Can someone change the name of the thread to 2030. Hopefully we will have a better Eagles by then. I'm only pained we let those xenophobic SA go to world cup. Not like Benin deserved it. If they really fought like how Ghana fought in the last playoff, they would have at least gotten something. Nothing dey the AFCON too, the same set of players that don't have anything to proof, except for osimhen. All the best see you in 2030 |

It's actually bad coaching. They really don't know what to do with the ball. Imagine Nigeria had 18 shots to Italy 14. Italian scored 4 goals. While we couldn't score any. When someone gets the ball all they want to do is shoot at the goalkeeper instead of working the ball, till they get a very good chance to score.
The fact that they Keep shooting also shows they don't come up against good goalkeepers in Nigeria. It's only in Nigeria league they can score from those kind of shots not on the world stage. |

I have begged you guys to let Benin qualify for the world cup. What is our gain if South Africa beat Rwanda at home and we come beat Benin( which I know we can't) those boys would die on the pitch than to let you spoil show for them. Benin to the world cup.... |

Those boys tried not embarrass their father land, except for the goalkeeper though. But the tactical know how is lacking. You can't really do much. We were 3 goals down and the coach decided to substitute all the 3 midfielders. We were never dominated in the midfield. We just couldn't do anything upfront. |

TheSuperNerd: It is not a lie. We commended Fred and Abel Ogwuche during the tournament but afterwards, what happened? How many more mentions of them by these same folks who watched them?
How many times did you guys run the hype on Frederick post-tournament? Tell me? How many times? How many times was he touted by many here as a truly defensive pearl for the future even after we crashed out?
I talked up Frederick everywhere and my posts on TwitterX are still there if anyone browse the name "Benjamin Frederick".
A few of us actually do the due diligence of following up on these youngsters and not only remembering them when we have a tournament.
Or is it not you who comes asking where is this player or that player??
It is easy to take the criticism role or start talking which regions has the ballers. I will never go that route. It is so cheap. I don't believe it's wrong say ballers came from a particular region. I'm not saying it because of where they live or exposure. There's a study that claims all the top 100m athletes have genelogy from a part in West African. So it might just be our strength and it has nothing to do with tribalism. Southern Nigeria have dominated sports for a reason and it's not just because of their population and exposure. From what I have noticed nobody likes sports pass northerners oo. |

What shall a country gain if you qualified for AFCON and could not qualify for world cup. Gradually Nigeria is dropping out of top 10 in Africa. Maybe when that happens the incompetent people in NFF will no longer have a place to hide. Everything na time. Those that are working hard should keep working. Their time will come. |

Seems like some people work for the NFF here. Even though the boys don't have the talent, but they still showed a more spirited performance than the super eagles. |

Nigeria definitely has a chance to win - and here's why they could pull it off:
Nigeria's Quality Factor: Despite their inconsistency, Nigeria still has significantly more individual talent. Players like Ademola Lookman, and others playing in top European leagues can create moments of magic that change games instantly. Sometimes in football, pure quality overcomes tactical setups.
Desperation Can Be Powerful: When Nigeria's backs are truly against the wall, they've historically found ways to respond. The pressure could actually galvanize them rather than paralyze them. They know this is essentially a must-win game.
South Africa's Nerves: Being so close to World Cup qualification could make South Africa tighten up. They might play not to lose rather than to win, which could invite pressure and give Nigeria more control of the game.
Counter-Attack Vulnerability: If South Africa sits back (which they likely will), Nigeria has the pace and skill to hurt them on quick transitions. One well-worked move could break the game open.
Set Piece Threat: Nigeria has tall, athletic players who are dangerous from corners and free kicks. In a tight game, dead ball situations often decide matches.
Realistic Scenario for Nigeria Win: Nigeria 2-1 South Africa - they start nervously, South Africa takes an early lead, but Nigeria's quality shows in the second half with two quick goals that South Africa can't respond to.I'd say Nigeria has about a 35-40% chance of winning. Not favorites, but definitely capable of getting the result |

Danielnino00: 2024 Nairaland Nigeria Football Fans Award
Update
Gents,
The next step now is to select members of the nomination committee. The committee will be responsible for selecting the the awards categories as well as nominees for each category.
Traditionally, selecting of members of the nomination committee was done through voting. I personally like that method because it ensure that all members of the thread have the chance to select the most passionate and knowledgeable monikers to nominate players for the award. However, every year, there's always this problem of those who are voted to be part of the committee not being active... Last year, almost 80% of monikers that were voted to be part of the committee quit... Others were either inactive or unavailable. I understand that we all have our lives to live and work stuffs won't allow some of us participate actively. On this note, I've decided that this year, the nomination committee will be made up of members who Volunteer to join.. that way, we can be ensured of some level of commitment.
Here's how it will be done: If you're interested in being a member of the committee, quote this post with one word "Interested". Other members of the thread will give credence to your nomination by liking the post. The top 8 monikers with the most likes and shares will make up the nomination committee alongside I and icon4s who, by default is a honourary member of the committee, being the founder of this award.
Voting closes on Monday December 16th 2024 at 6pm Nigeria time
Thank you
CC: Icon4s, semid4lyfe
PS: if anyone has an objection to the chosen method of selecting committee members, do not hesitate to let me know...maybe we can work out another method Interested |

daveP: Longevity Troost
To Imagine that Local coach almost bundled him off with silliest remarks/analysis of abilities, is one for big vex.
Now he's the heart of this team. Respect and Regard, while doing primary duty without his long lost partner in crime, Leon Balogun of the Oyinbo Wall.
And here he is, still playing so well at this level, a fans favorite.
Local coaches need to upgrade their Analysis caps tbvh. Especially for FBs.
I pray he wraps it up with that AFCON in the bag. I see a future eagle coach in Troost. He’s got something |
