Ekiti State Government said on Thursday that perpetrators and propagators of kiss-a-thon, a planned kissing marathon targeted at setting a Guinness World Record, billed to start in the state on Friday risked three years imprisonment.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata, said the same fate awaited proprietors or owners of any facility used for the hosting of such an event in the state apart from closing it down.

A group, Sugartee, in leaflets circulated in the state, had planned the three-day (72-hour) kissing event billed to be held in Ekiti between July 7 and July 10, saying the three-day kissing marathon was “an attempt to break the GWR for the longest kissing marathon.”

Apata, who spoke in a prohibition notice of the kiss-a-thon, which he signed, said, “Pursuant to the provisions of the law and any other relevant laws applicable in Ekiti State, the proposed programme tagged kiss-a-thon is hereby prohibited throughout the length and breadth of Ekiti State.

"The planned kiss-a-thon programme is contrary to sections 148 and 150 of the Criminal Law (2021) which prohibits indecent acts and practices in the state, and anyone who violates the law is guilty of felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years.

“Any person or corporate body that allows himself/herself and facilities to be used in executing the proposed programme in the state would be prosecuted before an appropriate court.”

A bouncer at a nightclub in Port Harcourt has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

The arrest of the suspect was reported done on Sunday at a location in Ojike Street, in the Mile 1 axis of the Diobu community, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to a source in the area, the bouncer who is identified as Obidiah, had sent the minor to buy him a recharge card for his mobile phone, upon her return, the bouncer asked the minor to bring the card into the room.

“Immediately she entered the room and gave the recharge card to Obidiah, he locked the door, increased the volume of his radio set and that was how he had carnal knowledge of her,” the source said.

The source futher said that a co-tenant, upon realising that the minor took time before coming out of the room, questioned her.

“So, the girl now narrated to the co-tenant of the suspect what transpired and he, in turn, alerted the Mile 1 Police Division. So policemen came and arrested him on Sunday." The source added

We should congratulate the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for proving the integrity of its result release process this week. In a country where the non-performance and self-sabotage of national institutions are an ever-present embarrassment, demonstrating the forgery of the result presented by a candidate in its last United Tertiary Matriculation Examination is a feat!

I say that because many Nigerians, including yours truly, did not see it coming. Years of abuse of the people’s trust have turned us into sceptics who only expect the worst from our government and its agencies.

There are countless reasons to justify our cynicism. As recently as the 2023 general elections, scandalous images were sighted on the Independent Electoral Commission’s portal. That is not to speak of non-existent names on the voter list or thousands of voter cards discovered in the forests by hunters in Anambra State.

Nigeria cannot conduct a credible census amidst so many other scandalous incapacities. I laughed when the JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, painted the quick response (QR) code as the magic bullet to unravelling the truth in the Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme result controversy.

I recalled the experience of many Nigerians with the QR code on the COVID-19 vaccination card between 2020 and 2021.Many people got to the places where they needed to use these cards to discover that their names, dates of birth, and other vital statistics had been muddled up. Some Nigerians still have sour stories to tell about their national identification numbers. We are a country that makes a mess of producing travel documents for its people, guarding its people properly, securing the borders effectively and even correctly educating its children. It has been a lifetime of sub-optimal service delivery for a significant number of our population, they are used to it, and it is the only way they know!

JAMB is not exempt from the logistical disorder that has become our albatross. It is doubtful that any Nigerian family exists without some story about JAMB’s tackiness. For instance, the board has, for some years, insisted that candidates take exclusive computer-based tests.

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has announced that university school fees will be reduced by 50 per cent to cushion the current hardship in the country.

According to the Governor's Spokesperson, Emmanuel Bello, the Governor made the statement on Wednesday at Taraba State University, saying that quality education remained his main priority.

Kefas said he had since declared a state of emergency in the education sector. Which he added that he is committed to free education at the primary and secondary school levels.

Many of the University students expressed joy at the development, saying the reduction in fees would greatly enhance their lives.

“Some parents said the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy has made payments of school fees difficult. They said the slash has raised their hopes,” Bello said.

Meanwhile, Kefas said plans are being perfected to pay pensioners and retirees.

He said he had also directed prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements.

Biafra agitator and Separatist, Simon Ekpa, has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration that only the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, will end the sit-at-home order in the southeast.

According to Daily Post, Simon Ekpa had told them in a statement on wednesday that, they would end the sit-at-home only if Nnamdi Kanu is released immediately.

Nnamdi Kanu who has been unlawfully detained by the Nigerian Government despite court orders asking for his release, was re-arrested in June, 2021 in Kenya - this Kanu legal counsel argued was a kidnap not extradition as claimed by Nigerian government.

Since the re-arrest, the southeastern part of the country has been observing sit-at-home. An order that is enforced by the Indegenous People of Biafra - otherwise known as IPOB.

Ekpa stressed that the sit-at-home in the region will end with Kanu’s release. noting that self-referendum would restore the region’s lasting peace and economic stability.

“Our message to the Nigerian government is to release MNK immediately, or we will add another strict measure to civil disobedience, and this time is to stop oil exploitation in Biafra soil”, he said.

“We are also officially notifying the Nigerian government of our preparation for the Self Referendum and calling on the government to support the self-referendum, which is the true democratic process to restore peace and stability in the region”, he stated.

The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has disowned the new leadership of the National Assembly announced on Tuesday by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Adamu, who labelled the report as a ‘rumour’ at a crucial meeting of the National Working Committee and APC governors at the party secretariat, said the party has not officially stated the presiding officers.

His rebuttal is coming in the wake of reports that Akpabio had named Ekiti Central lawmaker, Opeyemi Bamidele, as the 10th Senate Majority Leader.

The Senate President also announced Senator Dave Umahi ( Ebonyi South) as Deputy Majority Leader, Ali Ndume (Borno South) as Chief Whip, and Lola Ashiru (Kwara South) as the Deputy Whip.

“I am just hearing as a rumour now from the online media that there have been some announcements in the Senate and House of Representatives. The national headquarters of the party of the NWC has not given any such information or communicated about the choice of offices. Until we formally resolve and communicate with them in writing which is the norm and practice, it is not our intention to break away from traditions. So whatever announcement is done either the President of the Senate, Deputy Senate President, Speaker or Deputy Speaker, is not from this secretariat.

“We are going to formally inform you that we are going to have a caucus. For quite a time, there has been no caucus in place. The caucus has been reconstituted according to the constitution of APC. And we will be discussing that with you as governors, you know your states more than we know it. Even if we come from the same state, the leadership is in you as governors,” Adamu said.

Continuing, the APC chairman disclosed that the party will make an official announcement when the decision on the sharing formula of the principal offices has been determined.

The two-term governor of Nasarawa State also used the opportunity to update the governors on the audit of the party’s account in the last year, which the NWC hopes to submit in seven days at the meeting of the National Executive Committee.

He said, “You will get an update on the National Election in the national assembly sharing of powers particularly the leadership of the chambers. The election of the principal officers of the Senate by the Senate President and Deputy Senate President. The election of the speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives have been determined and announced and their responsibilities.

“The remaining offices to be determined by the two chambers is yet to be done. I had a courtesy call on Saturday from the President of the Senate and his deputy.

You will also be given the benefits of all the detailed accounts from April 2022 to April 2023. The PCC account has been audited and it has been submitted to the INEC by the party. An investigations on the case of a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme, who alledgely inflate her 2023 UTME score has been concluded.

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, made this known on Tuesday, adding that 'not only mmesoma Ejikeme was involved' in the act.

He said, “The truth is that JAMB has concluded the investigation on Nmesoma’s score falsification matter. She was not the only one caught, just that others have chosen not to go out”, Oloyede said.

“Presently, there is an industry faking results and unfortunately they cannot penetrate JAMB system, reasons being that (our) system is foolproofed and we will prove it any time. It is unfortunate that parents and some of the candidates that are being fooled are not aware that they are only being fooled.

“We improved on our facilities this year, so Ejikeme and her collaborators are still living in the past. I spoke with Mrs Ezekwesili on the matter and I told her that it is a high-level scam and I told her that it was a careless forgery.

“This is because we are no longer using some of the things they used in changing those results since 2021. We used that pattern in 2021 and you saw what happened and many of such individuals were caught as well and they were treated accordingly,” he stated.

A political pressure group affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP Action 2023, has backed the immediate past Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District to clinch the Office of the Senate Minority Leader when the red chamber resume from the Sallah break.

This is just as the group flayed the recent attacks on Senator Tambuwal by those it described as ‘dictators’ afraid of the growing political profile of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In a statement signed by the group’s chairman, Rufus Omeire, and made available to journalists on Saturday, the PDP-affiliated body, accused some unnamed persons of leveling unsubstantiated allegations against Tambuwal, for reasons not unconnected with his aspiration to the Senate minority leadership.

“In the National Assembly, a Speaker outranks a Senator. As a former Speaker, he has the ranking and qualifications to become the Minority leader of the 10th Senate. So, why are they afraid of Tambuwal? Are they worried that he may become a stumbling block to the alleged plot for complete dictatorship in Nigeria?” the group asked.

The statement read in part, “They alleged that he (Tambuwal) once betrayed some people and PDP. Behind these allegations is an attempt to re-litigate the 2022 PDP presidential primaries. They have consistently tried to pin on him the issue of the betrayal of some of his friends because of the patriotic role he played during the PDP national convention. We cannot hold brief for Tambuwal, but at the appropriate time, the relevant question would be asked: Who betrayed who? He didn’t betray the PDP or the nation in his 8 years as Sokoto State Governor.

“Tambuwal had shown interest in the PDP presidential nomination long before some people suddenly appeared on the since and expected him to drop out for them just because they believed that they had more financial resources than him. Whether they had better programmes for Nigerians or not, didn’t matter.”

Adeyeye Adeola, a talented Nigerian chef, has embarked on a remarkable culinary journey to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual).

Adeola’s cook-a-thon began on Friday, June 30, 2023, in the Ile-Oluji Local Government Area of Ondo State and is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, July 6, 2023.

While making the official announcement via her facebook page in a video real, she wrote;

"My name is Adeyeye Adeola from Illorin, I'm attempting to break the Guinness world record for the longest hour cooking of 150hours. Please do well to support me for more publicity"

A livestram on her facebook page yesterday shows the kick-off of her attempt. Adeola is already gaining support from persons - with people wishing her success in this adventure.

This is coming after another Nigerian chef, Adeparusi Damilola, also known as Chef Dammy embarked on a 120-hour cook-a-thon in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Chef Dammy, a 26-year-old student at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, aimed to push the boundaries of culinary endurance.

Just as it is all over the media, a young Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci, currently holds the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.

Baci’s record-breaking attempt took place from Thursday, May 11 to Monday, May 15, during which she cooked over 100 pots of food over four days.

In an official statement on its website, the Guinness World Records confirmed Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with an impressive time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

The GWR in a statement on its website, said, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.”

However, Adeola’s 150-hour cook-a-thon if achieved will break Hilda Baci’s record and also set a new world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Nigerians eagerly await the outcome, hoping to witness Adeola’s extraordinary achievement in setting a new Guinness World Record.

Point of Sale agents in Lagos State will soon begin to charge customers N500 for N10,000 cash withdrawals.

This is after the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, announced a new price list for PoS transactions on Channels Television’s Business Morning programme by the Public Relations Officer, Lagos Chapter, Stephen Adeoye, on Friday.

According to him, the association’s price list is to eradicate price discrepancies in the industry.

He said, “Let me tell you the price list, N1000–N2,400 will be N100 for withdrawal. N3500 to N4000 will be N200; N4,100 to N6,400 will be N300; N6,500 to N7,900 will be N400; N8500 to N10,900 will be N500; N11,000 to N14,000 will be N600; N14,500 to N17,900 will be N700; N18,000 to N2000 will N800 for withdrawal.

“Like we said, depending on your location, you can also step it down for people depending on the circumstances. But it should not go more than this.”

He further stated that for deposits and transfers, agents can now charge N100 for N1,000 to N4,900; N200 for N5000 to N10,900; N300 for N11,000 to N20,900; N400 got N21,000 to N30,900; N500 for N31,000 to N40,000; and N600 for N41,100 to N50,000.

Adeoye said the chairman of the Lagos chapter of the association, David Abiodun, recently released the new price list to excos at a symposium. He noted that the purpose of the list was to curb the activities of agents that were still overcharging their customers.

He said, “Although, we agreed that depending on one’s area, they can lower the charges. But it should exceed these new prices. This is why we expect everyone to paste it in their locations so that customers can see it.”

Commenting on how the association intends to enforce its price list, the PRO states that it will leverage its relationship with the police and a task force in their area of operations.

Adeoye explained, “To enforce this new price list is easy because we have a good relationship with the Lagos State Command, Police Force, and all the DPOs in the area. Very soon a task force will be set up in each zone so that they will work along with it.

“Today, someone can get a PoS and start working, but we would soon get to everyone. Registered members have a number and certificate, and we have a good collaboration with the CBN both in Lagos and in Abuja. AMMBAN is part of meetings around financial inclusion.

“So, enforcing this will be easy for us. We have zones in almost all the local governments. So, our task force in each zone will locate those who are there. We also have our website, and everyone has to register.”

In January, National President, AMMBAN, Victor Olojo, told The PUNCH that the association did not have any plans to increase its service charges. A sixteen-year-old has committed suicide after the husband of her boss whose name could only be confirmed as Ajibode, allegedly raped her at their residence in the Eruwa community, in the Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State.

After perpetrating the crime, Ajibode, who is a welder, was said to have threatened to kill the minor if she revealed what happened to anyone.

It was learnt that the minor had been learning fashion design from Ajibode’s wife and was said to have been living with her boss to also assist her with domestic chores.

Things, however, took another turn when the minor was sleeping in a room at the couple’s residence when Ajibode entered the room and allegedly raped the minor on June 23, 2023.

Angered by the development, the minor, who was said to have been traumatised by Ajibode’s action, reportedly drank a substance suspected to be insecticide and died from the toxic substance.

Agbeloba’s father, Sunday, who had been inconsolable since he got to know of the circumstances that influenced her daughter’s decision to allegedly take her life, said in a bid to get justice for his late daughter, he reported the case at the Eruwa Police Station.

He, however, lamented that the police, while investigating the case, arrested Ajibode, adding that the suspect had been boasting that justice would not prevail in the matter. FULL STORY HERE

A wailing mother has narrated how a man defiled her five-year-old daughter, and is demanding justice.

The suspect, Bright Okutuoma has been however arrested by policemen attached to the Rumuni Police Station of Rivers State Police Command - for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl around the Ibaa community, in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

According those familiar with the story, Okutuoma was at home when he requested the assistant of his neighbour’s daughter to buy a sachet of water.

The victim’s mother, while at the Cool/Wazobia/Info fm in the Port Harcourt area of the state, narrated the events that led to the alleged defilement of her daughter by Okutuoma and demanded justice.

Speaking in the company of her husband and daughter at the station, the mother of the minor said when her daughter returned with the sachet of water, Okutuoma took her into his flat and allegedly defiled her.

The aggrieved mother said after her neighbour perpetrated the crime, he told her daughter she would die if she informed anybody about the illicit act, adding that she got to know her daughter had been defiled when her school teacher observed blood stains on her pants...

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday,in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, relived the obstacles he had to surmount in the build-up to the general elections to achieve his presidential ambition.

The President spoke at the palace of the Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in Ijebu-Ode, during what he called a thank-you visit to the monarch.

Tinubu, who was in Ogun State on a private visit, also visited the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo,at his palace in Abeokuta.

Tinubu, who arrived in a presidential chopper 5N FG2, Nigeria Air Force, landed at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in the Ijebu-Ode area of the state at exactly 10.18am.

In his entourage were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and presidential spokesperson, Dele Alake.

He was received by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; former governors of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Segun Osoba; and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, among others.

At the palace of Oba Adetona in Ijebu-Ode, Tinubu said his path to Presidency was not easy, adding that he had to invoke the spirit of ‘Baba Emilokan’ to overcome various challenges, including the naira redesign and cashless policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria ahead of the general elections.

Tinubu said, “Our monies were confiscated. The cashless policy didn’t work, it was terrible then. I realised that I came to this palace to invoke the spirit of freedom which we are noted for.

Oil marketers have projected that the pump price of petrol could rise above N700 per litre in Northern Nigeria starting from July.

The National Controller Operations, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mike Osatuyi, while speaking to news men on Wednesday said that prices could rise to above N700 in the north once independent marketers start importing products from July.

He said while those living in the northern states could pay as much as N700 and above for one litre of petrol, those outside Lagos should expect to pay around N610, as residents in Lagos would pay about N600 per litre.

“What I am seeing is around N600 and above, depending on the exchange rate, the current crude price at the international market and the landing cost. Those in Lagos will pay around N600, those outside Lagos around N600 plus, while those in the north would be paying anything from N700 and above,” he said.

The downstream sector currently awaits fresh petroleum products as the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority continues to licence operators willing to get involved in the importation business.

The President, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, said he invoked the spirit of freedom during his electioneering in Ogun State.

He said during the campaign season, some of his popular statements that resonated with Nigerians and his supporters were used to invoke the spirit.

The former Lagos State governor said the hardship that accompanied the Central Bank of Nigeria cash swap policy during the electioneering period forced him to invoke the spirit of freedom in the South West state.

“I invoked the spirit of freedom in Ogun,” the president said while speaking at the palace of Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in Ijebu Ode.

President Bola Tinubu and state governors, on Wednesday, assured Nigerians that the economic pains and hardships they were facing would soon turn to prosperity.

They said the current pains were necessary, noting that the peoples’ sacrifices would pave the way for abundance and a better future for the country.

Tinubu and the governors spoke in separate statements on the Sallah celebrations across the country.

Speaking in Lagos shortly after observing the Eid prayers at the Obalende Muslim Prayer Ground located near Dodan Barracks, the former seat of power in Lagos, the President said, “We have to make the sacrifices and that is clear, we have to.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has limited the daily cumulative transaction limit to N50,000 and the single transaction limit to N15,000 contactless payments made through bank accounts or digital wallets.

The transaction limit for contactless payments took effect on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

CBN’s director of the Payments and Systems Management Department, Musa Jimoh, disclosed this in a circular to banks, other financial institutions, and payment service providers.

Jimoh said the higher-value contactless payments are transactions that exceed the above-stated limits and will require appropriate verification and authorisation.

“For these transactions, existing know-your-customer (KYC) requirements and limits on the electronic payment channels shall apply, adding that limits above this stipulated daily cumulative limit shall be conducted using contact-based technology,” Jimoh noted. FULL DETAILS
