The Ibadan Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday April 19, 2018 arrest a man identified as "Oluokun Gabriel Adekola" before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on a six-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretense and money laundering to the tune of 22, 300 US Dollars.

Oluokun allegedly diverted the sum of 22, 300 US Dollars (Twenty-Two Thousand, Three Hundred United States Dollars) transferred to him by one Taiwanese lady (name withheld) who resides in China for the supply of 100metric tons of sesame seeds.

The defendant after collecting the sums, failed to transact the business as agreed but allegedly diverted the sum for a different purpose. The defendant however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

Upon his plea, counsel to the EFCC, Sanusi Galadanchi asked for a trial date. However, the defense counsel, Akim Maisolati informed the court of an application for bail dated 10th April, 2018 before the court. The prosecution however, did not oppose the application for bail. Justice Abdulmalik admitted the defendant to bail with the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira and one surety in like sum.

The defendant will be remanded in the Agodi prison pending the perfection of his bail application.
The case is adjourned to May 7, 2018 for trial.

Justice Dije Aboki of the Kano State High Court today convicted and sentenced one "Charles Ngezelonye" a former staff of the Nigeria Prison Service to 2 years imprisonment on a two count charge of cheating.

The convict’s journey to prison started after the Commission received a petition from one Ogueri Immaculate, alleging that the convict defrauded her of the sum of N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) under the pretext of securing her a job with the Nigeria Prison Service.

She further alleged that after she had paid the money, the convict failed to secure her the employment nor return her money.

One of the count read, "That you Ngezelonye Charles  sometime in 2013 and 2016 within the judicial Division of this court with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum five hundred thousand naira (#500,000.00) from Uheri Immaculate through your First Bank account No. 2026600369 on the false presence that Nigeria Prison are replacing staff and that you have slots to provide her employment, pretence which you knewto be false and you thereby committed cheating, an offence punishable under section 322 of the Penal Code".

After listening to the charge read against him, the convict pleaded guilty to the two count charge.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel Doglas Gift asked the court to convict in accordance with section 322 of the Penal Code. Counsel representing the convict, Modupe Spaine pleaded with court to tamper justice with mercy in sentencing the convict. Considering the fact that the convict has no previous criminal record, Justice Aboki sentenced him to one year imprisonment on each of the count.

He was also offered an option of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira ) fine on each of the two counts.

The sentence is to run concurrently.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, says when compared to the past, Nigerians currently enjoy better electricity supply. According to the Minister, this is the feedback he has gotten in recent times from right thinking Nigerians.

The Minister said the right thinking Nigerians have revealed to him that they now spend less amount of money to power their alternative source of electricity and enjoy a good quantity from the National grid. Fashola disclosed this at the April 2018 edition of the monthly power sector operators meeting in Umuahia, Abia State.

''We are on a journey to a destination of promise and eventual prosperity and I use this occasion to salute the efforts and contributions of all those who have brought us this far. Even if those who were most vocal in condemnation when the situation appeared very dire are now uttering some muted acknowledgment that it has improved, we must continue to draw inspiration from well-meaning and right thinking Nigerians who were gracious enough to publicly acknowledge that they are saving some money from diesel  and the money they used to spend for generators; they are running their generators for fewer hours; and they are getting comparably more power than before. It is because of those gracious and well-meaning and right thinking Nigerians that we must dig deeper, work harder and be more determined to improve service delivery” he said.

Sharing his experience on Facebook, Mr Norah Wrote:
 
"This taxi driver renewed my faith in people once again. I forgot my phone and an envelope containing a big chunk of money in his taxi. After running around and finally locating him, he delivered the phone and envelope with everything intact.

When I tried to give him 5k to appreciate him because of the amount involved, he refused. I thought the money was small. So I apologized and increased it to 10k. He took out 1k from the money and returned 9k to me. He insisted I don't need to pay him for doing the right thing.

I don't know how else to appreciate him than to bring it here. If you're good, don't lose hope. There are so many other people who are trying their best too to redeem our humanity.

He was not sure if the guy was the driver or passenger. The police man was the CPO of sagamu police station. He was driving then his car developed a fault. He packed it on the road. The victim had argument with him the police man. Then out of provocation he shot the guy on his head. He tried to escape bit was apprehended, then he tried to shoot another person but the other guy was fortunate to have a scratch. Emergency in Nigeria is shitty. People were more interested in killing the police man than to save the life of the man shot. I made sure I got him to the hospital. He is currently battling for his life. The DPO of Alapere police station was a professional and a gentle man. We need more police men like him. The victim is currently in coma. Your prayers are needed. Thank you
