The chances of Presidential aspirant, Governor Nyesom Wike winning the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may cause uncertainty for northern stakeholders in the party.

Deji Adeyanju, popular rights activist, on Friday, said this while alleging that Wike’s presidential interest in PDP was causing crisis in the South-East.

He wondered how the PDP plans to win the 2023 presidential election as a divided party.

On his Twitter page, Adeyanju wrote: If Wike wins the PDP ticket, I see many of the Northern stakeholders leaving the party or working against him within because they already believe he is responsible for manipulation of many congresses across the country.

“Imagine organizing a parallel primaries in Akwa Ibom because Udom is running for president. See the thing they are doing in Edo. PDP is in complete crisis in the South-East because of Wike’s interest.

Chelsea FC survives again

The Premier League Board has today approved the proposed takeover of Chelsea Football Club by the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Consortium.

The purchase remains subject to the Government issuing the required sale licence and the satisfactory completion of the final stages of the transaction.

The Board has applied the Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test (OADT) to all prospective Directors, and undertaken the necessary due diligence.

The members of the Consortium purchasing the club are affiliates of the Clearlake Capital Group, L.P., Todd Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.

Chelsea FC will now work with the relevant Governments to secure the necessary licences to complete the takeover.

The Kano State Police Command on Saturday intercepted a car loaded with bomb-making devices and sophisticated weapons in the state. According to a police statement, the command's spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident, said its operatives were still investigating the matter.

According to the PPRO, the command on May 19 through credible Intelligence intercepted a Mercedes Benz carrying sophisticated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), coming from Jigawa State to Kano State.

He said “On May 19, following an intelligence report that a Mercedes Benz Motor Vehicle, ash in color with suspected sophisticated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) was coming from Jigawa State to Kano State, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, immediately raised a crack team comprising Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN) and Operation Puff Adder.

“At about 1630hrs of the same date, following a hot chase, the suspects abandoned the Motor Vehicle at Bubbugaje Quarters Kumbotso LGA Kano State. A technical search conducted by the team revealed that the motor vehicle was fully loaded with Improvised Explosive Device materials.”

“Two (2) AK-47 Rifles, Four (4) AK-47 Magazines, One Thousand and Ninety-Eight (1,098) Live Ammunition, and Two (2) Pistol Magazines were also recovered. An investigation has commenced,” the police statement said.

Four AK-47 rifles, two pistols, suicide vests, and several Improvised Explosive Materials, IEDs, were recovered from the suspects.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested two Boko Haram members suspected to have been responsible for the bomb explosion in the Sabongari area of Kano State.

A report by Eons Intelligence claimed that the DSS also recovered some explosive items from the arrested Boko Haram members.

This is coming days after the Nigeria Police Force said the incident, where at least nine persons died and several others were injured, was caused by a gas explosion.

Meanwhile, residents and eyewitnesses of the incident had countered the security agencies' narration, saying they saw the fragments of the body of a suspected suicide bomber at the scene.

According to the Eons Intelligence report, four AK-47 rifles, two pistols, suicide vests, and several Improvised Explosive Materials, IEDs, were recovered from the suspects.

Tambuwal said that contrary to a general belief, the security agencies did not abandon the female Christian student but were also attacked by the mob.

The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has stated that operatives of the Department of State Services got to Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, on time but were overpowered by the Muslim mob. SaharaReporters had last week in several reports noted that Deborah was on Thursday, May 12 dragged outside her hostel, beaten, killed and burnt by her Muslim colleagues in the presence of security personnel, for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Her killing has been condemned by groups and notable persons from within and outside Nigeria.

The Sokoto State Police Command had on Monday, May 16 arraigned two suspects, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunchi, before the Sokoto State Magistrate Court for allegedly participating in Deborah’s killing.

The suspects, who were represented by 34 Muslim lawyers led by Prof Mansur Ibrahim, were arraigned on controversial charges of “criminal conspiracy and inciting of public disturbance.” -
