I work for an Oil Servicing Firm, and have worked in various other industries prior. And if there is one thing that they all have in common, it's their use of the spreadsheet program MS Excel. From keeping track of inventory, to running sales reports, to even paying their staff, the program is widely employed to help automate, organize and record data. And in all these industries, I stood out and shone, because I could play with the software and perform time-saving functions my peers thought was impossible. But enough about me. This show is about Excel! Among many things, I have found that Excel will help you; make calculations of complex formulas easy present a consistent and accurate financial breakdown free of errors generate exciting and clear reports with graphs and tables automate many activities and reduce man-hour Save time in your job or business Even on the personal side, Excel will help you create expense budgets, calculate loans, and even track your income. My friend used it to calculate the total cost of his wedding, and found out that the MC/Comedian was about to claim 25% of his total budget! We know you are smart, and can probably learn these things on your own if you put your back into it (and have a LOT of time on your hands). Wonderful post. I have four questions I usually ask before venturing into a new business. 1. Do consumers recognize that they have the problem you are trying to solve? 2. If there was a solution for that problem, would they buy it? 3. Would they buy it from us? 4. Can we build a solution for that problem? When I can answer these in the affirmative, then I start doing the things you have listed |

Business / You Need LESS Than You Think! by propershot: 5:27am On May 12, 2015 |
For that new business you are starting up... Do you really need ten people? Or will two or three be OK for now... Do you really need 4 Million Naira? Or will 40,000 (or even 4,000) be OK to start... Do you really need an office space in Lekki? Or can you share office space (or use a hub) or work from home even... Do you really need to buy Billboard space? Or are there other ways to get noticed.... Do you really need an accountant? Or can you use Quicken or even a simple notebook and do it yourself... Do you really need to rent a store space? Or can you sell your goods on Konga and other online outlets... There's nothing wrong with been frugal. That's what it means to be a lean startup. Great companies have humble beginnings. Maybe yours can too... Courtesy: www.propershot.com |

Business / Become The Director! Call The Shots! by propershot: 2:51pm On May 05, 2015 |
Take control of your picture-taking and watch your pictures dramatically improve. Become a picture director, not just a passive picture-taker. A picture director takes charge. Consider the Light. Light is more than just how bright or dark it is; it’s also the key to the look, mood and atmosphere of your images A picture director picks the location: "Everybody go outside to the gardens." Determine the best background, for it influences your scenery A picture director adds props: "Girls, put on your sunglasses, stand akimbo". Add flavor to your shots, but keep it simple. A picture director arranges the scene: "Now move in close, and lean forward, now smile!" Don't just wait for the perfect moment; create it. Most pictures won't be that involved, but you get the idea. The shot is always subject to the one wielding the camera. Take charge of your pictures and win your own best picture awards. Photo Credit to Walter. Awesome photographer. |
Business / The Age Of Visual Culture by propershot: 3:57pm On Apr 13, 2015 |
We live in the age of the “camera in everyone’s pocket” and with more than 2.5 billion smart phones in use, 15 million of them in Nigeria, we are entering a new dynamic era around image creation and content marketing. 10% of photos taken by humankind took place in the last 12 months. Photos are becoming the “universal language”. The fastest growing social media networks are not surprisingly Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. These social networks are the names on everyone’s lips as they have embraced the visual medium and have made it easy to upload and share images and photos online. Though Facebook has over a billion registered users, Instagram is the go-to destination for most of its 200 million youth. They regard it as "more friendly", and adults (in Nigerian sense >35) are hardly on it, which increases the appeal. Yet remember, all it does is allow these youths share pictures and 15sec videos! Even Facebook has recently undergone a serious Timeline overhaul, which streamlines it more towards photos. Its new algorithms allow more users to see posts with pictures, which explains why a profile picture change can attract up to 100 likes, yet a text post from the same individual will only attract very few interaction. The handwriting on the wall is very clear... www.propershot.com/blog/2015/4/11/the-age-of-visual-culture |

Nigeria's gubernatorial elections on Saturday will mark the latest test of our now fragile democracy. And it will also mark your skills both as a secret agent and a skilled photographer. The last Presidential elections saw people scrambling all over the net looking for pictures to appreciate the event, and you can be where they run to this time (TRAFFIC). If you are planning on taking pictures on this fateful day, here are a few things I believe you should bear in mind. 1. HAVE A CAMERA SHORTCUT You would need to be able to access your camera app quickly and seamlessly in the event that a remarkable incident occurs. We all know how it sucks to miss those moments...So set a camera shortcut on your home screen. Most android phones have this option available on Setting>Display>Lockscreen. For IOS users you may have to access it from the command center. 2. PUT OFF THE FLASH Forget to do this and you risk drawing great, unwanted (yes UNWANTED) attention to you, and possibly get you in trouble. Most law enforcement officers in Nigeria just don’t like cameras for some reason! Make sure the flash icon on the camera app settings is crossed off. 3. BE DISCREET Discreet - "careful and prudent in one’s speech or actions, especially in order to keep something confidential or to avoid embarrassment". This may be by far the most important point to note. Now that forming Adekunle Bond, you must behave in a way and manner befitting of a super-spy. Don't put on a Jack Bauer cap. It doesn't help! Be natural, blend in, and gun them down with a dozen shutter clicks! 4. SHARE THE GOODIES Now that you have the goods don't be stingy. Let that bird fly! There are handles on Twitter you could share them on. People will want to see them, so they will be on the lookout for these. it can really bring you some attention (not like you mind i know...). My personal ones is #Nigeriadecides, @channelstv and @EiENigeria. You can find others if you like, just make sure you don’t keep it to yourself. And last but not least, be safe! Business / 4 Ways To Use Instagram To Enhance Your Business by propershot: 5:03pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
It has been quite some time since social media has been playing important roles in the field of business. If you own a business these days and exclude social media from your online marketing endeavours, it is close to suicidal. So, several companies have been using social media platforms to take their businesses to greater heights. One such platform, Instagram, has gained prominence as a great place to share images. But not only that. Instagram is also playing a major role in helping enhance the social media marketing for your business. Here’s a quick look at how you can use Instagram in a creative manner to enhance your business prospects. 1. SHARE IMAGES PRUDENTLY What are you planning to use Instagram for? Do you want to sell some products through this platform? Then the first thing that you should do is share the images of the products that you want to sell. No one would be ready to purchase things that they haven’t seen. When you are selling stuff online, you might not be able to show the real product. But visual is important on social media platforms like Instagram as well. So, post the images of those products to enhance the chances of it being sold. Moreover, you should also look to share pictures with which your target audience will be able to relate. This surely has a major positive impact on the purchasing decision of the potential customer. 2. ADD RELEVANT AND POPULAR HASHTAGS What are the popular hashtags at the moment? You might not be aware of them. But search on Google and you will get a list of them. For example, some of the most used hashtags include: #love, #instagood, #me, #like, #follow Use some of these hashtags to organize the images that you are sharing on Instagram. The right hashtags can help the images that you are sharing to get maximum views. You can use around two or three hashtags for each image. However, don’t go for too many hashtags. And as you add them, make sure that you are choosing hashtags, which are relevant to the image you have shared. Otherwise it will make people consider your image to be spams. 3. FOLLOW PEOPLE SO THAT THEY FOLLOW YOU Until and unless people follow you, the images that you are sharing won’t be seen by many. So, try to increase your number of followers on Instagram. While doing this, you need to remember that the process of following on the world of social media is a reciprocal process. So, the best thing you can do to increase your number of followers is follow others. And, in addition, you need to be quite active on Instagram. You should post photos on a regular basis to ensure that people subscribe to your updates. However, do not post too frequently, as it can make your posts appear to be like spams. 4. HAVE A COMPLETE PROFILE Your bio is one of the most important parts of your Instagram profile. Through this, people will come to know about you and decide whether they will follow you or not. The bio should have different things in it: • Web links • Call-to-action • Branded hashtags It is extremely important that your bio on Instagram is a properly completed one. Ok so what are you waiting for? Courtesy: www.propershot.com |
