Thanks ma, this were just structured from most important down in case VO wan show he has good listening skills.... I live there forum n the combination

I will surely work on it n make it more succinct abi wetinbe the English to use #AppreciateMam

LagosismyHome:
Interview is usually less than 2 mins so keep your response simple... this might be a mouthful and the VO might think you sound textbookish than reality

You made some good points here but usually interview is quick quick. Most likely the VO will cut u off and move on to another question.. Also if it too long , you might forget a line and become tensed

Bro, I empathize with you and I know how it feels. In my final year in the University, a course i had a B was turned to a C. How do i know i had a B you may ask? The course was a 300 level course and the result was on my portal and i printed it out. With this printed copy i had an evidence which i use to complain to the department severally. To cut the long story short, guess what i was told? I was told i already had a first class degree why should i still bother over a grade that was changed and it makes little difference in my CGPA. Moreover, from my transcript i never had a C, so at least it shows the department is very strict with marks. Do you know the difference of 0.01 costs me from being the Best Graduating student in the school? The Best graduating student's CGPA was higher than mine with 0.01.

This is just to give an insight on what is happening in our institutions. All said, i was asked to do my MSc in that same school, me? Only if they know the resentment i hold against them.

Bro, never give up, you don't have to prove anything to anyone and with God by your side your best is yet to come.

Grades alone cannot define your future but Grace can. Do your best, this American Dream must be achieved.

Sorry for the long epistle, I've never said all these to anyone.
Its those doubting Thomas that caused this..... #Respect
Grades don't but Grade do!

Congratulations bro... You have really try explaining and those that feel otherwise will not want to hear another story in other not to even derail the thread or spoil the school reputation.... Ogreene a lot of cases in Unilag only the lucky once should thank God. Or what will even explain a lower CGPA on your transcript to the one u have on your final year statement of result? Thank God the same record office gave this same SOR and Transcript. #CaseClose ... I really still don't want to talk. Am 89% sure none of this doubting thomas can still even match my CGPA..... Walahi!

God bless u. i did then and i went with my uncle in 2009 and i was assured it was going to be rectified my cpga dropped to 2.38/5.0 and that it will reflect in the convocation of 2008/2009 which will be done in jan 2010. i went for service just for me to call my friend to check the convocation list which bought out my name but no rectification was done. if only two of the four courses . che 101 (4 units) and che 102 (2 units) which i didnt register for or even sat for cause İ was direct entry was removed then i wud av entered 2.40. i still went back after my service and applied for pgd in education. i was not admitted and by that time, the dean of education (prof busari) who knew my case had died and by 2011 after going up and down. the new hod for science and tech edu siad she had never had of my case. i gave up at that point and thank God for my parents encouraged me to do another undergraduate. it was not as if i didnt fight. i just chased a better dream and thank God it turned out well. its just a pity people who dont know anything about unilag all come out here talking. the days of ibidapo obe when course form was by paper and results were in broadsheets.

Slept in the office for my 7am appointment because its closer to the consulate. Got there in the rain by 5:30 or so. After all the checks, queued up and the VOs came to their desks. I wanted one other slim vo because he seemed cool and patient lol, but I was asked to meet the Chinese guy - I think he should be about 32. I wouldn't say he's strict, as the interview wasn't as scary as I feared. You just need to give him or any of them good responses..

VO: good morning
me: good morning
vo: passport, i20? so why are you going to St Cloud?
me: I'm going to st cloud state university to study for an MS degree in Applied Clinical Research.
vo: how many schools did you apply to?
me: I applied to 4 schools; the university of Rhode Island, Virginia Commonwealth university, the university of Texas medical branch and St cloud state university.
vo: why st cloud?
me: I chose to attend st cloud because the clinical research program focuses on medical device research which basically aligns with my interests and I will ( vo cuts in)
vo: did you take any tests?
me: I took the GRE and TOEFL.
vo: how was your score on the GRE?
me: it was fair enough, I got 149, 149, 3.5
vo: ooh that's impressive( inside my mind I was like that one na score, you need to come GRE thread for nairaland make you see what brothers and sisters are doing to the GRE, but I was happy to hear him exclaim that way though)
vo: you do correlation and validation studies where you work( he read it off my ds160)
what's it about?
me: I told him we do it on new medical equipments and diagnostic procedures to ensure optimal standards.
vo: what's the difference between correlation and clausation?
me; I told him I wasn't sure what the difference is ( I had not heard that word in the context he was asking so I chose to be honest instead of explaining rubbish)
vo: what will this degree do for you?
me: this program will equip me with the requisite skills to be able to perform proper and ethical biomedical research upon my return to Nigeria.
vo: what's your research topic?
me: I'll be working on biosystems neuromodulation(the guy is super fast with asking questions and typing)
vo: do you have any scholarship ( looks at i20 for less than a second)?
me: no, I do not.
vo: OK, enjoy your time at st cloud.
me: thank you.
Passed i20 back with white form and said to pick up passport in three days.
Thanks to God and everyone on here for all your help. Walspring, Mekurexx, for assisting to pay fees from WES evaluation through application circle, I remain grateful. And to a kind heart Kene for adding his money to complete my sevis and pay in less than 48 hours to my interview- after my bossom friend( not from nairaland) squandered the first money I sent to him for sevis, may God bless you. Goodluck to everyone.

What a pity some folks liking this post... You will want to know more about, Course Adviser, Department structure, Record Office and lecture. Congratulations on your visa
gaviria:
I find this very hard to believe. Except you graduated in like year 2000-2003 o. That kind of thing can't happen in Unilag. What happened to CITS that your department HOD would have his or her own software. Oh so there's even a software to use, meaning you probably graduated between 2008 and this year. And CITS was functional then, post ume was even computer based. So in Education an HOD used software to spoil your CGPA and you didn't go to DSA or Senate or even the CITS. You're a joker sir. Sell another story. They changed 2:2 to third class for you and you're telling us cool story here.lol. Don't spoil Unilag's reputation o biko. People would start thinking HODs can make their own software to calculate GPA for them. HODs don't even record anything, the lecturers submit the result to the department and the department takes the results to the senate for approval. Mistakes like that can only come from CITS and it can't be that bad or else it'll affect the whole department in which case it'll be resolved. So accept your Grade and don't blame Software sir.

See greatest akokites fighting for his school cos they are best in Nigeria but far behind in the world. This is very TRUE and POSSIBLE. Just thank your star such didn't happen to you. Something like that still happen recently, a course was remove from a student course and that drop his cgpa. the guy in question had A in this course and was able to know after his master admission ask him to retake this course as a prerequisites and he checked his transcript and see the reason for the drop in CGPA. Just keep thanking your stars.... a lot is wrong with Naija not only aso rock.... I really don't wanna talk to much but ur defense tactics made me. #GBAM

If you attended some mushroom universities in Nigeria it's possible. I've seen students who took tests and had excellent test scores but couldn't take exams, in one stupid university like that I once attended in Nigeria, eventually only test scores were recorded as F. In fact, lots of Fs.
Funny thing is that those mushroom universities won't paste results nor can you check what's on file till your final year.

VO: Why dis you choose UNH,
Me: After extensive research and juxtaposition, I decided to choose unh cos its the only school that offer me CIS with concentration in field of AI n robotics together and come with a well structure curricula. It also has an AI n robotics forum where prof, alumni and student of the school share there research Findings, issues and solution which I already joined and will help me in a long way. I Also find current research by prof wheeler ruml in. "Method for heuristic search and planning especially in robotics" in line with my research interest and will help me improve in the aspect of machine decision making and heuristic search in other to achieve my long term career goal of developing or build an expert system to help in diagnosing health issues so as to reduce the stack of queues experience on a daily basis in our medical center.

Journey of a year comes to an end today. Its all been GOD. Today, GOD was evident, He showed me mercy and I now know its not by how prepared you are, you just have to have faith in GOD and believe.
Last night I knelt down on my knees and prayed to GOD to show me mercy that I should be favoured. Na so I reach embassy and waited along with many other people. na so one lady come separate NIV from IV. Passed through all necessary checks and finger printing and I stayed in the queue waiting for VO's to come. Na so window 3 open and one chinese guy call say his window is now available. I be wan enter window 7 becos the vo there just approved one guy. Very jovial VO. but na so dem usher me make I go window 3 chai.
na so I stand infront of the chinesse VO who shouldn't be more than 34.

VO: Good morning how are you?
me: Good morning, Iam fine and you?
VO: Iam great pls pass ur documents.
Me: slides passport and i20 to his window.
VO: typing.. What is bringing you to the US?
Me: Iam going to the US for my undergraduate degree in molecular and cellular biology which I will be studying at the university of maine for a duration of 48 months
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
me : I applied to 4 schools.
VO: name them
Me: ETSU, Umaine, Boston Uni and OSU( I said all in full tho)
VO: Of all these schools why did u pick Umaine.
me: Among all the schools I applied to, I chose the university of maine because I will have the opportunity to join an ongoing research under professor mellisa research group. The research focuses on the human JC polyomavirus which is.. (VO cuts in)
VO: Why will u talk about a research that does not exist. Moreover are u a graduate student? Why talk about research? pls say something else( He said this gesticulating).
Me: see wahala.. my heart come dey beat at this point but I sha compose myself and said
" I chose umaine because I discovered it offers top notch undergraduate mentorship programs and I had the chance to speak with some professors there and I found out that they are well experienced( I just weak as I talk this one.. becos I never in this world envisaged that i would say this lol and the VO's face was so straight, no smiling at all.

VO: did you do SAT?
me: no but I did the TOEFL.
VO: Did you do SAT? (he repeated)
Me: no but I did the toefl(I said again)
Vo: Why didn't you do SAT?
me: my school did not require me to write SAT.
na so the guy just dey type. He suddenly kept my passport and returned my i20. and he said
"Pick up your passport 3 days time and safe trip"
Me: thank you.

This could only be grace and favour. I just couldn't believe it after starting off so poor.
Special appreciation To GOD ALMIGHTY for making this possible, to slimmy2005 for sevis fee payment, adebimpe(will read ur transcript soon), Victor, walspring, neurosci, lagosismyhome and texrem for reviewing my transcript, and to my mum and dad who supported this dream and many others I didn't mention.

gaviria:
Good morning all, I want to use this opportunity to specially thank God almighty for his grace and favor in the course of my US movement. And I want to thank Mr Seun (Shayhune) who helped me after my second Denial last week. He volunteered to help me through the whole process and mock interview. God bless you. And to everyone else that corrected me when I posted my transcript last week, thank you too. God bless everyone. After 2 denials (April 28 and May 18) I finally got my visa approved today (May 24). I went 3 times in less than a month, I wasn't going to relent because I'm not a quitter nor a dull guy although It's all the Grace of God. The 2 times I was denied, as I was leaving Walter carrington I went straight to a GTBank branch to pay the 64k again for the appointment. I told myself I wasn't going to quit and I'm going to the US whatever it took, the same way I told myself back then I wasn't going to any other school asides from Unilag when I left secondary school and people were discouraging me but I tried till I got my admission. Let me cut the story short. I chose the 6:30 appointment because I was told the VOs are always livelier in the morning and as such I should make sure I'm in the first 3-5 people on the queue inside. So I did that I was the second person to enter the consulate but by the time we got to the queue for the visa, I was third on the queue. So the fresh young guy VO called the first guy in front and the CGI guy told the girl behind him to follow him and queue behind him in front of the VO. So I was left in front, 5 seconds later I was called by a VO, mind you this VO was ruthless the last time I went for the interview. He was denying everyone that came to meet him that day, I guess he was in a bad mood or he only asked technical questions that the people weren't prepared for, I was praying not to get him that day but then I still got denied.lol. So as I walked towards him I just said "God take control". So he said Good morning and I answered Good morning and how was your night.
VO: Night was good and yours?
Me: Was alright too.
VO: So tell me what interested you in this school that made you choose it.
Me: My research interest aligns with that of a professor(Cuts me)
VO: What research interest?
Me: Embedded systems in power electronics.
VO: What is Embedded systems
Me: An embedded system is a computer system with a dedicated function on a larger electrical system (I just learnt that last night, didn't know what the research Entailed before last night, something just told me to google and know the definition of all the words in the research name)
VO: So what will you be doing with this professor?
(I didn't know what to say as I didn't prepare for that question)
Me: The research is designed like your mobile phone where all the electronic circuits on the motherboard in the phone have a dedicated function in a larger electrical system which is the phone in its entirety. (Na idea I use, that was just an example of embedded system wey I repackage)
VO: What school did you have your bachelors?
Me: University of Lagos.
Types for 5seconds and asks me to pick my visa in 3 days, I didn't expect it. It didn't last up to a minute and he didn't look at me once throughout, he was just typing and asking the questions. I was waiting for questions like "Who's paying"?,"What school and what course?", "What do you do now?. etc.
I'm very happy. I was confident and very calm this time because not being calm cost me at my last interview. I was the first person issued a white paper today at the Lagos Consulate as that guy in front of me was still with that fresh VO guy and so was the girl behind him. Thanks to everyone for their encouraging transcripts and words. It's God at the end of it all, I prayed to God and emptied my pocket in church last Sunday and told God to help me this week and he did. Let me stop my epistle here, sorry I'm used to writing epistles.
