Well said Rebarobyn but I hope things will change.

The sad thing is that most people here keep on refering to Xhenophobia without looking at it's scale. It happened toa couple of townships and that doesn't reflect the whole of South Africa. I have been a member of nairaland forum for ages and that shows the interest I have in Nigeria and there are other South Africans who are living peacefully with the Nigerians. The effects os apartheid will take long to be dealt with and the frustration of people not getting employed while the ANC promised that jobs will be created for South Africans have created the hatred of illegal foreigners by Souh Africans because they being hired over South Africans but againt the government should put in place stringent laws of balancing employment of illegal foreigners and the locals. I blame the government for Xhenophobic attacks especially the Thabo Mbeki regime which was only looking after their own interests and failed plenty of South Africans.

Yes, foreginers have experienced Xhenophobia but the same thing happens amongst South Africans as well in a sense of people from one province believing that only people from the dominant ethnic group in that respective province should get employed or even get free houses. At the moment there is a tense environment between Xhosas and Tswanas in North-West province of South Africa and all this is as a result of apartheid.

@ blackspade, yes that's me buddy. It pisses me off when people comment throught their butt. Instead fo working towards a solution, people keep on saying bad things about a country which have accomodate large number of their people and some of us have even offered an advice so some of them. Pakestanese, Chinese and others are also being lashed against in SA and I think that's what happenes in every country even though I do not like the steretypeness. We got a large number of frstrated uneducated people who were the drivers of Xhenophobia but with educatiomn the cause have eased but people still see South Africa as a hell hole for Nigerians. The same South Africans being lashed at are the once supporting your brothers and sisters Hair Salons in the streets of Joburg, the support your movie and other Nigerian businesses. I'm seriously pissed.

Is this what you mean when you say Nigerians will run the show?

https://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss302/P_Sy/P1190159.jpg

I thought Nigerians were educated and broad minded people but from comments from somehere, I think I was wrong. It's amazing that you label black South Africans as lazy but they have brought the South African economy to the hrights, with exception of recession. If Nigerians were so good, why don't they run their show in a perfect way in their own country?

I for one and part of a group which bought property in the CBD of Jozi and wanted to hore one for business in Hillbrow which unfotunately is being hijacked by Nigerians. Nedbank Plaza, which belonged to the companed I worked for is also being hijacked by Nigerians. Yes, South Africans have got their own bad side by major drug busts in SA are by Nigerians. So what do you expect of us to think about Nigerians even though it's not fair to those who conduct their businesses properly?

Hillbrow is not infested by Nigerians who have turned the place into a sh*t hole because they don't know anything about being clean and taking place of were they staying. I was watching Eye on Lagos the other day and I couldn't believ how human being could stay in that kind of a place and i did understand as to why they not conducting themselves properly in Hillbrow and they do not even know anything about abiding by the laws. If Nigerians are that good why, don't they keep their places clean?

Before one comment, you need to seriosly think of what you gonna say. I wonder if there is any South African who wil be so desperate to eneter Nigeria with illegal documents like Nigerians do to come to South Africa. angry

I think we all playing typical African mentality of putting a blame on one another instead of, with differences that we may be having, try and approach things in a different way. If we continue like this we shall never progress as Africans. The problem is that most Nigerians are running business that do attract the middle class to their joints so that we can spend more money on them. The have hijacked buildings and turned them into squealers and hey, I'm not saying every Nigeria in bed as there are plenty of Nigerians who are playing a role in bettering the lives of our people like Doctors and Engineers. The pics I posted were taken by me as per other Johannesburg pics that I have posted in other forums.

My reason for creating this thread is so that we can share ideas and help each other think better and approach other people differently. I'm not denying the fact that Nigerians are not the most popular people in the country because of the crimes that are always reported on TV done by them but I would to see that change.

I would like to see Nigerians having their own area were an ordinary South African can always go buy Agege bread and other Nigerian stuff. We have places were one will find Chinese Town, Indian Squares but there isn't any Nigerian one and I ask why? Having to say that we totally hate you guys is another statement as Africa Magic channel is one of the most viewed in South Africa and please contact your nearest multi choice office and query that. If we have Nigerians hair Salons are the most busiest in Johannesburg?

For running businesses in SA for Nigerians is about creating an environment that will most especially allow the middle class to spend their money there. Well in terms of difficulty of opening businesses in SA, I'm sure change will come now as the autocrat President Thabo Mbeki is no more. If it wasn't because of Mbeki, I really don't think that there will be Xenophobia. South African companies especially those in the food industry were hiring illegal immigrants and pay them peanuts while our people struggled and we have more than 24% of unemployment rate so people got frustrated and hence the violence but that has been resolved. We all should play a role in making sure that it never happens again.

Hillbrow is being labelled little Nigeria and that's because of a large number of people of Nigerian descent in the area and unfortunately since they infiltrated the area things are not the same. Buildings have dilapidated and there was high crime rate and drugs were a norm but the municipality invested tens of millions of rands to upgrade the area which it's cleanliness lasted for just over a month and havoc started again. I would like to see big Nigerian business people investing in that area and making it a better place for all.

We need to fight the stereotype, we need to leave differences aside and focus on the negative. We need o learn to prioritise and say "we shall leave the differences and only focus on making an African child benefit from an African soil".

Hi Guys and ladies,

It's being a long time since I last visited Nairaland and I'm glad to be back again.

I'm saddened by the fact that I do not see Nigerian restaurants, other food outlets and even cultural activities in South Africa, specifically Johannesburg. All we see is ome filthy shops in streets of Hillbrow which do not give justice at all to our city. It's sad that there are some Nigerians who have given Nigeria a bad name by being being drug lords and even hijacking most buildings in the CBD of Johannesburg. I would like to see Nigerians making it big in out country as I have heard enough of Indians and Chinese making it ork for themselves. I would like Nigerian business owners to own Hillbrow and make sure that it's a clean and a safe place. It's unfair to have South Africans running businesses in your country but you don't do the same in SA.

It's not cool for a place to look like this even though the city have invested millions into upgrading pavements, streets lights, planting trees and cleaning it everyday.

PoliticsRe: Good Things Happening In Nigeria by Puleza(m): 2:03pm On May 13, 2008
I agree with all those who say that the Nija future is in the hands of the ordinary Nigerian. We need to give our African government a chance and help then instead of doing a lot of complaining. I'm a South African and believe that one day Nigeria will concur but all these can be achieve though ordinary Nigerians taking stand and making sure that your country works for itself.

The western nations have made us to degrade our leaders even though they doing good. Why should we as Africans not work together for once. I once attended a Black Management Forum summit in Sandton and Peter Moyo was telling us about young Nigerian professionals who are doing things for themselves. He told us how proud he is about Nigerians and mind you he's a South African.

I hope you will all participate in Skyscrapercity and learn more about the posetives happening in your country and you will start appriciating the focus that your leaders have. Its sad to learn about the 419 scam rather learning about those good developments that are taking place in Nigeria.

I would like to visit nigeria one day and will be proud to see my black brothers and sisters helping one another and irradicating poverty. This is the time for us to reclaim Africa and own resources that our continent offers. I dream of the day when i will be able to go do shopping in Luanda, Angola instead of London or Paris, the day when I will be on a vacation travel in a high speed rail between Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria and other countries. I dream of the day when the African Nations Cup will even be admired by the Europeans and yes all these can happen and all it needs is for us to stand together and trade amongs ourselves.

Nigeria needs you my brothers and sisters and you are the ones who need to open coffee shops, resturants etc in Lagos so that you help in the change that is taking place.
TravelRe: South African Vacation: Education Me Pls by Puleza(m): 12:29pm On Jan 07, 2008
As far as I know Nigerians are criminals and people over the world don't want to see them in their country at all. They sell drugs and kill people.

But is this true, No I don't think so.

These are rumours, not every Nigerian is part of a 419 scam, not every Nigerian is a drug dealer. Hillbrow in Johannesburg is dominated by Nigerian guys and it has deteriorated since they moved in. They throw rubbish every where and they even urinate on streets. Does this mean that all Nigerians are as bad as that? My answer is no, there are still good Nigerians residing in Hillbrow and they are in South Africa for a good reason so reading that article by an uninformed guy is irritating. I have a friend who is working in Abuja on a contract and he has told me how beautiful the place is and how friendly the people are.

We as Africans tend to believe the western media and even some of our journalist report bad about our own people. We need to open ours eyes and ears. All those who have been to South Africa are praising it for its beauty and I thank them for that. The problem with people tending to be barbaric to Nigerians, and that's if they don't know you, is the fact that some criminals came to South Africa and gave Nigerians a bad name. They stole, killed and even made some of our cities and towns look like pig st ye. Those Nigerians who run businesses in SA are supported by locals because they doing a good thing.

I would love to see Lagos being recognised as one of the best city in the world. I don't stress about American medias like CNN who are stereotype. I have learnt from skyscrapercity that Lagos is growing and becoming a better city by the day. This is time for us Africans to grow and how these people that we can do it for ourselves.

I'm a South African and Proudly African. We also need to learn to support our black brothers and sisters businesses rather than supporting other nations.

I'm a South African but I do respect all other countries and I hate it when you Nigerians are busy talking crap about your own country as that's what makes us bad of your country. The reason why mostl South Africans don't like other fricans is because of the crime they have commited.

Otherwise I think I need to divert the topic. I thought I should post the good things that are planned for Nigeria so that you people will stop blaming your politicians but instead appriciate the good things that are happening there and be actve in economic growth.

The following are what's gonna happen in Nigeria.

Federal Government gives its approval for Nigeria's Technology Valley

12/5/2005

Vanguard (Lagos)

Emeka Nwosu

The Federal Government recently approved the establishment of a Technology Village for software and manpower development in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in Abuja, Nigeria's federal capital. The tech village is expected to cost between $600 to 800 Million Dollars.

According to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el Rufai, who appears to be prime motivator behind the initiative, "what we hope to do with the village is to have the highest quality infrastructure attracting the best brains in information and bio-technology, pharmaceutical and IT research". The technology village is expected to provide employment for about 60,000 people, with the eventual aim of boosting growth and performance through information technology.

The Minister said though the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology had been working on the village since 2001, Nigerians in the diaspora interested in the village made it a reality by investing millions of dollars to do the business plan and feasibility study.

One of the aims of Nigeria's IT policy is for Nigeria to be an exporter of information technology products. India, which has already led other developing nations in this regard, benefits tremendously from the performance of its information technology industry. India is today the recognized and leading IT outsourcing hub in the world. With the global trend indicating phenomenal growth in outsourcing Nigeria can't afford to be left behind.

Some have dubbed the technology as Nigeria's Silicon Valley. The aim of the National IT policy and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is ensure Nigeria as a nation not just benefits from the advances in information technology, but also becomes a key player in information technology.

While information about the technology village mentions the involvement of Nigerians in diaspora, reports indicate that it is largely a government affair with still little input from local IT professionals.

Interesting some active participants in Nigeria's ICT sector are not too enamored with the choice of Abuja. For instance, the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria would have preferred a development of Ikeja technology market - also known as the computer village - in Lagos which is Nigeria's current IT hotspot. And for many involved in IT, Lagos and not Abuja is where most IT activities are currently concentrated.

However, to make a meaningful impact, it is expected that the tech village will be a collaborative effort that addresses issues involving all stakeholders. It certainly appears to be a positive step for information technology empowerment in Nigeria.

The construction will begin in early 2007.

This is another stupidity from Africans. Why making argument out of nothing. Yes the police statistcs have shown that most people who cimmit crime in South Africa are illegal immigrants. I do not hate other African brothers and have got Nigerian friends whom I buy Nigerian movies from, but if you come to the filthy parts of Joburg you will expericnce selling of drugs by the Nigerian brothers and those are the ones that I want to see out fo our beutiful country. I do not care if you are a South African or not but if you do crime you are bad.

When are we as Africans gonna recognisze our strenght and support one another? Why do we have beef against one another? Why can't we advice each other to build a kingdom of the world economy?

TravelRe: When Will Nigeria Build A City Like This? by Puleza(m): 3:57am On Jul 21, 2006
What I meant about "Whites" was the fact that the Nigerian Polotical leaders act and think like whites who didn't care about the rest of the black majority in South Africa. The stadium is to be build by one of South Africa's Soccer Billionare and he used to play soccer himself and he started the soccer team soon after arriving from the US in the early 70s. I hope the like of JJ Okocha, Ngwanko Kanu and so forth will also invest back into the community.

Yes, I agree with the guy who says that we need not to blame the politicians solely, you the people of Nigeria need to also take responsibility by forcing your local municipalities to create by laws and so forth. On the last local government elections in South Africa, the President of the ANC, The Hounarable Thabo Mbeki, promised the nation a better service and the now elected local governemnts are made to sign 3 months contracts for which after that their service are evaluated and if you fail you are taken out of the office immdeiately. Why can't Obasanjo introduce the same thing?

We should learn from each other as Africans. The West, The Asians, Europeans etc are helping one another and they thrive for making sure that the people's lives are better, why can't our African governments do better. Which African nation is rich through oil? The answer is none. We got so many natural resources in our continent but they are being utilised by Europeans for the own benefits.

I think this is the time for you Nigerians to stop complaining and make sure that you take upon yourselves to make your country a better place. I love Nigeria as I said before and I hope everyone will rise to the occasion and realise that Nigeria can easily be a better country than South Africa and money other countries accross the world.

That's the sad part of Africa, I'm glad that the likes of Mozambique and Angola ahev now got goal-focused presidents. Plenty of South Africans are buying land and building properties in Mozambique.

Hi guys,

I think we should give Nigeria sometime and things will get up to speed. I heard that the tallest Highrise is been proposed for Abuja. I hope that it gets constructed soon. If you go to www.skyscrapercity.com, under African forum, you will see that there are plans in place to uplift Nigeria.

The problem with  our African countries is that they leave the place to be dilapidated first and then after they want to fix it and it costs more. I'm a South African and even though I haven't been in Nigeria, I must say that I will be glad being one of the Super Powers in the World.

Jah, Durban is beutiful. I went there the past weekend to watch Manchester United playing one of our local teams.

I have attached the design of the 2010 Soccer Stadium. Constraction will be starting in September or so. They are busy with dismantling the other existing stadium, but they will leave the rugby stadium.

The guys in Durban mean business. Here is King Senzangakhona Stadium for 2010 and beyond.

BusinessRe: How Can We Move Nigeria Forward? by Puleza(m): 8:53am On Mar 02, 2006
Hi,

I'm not a Nigerian but as an African I think I'm a Nigerian at heart. I think the middle class of Nigeria holds the key to making sure that the country becomes succesful. We as Africans are very much dedicated to the religions that were imposed upon us by Europeans, but we fail to be dedicated the same way towards making sure that the economy of the likes of Nigeria booms.

I think that meetings should be held by the middle-class and the poor who are serious about businesses and all. It will take the people od Nigeria's efforts to make sure that their country becomes succesful. I think that Proudly Nigerian mentality should be started at lower primary schools and children should also be taught not to throw papers on the streets and they should preserve the beuty of their country.

I love Nigeria and I believe that not only oil can make Nigeria the best in the world but the hard work of the people will. Go out there talk to the likes of Pepsi, Coca-Cola, MTN etc, tell them to support your business like having to build plastic shelters for the people who are selling at street corners. Talk to your local municipalities to impose laws that will make sure that for ever projects that you have at leats half of the people should be coming form the place where the project is.

Come on people, you can do it. For the fact that you manged to start this kind of a topic it simply means that you are concerned. negetive people who fled Nigeria and other African countries should stay where they are. We must work together and share the wealth of our beutiful continent. We as the working class we need to use this kinds of media to share ideas.

Car TalkRe: South Africa To Acquire Rights To Produce Nigerian Cars. by Puleza(m): 3:24am On Mar 01, 2006
Hi Guys,

I'm a South African and this are my answers to this questions -

sorry to puncture your bubble, we are absolutely far from being "one big happy family of africans"! put on your thinking cap, if that was so why did the southafricans insist the car must be produced in their country and not that of the owner?
- because South Africa doesn't want this to be another African failure, President Mbeki is supporting African renaisance and I promise you as soon as the Nigerian Government support the project, it will be back in your country.

Why do you need a visa (with stringent conditions) to travel to other "family" of african nations including SA?
- In 2010, there will be only one VISA fro visitors to SADC country, this is an improvement by the SA government, I hope to see on for the whole of Africa soon.

Why is cameroun deporting nigerians?
- Most of the Nigerian guys are operating illigal businesses and are using our brothers in South Africa for drug-smuggling and they have killed plenty of them, I'm sure the same thing will happen in South Africa as the SA Government have issued a warning against them. Nigerians who are running their normal businesses are supported by South Africans, but the only problem that might have the governemnt dealing with them is that they mess up every place where they setup a business.

Why are we fighting over bakaassi? can't we just share it as "brothers"?
- That's very stupid and I agree with you my brother, aforum like this well help us to share ideas. We need to start educating our young brothers and sisters about the way they need to grow and improve the situation in Africa.

I wish Nigeria all the best. I was dissapointed to see the state of Lagos this days, its filthy and in very bad conditions. Government need to fund projects to make it a better place.
PoliticsWe Africans Are The Architects Of Our Poverty by Puleza(op): 2:23am On Mar 01, 2006
Hi Guys,

I'm from South Africa and I'm very much in love with Nigeria. One thing i would like to say before i start with the main topic is that you must get a copy of Capitalist Nigger by Dr. Chika Onyeane. I know plenty of people will say that he deserted Nigeria for the US, but the truth of the matter is that his departure is the one that opened up his eyes and unlike others he is sharing information with us.

I fail to understand as to why Nigeria is not counted as one of the rich countries in the world because its got the most sort after resource, OIL. We as Africans are digging of own craves of failure. We are preparing ourselves to be poor and depend on other nations. I think we people on the ground need to take a stand and say "enough is enough". Corruption is the key to African failure, yes corruption does exist in other parts of the world, but at least administrators there do delivery on ther election promises.

I must say that South African President Mr. Thabo Mbeki is doing a wonderful job in South Africa. South Africa is reaching heights and poverty is surely being eliviated. Its easy than ever before as a group of youths to get funding for opening up a businesses in South Africa. The economy is booming and the people are working hard to help the government to achieve its economic target.

The following services are offered for free for the poor is South Africa -
1. 600l of Clean water for free every month.
2. Thousands of Kilowatts (Electricity) are offered for free to the poor.
3. Child grants.
4. Pension grants for the elders.
5. Free housing.

I mean Nigerian government can afford to do more than this. Why should this people do this to our African brothers and sisters. We as Africans are more opresses than when we were opressed by a white man.
TV/MoviesRe: Aki and Pawpaw: Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme by Puleza(m): 1:57am On Mar 01, 2006
I must say that those boys are true comdeians, especailly Osita Iheme. You guys must check out Mr Ibu and you will really get the grip of Osiat. I must say that in Johannesburg, South Africa their movies are bought like hot cakes. They do their comedy in true African style instead of copying the Americans.

Big ups to them, I got a collection of their movies. I love them.
