism that would compound the problems Nigeria is facing such as kidnapping, armed robbery and other anti-social activities. The pro-Biafra agitators have carried out a number of protests in the past one week. An Igbo leader who spoke on the issue, said it is risky to openly talk about the Biafra group as you’ll be taken as enemy against their agitation. “The truth is that there is nothing positive about what they are doing. They are opportunists and relevance- seeking people who are misleading unsuspecting youths to take to an unworthy cause,” he said. Report has it that the pro-Biafra agitators have started recruiting young people to join the movement in various parts of the country. This was confirmed by Ikedigwe Raphael, an IPOB coordinator in Lagos state. He said: “IPOB is divided into groups A and B. Group A comprises Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River, while group B comprises Anambra, Enugu, Delta and Ebonyi. We regard any other state, region or zone not captured in the aforementioned groups in the country as a zoo. “The protests will continue until the director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, is released. Benjamin Onwuka of Biafran Zion Movement (BZM) and others currently arrested should also be released.” Igbo traders and commercial motorcycle operators have been reportedly recruited in Lagos. A commercial motorcycle operator disclosed that they were taught various songs during a training conducted by the leaders of the agitators. “The high point of the protest will occur in December when we will travel home en masse to hold a mass protest. The arrangement is concluded and all we are waiting for is the right time to strike,” he stated. Emeka Okafor, the zonal leader of MASSOB said that Ndigbo are fully aware of the implication of secessionist agitation, stressing that a pogrom is already taking place in the northern part of the country where he said Ndigbos are being targeted for mass killing. According to two leading members of IPOB in Anambra state, Osita Amaechina and Obinna Remigus Ani, their interest was to actualise Biafra like Southern Sudan, Eritrea and others, which was the reason they were non-violent. Speaking on Friday, November 13, the new defence minister, Monsur Dan-Ali said the pro-Biafra agitation in parts of the South-East may escalate and constitute a threat to national unity if it is not checked. Meanwhile, Chief Godswill Akpabio, the Senate minority leader condemned the fresh agitation for the creation of the sovereign state of Biafra. He called on parents and community leaders in the southeast and south-south regions of the country to ensure that they caution and educate their wards on the negative implication of their actions. |
The Union of European football (UEFA) yesterday announced that EURO 2016 will still be hosted by France come June next year despite the terror attacks that occurred in the Country last weekend. "The EURO final draw will go ahead as scheduled on 12 December at the Palais des Congres in Paris and the final tournament will be played in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016," UEFA said in a statement on Tuesday (AEDT). "Following the dramatic events that occurred last Friday in Paris, UEFA and EURO 2016 SAS wish to reaffirm their commitment in placing safety and security at the centre of their organisational plans. While there is no reason to believe that the EURO might become the target of any attack, the potential terrorist threat has always been taken into account, since the beginning of the project." On Sunday (AEDT), organising committee president Jacques Lambert said the risk level around the Euro 2016 finals had "gone up". "EURO 2016 SAS and all stakeholders involved in the organisation of the tournament will continue their joint work and will regularly monitor the level of risk for the tournament and their respective organisational plans," UEFA added. "For over three years now, EURO 2016 SAS has been working closely with the relevant authorities to develop the most appropriate mechanisms in order to guarantee there is a safe and secure tournament and we are confident that the necessary measures will be taken to ensure that is the case for all involved." The Stade de France was targeted by suicide bombers as France played Germany, while France midfielder Lassana Diarra lost a female cousin in the attacks and forward Antoine Griezmann's sister escaped unhurt from the assault on the Bataclan theatre. Co-ordinated attacks, for which Islamic State has claimed responsibility, took place in Paris bars, restaurants, a concert hall and outside a soccer stadium on Friday killing at least 129 people and wounding 352 - the worst atrocity in France since World War II. |
My suggestion for him is to start afresh from year 1 so he can make a first class or second class upper there by enabling him to attend the next convocation. SMH for him . |
