Why give to the rich if not in anticipation for a clap back? The poor will only pray for you and do not have the wherewithal to repay your gestures. This is where the blessing lies. |

Consumption of ‘suya, isi-ewu, kilisi’ killing Nigerians – Health minister By Ameh Comrade Godwin on December 5, 2016 @dailypostngr Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, has lamented the rate of death in Nigeria resulting from unhealthy diet. According to Adewole, hypertension is the leading cardiovascular disease in Nigeria and can result in stroke if untreated. He remarked that 1 in every 5 Nigerians is hypertensive and at risk of premature death. Presenting the keynote address in Lagos, during the First Annual Black Tie Gala event organised by the Tristate Heart Foundation (THF), to raise N500 million in support of cardiovascular care in Nigeria, he observed that unhealthy diets contributed significantly to the development of non communicable diseaes in Nigeria. He said, “Sadly, there is widespread low consumption of proteins, fruits and vegetables and increasing patronage of fast food outlets by the population. There is also large promotion of sweetened products such as carbonated drinks, pastries, candies and other refined sugars, while excessive intake of salt is promoted by food additives such as monosodium glutamate common in delicacies such as suya, kilisi, isi-ewu, ngwo-ngwo, among others.” He further added that current estimates, show that death rate from stroke is 40-50 per cent within the first three months of diagnoses, while 39 per cent of those who survived stroke after three months died within a year, with 12 per cent developing severe disability. “I can say without fear of contradiction that at least five out of 10 adults seated here tonight have elevated blood pressure and more than half of these are not aware of their situation. “This is frightening because the dire consequence of neglected hypertension is stroke without warning. Unless we take drastic and sustained actions, we will keep counting losses,” he said. |

Breaking News, Nation, News, Nigeria No Comments Print Email I Paid Fulani Herdsmen to stop Southern Kaduna Killings – El Rufai Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has stated that his administration traced violent and aggrieved Fulani herdsmen to their countries and paid them to stop the killings in Southern Kaduna. In his words; “For southern Kaduna, we didn’t understand what was going on and we decided to set up a committee under Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd) to l out what was going on there. What was established was that the root of the problem has a history starting from the 2011 post election violence. “Fulani herdsmen from across Africa bring their cattle down towards Middle Belt and Southern Nigeria. The moment the rains starts around March, April, they start moving them up to go back to their various communities and countries. “Unfortunately, it was when they were moving up with their cattle across Southern Kaduna that the elections of 2011 took place and the crisis trapped some of them. “Some of them were from Niger, Cameroon, Chad, Mali and Senegal. Fulanis are in 14 African countries and they traverse this country with the cattle. “So many of these people were killed, cattle lost and they organised themselves and came back to revenge. “So a lot of what was happening in Southern Kaduna was actually from outside Nigeria. We got a hint that the late Governor Patrick Yakowa got this information and he sent someone to go round some of these Fulani communities, but of course after he died, the whole thing stopped. That is what we inherited. But the Agwai committee established that. “We took certain steps. We got a group of people that were going round trying to trace some of these people in Cameroon, Niger republic and so on to tell them that there is a new governor who is Fulani like them and has no problem paying compensations for lives lost and he is begging them to stop killing. “In most of the communities, once that appeal was made to them, they said they have forgiven. There are one or two that asked for monetary compensation. They said they have forgiven the death of human beings, but want compensation for cattle. We said no problem, and we paid some. As recently as two weeks ago, the team went to Niger republic to attend one Fulani gathering that they hold every year with a message from me.” |

The mother of a female corps member, Ifedolapo Oladepo, who died at the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, orientation camp in Kano State has shared details of the deceased’s final moments. Oladepo, a First Class graduate of Transport Management from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, died on Tuesday and was laid to rest in her hometown in Osogbo, Osun State. Unconfirmed reports making the rounds have it that she died as a result of negligence from camp officials, who allegedly mistook her illness for pretense to avoid going out for parade. While the NYSC management is yet to comment on the incident, the mother of the deceased, Oyeyode Abimbola Inioluwa, on her Facebook page accused the NYSC of successfully cutting short her daughter’s destiny due to negligence. The grieving woman wrote: “You called me five hours to your death and told me to start coming as the NYSC doctors are not doing any thing for you; they thought you were pretending, you did not want to go for parade so they did not attend to you. “When you started calling people from home, they eventually gave you an injection; immediately after the injection, you called me again that you notice a lot of rashes on your body that I should speak with the doctor who refused to talk to me. You called five minutes later and told me your tongue is twisting. “They sent all your friends out after seeing all the reaction on your body, after giving you the unknown injection. You said we should ask for flight and I called immediately, they told me Abuja flight is Mon,wed &Fri. “I told you to tell anybody in the clinic that am a nurse they should allow me to speak to them; a male nurse took phone from you and told me you are having anaphylactic reaction and they will watch you for just one hour and transfer you to Aminu kano teaching hospital but alas they did not transfer you until 5hours later wen they noticed you are restless and calling people at home. “I boarded a bus going to kano with ur sister oladepo Kemisola Oladepo to come pick you from there, I begged them to take you to a teaching hospital around but they took you to General hospital gwazo where they have noting or little care to render. “They took your phone from you claiming you are not resting, from that 5’pm I could not talk to you,I took a 16 hours journey to make sure I get to you, but I was called around 3am that you gave up, without any doctor in the hospital to assist you, the only nurse on duty told me she tried her best. “Her best of staying beside you wen death was taking you away cos there was noting to use, from that 3am till I got to kano I was hoping it will only be a mix up somewhere, it can’t be you, got to kano and met you at aminu kano mortuary. “Alas it was you being put in that cold place. “Amokkkkkeeeeeeeeee Mi you couldn’t withstand the agony. “NYSC successfully cut your destiny due to negligence. “REST ON OUR QUEEN,if you are opportune to come back to the world pls coma as my daughter. “ADIEU Oladepo |

member of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari right from the days in the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Buba Galadima, has stated that nothing has changed in terms of corruption and looting of public funds in the present government. He said, “People are just stealing left, right and centre because of their initial fear that when this government comes in, they would be chased is no more there. So, it is business as usual in everything.” He said Nigeria is not only on a reverse gear, but on a standstill. Galadima was speaking with the Tribune at the weekend, where he noted that no aspect of the economy has witnessed development so far, saying that, “At least if it is not on a reverse gear it is on a standstill.” According to him, some elements of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are still controlling affairs in the country. “People who call the shots for 16 years still call the shots. So, how do you expect the government to move forward? Talk to any of the ministers individually and hear them talk. “In all human endeavours, there is no development. A lot of money was pumped into the economy and one is not seeing the impact of the money that was put into the economy. “The reason is simple, the government of change has not changed the personnel of those they call names every day. “They only decide they are giving money and they pay themselves because nobody has checked or cross checked or investigated what commitment the previous government held.” TRENDING NEWS: Akeredolu of |
