The governor-elect of the just concluded Ekiti State Governorship election, John Kayode Fayemi, has described his victory in Saturday’s governorship election as one for reclaiming the land and restoring Ekiti values.

Fayemi made this known while addressing newsmen in Isan-Ekiti shortly after he was declared the winner of the governorship polls. He said;

"The victory of this election, I believe, is for reclaiming the land and restoring the values of our people.

“Our values in Ekiti are respect for our leaders, commitment to our people, non brigandage, nor criminality and so on."

"This victory is a victory for all, it is not a victory for only Gov. Kayode Fayemi, it is a victory for all the Ekiti people."

He also described his victory as significant to the future of democracy in Nigeria. he added;

“This was just not an Ekiti election, I want people to understand that this election has a lot of significance to the future of democracy in Nigeria."

"The fact that we have witnessed a free, fair and transparent election process has huge importance for similar exercises like Osun State next door to us and eventually the national elections in February 2019."

The governor-elect thanked all the APC leaders, including President Muhammadu Buhari, National Leader of the APC, Sen. Bola Tinubu, former governor of Ogun, Chief Segun Osoba, former interim Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, as well as party leaders in the state.

He also thanked his family members, especially his wife, Bisi, for their support during the election campaign.

The PDP governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola has raised the alarm over plan to tinker with results of the election.


His campaign Spokesperson, Lere Olayinka said results in most of the Local Councils are currently being tinkered with.


He said; "Aside the fact that it was an election of the PDP versus all the security agencies in the country, we are confident of winning.


He said the various wards collating centres have been taken over by armed thugs backed by security agencies as it was before and during the election.


"Despite the intimidation and harassment by security agencies, we are still hopeful of winning the election but we are confronted with a clear plot to manipulate the results.


"We are therefore calling on all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the security agencies and INEC to allow the will of Ekiti people to prevail."

Fernando Hierro is going to leave job as Spain coach after last-16 World Cup exit, says federation.

Fernando Hierro, who stood in as Spain coach when Julen Lopetegui was sacked on the eve of the World Cup, will not continue in the role, the Spanish football federation said Sunday.

Under the former Real Madrid and Spain defender, who had little previous coaching experience, 2010 winners Spain lost on penalties to host nation Russia in the last 16.

He had rejected suggestions that the team would have fared better had the RFEF not decided to axe Lopetegui for taking on the Real Madrid job before the Finals.

Kayode Fayemi, has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose and INEC officials of plotting to compromise the July 14 governorship election.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti, the Deputy Director General (South) of KFCO, Bamidele Faparusi, said the INEC’s team was led by a former official, Ishaku Abbo, who according to him, has been living with the governor in the Government House since January.

He revealed that a secret meeting had held with three top officials of INEC from the national headquarters in the Government House.

The organisation gave the names of the officials as Egharevba John, Festus Aisien, Igidiogu Kelechi and Ishaku. Faparusi said;

“Curiously, these three top officials hold strategic positions in election management. One is from the Administration, one is from Stores and Distribution Dept while the other is ICT top official.

“For the reasons best known to them, only the Government House was their exclusive port of call; APC was never in the picture.

“When Fayose is up to something sinister, he will accuse an innocent man of committing that evil. And so immediately he made the allegation, we knew he had concluded an evil agenda,”

According to him, an investigation into the fraud ring in the Government House led to shocking revelations that some sensitive INEC documents had been illegally produced in the Government House with the help of the INEC officials.

“Documents already produced include stamps, PVCs, Result sheets (Form EC 8A) and INEC accreditation forms.

“We are calling on INEC headquarters to note these atrocities being perpetrated by its corrupt officials to tarnish the image of the electoral body.”

Faparusi also called on security agencies to investigate all these activities and bring the culprits to book.

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has claimed the Peoples Democratic Party of planned to loot the nation’s treasury for 60 years.

Bola Tinubu stated this in a goodwill message at the national convention of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja on Saturday night.

He said;

“The doubters who gave APC no chance of existence or of continued survival have gotten their reply in full. Their envious prayers and complaints have been answered in reverse.

“They wanted to see the end of us and our pursuit of good governance for Nigeria. You should not forget, as I shall never forget, the strong efforts they made to stop us in the courts.

“There were twelve cases brought trying to stop us from merging, from registering the new party, then attempting to bar our candidate from the election.

“Lacking the courage to face the democratic will of the people, they tried to misuse the courts as a weapon against democracy.

“We thank the judiciary for following the letter and spirit of the constitution by dismissing this dirty dozen of malicious cases filed against us.

“With their schemes foiled, those who tried to destroy us must bear witness to the destruction of their edifice of corrupt governance and their dreams of unjust domination of our nation.

“While they planned a lifetime of greedy enrichment by looting the people’s resources and the public treasury for 60 years, we moved to reform the economy to bring development and aid to the poor. ”

Tinubu said that while some antagonists of the APC called for hate and division, members of the ruling party strove for compassion and unity.

“When they hoisted the standard of bias, we raised the flag of justice and the chevron of fairness,” he added.

The Peoples Democratic Party, Ekiti Chapter has blasted Kayode Fayemi, for shunning the palace of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, during the mega rally held on Tuesday.

The party said it was obvious that the APC did not have respect for the traditional institution.

“It is obvious that APC as a party does not have respect for the traditional institution.”

The Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Lere Olayinka, said it was the height of disrespect for the traditional institution for Fayemi to have told the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, that it was not necessary for him and other APC governors that came to pay homage to the traditional ruler of Ado Ekiti, the state capital. He said;

“It is, however, not a surprise that Fayemi made his guests, especially the Vice President to shun the palace of Ewi of Ado Ekiti, because he cannot point to any major landmark achievement of his four years reign as governor. For four years, Fayemi promised to complete the amphitheatre in the palace of Ewi, he never did.

“The hall where Fayemi and his guests would have been received and the amphitheatre where his supporters would have seated were built by the PDP government of Governor Ayodele Fayose.”

Responding to the accusation, the Director of Media and Publicity, Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Mr. Wole Olujobi, said the PDP had run out of ideas by delving into an issue that did not add value to its campaign.

“Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation is focusing on issues of development and good life for Ekiti people among who are the obas.

“It is on record that Dr. Kayode Fayemi, few days ago, set up a high-power delegation to visit the obas in their palaces and the delegation has almost completed its assignment. The plan is that by the time the delegation completes the first round of visits, Fayemi will take the last lap of visits before the election.

“This is Fayemi that bought brand new cars for all the obas, rehabilitated their palaces, increased their allowances, instituted a free health service called “Ilera Laafin” for all the obas and never allowed the obas to stay in the sun for late hours waiting to receive him.”

“The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, who Fayose and his anointed son are defending today, suffered the humiliation of threat of dethronement. Oba Adejugbe Aladesanmi became the victim of ceaseless media attacks with Fayose setting various traps for the monarch to dethrone him.”

A man who allegedly sacrificed his four-year-old daughter by slitting her throat was arrested by Jodhpur rural police on Saturday.

The incident occurred at Pipad in Jodhpur district late on Thursday. Police superintendent (Jodhpur rural) Rajan Dushyant said the accused – identified as 26-year-old Nawab Ali Qureshi – has confessed to the crime.

“I am a Namazi and I love my child more than my own life. I offered my daughter as a sacrifice,” police quoted the accused as saying during an interrogation.

According to police, Qureshi had brought his daughter back from her grandmother’s place on Thursday. He fed the child with sweets and fruits from the market before taking her home.

Late that night, while the rest of the family was fast asleep, he woke the victim and took her to the veranda. There, he set her on his lap and read a kalma (prayer).

According to the accused’s confession, it was at this juncture that “Satan came over him” – making him allegedly slit his daughter’s throat. After the deed was done, he went back to sleep.

Police said Qureshi’s wife, Shabana, stepped out around 3 am to find her daughter’s bloodied body on the veranda.

The Enugu police have confirmed the death of a family of seven in an autocrash which occurred at Ugwu-Onyeama on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway on Sunday morning.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said it occurred about 8am on the Enugu axis of the expressway. Amaraizu said the accident involved a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ENU75YY, belonging to a mass transit company.

He said that the two vehicles that were on top speed collided in one lane of the expressway. According to him, seven passengers in the Toyota car who are members of the same family and one other from the bus lost their lives in the accident.

The police spokesperson said four others sustained injuries in the crash and were receiving medical attention at the same hospital.

A male suicide bomber who was heading towards Monday Market, last night, on sighting the massive Police deployment at Oando petrol station in Post Office Maiduguri, Borno State, hurriedly detonated the improvised explosive device strapped to his body killing only himself.

Borno State Police Command immediately deployed men of the EOD to sanitize the scene and the area has been rendered safe.

Commissioner of Police in Borno, CP Damian Chukwu, in reaction, urged residents of the state to go about their lawful activities without fear.

He also assured them of the readiness of the command to ensure a hitch free Ramadan celebration.

A yet-to-be-named pastor and his accomplice were, yesterday, caught tearing and burning the Quran in Ankpa, Kogi State.


The incident took place near the town’s central mosque. Their action made some residents apprehend and beat them up and they would have been maimed, but for the timely arrival of the police.

They were later dragged to the palace of the King of Ankpa before being transferred to Lokoja, the state capital.

The Nigerian Immigration Service Katsina state command has rescued 9 human trafficking victims and arrested 4 suspected human traffickers in Katsina state.

The state comptroller of the service, Ajisafe Joshua, identified the victims as Obike Blessing Jessica, 36 (Abia); Abokede Adeola, 37 (Oyo); Popoola Emmanuel, 26 (Ogun); Ugho Prosper, 31 (Imo).

Others are: Ibeze Doris, 40 (Edo), Oladide Olakunle, 43 (Osun); Fadairo Olufemi, 38 (Ogun); Oluigbo Michael, 26 (Enugu) and Musaw Farida, 21 (Ogun). He revealed that the victims were rescued at Charanchi Patrol Base checkpoint in the state.

“They started their Journey from Lagos with intention of traveling to Niger Republic to obtain biometric capture for U.S Visa at American Embassy in Niger Republic under the facilitation of one agent named Balogun Taiwo.

The victims were individually recruited by different agents from Lagos and Port Harcourt. These nine rescued suspected victims will be handed over to our Service Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.”

The victims said they individually paid N65,000 to their agents for the trip. One of them, Obike, said she took the option after her request for visa was turned down at the USA Embassy in Nigeria.
