By the way, this refinery actually positions Nigeria officially as the most industrialised black nation on Earth, with no competitor.

According to wiki:

''The Dangote Refinery is an oil refinery owned by Aliko Dangote that is under construction in Lekki, Nigeria. When completed, it is expected to have the capacity to process about 650,000 barrels per day of crude oil, making it the largest single-train refinery in the world. The investment is over 25 billion US dollars.

High complexity

The Dangote Oil Refinery will have a Nelson complexity index of 10.5 which means that it will be more complex than most refineries in the United States (average 9.5) or Europe (average 6.5).

(The Nelson complexity index basically increases with the number and capacity of chemical procedures after the distillation, e.g. hydrocracking, NHT, CCR, RFCC, polymerization etc.)

At full production, the facility will process about 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily, transported via pipelines from oil fields in the Niger Delta, where natural gas will also be sourced to supply the fertilizer factory and be used in electrical generation for the refinery complex.

This corresponds with 50,000,000 litres (13,000,000 US gal) of Euro-V quality gasoline and 17,000,000 litres (4,500,000 US gal) of diesel daily, as well as aviation fuel and plastic products.

With a greater capacity than the total output of Nigeria's existing refining infrastructure, the Dangote Refinery will be able to meet the country's entire domestic fuel demand, as well as export refined oil and petroleum products.

Dangote Refinery will cut Ghana’s fuel imports and reduce pump price, says NPA Ghana Chief Executive

- The completion of the refinery is expected to have a huge impact on Ghana’s downstream sector, which is currently deregulated.

- Ghana is presently facing the challenge of a continuous rise in the price of petroleum products due to high importation costs and a deregulated downstream industry.

The West African nation, which has been a net exporter of crude oil since 2010, is highly vulnerable to oil price shocks because it imports a significant share of petroleum products consumed in the country, mainly from Europe (Rotterdam). As a result, their economy is subject to volatility in international markets for crude and petroleum products, as seen recently with the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Things are, however, expected to change as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, believes the coming onstream of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is expected to transform the Ghanaian downstream sector.

According to him, the coming onstream of the 650,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) Nigerian refinery will transform the Ghanaian downstream sector through the reduction in the cost of importation of petroleum products into Ghana.

Speaking at the 16th Oil Trading and Logistics Expo in Lagos, Abdul-Hamid said the completion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery project would be a breakthrough for the West African region, which has for a long time depended on the importation of petroleum products.

“Right now, Ghana’s downstream industry is completely deregulated, and there is no petrol subsidy in Ghana. For a deregulated market where the importers recover their costs fully, importing from Nigeria will certainly be more cost-effective and cheaper than importing from Rotterdam in the Netherlands, where we get the bulk of our fuel in Ghana,” he said.

“As we all know, the price builds up for a litre of fuel will include the cost of shipment, transportation, insurance, and others, but if we are importing from Nigeria into Ghana, this will bring down the cost of fuel in our country,” he added.....

The cost of food and basics in Ghana is almost twice higher than the cost of food and basics in Nigeria, when you convert both currencies.

You don't seem to understand how currencies work.

People in Ghana are protesting and demonstrating and going on strike for a reason.

Prices are skyrocketing, their currency is in free fall, and their economy is in tatters.
PoliticsRe: Why Can't Today's African Reject The Outcome Of The Berlin Conference? by Quintopia:
owobokiri:
Nigeria is not working,.. that's the uncomfortable reality. You create states to make them work for the people and not to have some sexy glamorized edifices that make sense in terms of size but totally useless in terms of their positive effects on the people. What matters is the efficacy of the state.., the people matter more than the states. Essentially, states should be formed ONLY where such states can prove very effective in improving the living standards of the people and not just to have the big states for the bragging rights. Nigeria, obviously doesn't foot that bill.., but Algeria or South Africa are pushing hard to be seen as good examples of big states in Africa that are working for their people.

So states in Africa should be created based on how viable they can be and NOT based on how big they may look. Singapore, Norway and Sweden may not be up to the population of Lagos even when combined, but these countries are economically, militarily and diplomatically stronger than a wobbling giant like Nigeria. This is because those countries work but Nigeria doesn't. Two of them (Norway and Sweden) are nation states while Singapore is a multi nation state, whose national culture has been moulded based on the cultural template/platform set by the dominant Chinese Han ethnic group. But this is possible in Singapore because of two factors:
1) The Chinese quantity in the Singaporean population is the majority and
2) The Chinese population were able to provide a modern and very purposeful leadership that is now responsible for transforming the tiny island from a basket case in the 60s into a "first world economy" in just a generation!

In Nigeria, the Hausa language is the most widely spoken language across ethnicities. The Hausa Fulani, just like the Han in China, Singapore or Taiwan, are the most politically dominant as we speak. Hausa language is spoken in many parts of West and Central Africa too..., in over six to seven countries! Just as the Han language helped to bridge the gap between cultures in some parts of south east Asia and made nations work, the Hausa language could have been a bridge building instrument for several West African cultures, especially in the northern parts of West Africa. But that is not the case because you can not give what you don't have. Hausa-Fulani elites have their loyalties all over the place. Some bow to Saudi Arabia, few bow to Africa while the rest bow to London and Washington! That's a recipe for disaster. Under such realities, you can't force folks to model their states like the Singaporeans or the Chinese, unless you are willing to use maximum force to do so. Rather, it will be far better to look at the nation - States of Europe as a possible example. People of the same cultural affinities coming together to form workable unions for themselves.
Your first statement is false, and hence the rest of your post is based on a faulty foundation.

What do you mean by ''Nigeria is not working'?

That is simply your personal opinion and is not based on fact or reality.

Nations do not just rise and succeed and grow without any problems or challenges.

Go and read the histories of all the countries you see ''working'' today.

Their histories are written in blood, sweat, tears, disagreements, conflicts, and other woes, from which they emerged and became strong nations.

Nigeria's challenges are not insurmountable. Not even close.

Today you complain about Fulani herdsmen, boko haram etc, whose combined atrocities may have led to maybe 100,000 deaths in the last decade.

Can you compare that to what Russians experienced under Stalin, whose dictatorship caused the death of over 10 million Russians?

What about Germany under Hitler? 10 million dead, and their major cities like Hamburg, Cologne, Dresden and Berlin bombed to ashes.

Or what about what South Africa went through during apartheid?

What about the USA itself that endured a bloody civil war, slavery, and civil rights upheavals?

China that you mentioned, their history is soaked in the blood of millions of Chinese dissidents, killed and tortured for opposing the brutal dictatorship there, and its communist policies.

Yet they all survived these tragedies, and proceeded to excel as nations, so why can YOU not overcome a few illiterate Fulani herdsmen instead of destroying and balkanizing your country?

pansophist:
If the US establishes bases in Nigeria, then it is official, you have nailed your coffin and sold off your independence. A military base is the new colonial flag. Why do you think Russia doesn't want the US bases even in Ukraine, a neighbor? Why do you think China's redline is that there should be no military base in Taiwan or else it would reclaim the island by force?

Past Nigerian administrations know that bases are a way you sell off your independence. Germany, Japan, and South Korea are countries that are vassals of the US. There are mass protests from the people of these countries that they the US should get out, but nothing changes, they are subjects. No one should be under the illusion that military bases are to help your security. If this is the case, then why is the US not hosting military bases from other countries then? Why only them?

Most importantly, one thing people seem not to know is that military bases are not subjected to national laws, it enjoys extraterritoriality. So if the US installs one in Nigeria, then the Nigerian government simply has no power over it. They can come in, do as they like, and we just have to accept it. Their soldiers are not subject to national law, and that part of the land with their base is basically US soil. That's how you sell your sovereignty (if you have one).

Nigeria's security issues don't justify a base. Assistance can be provided without building one here. By the way, the Nigerian government is not serious about security issues, because if they do, the motivation they use in chasing ipobs would have been channeled to security issues. And if Peter Obi dare install a base in Nigeria, I will hate him for life.
If Obi makes moves to allow the US establish a military base here, he will be toppled in a military coup. Guaranteed.

There is no provision for a ''referendum'' in the Nigerian constitution.

No nation decides on its existence by forced referendum.

The USA for instance has many secessionist groups. In fact the state of Texas has a very big secessionist group.

I think you should worry more of bandits and book haram terrorists ravaging your country than US military in your country...
There is strong research out there that suggests that the US and other powerful western nations are actually the remote sponsors of Boko Haram, al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

They target your country for destabilization by sending in these 'terrorists', and then when your society breaks down or is overwhelmed by all the violence, they come in as 'saviours', taking over what they wouldn't have been able to without that original infiltration by the 'terrorists'.

That's how it works.

what's the disadvantages of them having their base here?. I think they have one in Germany.
The west wants Africa to remain a source of raw materials for western industry. They don't want Africa to industrialize. So governments which have a zeal or potential to change that narrative and make Africa a manufacturing and industrial giant, are seen as a threat to the western economies.

So establishing a US military base in Nigeria, Africa's biggest economy, a nation that is seen worldwide as the hope of the black race for its first advanced superpower, constitutes a major victory for western hegemony, and quite possibly the final nail in the coffin of African independence.

Those are the stakes, put briefly.

US interests in Germany are very different. The US bases there were set up afer WW2 as part of the German surrender terms after Hitler's defeat, with US forces established there to help prevent a slide back into nazism and dictatorship, while serving as a barrier against Russian aggression in Western Europe.
PoliticsWill Peter Obi Allow US Military Bases In Nigeria? by Quintopia(op): 11:11pm On Oct 27, 2022
I AM VERY SUSPICIOUS OF WHO IS PUSHING THIS GUY remotely..

Western intelligence agencies are known to use 'popular' candidates whom they sponsor remotely, to achieve their agenda in target countries. Obama was one such person. Trump was another.

The USA has been wanting to establish a military base in Nigeria for decades, and Nigerian leaders have refused 100% on account of the need to protect Nigeria's sovereignty and independence.

Peter Obi should be asked if he intends to allow the establishment of a US military base in Nigeria.

If he even hesitates before answering, he should be barred from contesting these elections.
