I feared for Nigeria when we got that qualification pairing with a Ghanaian team that suffered about the worst humiliation @ the AFCON in the hands of one the lowliest teams in Africa, Comoros. They had to redeem themselves by securing the WC spot with all their might at our expense.

A consortium led by Portugal's builder Mota-Engil and two Chinese ventures has been shortlisted by Nigeria's Lagos state to build a $2.5 billion bridge that is expected to relieve severe congestion in the mega city, an official said on Sunday.

The 37 kilometre Fourth Mainland Bridge, will be built under a public-private partnership. It will include three toll plazas, nine interchanges and a design speed of 120 kilometres per hour, said Jubril Gawat, a senior spokesperson for the Lagos state governor.

Mota-Engil is partnering with China Communication and Construction Corporation and China Road and Bridge Corporation in the bid.

China Gezhouba Group Company and China Geo-Engineering Corporation joint venture and a consortium led by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation are the two other shortlisted bidders.

The winner of the bid will be announced before the end of the year, said Gawat.

Nigeria has begun the process of refining gold, gemstones and other mineral resources in the six geo-political regions of Nigeria.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, said this when he appeared on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.

According to him, adding value to the country’s mineral resources will go a long way in creating jobs and wealth for Nigerians.

He said six plants were being set up in the various regions to process mineral resources deposited in those regions.

'‘We have set out to do six regional projects and one of them is the gold souk in Kano, the North West region.''

“Before now, our gold was being exported in its raw form for close to nothing to foreign countries for processing and we end up buying them expensively.''

'‘We have trained people who will make jewellery and they will be resident in the plant,” he said.

He said similar plants had been set up in the North-east, Bauchi, for processing kaolin, while in the North-central, Kogi State was chosen for the establishment of a gold smelting plant.

Mr Adegbite also said in the South-west, in Ibadan, a gemstone plant had been established while in the South-east, a lead processing plant was established in Ebonyi.

The minister said in the South-south region, a baryte processing plant had been established, adding that “Nigeria imports baryte to the tune of 300 million dollars every year.”

He said the six regional projects were at an advanced stage of completion and would be commissioned shortly.

After about 62 years of forced nationhood as a result of crude oil, all the enduring legacies are products of colonialism by the western imperialists. In fact Nigeria needs to be recolonised again.

Before u could drive from enugu to awka to onitsha to owerri to abakiliki and then back to owerri. Not more than 5 hours now u cant even travel for 30 mins to 1 hr accross South east
