PoliticsScores Killed As Troops Repel Boko Haram Attacks On Naval Base In Lake Chad by Putindbutt(op): 12:16pm On Jun 18, 2025
It was gathered that the terrorists launched the attack around 2am, targeting newly acquired swamp bogeys deployed by the Borno State Government for waterway clearance operations.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised scores of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during a foiled attempt to infiltrate the Naval Base at Lake Chad Fish Dam in the early hours of Wednesday.

It was gathered that the terrorists launched the attack around 2am, targeting newly acquired swamp bogeys deployed by the Borno State Government for waterway clearance operations.

However, alert naval personnel fiercely resisted the incursion with reinforcements from Baga, engaging the insurgents in a two-hour firefight.
The Nigerian military explained that the terrorists intended to destroy the swamp bogeys, but their advance was effectively repelled.

Many of them were neutralised, and several improvised explosive device (IED) materials were recovered.

A statement by the Nigerian military on Wednesday confirmed the incident, noting that although minimal incursion was made, it resulted in the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles.

However, some personnel also sustained injuries during the exchange.

Meanwhile, air component platforms of Operation Hadin Kai are currently conducting follow-up operations along the waterways to pursue and eliminate fleeing terrorists.

The statement read, "In a well-coordinated joint land, maritime and air operations troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralized scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists that attempted to infiltrate the Naval Base Lake Chad in Fish Dam during the early hours of today.

"The terrorists commenced their infiltration attack at about 2 AM to destroy the newly acquired Swamp Boggeys by the Borno State Government for waterways clearance in the Lake Chad but was fiercely resisted by personnel of the Naval Base Lake Chad with reinforcement from Baga in a firefight that lasted for over two hours before the terrorists retreated having failed to gain access to the Swamp Boggeys while scores were neutralised and IED materials recovered."

"Minimal incursion was made leading to the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles while some personnel were wounded in action. The air component platforms are currently conducting follow on pursuit exploitation on the water ways to further decimate the terrorists," the statement added.

When citizens speak out against misgovernance and irresponsibility, they’re labeled enemies of the state. Meanwhile, your ‘leader’ is vacationing in Saint Lucia while Nigerians are being buried. President is in Benue today, the visit is still on the 28th. But as usual, bitter people will open mouth and cry needlessly. They mount on rooftops to cry over any negative news but when terrorists are being killed, they crawl back under their beds.. enemies of the state dem.

PoliticsYakubu Hails Tinubu, Wike Over INEC New Office Building by Putindbutt(op): 8:16pm On Jun 17, 2025
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, has hailed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT and President Bola Tinubu over the construction of a new anex office for the electoral body.

Yakubu spoke on the occassion of the ground breaking ceremony of the new Annex Office of the Commission located located at Zambezi Crescent, Abuja on Tuesday.

The ground breaking ceremony of the INEC Annex Building was performed by President Tinubu. The building would complement the current headquarters of the Commission located in Maitama, Abuja.

Yakubu noted that the commission has been grappling with inadequate office accommodation for a long time, as its present national headquarters is severely congested.

He said, “Every facility is overstretched from offices to meeting rooms for the Commission’s 15 standing Committees and other activities, including regular engagements with stakeholders,” he said.

“General staff meetings always take place outside the Commission. In response, the Commission was compelled to rent two buildings in Wuse Zone II to ease the situation.

“Over the last ten years, we made every effort to alleviate the situation until sometime last year when the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory came to the rescue.

“As the end user of the facility, our technical department submitted the concept of the proposed building which is what the FCT is currently executing.

“The main building opposite the present site shall remain the National Headquarters of the Commission. When completed, the new building will complement the main building.

He said, “Every facility is overstretched from offices to meeting rooms for the Commission’s 15 standing Committees and other activities, including regular engagements with stakeholders,” he said.

“At this point, all that remains for me, on behalf of the Commissioners and staff of the Commission, is to thank Your Excellency Mr. President for making it happen and for your personal presence.

“I would also like to appreciate the presence of the Senate President, Rt. Hon. Speaker of the House of Representatives. We are similarly appreciative of the Honourable Minister of the FCT for his diligent pursuit of the project as well as the leadership of the Joint Committee on Electoral Matters in the National Assembly, leaders of political parties and all stakeholders for their presence and support.”

Long overdue , it's very annoying how the airline makes it look like they're doing you a favor. There must be heavy sanctions to set an example.
TravelFCCPC Summons Air Peace Over Flight Cancellations, Unpaid Refunds by Putindbutt(op): 2:22pm On Jun 17, 2025
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has summoned the management of Air Peace Limited following multiple complaints from passengers regarding non-refunded ticket fares, even in cases where the airline cancelled scheduled flights.

In a formal notice dated June 3, 2025, the Commission ordered Air Peace to appear at its Abuja headquarters on Monday, June 23, 2025, to address growing public outcry and allegations of consumer rights violations.

A statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, disclosed the directive on Monday in Abuja.

Ijagwu stated that the airline’s actions contravene Sections 130(1)(a) and (b), and 130(2)(b) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, which guarantee consumers the right to prompt refunds when bookings or reservations are not honoured due to a service provider’s failure.

He explained that the summons was issued pursuant to Sections 32 and 33 of the Act, requiring Air Peace to provide specific documentary evidence. This includes a complaint log of refund-related issues over the past 12 months, records of all processed refunds to date, a list of all cancelled flights on all routes within the same period, and measures taken to alleviate hardship caused to affected passengers.

The statement read: “The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has summoned the management of Air Peace Limited over a deluge of consumer complaints from across the country relating to the non-refund of ticket fares, even in instances where the airline had cancelled its flight operations.

“These actions potentially contravene Sections 130(1)(a) and (b), and 130(2)(b) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, which expressly guarantee consumers the right to timely refunds where advance bookings, reservations, or orders are unfulfilled due to a service provider’s failure. This provision enshrines the principle of fair dealing and safeguards consumers against unfair, unjust, or unreasonable practices by service providers.

“In a formal summons dated June 13, 2025, the Commission, invoking Sections 32 and 33 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, requires Air Peace to appear before the Commission at its Abuja Headquarters on Monday, June 23, 2025.

“Specifically, Section 33(3) of the FCCPA mandates compliance, and failure attracts severe sanctions, including fines or imprisonment.”

Although not mentioned in the statement, the summons comes days after Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Air Peace officials were embroiled in a dispute over alleged extortion of Nigerian passengers.

The situation escalated when the senator reportedly missed a flight, which he claimed was due to racketeering by airline officials. While Air Peace asserted that Oshiomhole arrived at the airport late, the senator maintained that he, along with other angry passengers, witnessed staff boarding passengers who arrived later.

Oshiomhole said that around 20 to 30 other passengers faced similar treatment, with airline staff allegedly demanding an additional N109,100 to reschedule them to an 8:30 am flight.

PoliticsWork Resumes On Enugu-onitsha Dual Carriageway, To Last 50 Years by Putindbutt(op): 6:41pm On Jun 16, 2025
The reconstruction of the second lane of the 72-kilometre 82 Division–9th Mile section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has officially commenced, with Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, declaring that the new concrete-based road design is expected to last 50 years.

The right-hand lane of the dual carriageway, stretching from Abakpa Junction (82 Division), was completed last year. However, work on the left lane stalled following a dispute between the Federal Ministry of Works and the original contractor, who failed to deliver on the project. The contract was subsequently reassigned to a new firm, paving the way for the continuation of construction this month.

Speaking exclusively with Vanguard, Umahi revealed that the road’s reconstruction is being executed using rigid concrete pavement, instead of the traditional asphalt, in line with the ministry’s new infrastructure standards.

He said the approach mirrors that used in the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, part of which was recently commissioned by President Bola Tinubu during his one-year anniversary in office.

“This lane is on concrete like the coastal road and will last 50 years,” Umahi stated.

Given the challenging terrain along the Enugu-Onitsha corridor—particularly around the Ugwuonyeama axis, notorious for its steep gradients and accident record—the ministry has adopted a mix of cutting-edge engineering solutions to enhance the road’s durability and safety.

These include: Concrete embankments to provide a solid foundation in areas with soft or unstable soil;

Geofabrics, a synthetic material to prevent erosion and reinforce soil integrity;
Sand layering, used alongside geofabrics to stabilize embankments and mitigate environmental degradation.

According to the Federal Ministry of Works, this multi-layered approach is aimed at ensuring the expressway remains resilient against weathering and erosion, especially in flood-prone or high-gradient areas.

“The use of these materials reflects the project’s focus on durability, safety, and sustainability,” Umahi added.

The Enugu-Onitsha Expressway is a critical transport link between the South-East and South-South regions, facilitating economic activities and interstate travel.

Its long-overdue reconstruction has been a major demand by road users and residents alike, and the renewed effort is being widely welcomed as a step in the right direction.
