A chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, Alhaji Azi Magama-Daji, has been killed by suspected armed robbers who invaded his home at Magama Daji area of the community .
According to the Tribune, which reported the news, the robbers gained entrance into the compound and entered the bedroom of the deceased, where an argument was said to have ensued and the robbers allegedly threatened to kill him, after which gunshots were heard. The PDPchieftain was said to have been killedin the attack, while two of the robbers were also killed.
It was also revealed that other members of the gang fled the scene, as the villagers allegedly mobilised a counter attack, with their locally made dane guns, stones and other dangerous objects. According to sources, the wife and children of the leader of the suspected hoodlums immediately sought refuge at the police post for fear for their lives, after the villagers discovered the identity of the gang members.
Meanwhile, confirming the incident the state Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Pius Edobor, said the police had commenced investigation into the matter.
