Politics / Cacovid-19: Food Palliatives To Niger State To Be Distributed Transparently by Quickjobs(m): 11:54pm On Jul 20, 2020
Niger State Coordinator for the Coalition of Private Sector Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad says donation of food items to the State to cushion the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the vulnerable people in the state is still ongoing, hence the items can not be distributed for now.

Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad announced that out of the 88 trucks of the items expected to be delivered to the State, only 73 trucks have so far been received while 15 of such trucks are being awaited.

The State Coordinator said the items which are to be shared as a full package to 47, 611 vulnerable households in the State in accordance to the guidelines given by the CACOVID, can only be distributed when supplies are complete as captured in the distribution guidelines presented by the donors.

"We have received items fine, but it is a continuous process and until these items are complete, no distribution will be made because in the template of CA COVID all these items will have to be put together to make a package". The State Coordinator explained.

He said only 9,000 bags of rice which is one of the major items have been received as against the 47,611 bags that are expected, hence they can not be distributed for now.

While noting that the issue is not peculiar to Niger State alone, the coordinator maintained that he is in constant communication with the National Secretariat of CACOVID for update.

He added that about six States including Benue are also yet to distribute due to incomplete supply of items.

Earlier, the Chairman of the State Taskforce on COVID-19 who is also the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Matane re-iterated that Government is not in anyway hoarding the food items donated by CACOVID but making efforts to ensure that the guidelines given by the donors are adhered to.

Alhaji Ahmed Matane explained that the food items which started coming in about 2months ago, are intact, adding that the process of supply is still ongoing and beneficiaries will be identified and profiled when the items have been completely supplied.

He assured the people that in line with the zero tolerance to corruption policy of the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello-led administration, the process will be transparently carried out in due course.

The palliative items supplied include cartons of noodles, spaghetti, Macaroni bags of rice and semovita as well as sugar among others.

The items are currently stored at three different locations of Government stores in Minna, Niger state.

Politics / Rehabilitation Work On The Minna City Gate-chanchaga Road Kicks Off by Quickjobs(m): 2:52pm On Jul 13, 2020
REHABILITATION WORK ON THE MINNA CITY GATE-CHANCHAGA ROAD KICKS OFF: WORK TO BE COMPLETED IN SIXTEEN WEEKS

The Niger State Government has flagged off the rehabilitation of the Minna City Gate-Chanchaga Road despite the economic crisis facing the Country.

The rehabilitation work which would gulp 403 Million Naira is expected to be completed in sixteen weeks as captured in the contract agreement.

The Chief of Staff to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello who doubles as the Chairman, Infrastructure Project Monitoring Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe flagged off the road repairs project on behalf of the Governor.

He assured that the project will be strictly supervised to ensure value for money.

Though the State Government is aware of the Federal Government policy of not refunding State Government for rehabilitating Federal roads, the Governor has directed the Infrastructure Monitoring Committee to engage the relevant Federal Government Authorities towards possible refund to the State Government as the road is a Federal road but is being fixed at the instance of the State Government due to its deplorable condition and peculiarity.

The road when fixed will facilitate and ease movement of goods and services especially by the road users plying the route.

The H&M Company was given the contract having showed the capacity to work all the year round.

However, the State Government said it is constrained with regulating the movement of articulated vehicles across the State as most of the roads are Federal Government roads, adding
that discussions are on, with relevant Federal Government Agencies to come up with measures of regulating the movement of articulated vehicles.

Politics / Niger State Governor Advocates End To Almajiri System by Quickjobs(m): 9:47am On May 29, 2020
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has advocated end to the current practice of the almajiri system of seeking Islamic knowledge in a country far away from the homes of underaged Children.

Governor Sani Bello disclosed his thoughts when he took delivery of items donated by the Nigeria Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19, (CACCOVID), a joint initiative of leading private sector leaders and the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) in Minna.

He maintained that it is a wrong practice that has been ongoing for the past 200 years where children of about three to five years are separated from their parents in supposed quest for religious knowledge.

"I feel it is absolutely wrong to separate a child, three-four-five years old from home, send him to a town where he has no one to take care of him and end up in the streets where he is abused.

"This is the worst form of human abuse you can think of.

A child of three, four years must have parental guidance", he stated.

The governor added that this is an era where parents should produce children they have ability and capability to cater for and desist from shying away from their responsibilities under the guise of sending them away to seek Islamic knowledge.

He noted that, with Islamic Malams in virtually all wards in the country, children would be forced to seek any form of Islamic Knowledge within their environment such that they receive parental care instead of leaving them for the society to take over their responsibilities.

"So parents should own-up to their responsibility of taking care of their children", he said.

The governor is of the opinion that, with the support of the Northern Governors' Forum, the age long practice of almajiri system being practised would soon be a thing of the past.

He disclosed that Niger State government is working on a policy through the affiliation of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to streamline a system where the children will acquire both western and religious knowledge in their localities, thereby giving no room on whatsoever ground for parents to send their wards away from them.

The governor promises that the present sangaya system of almajiri school activities will be regulated soon.

He said before repatriating the almajiris to their States of origin, such States would be properly informed so that they receive them, give them proper care before reuniting them with their parents.

The items donated to the State by CACOVID in their support to the fight against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) include: 100 beds, 100 hospital overhead tables, one mobile x-ray machine, one ultrasound machine, two ICU beds, 20, 700 pieces of medical equipment which include, 250 face shield, 1, 000 protective goggles, 3,000 KN95 Face Mask, 10, 000 disposable latex gloves, 500 elbow rubber loves and 1, 000 PPE Overall.

These items are to support government win the fight against COVID-19.

Governor Sani Bello said the items which have been installed at a public school provided as an isolation centre would be used to isolate the almajiris and assured that the equipment will be properly handled by the team of medical personnel in the State and will also add value to the health sector.
