Pensioners have laid siege to the Osun State secretariat in protest over unpaid entitlements.

Members of the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners on Thursday continued with their protest over the alleged non-payment of their gratuities and pensions by the state government.

Hundreds of aged pensioners, who assembled at the Olaiya Junction and armed with placards with various inscriptions, sang anti-government songs as they marched from the area to the state secretariat, which is almost five kilometres away.

Some of the protesters with walking sticks were not deterred by the distance as they booed and jeered at the occupants of a campaign vehicle of the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, who is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the coming election in the state.

Ademola Adeleke emerges PDP Governorship Candidate In Osun

Senator Ademola Adeleke has emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 22 governorship election in the south-western state.

He is currently the Senator representing Osun-went senatorial district since 10 July 2017 election.

He was born in Enugu (a city which he spent his early years), to the family of senator Ayoola Adeleke and Esther Adeleke.

Senator Ademola Adeleke started his primary education at Methodist Primary School, Surulere Lagos, before he switched to Old Oyo State and attended Nawarudeen Primary School, Ikire.

He progressed to The Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School, Ede also in the then Old Oyo State and later moved to Muslim Grammar School Ede, where he was the Senior Prefect and discharged his duties perfectly as a Leader of fellow students.

Adeleke left Nigeria to study Criminology at Jacksonville State University, Alabama in United State of America.

He fully went into politics when he ran for the post of Senator in the Osun West Senatorial District, he ran for the post in a bid to replace his brother Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who died in April 2017.

He was subsequently elected as Senator of the Osun West Senatorial district to replace his Late brother, in the July 2017, bye-election.

Senator Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the Osun Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary, ahead of the Sept. 22 election in the state.

In the primary which held today, he polled 7 more votes than his closest rival Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi

Adeleke, who became senator after winning a by-election occasioned by the death of his brother in April 2017, won Saturday’s primary by polling 1, 569 votes.

His closest challenger, Akin Ogunbiyi, polled a total of 1,562 votes, meaning Adeleke won the primary by the slim margin of seven votes.

Fatai Akingbade placed third with 52 votes, while Nathaniel Oke made up the rear with three votes.

The primary election held at the GMT Hotel and Event Centre along Ring Road in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Seriake Dickson, Governor Bayelsa State, who chaired the committee overseeing the electoral process, announced the results.

Adeleke would now go head-to-head with Gboyega Oyetola, who emerged candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday.

Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika on Wednesday unveiled the name of Nigeria’s national carrier, as well as the logo at the Farnborough International Airshow in London.

Sirika said the national carrier is Nigeria Air.

During the unveiling, the minister said,

"This is an important day for Nigeria. Largest economy in Africa, largest population, GDP of around half a billion dollars, and the only true aviation player in West and Central Africa.

Nigeria has unfortunately not been a serious player in Aviation for a long time. We used to be a dominant player, through Nigeria Airways, but sadly not anymore

This will be a National Carrier that is Private sector led and driven. It is a business, not a social service. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this.

The Nigerian Government will not own more than 5% (maximum) of the new National Carrier. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it

81 routes (domestic, regional and international) identified for now, for #NigeriaAir, out of more than a thousand considered.

We want to use this new private-sector-led airline to make a statement that, ‘Yes, Nigeria can do it!’ and we also want to promote our cultures and traditions. It will also create economic opportunities and jobs.

We’ve been talking to Airbus and Boeing (and they’re present at this event) regarding the aircraft for #NigeriaAir, and we will be making announcements very soon. We are currently negotiating

New terminals in Lagos and Abuja Airports will add 11 million passenger capacity in each of the two airports. Lagos currently does 8 million per annum (was built in 1979 for 200,000 passengers annually), while Abuja does 5 million.

Nigeria Air is scheduled to commence operations in December 2018."
