Hadith describing the process of birth and the destiny of the person Narrated by 'Abdullah: Allah's Apostle, the truthful and truly-inspired, said, "Each one of you collected in the womb of his mother for forty days, and then turns into a clot for an equal period (of forty days) and turns into a piece of flesh for a similar period (of forty days) and then Allah sends an angel and orders him to write four things, i.e., his provision, his age, and whether he will be of the wretched or the blessed (in the Hereafter). Then the soul is breathed into him. And by Allah, a person among you (or a man) may do deeds of the people of the Fire till there is only a cubit or an arm-breadth distance between him and the Fire, but then that writing (which Allah has ordered the angel to write) precedes, and he does the deeds of the people of Paradise and enters it; and a man may do the deeds of the people of Paradise till there is only a cubit or two between him and Paradise, and then that writing precedes and he does the deeds of the people of the Fire and enters it." (Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 77, Number 593) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Narrated by Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said, "Allah puts an angel in charge of the uterus and the angel says, 'O Lord, (it is) semen! O Lord, (it is now ) a clot! O Lord, (it is now) a piece of flesh.' And then, if Allah wishes to complete its creation, the angel asks, 'O Lord, (will it be) a male or a female? A wretched (an evil doer) or a blessed (doer of good)? How much will his provisions be? What will his age be?' So all that is written while the creature is still in the mother's womb." (Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 77, Number 594) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Narrated by Imran bin Husain: A man said, "O Allah's Apostle! Can the people of Paradise be known (differentiated) from the people of the Fire; The Prophet replied, "Yes." The man said, "Why do people (try to) do (good) deeds?" The Prophet said, "Everyone will do the deeds for which he has been created to do or he will do those deeds which will be made easy for him to do." (i.e. everybody will find easy to do such deeds as will lead him to his destined place for which he has been created). (Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 77, Number 595) |
Hadith on what to do after having a bad dream Narrated by Abu Qatada: The Prophet said, "A good dream that comes true is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan, so if anyone of you sees a bad dream, he should seek refuge with Allah from Satan and should spit on the left, for the bad dream will not harm him." (Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 87, Number 115) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Narrated by Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, "If anyone of you sees a dream that he likes, then it is from Allah, and he should thank Allah for it and narrate it to others; but if he sees something else, i.e., a dream that he dislikes, then it is from Satan, and he should seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and he should not mention it to anybody, for it will not harm him." (Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 87, Number 114) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Narrated by Abu Qatada: The Prophet said, "A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan. So whoever has seen (in a dream) something he dislike, then he should spit without saliva, thrice on his left and seek refuge with Allah from Satan, for it will not harm him, and Satan cannot appear in my shape." A slave who discharges his duties to Allah and his master. 3. After Ishmael's mother had died, Abraham came after Ishmael's marriage in order to see his family that he had left before, but he did not find Ishmael there. When he asked Ishmael's wife about him, she replied, 'He has gone in search of our livelihood.' Then he asked her about their way of living and their condition, and she replied, 'We are living in misery; we are living in hardship and destitution,' complaining to him. He said, 'When your husband returns, convey my salutation to him and tell him to change the threshold of the gate (of his house).' When Ishmael came, he seemed to have felt something unusual, so he asked his wife, 'Has anyone visited you?' She replied, 'Yes, an old man of so-and-so description came and asked me about you and I informed him, and he asked about our state of living, and I told him that we were living in a hardship and poverty.' On that Ishmael said, 'Did he advise you anything?' She replied, 'Yes, he told me to convey his salutation to you and to tell you to change the threshold of your gate.' Ishmael said, 'It was my father, and he has ordered me to divorce you. Go back to your family.' So, Ishmael divorced her and married another woman from amongst them (i.e. Jurhum). Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished and called on them again but did not find Ishmael. So he came to Ishmael's wife and asked her about Ishmael. She said, 'He has gone in search of our livelihood.' Abraham asked her, 'How are you getting on?' asking her about their sustenance and living. She replied, 'We are prosperous and well-off (i.e. we have everything in abundance).' Then she thanked Allah' Abraham said, 'What kind of food do you eat?' She said. 'Meat.' He said, 'What do you drink?' She said, 'Water." He said, "O Allah! Bless their meat and water." The Prophet added, "At that time they did not have grain, and if they had grain, he would have also invoked Allah to bless it." The Prophet added, "If somebody has only these two things as his sustenance, his health and disposition will be badly affected, unless he lives in Mecca." The Prophet added," Then Abraham said Ishmael's wife, "When your husband comes, give my regards to him and tell him that he should keep firm the threshold of his gate.' When Ishmael came back, he asked his wife, 'Did anyone call on you?' She replied, 'Yes, a good-looking old man came to me,' so she praised him and added. 'He asked about you, and I informed him, and he asked about our livelihood and I told him that we were in a good condition.' Ishmael asked her, 'Did he give you any piece of advice?' She said, 'Yes, he told me to give his regards to you and ordered that you should keep firm the threshold of your gate.' On that Ishmael said, 'It was my father, and you are the threshold (of the gate). He has ordered me to keep you with me.' Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished, and called on them afterwards. He saw Ishmael under a tree near Zamzam, sharpening his arrows. When he saw Abraham, he rose up to welcome him (and they greeted each other as a father does with his son or a son does with his father). Abraham said, 'O Ishmael! Allah has given me an order.' Ishmael said, 'Do what your Lord has ordered you to do.' Abraham asked, 'Will you help me?' Ishmael said, 'I will help you.' Abraham said, Allah has ordered me to build a house here,' pointing to a hillock higher than the land surrounding it." The Prophet added, "Then they raised the foundations of the House (i.e. the Ka'ba). Ishmael brought the stones and Abraham was building, and when the walls became high, Ishmael brought this stone and put it for Abraham who stood over it and carried on building, while Ishmael was handing him the stones, and both of them were saying, 'O our Lord! Accept (this service) from us, Verily, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.' The Prophet added, "Then both of them went on building and going round the Ka'ba saying: O our Lord ! Accept (this service) from us, Verily, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." (2.127) (Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 55, Number 583) Then she thanked Allah |
The Prophet said, "This is the source of the tradition of the walking of people between them (i.e. Safa and Marwa). When she reached the Marwa (for the last time) she heard a voice and she asked herself to be quiet and listened attentively. She heard the voice again and said, 'O, (whoever you may be)! You have made me hear your voice; have you got something to help me?" And behold! She saw an angel at the place of Zam-zam, digging the earth with his heel (or his wing), till water flowed from that place. She started to make something like a basin around it, using her hand in this way, and started filling her water-skin with water with her hands, and the water was flowing out after she had scooped some of it." The Prophet added, "May Allah bestow Mercy on Ishmael's mother! Had she let the Zam-zam (flow without trying to control it) (or had she not scooped from that water) (to fill her water-skin), Zam-zam would have been a stream flowing on the surface of the earth." The Prophet further added, "Then she drank (water) and suckled her child. The angel said to her, 'Don't be afraid of being neglected, for this is the House of Allah which will be built by this boy and his father, and Allah never neglects His people.' The House (i.e. Kaba) at that time was on a high place resembling a hillock, and when torrents came, they flowed to its right and left. She lived in that way till some people from the tribe of Jurhum or a family from Jurhum passed by her and her child, as they (i.e. the Jurhum people) were coming through the way of Kada'. They landed in the lower part of Mecca where they saw a bird that had the habit of flying around water and not leaving it. They said, 'This bird must be flying around water, though we know that there is no water in this valley.' They sent one or two messengers who discovered the source of water, and returned to inform them of the water. So, they all came (towards the water)." The Prophet added, "Ishmael's mother was sitting near the water. They asked her, 'Do you allow us to stay with you?" She replied, 'Yes, but you will have no right to possess the water.' They agreed to that." The Prophet further said, "Ishmael's mother was pleased with the whole situation as she used to love to enjoy the company of the people. So, they settled there, and later on they sent for their families who came and settled with them so that some families became permanent residents there. The child (i.e. Ishmael) grew up and learnt Arabic from them and (his virtues) caused them to love and admire him as he grew up, and when he reached the age of puberty they made him marry a woman from amongst them. The Hadith has been broken down for easy digest. Narrated by Ibn Abbas: The first lady to use a girdle was the mother of Ishmael. She used a girdle so that she might hide her tracks from Sarah. Abraham brought her and her son Ishmael while she was suckling him, to a place near the Ka'ba under a tree on the spot of Zam-zam, at the highest place in the mosque. During those days there was nobody in Mecca, nor was there any water So he made them sit over there and placed near them a leather bag containing some dates, and a small water-skin containing some water, and set out homeward. Ishmael's mother followed him saying, "O Abraham! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no person whose company we may enjoy, nor is there anything (to enjoy)?" She repeated that to him many times, but he did not look back at her Then she asked him, "Has Allah ordered you to do so?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Then He will not neglect us," and returned while Abraham proceeded onwards, and on reaching the Thaniya where they could not see him, he faced the Ka'ba, and raising both hands, invoked Allah saying the following prayers: 'O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Your Sacred House (Kaba at Mecca) in order, O our Lord, that they may offer prayer perfectly. So fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits, so that they may give thanks.' (14.37) Ishmael's mother went on suckling Ishmael and drinking from the water (she had). When the water in the water-skin had all been used up, she became thirsty and her child also became thirsty. She started looking at him (i.e. Ishmael) tossing in agony; She left him, for she could not endure looking at him, and found that the mountain of Safa was the nearest mountain to her on that land. She stood on it and started looking at the valley keenly so that she might see somebody, but she could not see anybody. Then she descended from Safa and when she reached the valley, she tucked up her robe and ran in the valley like a person in distress and trouble, till she crossed the valley and reached the Marwa mountain where she stood and started looking, expecting to see somebody, but she could not see anybody. She repeated that (running between Safa and Marwa) seven times." To be continued |

Wrong understandings Regarding some of the Rulings of Wudu – Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya By AbdurRahman.Org in Abbas Abu Yahya , Tahara Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya All Praise belongs to Allaah, may His peace and blessings be upon our final Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions and all those who follow him 1 – Some people presume that it is not allowed to perform Wudu whilst being uncovered! The noble scholar AbdulAziz Ibn Baz said: ‘Covering ones private parts is not a condition in the correctness of Wudu [1].’ [Fatawa Ibn Baz 10/101] 2 – Some people presume that if one precedes washing a limb from the left hand side before one from the right hand side then their Wudu is not correct. Imam Nawawi said: ‘The scholars are in consensus that preceding the right over that of the left from washing the hands and feet in Wudu is a Sunnah , if it is opposed in washing [left before the right] then a virtue is missed out on but the Wudu is correct.’ [Sharh Saheeh Muslim 3/160] 3 – Many people raise their finger whilst reciting the testification of Islaam after Wudu. ‘Allaama Ibn Uthaymeen said: ‘I do not know of a foundation for this action.’ [Fatawa noor ala Darb 8/117] 4 – Some people think that if you touched some impurity that you have to repeat your Wudu from the beginning! ‘Allaama Ibn Uthaymeen said: ‘Stepping upon impurities while it is moist does not invalidate the Wudu, however, it is upon the person to purify that which it is obligatory to purify; meaning you only have to purify the place that was affected by the impurity.’ [Fatawa Ibn Uthaymeen 52/119] 6 – Many people find it difficult in themselves to wipe over socks which have be holes in them. ‘Allaama Ibn Uthaymeen said: ‘It is permissible to wipe over socks which have holes in them and it is permissible to wipe over thin Khuff (leather socks), because many of the Companions were poor, and generally the poor have Khuff which have holes in them. [Fatawa Ibn Uthaymeen 11/116] 7 – Some people wipe over socks which have pictures on them of those things which posses a soul. ‘Allaama Ibn Uthaymeen said: ‘It is not permissible to wipe over a sock which had a picture of an animal on it because wiping over the Khuff is an allowance and it is not allowed with sinning.’ [Fatawa Ibn Uthaymeen 11/116] [1] T.N. e.g. making Wudu while having a shower. |

Praise be to Allah. Marijuana is an intoxicating substance; it is derived from the cannabis plant ( Cannabis indica ), which is a plant that has an intoxicating effect. Based on that, the ruling on it is that it is haraam (prohibited), as has previously been stated in detail and with evidence in fatwa no. 176545 With regard to mescaline, it is a substance derived from a type of cactus that is known in north-eastern Mexico as peyote. It is an intoxicating compound which causes hallucinations and colourful visions. Psilocybin is a substance derived from some mushrooms, such as the Mexican psilocybin mushroom. This is also an intoxicating substance, with a stronger effect than mescaline With regard to what you mentioned about LSD, this is another name for lysergic acid diethylamide. It was first synthesized in 1938 by a Swiss pharmacist called Albert Hofmann. It is taken in micrograms because it is one of the strongest of all hallucinogenic drugs. This drug was banned in 1966 and was classed as an (illegal) drug because of the negative consequences of taking it, such as suicide and so on. What is mentioned in the question about these drugs having no harmful effects is to be rejected. In fact they cause serious harm, both psychological and physical. That is because psilocybin, mescaline and LSD are all hallucinogenic, intoxicating substances that have a great impact on thinking, mood and behaviour. They lead to a lot of illusions, mental confusion, and aural and visual hallucinations, as well as physical lethargy, schizophrenia, and changes in perception. The one who consumes this substance may have fits of laughter without any reason. The symptoms experienced by the one who consumes these drugs may also include loss of a proper sense of time and place, and altered perception thereof. He may imagine a minute as lasting for a lifetime, or he may see stationary objects as if they are coming closer to him or moving further away from him. This is in addition to some physical symptoms, such as nausea, excessive burping, sweating, paleness of the face, dilation of the pupils, rapid heartbeat, and so on. Based on that, these substances are haraam because of this far-reaching physical harm. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “There should be no harm nor reciprocating of harm.” Narrated by Ahmad in his Musnad (2865), Ibn Maajah (2341); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah If we assume, for the sake of argument, that the negative impact on health of these drugs was not known, it would still be sufficient – in order to disallow them – to know that they are classed under the heading of substances that cause intoxication or make one languid, so they are haram for that reason. The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Every intoxicant is khamr and every intoxicant is haraam. Whoever drinks khamr in this world and dies when he is addicted to it and has not repented, will not drink it in the Hereafter.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5575) and Muslim (2003). In fact, even if we assume that the one who consumes it does not reach the level of becoming intoxicated, even if he were to consume a large amount of it, at least it causes the one who consumes it to feel lethargic or languid, and anything that has such an effect cannot be permissible, because of the report narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), according to which the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forbade everything that intoxicates or makes one languid. Narrated by Abu Dawood in his Sunan (3686); Ahmad in al- Musnad (26634); al-Bayhaqi in as-Sunan al-Kubra (17399) . Al-Haafiz al-‘Iraaqi said: Its isnaad is saheeh. End quote from Fayd al-Qadeer (6/338) Al-Khattaabi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: That which makes one languid is any drink that causes languidness and lethargy in the limbs, which is the precursor of intoxication. It is forbidden to consume it lest it be a means that leads to intoxication. End quote from Ma‘aalim as-Sunan (4/267). See also ‘Awn al-Ma‘bood and Haashiyat Ibn al-Qayyim (10/91) for the commentary on this hadeeth. The questioner’s view that these drugs “have some positive outcomes” does not change the shar‘i ruling in the slightest. Even if we were to assume that this is true, khamr – which is the mother of all evils – also has some benefits. Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “They ask you (O Muhammad) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: ‘In them is a great sin, and (some) benefits for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit’” [al-Baqarah 2:219] . So Allah, may He be glorified, confirms that there are some benefits in it, yet despite that the prohibition on it is emphatic, because of the negative and harmful consequences that outweigh any benefits. Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Allah, may He be glorified, says “ Say: ‘In them is a great sin, and (some) benefits for men”. As for the sin, it affects religious commitment. As for the benefits, they are worldly, because there are some physical benefits, as it aids digestion, leads to expulsion of waste, makes one more alert, and is very pleasurable, as Hassaan ibn Thaabit said before he became Muslim: “We drink it and it makes us kings and lions who do not fear meeting the enemy.” But these benefits cannot equal its harmful and negative effects, because they impact both mind and religious commitment. Hence Allah said “ but the sin of them is greater than their benefit ”. End quote from Tafseer Ibn Katheer (1/579). See also Tafseer al-Qurtubi (3/57) The scholars of the Standing Committee stated that qat is haram, even though there may be some benefits in consuming it; that is only because its negative effects outweigh any benefits. They said: Even if we assume that there are some benefits in this qat, the definite harmful and negative consequences outweigh, and are many times greater than, any benefit there may be in it. End quote from Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa’imah 1 (22/162) To sum up: What is mentioned in the question about these substances not being harmful is not correct; rather they are indeed harmful, which you may find out by consulting specialists or specialist medical websites. Moreover, they indeed lead to negative consequences, the most serious of which is intoxication or languidness, which dictates that they should be prohibited. And Allah knows best. |
Maintaining Wife and Raising Children The treatment of the wife and children is a determining factor on the Day of Judgment that can tip the scale. Thus, they have rights that must be properly maintained, cared for and given priority. If the home is not providing a positive spiritual environment for the wife and children, then this will harm the entire family. Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar : The Prophet said, “Everyone of you is a guardian and everyone of you is responsible (for his wards). A ruler is a guardian and is responsible(for his subjects); a man is a guardian of his family and responsible (for them); a wife is a guardian of her husband’s house and she is responsible (for it), a slave is a guardian of his master’s property and is responsible (for that). Beware! All of you are guardians and are responsible (for your wards). Abu Sa’id narrated, ‘Zainab, the wife of Ibn Mas’ud came along and said to the Prophet “O Messenger of Allah ! You have commanded us today to give Sadaqah (charity ). I have some jewelry of mine and I wanted to give it as Sadaqah, but Ibn Mas’ud claims that he and his children are the most entitled to my Sadaqah. (deserve it more than anyone else.)’ The Messenger of Allah said: “Ibn Mas’ud is right. Your husband and your children are more deserving.’’ Related by Al-Bukhari. Removing Extravagant Indulgences of the World Things like gold and silver utensils, and silk clothing are indulgences which are not befitting of us to have for this world but these things are for the hereafter. Even the wrong type of music, television and/or video games can very much pollute and harm the environment of a home. Wasting time, focusing on excessive materialism and competing in worldly matters that are prohibited takes our focus away from competing in good deeds for the hereafter. It was narrated that Hudhaifah said: “The Messenger of Allah forbade drinking from vessels of gold and silver. He said: “They are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.’” – Sunan Ibn Majah “Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.” – (At-Takathur 102: ![]() Clean Cleanliness is a clear part of Islam without which our prayers are not accepted, the punishment of the grave becomes a serious risk and our physical and spiritual health will be degraded. Abu Malik at-Ash’ari reported: The Messenger of Allah said: Cleanliness is half of faith and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to Allah) fills the scale, and Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah) and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to Allah) fill up what is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light, and charity is proof (of one’s faith) and endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur’an is a proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves. – Muslim 223 Functionality Especially in Terms of Safety and Privacy The Quran itself makes mention of the safety of a home and thus, it is a priority especially in terms of the construction. Privacy is also emphasized as it is a great part of the etiquette of the home, when it comes to women and children, and the various functions of the entryway, living room, the kitchen, the bedroom and the bathroom. The functionality should be maximized with safety and privacy being the foremost guiding principles followed by utilizing the home in a way to avoid waste. “Then is one who laid the foundation of his building on righteousness [with fear] from Allah and [seeking] His approval better or one who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse, so it collapsed with him into the fire of Hell? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.” – (At-Tawbah 9:109). Narrated Jabir : “The Messenger of Allah prohibited that a man sleep on a terrace without something to obstruct him (so that he will not roll off and fall).” – Tirmidhi Striving for Perfection The home is a place to be perfected so that its maintenance can be an act of worship and more good deeds will hopefully come from it by not being distracted or bogged down with unimportant things. It needs to make us productive so we can make it our basis for being firm in the path of Allah . Abu Sa’id (Al Khudri) reported The Prophet was asked “Which believers are most perfect in respect of faith? He replied “A man who strives in the path of Allah with his life and property and a man who worships Allah in a mountain valley where he protects the people from his evil.””- Abu Dawud. The Islamic home requires a moderate balance and a spiritual feel to ward off Shaitan-the rejected, and to promote a positive, productive, stable, spiritual, intellectual and focused atmosphere. Modern electronic devices such as televisions, gaming systems, computers, radios and the like must currently be very constrained to the few good uses when most of what can come through them would be otherwise totally materialistic and send un-Islamic messages. The home is not a place for laziness, indulgence, sinning in secret, wasting time or foul acts. The home must be a place of worship, a classroom, a place of taking care of the necessities of life, a place of close family relationships, a place for rest, a place for work, a place for drawing near to Allah even when no one else can see, a place of thinking, a place of upbringing steadfast and upright Muslim children. The home is the place we always return to in this world while the hereafter is the place we will certainly return to, after our death. Thus, it is a temporary resting place for us given as sustenance from Allah which we should use to prepare for the final resting place to come. In the future, the manners and etiquette along with the specific details of each part of the home will be analyzed as well as some tools that would make excellent reminders (especially for those who don’t have access to sufficient authentic knowledge) to maximize their nearness to Allah through dua’a and actions in accordance with the Sunnah. May Allah grant homes filled with blessings and mercy to all those who seek His favor. Ameen |
Posted By Abdul-Baseer on Oct 21, 2014 in Family and Community, Inspiration and Spirituality, Islam, Life | 0 comments We live in a world where our sphere of concern is greater than it has ever been, encompassing the entire globe fueled due to the advent of international news and the Internet. Meanwhile our sphere of influence has been ever shrinking due to the larger number of people cohabiting the world simultaneously and a loss of sense of community in many parts of the world with even the family unit breaking under a variety of stresses and pressures. Yet, despite our inability to influence the world, the state, the community or even our families, we generally still have a living environment which we have complete control over. The environment we live in might be extremely polluted with un-Islamic people, culture, norms, forbidden activities and indulgences widespread. But the environment we spend those hours eating, sleeping and spending our idle time is of utmost importance simply because we do have the ability to control it. Our homes are a critical part of our life and the idiom “home is where the heart is” shows the great role it plays in our life, yet, more importantly, we should be aiming to draw near Allah . We should transform our homes so that remembering Allah is where our heart is, ultimately experiencing true peace and contentment. What is an Islamic home ? Can the modern home be Islamic? The answers to these questions must be derived from pearls of wisdom of the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad . Nearly all Islamic principles apply to the home given it is a place we spend so much of our time in; and should be our place of safety, security, grounding, peace of mind and recovery. Attending to Neighborly Needs Neighbors not only deserve kindness but they have many rights to it. One should bear in mind remembering their neighbors when considering their home. A successful and positive community comes about when neighbors attend to each others rights which could ultimately change the environment of the whole area. There are many rights afforded to neighbors which make Islamic building codes, and etiquette to neighbors when cooking or after having purchased fruit. Narrated Samurah : The Messenger of Allah said: “The neighbor of a home has more right to the home.” – Tirmidhi. The rights are actually so great that they are stressed in the Sunnah. Mujahid narrated: “Abdullah bin Amr had a sheep slaughtered for his family, so when he came he said: ‘Have you given some to our neighbor, the Jew? Have you given some to our neighbor, the Jew? I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: ‘Jibril continued to advise me about (treating) the neighbors so (kindly and politely), that I thought he would order me (from Allah) to make them heirs.” -Tirmidhi. The book Leadership Lessons from the Life of Rasoolullah: Proven Techniques of How to Succeed in Today’s World by Shaykh Mirza Yawar Baig goes on to list these rights in detail which the Messenger of Allah narrated to the Sahaba, which we should bear in mind to maintain such honorable and noble tradition even as hard as it can be, in our modern style communities: 1. Assist him when he asks for assistance. 2. Give him a loan if he needs it. 3. Help him if he is needy. 4. Visit him when he is ill. 5. Accompany his funeral when he dies. 6. Congratulate him on happy occasions. 7. Console him in adversity. 8. Do not build your house higher than his without his permission lest his ventilation is obstructed. 9. If you buy fruits, send some for him as a present. If you cannot do so, take the fruit into your house concealed so that he cannot see it. Don’t allow your children to take it out and eat openly in case his children see it and become grieved. 10. Don’t let the smoke from your house get into his house causing him annoyance. Acts of Worship The home should be a spiritual abode. Prayers , supplications, ghusl and wudu, acquiring Islamic knowledge, reciting the Quran are just some of the spiritual activities that should be undertaken on a routine basis. Not doing so will turn the home into a negative atmosphere. If you are returning home after praying in the mosque, then it is recommended to save the optional prayers for the home to bring light, blessings and angels into it. Zaid bin Thabit narrated that: The Prophet said: “The most virtuous prayer of yours is in your homes, except for the obligatory.” – Tirmidhi. Avoiding Idolatry, Dogs, Etc. Portraits, statues and the like should not be displayed whether it be paintings, sculptures, photographs or whatever the material form. Dogs are also not allowed in an Islamic home with the exception of a guard dog when security is an issue. Some people can make these types of mistakes unknowingly out of ignorance, especially in cultures where it is common place. Cleaning the home from these types of things will bring immediate spiritual benefit. Narrated Abu Talha : The Prophet said, “Angels do not enter a house that has either a dog or a picture in it.” – Al-Bukhari. Simplicity A very important aspect of the home is to practice simplicity. The Prophet would not enter a home which was excessive in the adornments and embellishments of this world. Wealth should be spent where it’s needed; not in a manner where you want a beautiful home that is spiritually empty and shallow in all other ways. Abu Umamah bin Tha’labah reported: The Companions of Messenger of Allah mentioned the life of the world before him. He said, “Do you not hear? Do you not hear? Simplicity (in life) is part of Faith, simplicity is part of Faith.” – Abu Dawud. The furniture and food also need not be extravagantly elegant or excessive. The principle applies to the home and all that is inside the home. Remembering Allah and the Hereafter The ultimate aim of this life is to worship and please Allah maintaining the hereafter as the goal and not any small benefits of the worldly life. The Quran is very firm on this and thus our home should reflect it given the amount of time spent in it. We need reminders so that we do not forget Allah and what He has blessed us with and the home is an essential place for them. Specific strategies from keeping the Quran near at hand or prayer clothing nearby or a siwak (tooth stick) next to the place one does wudu, are of the many examples that will be looked at in detail later in this series. “…the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.” – (Al- ‘Ahzab 33:41) To be continued… |
Posted By Nasmira Firdous on Jan 7, 2015 in Featured, Inspiration and Spirituality, Islam, Life | 0 comments Distress, anxiety, joys, fear, worries and happiness : different facets that make up this mesmerizing sojourn called “life ”. It might fascinate you with its unknown twists and turns. There are moments where you relish the joys and happiness with every breath you take. And then, there are moments when the human soul, weak in its creation but as mighty as it thinks of itself, tries to shred realities and instead, buries itself into worldly deceptions. With the pressures of dunya that strangle us both physically and emotionally, our minds tend to lose focus and our hearts cringe with disappointments and pain. Beyond all of this, our souls end up forgetting their very purpose of existence: To worship our Creator . In this article, let us undertake a journey that would help us free our hearts from worries, let us perform tiny little acts of acts that could weigh heavy on our scale of good deeds, helping us have an eeman high, in sha Allah. Cleanse Your Heart The sins we commit, no matter how big or small they might seem, darken our hearts gradually, making it rotten on the inside. In order to place ourselves completely under Allah servitude and refresh our eeman, we need to cleanse our hearts, making it pure from the stenches of sins that have been committed. Here are small little steps , which you could implement to commence the process of cleansing, in sha Allah: 1. Begin with Repentance A heartfelt, sincere repentance begging for forgiveness and mercy never goes unnoticed. Allah is the most Merciful of all, therefore, acknowledge the fact that you have committed sins and ask Him to bless you with His mercy and forgiveness. Do it now! A heartfelt, sincere repentance begging for forgiveness and mercy never goes unnoticed. 2. Salah : The Elixir of Life Nothing in life can be achieved without having a one-on- one conversation with our Lord. You might want to get rid of worldly pressures; maybe you want a righteous spouse; perhaps you want to be blessed with a child or acquire the dream job; or your mind just yearns for contentment and peace. Allah is the Maker, the Sustainer, the One who loves to Forgive and the One who loves to provide for His slaves. All you have to do ask Him ! Whatever be your demand, focus whilst praying, focus when you make dua instead of putting your dua list on auto pilot mode; talk to Him when you’re given five official chances to do so everyday. What better time than salah! 3. Build a Relationship with the Quran While repentance purifies your heart, reading the glorious Quran strengthens your soul, filling it with an eeman high. Make a little more effort when you recite the glorious book. Push yourself to understand the tafseer or the Arabic language in order to grasp the eloquence, beauty and miracle of the Quran. It’s Allah ‘s way of talking to you. Open it everyday to listen to what He has to say! While repentance purifies your heart, reading the glorious Quran strengthens your soul, filling it with an eeman high. Perform Deeds that Pull you to Jannah The acts you perform with intentions to seek your Lord’s pleasure can add a lot of weight to your scale of good deeds on the Day of Judgment, giving you a mighty ticket to enter the eternal paradise, with your Lord’s permission and mercy. So why not start with charity . In a well known hadeeth, we learn that charity extinguishes sins like water extinguishes fire .[1] You don’t have to be a millionaire to do something massive. The next time you go to the masjid, remember to donate an unknown amount of money for charitable causes that would help your local masjid function better. Help the needy with whatever means possible. Buy a single meal for them every week; Donate your clothes to an orphanage; Donate some money to a nearby school; Give money to build a well There are umpteen types of small investments that provide exponential benefits on the Day of Judgement. So get into the “art of giving” now! Perhaps, these tiny acts of yours could give you a ticket to paradise or save you from the ferociousness of Hellfire. Let Go of Your Past Often times, we drown in foams of disasters by making the wrong decisions or speaking the wrong kind of words. One of the most important ways to move forward and renew our eeman is to let go of our past . It’s done and over with. Learn from your mistakes and move on. You benefit nothing by brooding over it. If Umar were to brood over his past, he would have never become one of the outstanding caliphs that he went on to become. If you are still breathing, Allah has given you another chance to prove your worth, so let go of your past, your sins and mistakes, no matter how disastrous they may seem. Sit down, repent now, cry in sujood, raise your hands up to the heavens and beg for forgiveness, then move on. With every breath you take, you are one step closer to meeting your Lord. Make sure it is filled with meaningful, productive, humble acts rather than grieving over what “could have been” or what “should have been”. The Blessed Tahajjud Wake up for ten minutes everyday when everyone else is asleep to offer the blessed tahajjud prayer, the sweetness and beauty of which can only be experienced, not explained. It is a de-stressor, a magical eraser that would remove traces of worries, guilt, fear and anxiety from your mind; and instead, perfume your existence with hope and peace. Pull the blanket off at the last third of the night and have a blessed conversation with your Lord when half of the world sleeps and the other half is busy indulging itself in worldly affairs. It just needs a little extra effort, helping your ordinary day become extraordinary ! Be a Leader After you’ve fixed yourself up with these little acts that will help boost your emaan bi’ithnillah, try to please your Lord by stepping up the initiative and helping His creation. Do not be pleased with being ordinary. Go out of your way and do the extraordinary. Rise up because you have been blessed with the gift called “Islam”. Carry forward the beautiful legacy, so people belonging to other religions can look up to Islam. Next time you are in gathering or meeting, initiate a genuine smile that would become hallmarks of a happy and content Muslim/Muslimah. Take the initiative. Volunteer for useful organizations and put your skills into use in whichever field you excel at. It could be something creative like painting and writing or something technical like graphic or website designing. Maybe you have excellent oratory skills. Your talent is a gift from Allah . Don’t waste it by not using it. Take a pen and paper to list down three (or more) things you are really good at. Once you’ve narrowed in on these, start nurturing your talents and put them into use to benefit the Ummah and invest in your akhira. Maintain the Euphoria Remember, emaan increases and decreases according to situations life throws at us because our hearts and souls are fragile. Always have a bunch of eeman buddies who would help you in times of need. You don’t have to battle in the dungeons of dunya all alone. Your friends have a direct impact on the type of person you are, so choose your surroundings wisely. Race forward to do good deeds. You don’t have to battle in the dungeons of dunya all alone. A hundred years from now, it won’t matter whether you wore an expensive dress or if you bought the latest gadget/ car/mobile phone. What WILL matter is the number of good deeds you managed to pack into your luggage for your final and eternal abode in the Hereafter. Wake up from your deep slumber and spend your time wisely! With each moment of life flying away, you are in a trance. A magic wand will not clear up the emotional and physical debris of disasters and disappointments that have piled up in your life. However, eeman boosters that would remind you of your purpose in life, will! Repent, rise up and initiate changes in your life to please your Lord. Be the Ummah that can bring about changes in the society rather than being an Ummah that constantly whines about every tiny problem. Push yourself a little more than what you normally do, to become a little more special than what you already are. Do not be another of speck of sand on planet earth. Instead, be a star that winks from the sky! |
Posted By Fareed Ahmad on Dec 24, 2014 With the beautiful golden Christmas baubles and the oh-so- cute snowy Christmas trees, it is absolutely understandable to be attracted to all the glitz and shine of Christmas (and as a side note, it does make it worse not to be tempted and dragged into the excitement with all those gorgeous sale deals), but is it okay for Muslims to be a part of the festivities or is it a matter of religious do’s and don’t’s? You decide – here’s a quick flashback: Many people today, even Catholics, do not know that the Holy Roman Catholic Church was already in business several hundred years before Jesus was even born. It was a pagan church established by the Roman government in an effort to control the subjects of Rome by having all of them participate along with other Roman citizens in some kind of common worship practices and beliefs. The year was 325 A.D. according to the Roman calendar. A council was convened by order of Constantine, the Roman emperor. He had been a leader in the cult known as Sol Invictus (Invincible Sun) and now, wanted to unite the Christian sects in the Empire under his existing church: the Universal Church of Rome. Many changes to the religion of Christianity was about to take place at that council, including: 1. Formulation for wording concerning the Trinity based on Anthanias. 2. Changing Verses of Bible. 3. Declaring Arian’s “unitarian” (belief in the Unity of God) as heresy. 4. Changing the date of Jesus’ birthday to December 25th. The Roman Catholic Church took on a new face. The Europeans call the festival of the birth of Jesus Christmas, and it is on December 25 for the majority of Christians. The festival is influenced by pagan rituals, when the Romans used to celebrate the god of light and the god of harvest. When Christianity became the official religion of the Romans, Christmas became the most important festival in Europe. It’s a fake date! It’s not real even according to the Christian history. And here we are, wishing them Merry Christmas at the cost of our faith! Now what about Muslims celebrating something that even the Christians should not be doing in the first place?! The Islamic ruling and the reason behind this : As Muslims, we have to be kind to non-Muslims but we don’t have to start celebrating their festivals which have polytheistic origins. Honestly, bearing witness to la ilaha ilaaAllah is a serious matter! So, we can’t throw around justifications like “We have to be kind to non-Muslims” or “We should welcome all the celebrations, what’s the harm…” Because, wishing Merry Christmas is akin to saying, “Happy celebrating the birth of God’s son and yes, I believe in la ilaha illaAllah (there is none worthy of worship but Allah) and that He has no son, but I still want to congratulate you for believing otherwise…” Remember, being kind to someone is alright but adopting their beliefs is not okay. A major and essential part of our religion is to maintain our distinct identity when it comes to beliefs and to disassociate ourselves from every act of disbelief and kufr. Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: As for the Muslim selling things that they use for their festivals, such as food, clothing, herbs and the like, or giving those things to them, that is a kind of helping them to celebrate their haraam festival. Iqtida’ al-Siraat al-Mustaqeem, p. 229 Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Similarly, it is forbidden for the Muslims to imitate the kuffaar by holding parties on these occasions, or exchanging gifts, or distributing sweets or other foods, or taking time off work and so on, because the Prophet said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 3512; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 2691. The Santa Story Moreover, when you pick up and look at the whole Santa concept, you find way too many problems with it. Apart from having idol and pagan origins, parents all across the globe lie to their children about Santa! Because, in reality, no Santa comes to distribute presents! The date is fake and the concepts conveyed to our little ones are fake. It is basically a day of universal lying, whose facts are hidden by glittery decorations, but sadly, majority of mankind is lost in its glamor. “Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire – of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.” [Aal Imran 3:14] Bottom line: “And who is better in speech than he who [says: “My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness),” and then stands firm (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah’s (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: “I am one of the Muslims.” [Fussilat 41:33] Be proud of your religion! The Non-Muslims do not celebrate your Eid, why should you celebrate theirs?! Belief in Surah Ikhlaas and celebrating Christmas can’t reside in one heart. It looks really dumb when you want to pose next to a Christmas Tree in some mall for a selfie to look “cool”, because, in reality, you cancel out all coolness because you are ignoring the fact that by celebrating Christmas (“birth of God’s son”) and wishing others a Merry Christmas, you are bearing witness to shirk! Don’t celebrate what Allah hates. It’s that simple. Merry Christmas? I don’t think so! Be Sociable, Share! |
Posted By Ibtihal Al-Khalifin on Nov 10, 2014 in Blog, Inspiration and Spirituality, Islam, Islamic Online University | 0 comments “Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah . Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.” (Ar-Ra’d, 13:28) With the never-ending distractions of this life and the infinite tasks filling our plates, we tend to forget the main purpose of our existence which is to worship Allah Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala . Unfortunately, we make this life *t he* priority rather than spending our precious time earning Allah’s mercy and forgiveness. The mercy of Allah is superior to anything known to the limited human mind. He has blessed us with innumerable opportunities to erase our sins in less than sixty seconds, yet we make use of such invaluable golden opportunities very rarely. Bountiful rewards await us but we have to take the first step of remembering Allah Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala at all times. Here are some daily actions that barely take up our time but grant us magnificent rewards. I will split them into two categories: one which concerns supplications , and the other consisting of voluntary acts. Supplications: 1. Narrated Abu Huraira radi-allahu-anhu : Allah’s Messenger SAW said, “Whoever says, ‘Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,’ one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.” 1 2. Narrated Abu Huraira radi-allahu-anhu : The Prophet SAW said, “There are two expressions which are very easy for the tongue to say, but they are very heavy in the balance and are very dear to The Beneficent (Allah), and they are, ‘Subhan Allah Al- `Azim and ‘Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi.'” 2 3. Abu Musa radi-allahu-anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah SAW said to me, “Shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Jannah?” I said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah!” Thereupon, he SAW said, “(Recite) ‘La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah’ (There is no change of a condition nor power except by Allah).” 3 4. Abu Huraira radi-allahu-anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah SAW said: “He who blesses me once, Allah would bless him ten times.” 4 5. Abu Hurairah radi-allahu-anhu reported: I heard Messenger of Allah SAW saying: “By Allah, I seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times a day.” 5 If Allah’s messenger SAW sought forgiveness from Allah Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala , knowing that he is guaranteed paradise, how could we be so negligent? Voluntary acts and Nawafil (Supererogatory prayers): 1. Narrated Umm Habibah Radi : The Prophet SAW said: “If anyone prays in a day and a night twelve rak’ahs voluntarily (supererogatory prayer), a house will be built for him in Paradise on account of these (rak’ahs).” 6 2. ‘Aishah Radi reported: The Prophet SAW said, “The two Rak’ah before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains.” 7 3. Narrated Abu Huraira radi-allahu-anhu : Allah’s Messenger SAW said, “Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise.” 8 4. Narrated Ali ibn AbuTalib radi-allahu-anhu : The Prophet SAW said: “Allah is single (witr) and loves what is single, so observe the witr, you who follow the Qur’an.” 9 5. Ibn Mas’ud radi-allahu-anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah SAW said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.” 10 6. Abu Sa’id Al-Khudr (radi-allahu-anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah SAW said, “Every slave of Allah who observes Saum (fasting) for a day in the Cause of Allah, Allah will keep his face from Hell-fire at a distance of seventy years.” 11 The main purpose of this article is to highlight quick and simple actions which enable us to undo the wrong we have committed. We should memorize these supplications as well as their rewards. Strive to recite them throughout the day so that angels can record our remembering of Allah Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala in an attempt to soften our hearts, rather than recording us wasting our precious time on scrolling through our smart phones. Beware! Let us not lose interest after a while or treat these supplications as a repetitive act, making them lose out in terms of sincerity and passion. Let us always be conscious of the fact that Allah Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala loves passionate and heart-felt duas (supplications) where our hearts would be speaking and not just our tongues. Always remember: It is when we sincerely believe that Allah Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala will answer our duas that He grants us what we desire! May Allah Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala make us of those whose duas are always answered and of those whom He Allah Subhanahu-wa-Taala is pleased with. Ameen. |
Praise be to Allah. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) explained the seven sins that doom a person to Hell in a saheeh hadeeth that was narrated by the two Shaykhs, al- Bukhaari and Muslim, in as-Saheehayn , in which it was narrated that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Avoid the seven sins that doom a person to Hell.” We said: What are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said: “Associating others with Allah (shirk); witchcraft; killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden us to kill, except in cases dictated by Islamic law; consuming orphans’ wealth; consuming riba; fleeing from the battlefield; and slandering chaste, innocent women.” 1. The greatest of these sins is shirk (associating others with Allah), which leads to doom with no hope of redemption, and if a person dies in this state he will abide in Hell for all eternity. Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers” [al-Maa’idah 5:72] “And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)), as it was to those (Allah’s Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers” [az-Zumar 39:65] . “It is not for the Mushrikoon (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), to maintain the Mosques of Allah (i.e. to pray and worship Allah therein, to look after their cleanliness and their building, etc.), while they witness against their ownselves of disbelief. The works of such are in vain and in Fire shall they abide” [at-Tawbah 9:17] . 2. Witchcraft involves shirk because it is worshipping the jinn and is seeking the help of the jinn to misguide people. The practitioner of witchcraft is the one who deals with that which causes harm to people by means of the jinn and worshipping them instead of Allah. Sometimes he does things that harm them of words, deeds and blowing on knots; sometimes he does that by causing illusions to such an extent that a thing may be seen as something other than what it really is, as Allah, may He be glorified, said concerning the sorcerers of Pharaoh (interpretation of the meaning): “…their ropes and their sticks, by their magic, appeared to him as though they moved fast” [Ta-Ha 20:66] “So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic” [al-A‘raaf 7:116] . Sometimes the practitioner of witchcraft does things to harm people by means of the jinn and worshipping them instead of Allah, by means of words, deeds and blowing on knots, as Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “And from the evil of the witches when they blow in the knots” [al-Falaq 113:4]. And sometimes they do that by creating illusions, so that they cause things to be seen as something other than they really are. So a rope or a stick may be seen as a snake, or a rock may be seen as an egg, or a person may be seen as something other than he really is, and so on. Such a person is one of the disbelievers and if it is proven before the judge, it is obligatory for the ruler of the Muslims to execute the practitioner of witchcraft. It was proven from Ameer al-Mu’mineen ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he wrote to his governors in greater Syria and elsewhere, instructing them to execute every practitioner of witchcraft, male or female, because of the great extent of their evil and the danger they posed. 3. Killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden us to kill. This is a serious crime of which Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the Wrath and the Curse of Allah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him” [an-Nisa’ 4:93] . Killing a soul, or murder, is one of the most serious of crimes, but it is a major sin of a lesser degree than shirk (associating others with Allah). It is a major sin like fornication/adultery, theft and so on. The one who does that is not a disbeliever unless he regards it as permissible to do that. Hence Allah, may He be glorified, says concerning him: “And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the Wrath and the Curse of Allah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him” [an-Nisa’ 4:93] . He will abide in that punishment forever if he regards it as permissible; if he does not regard it as permissible, he will abide therein for a long time, but it will come to an end. The stay of the sinners (among the Muslims) in Hell will be lengthy, but it will have an end. As for the disbelievers, their stay will have no end. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Avoid the seven sins that doom a person to Hell.” We said: What are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said: “Associating others with Allah (shirk); witchcraft; killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden us to kill, except in cases dictated by Islamic law…” Cases dictated by Islamic law include execution of the previously married adulterer, by stoning; execution of a person who kills another, when both are of equal standing; execution in cases where there is a legitimate reason for executing the criminal, such as banditry, in which the criminal tries to harm travellers by seizing their wealth on the road, or beating them or killing them – he is to be executed because of his great evil. 4. Consuming riba – this refers to dealing with riba which Allah has prohibited. Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, says concerning it (interpretation of the meaning): “Allah has permitted trading and forbidden Riba” [al-Baqarah 2:275] “O you who believe! Fear Allah and give up what remains (due to you) from Ribaa (from now onward) if you are (really) believers. And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger” [al-Baqarah 2:278] . Consuming riba is a major sin which it is essential to avoid. Riba is of various kinds, riba nasee’ah and riba fadl: Riba fadl is, for example, selling one dirham for two dirhams, or one saa‘ of wheat for two saa‘s of wheat, or one saa‘ of rice for two saa‘s of rice. This is riba fadl, which means selling something for more of the same type or commodity. This is not permissible. Riba an-nasee’ah is, for example, selling a saa‘ of wheat for two saa‘s of barley to be paid later, after one or two days, i.e., the price is not to be taken until after the sitting in which the deal is done. This is riba nasee’ah. It may be selling one hundred dollars for one hundred pounds, or for ten pounds, to be paid at another time, and it is not taken in that sitting. This is called riba an-nasee’ah, and it is one of the gravest of major sins. 5. Consuming orphans’ wealth. The orphan is the one whose father has died when he is small and has not yet reached puberty. What is required in the case of orphans is to treat them kindly, protect their wealth, make it grow and handle it with proper care. The one who spoils the orphan’s wealth and consumes it unlawfully is subject to a stern warning, because the orphan is weak and he has transgressed against him and consumed his wealth. This stern warning is addressed to him, but he is not a disbeliever; rather he is a sinner, so long as he does not regard that as permissible. 6. Fleeing from the battlefield. When the Muslims meet the disbelievers in battle, the one who flees and deserts his brothers on the day of battle, when the disbelievers march against the Muslims or the Muslims march against the disbelievers – the one who flees and deserts his brothers is subject to this stern warning (interpretation of the meaning): “unless it be a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own)” [al-Anfaal 8:16] that is, unless he is recruiting to prepare himself, bring his weapon and put on his armour in preparation for fighting, which does not do any harm, or he is moving from one detachment to another, or from one rank to another, or from one group to another, as part of a plan against the enemy. 7. Slandering chaste, innocent believing women. The one who slanders chaste women, which means accusing them of zina (fornication or adultery) – by saying: So and so committed zina, or So and so called someone to commit zina, but he is lying – this is one of the seven sins that doom one to Hell and for which one deserves to be given eighty lashes, as Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes” [an-Noor 24:4] . Slandering chaste women is a major sin, as is slandering chaste men, but because such accusations are usually made against women, the text speaks of women. Nevertheless, if someone slanders a chaste man, and says that he committed zina, he has to produce four witnesses or else be given eighty lashes. These are the seven sins that doom a person to Hell, because they are so evil. We ask Allah to keep us safe and sound. End quote. Posted By Abu Aaishah on Nov 12, 2014 in Education, Inspiration and Spirituality, Islam | 0 comments I admit it. I procrastinated for a very long of time to write this article and I know, a few people might just open this page in another browser/tab and leave it for days/weeks to read. “Uff, there is so less time and I have so much to do, there’s no time to read this topic. Let me keep it for later. I am not a bad person. Let’s read it when I am in “realization” mode”. Why do we delay connecting with someone? We judge the limit of delaying things by the consequences we might end up in. On earth, life and money are the two most important things in our lives. Spiritual procrastination which involves loss of afterlife, involves delay in performing our salah, giving zakah, performing hajj, reading Qur’an, or even visiting a sick person. They don’t immediately make you a (worldly) looser, but the benefits these deeds can fetch you in the afterlife is tremendous. Lack of taqwa (God consciousness or God fearing) is probably one of the main reasons to delay our spiritual obligations. It’s not because you have no time, its not because you have other ‘important work” to attend to, its fundamentally because of lack of taqwa. Taqwa comes from knowing Allah and by continuously being connected to Him. Just thinking “Its a heartless world, and a heartless job, I never knew when my worship became a ritual, the prayers are there, but swift; the charity goes, but without love; and seeing the Quran in the masjid everyday, I walk away. What do I read in it? I know nothing of what I read” is of no use. We have to realize something is missing in all these acts? That something is “ Connection ”. Allah has also given us the free will to strive in establishing a connection with Him. With all our shortcomings, let us focus on overcoming the guilt and fear of our lives in the light of Quran and Sunnah . Here are some practical tips to help you connect to our Creator : 1. Confession saves from hiding out of guilt. For any relationship to sustain, the most important thing is transparency. Transparency with our Creator (The All Knower) is inevitable. One way to set things right at the earliest is to accept our bad deeds, confess our weaknesses and utter frustration of our inabilities and ask for pardon, help and good life. Some verses make it easier to cross the guilt-barrier and connect to Allah . “But whoever repents after his wrongdoing and reforms, indeed, Allah will turn to him in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (al-Ma’idah,5:39) “Have you not considered that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth? There is in no private conversation three but that He is the fourth of them, nor are there five but that He is the sixth of them – and no less than that and no more except that He is with them [in knowledge] wherever they are. Then He will inform them of what they did, on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allah is, of all things, Knowing.” (Mujadilah 58:7) How Do I Confess? There is no better approach to confess, other than in our salah and supplications. i) Why salah? Because Allah says: “And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah ]” (al-Bakharah, 2:45) “Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.” (al-’Ankabut, 29:45) When Abu Bakr asked Prophet to teach him a supplication to invoke Allah in his salah, Prophet said: “Say: ‘O Allah, I have wronged myself much, and none forgives sins except You. So forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me, indeed, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful” (Saheeh Al- Bukharee) Brothers and sisters, prayer is one of the foundations of our religion, and only through it, we can purify ourselves. Even the most sinful and shameless is expected to pray. And opening up in our dua is crucial because shaytaan wants to keep us away from Allah . Wandering around with guilt will not make us hide from Allah . We might not be very open with our closest friend or sibling, but we have to be open with Allah , the All-Hearer, because our beloved Prophet encouraged us to depend upon Him for even the smallest of things: “Let one of you ask his Lord for his every need, until he asks Him for salt, and asks Him for the strap of his sandal when it breaks.” (Hasan, Jami` at-Tirmidhee) ii) Supplications: Indeed, there are many beautiful supplications to memorize and there are times when supplications are never rejected. Knowing them has a great advantage. Click here to learn more. 2. Know Allah to give Him His Right. We humans tend to make friendship for two reasons: common interests and benefits. With Allah , it’s unique and different. Our relation with Him is of a Master and slave; and only He can make any of us Waliullah (Friend of Allah). Knowing Him is our duty. It’s a part of our conscience to have the knowledge of our Creator. This is one of the initial steps a Muslim should take when he is curious about his purpose of existence. How can we know our Creator without being able to see Him? It is only by His word, Quran. In many verses of Quran, Allah revealed many of His attributes, in terms of: where He is, how He sees, how He Plans, how He creates, whom He Loves, who He does not love, who pleases Him, who angers Him, what He wants from us and like wise. A complete surah (al ikhlas) is dedicated to His attributes. One advantage of knowing the meaning of Allah’s names in depth is to strengthen our aqeedah. The more we know about Allah , the better we understand His Might and Power, and easier it will be for us to submit and become a better slave, in sha Allah. He also encourages us to do good by giving us glimpses of paradise. This eventually creates a balance of hope and fear which we can utilize whenever necessary. In fact, the realization of being disconnected from Allah is also a blessing from Him. He puts that depressing feeling of being disconnected in your heart, so you could get back to Him and not go astray. We shouldn’t forget that it is Allah who is allowing us to know Him; so we should keep asking Allah to bless us with knowledge of all kind and supplicate as the messenger of Allah taught us to say: “O Allah! Grant me benefit in what you have taught me, and teach me useful knowledge and provide me with knowledge that will benefit me.” (Hasan, an-Nasa’ee, al-Hakim) 3. Realize the Good Qualities Allah has given you in order to get closer to Him . Thank Allah for the good in you. We might have a few good qualities which we can never compromise upon, whether we are God conscious or not. Few people don’t perform their five daily salah, but will never lie; few cannot be unjust; these are nothing but blessings from Allah . Thus, thanking Allah for the good qualities is crucial. Attributing the goodness inside us to Allah and using it to connect to Him is wise. Allah commands us to acquire few good qualities in order to be close to Him. Allah says in the Glorious Qur’an: “…Be just; that is nearer to righteousness…” (al- Ma’idah, 5: ![]() Once Allah’s Messenger said to Ashaj Abdul-Qais : “You possess two qualities that Allah loves. These are clemency and tolerance.” (Saheeh Muslim) A man asked the Messenger of Allah : “What quality of Islam is best?” He said: “To feed (the poor) and to say the Salam to whomever one knows and whomever one does not know.” (Saheeh, Sunan an-Nasa’ee) To be continued… |
made a search in that address and this is one of the testimony I found. my brother run for your life and don't be too desperate to get a job. Anonymous January 17, 2014 at 2:17 AM There are just so many of them scammers everywhere now... I got a message about a week ago about how inviting me to a written/oral interview...the name of the company read Azenergy...I went for the interview this last Monday out of curiosity,I spoke to some of the people that came for the interview if any of them applied and they all said no,that they just got the message We signed it and we were told the test would take 15 minutes and while they mark our scripts,a staff would come to tell us what the company does. Before I forget, the venue was 84 pako/itire rd Morgan bus stop Mushin Lagos (trinity house)there was no sign post indicating there's a company there,it was even while I was there I heard the name is AlphaPlus. After the test a young lady came and started what looked like a motivational speech. After about 20minutes some people got offended and asked why they were invited and where they got their numbers from...they left angrily;about 15 of them. The lady continued after ther departure and still spent up to an hour before a guy she referred to as CEO Kelvin Obita enter to give his own speech Our scripts that we were told would determine who would be employed that same day never came...this guy boasted about how in 2 years this business has made him travel to 5 countries, how he has bought properties all over Lagos and how he now earns up to a million per month. To cut the long story he asked those who were interested to be recruited to signify by raising hands(it was no longer by the test we took) we that suffered through the speech did and he said we'd pay 10k for license that day or 5k and we'd be opportuned to be trained by him...I showed interest sha and he agreed we could bring the money on Wednesday(15th)we were not allowed to ask questions in the open class...the questions were to be asked in his office after we had all been given a form to fill...my question was simple...what their website is and they said 'they are still developing' I'm sorry I didn't write about what they are into...I didn't get it myself and both the office and the room we used for test had only plastic chairs,no single furniture not to talk of computers or fans and I heard they've been inviting people for test for about a month now...Stella don't mind my medium, please investigate. I sincerely hope my epistle saves someone from wasting 10k Here's the number they dropped...07031000145 |

Sincerely brother, I have lived in Lagos all my life except when I was in school and I know how it could be for someone that has no relation or friends, its like going to the U.S without having a place to stay when you arrive there. things does not sound or look rossy the way you perceive it, except you have a relative to accommodate you and feed you while you stay there. Accommodation, feeding and transportation should be considered, and since corps members are no longer posted to private firms, and no one would employ a Corps member except you already have one worked out for you or you just want to go and enjoy your time while you serve as a ghost corper . I hope you can handle the hustling and bustling, the anguish that comes with it because believe it or not all your allowance both federal, state and ppa will only serve as pocket money to you except you are medical doctor, lawyer, nurse etc. I am a serving corps member presently in Edo state and believe me I'm enjoying my time serving in this Village, where I can save some cash for my raining day after service. |
