The Rivers state All Progressive Congress (APC) Party Secretary, Chief Emeka Beke was Involved in a Car Accident on his way to the party Secretariat.

According to reports, Chief Emeka Beke's vehicle was heading to APC Party Secretariat just by Port Harcourt Club, a tree pulled off and fell on his car. Chief Emeka Beke is Hail and Healthy. Though one of his aid was rushed to BMH where he is taking treatment.

An unknown gunmen on Friday burnt down the office of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISEC) in Bori, the headquarters of Khana local government area.  

The gunmen left on their trail expended bullets and destruction of many vital and sensitive documents slated for the conduct of the local government election. Bori, which is also the traditional headquarters of the Ogoni ethnic nationality has a record of electoral violence. In 2015, the liasion office of Senator Magnus Abe and the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, were set ablaze by arsonists.  

The Director of Public Affairs and Civil Education, Mrs. Menney-Amgbare Sarah Hope, confirmed that some sensitive documents meant for the conduct of the election were burnt. She disclosed further that some expended bullets were recovered at the scene of the incident. No live was lost.

Ahead of the election, there have been accusations and counter accusations by aspirants into various councillorship positions under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that some persons have been imposed on the party as favoured candidates for election against rules of the party.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State is boycotting the election because of a case it instituted against the government over the sacking of council chairmen and councillors elected under the APC government.

They argued that the planned election is subjudice to the court case.

The Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, April 26, 2018 arraigned one Ilesanmi Babatunde Yemi, a final year accounting student of Ekiti State University, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on a five-count charge bordering on Advanced Fee Fraud and Money Laundering.
The travail of Babatunde, 31, followed a petition alleging that he engages in Internet love and Romance scams.

It was alleged that he poses on the internet as an American Army Officer by the name Dennis Martinez serving in Libya. The defendant allegedly engages unsuspecting ladies on the internet in a dating and romance scam through which he fleeces them of their money. The last victims were two ladies from Australia which he alleged obtained to the tune of about $500 (Five Hundred Dollars) in tranches.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

In view of his plea, EFCC Counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi, applied for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody.

However, the defense counsel, Olatunde Adeoye, informed the court of an application for bail dated and filed today, 26 April, 2018. He thereafter prayed the court to allow the defendant remain in the EFCC'S custody pending the hearing of his bail application.
Justice Abdulmalik however, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Federal Prison, Agodi, pending the hearing of his application.

The case was adjourned to May 8, 2018 for hearing of the bail application.

A special court in Jodhpur, india has sentenced "Asaram" a religious leader and the founder of "Shree Yog Vedanta Sewa Samiti" to life imprisonment for the rape of a 16-year-old girl. The case dates back to 2013 when a 16-year-old girl had accused Asaram of rape on the intervening night of August 15 and 16 at his ashram in Jodhpur.

The verdict was announced by Judge Madhu Sudan Sharma in Jodhpur. Asaram was charged for raping a 16-year-old girl in August 2013.

Asaram was arrested in 2013 and has been in jail ever since.

According to reports, Asaram broke down after hearing the quantum of punishment.

Asaram was accused of trafficking, rape. He has been booked under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) which could entail stringent punishment.

The father of the teenager who was raped by Asaram had earlier demanded stringent punishment for the self-proclaimed godman.

"The court has given us justice in this case. He should be given a stringent punishment," the victim's father said.

The victim's father also added that the family has suffered a lot in the past five years. "We have suffered a lot and now we hope to get complete justice in this case," he said.

Meanwhile, Asaram's spokesperson Neelam Dubey said that they "respect the court's order".

Asaram is also an accused in a double rape case in Surat. Asaram's son Narayan Sai, also a self-styled 'saint', is accused in the case as well.

Asaram and Narayan are alleged to have raped and illegally confined two sisters. The elder sister accused Asaram of repeatedly sexual assaulting her between 2001 and 2006. The trial in those rape cases is on in Gujarat.

A worker with the Alimosho council area of Lagos State, simply identified as Samuel Koro-toe was allegedly stabbed to death yesterday by an officer of NDLEA.

The incident occurred during the 40th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the secretariat of Agege Local Council of the state.

According to a source, who captured the moment on camera, trouble erupted after some NDLEA officers, who have office in the council fired several shots into the air. They were said to be heavily drunk.

Their action was said to have been met with indignation from Council’s staff, particularly NULGE Excos, who protested against the vile act. The reaction infuriated the NDLEA officers and they went overboard shooting sporadically and stabbing Koro-toe with matchet.

Consequently, the culprit was said to have fled the scene but his colleagues, according to the eyewitness, were arrested by men of the Agege Police Divisional Headquarters, whose arrival, he noted, averted a reprisal.

The Lagos state police has arrested a man identified as "Taiwo Oyelabi" 50, living in Community Road, Badore, Iba, for sexually abusing and impregnating his daughter, 21. The suspect is a security guard. He is currently in the police custody while his pregnant daughter has been taken  to the hospital for proper medical attention.

When interrogated, Taiwo who spoke in pidgin english said

''I gave birth to her. I am the one that got her pregnant''.
