Because most of the people that had voted for him, 2011, are not amongst his most virulent critics now. As if people don't change or circumstances either change people or reveal a hidden part of them. Let's stop being hypocritical, El rufai has a huge following in the social media because a lot of Nigerians agree with his views. |

obi2012: Why not deregulate the price, encourage people to refine locally and generate competition to drive down prices? We might as well act like the operating cost of any locally refined product will allow our local refiners to sell at a lower cost than the international ones, even when freight and insurance costs are factored in; as long as they get crude at international/non subsidised rates. The best for the nation is to either form PPPs between the NNPC and private partners; where the crude set out for local consumption (over 400,000 barrels) are refined. Or the crude supply is subsidised and the refined products subsidy is scrapped; thereby subsidising production instead of consumption and making local refining viable. Else, we can keep kidding ourselves, as if the local production of cement has made it cheaper than the internationally produced ones. |
Good thing for INEC and PDP that Nigerians are beginning to believe their votes count. |
These are the sort of persons that should win national merit awards and get national acclaim; which should inspire other young Nigerians. Instead a crop of morally obscure politicians get to award themselves with something that should be meant for recognising excellence and brilliance. |

Lovely, thought provoking write up. |
I am constantly amazed that people give China's willingness to carry out straight batter or exchange with African countries as a plus for Africans. The so called terms attached to most trade, loans and grants from the west are geared towards the long term growth of the economies. These same strings are being attached to loans and grants given by EU to their member states of Ireland, Italy, Greece, etc. Yet most will have us believe that the terms are only targeted at African nations. Haven't countries like Argentina, Brazil, Malaysia, etc gone through reforms instigated by the IMF and come out stronger? While we jettison ours midway and continue our profligate and unplanned ways expecting things to change. |

GEJ has no need for Nigerians to vote for him at the general elections. He only needs to win the PDP primary and he has a home run. Basically the general elections will be won by PDP whether Nigerians vote for them or not. They no longer engage in crude election rigging which entails that the act will be visible and easily testified to. Rather at the point of data capture (voters' registration) the main rigging is done as the linux software have been programmed to input false data. The electorates queue up and vote peacefully while the observers hail the process and everyone go home with smiles. If you doubt this then ponder why the Appeal court president was removed and the acting president stopped the forensic examination of the electoral process claiming that such will amount to invasion of privacy (what flimsy excuse). We will just keep getting suchstatistically improbable data as was gotten in the South-south and South-east; and those of the northern areas. The results will be quite subtly manipulated. |

Why don't the hypocritical Northerners stop the repatriation of excise duty being collected from the distillers and brewers; if they feel alcohol is such evil? |

I think it is okay when indigenes of other states that have resided in Imo for particular period (say,5 years) get to send there kids to school tuition free. Allowing everybody to have access to a subsidized education at the state's expense will result in a high demand/enrollment and inability of both the state's treasury nor the institutions infrastructure to handle such explosion in student population. |
Makes me proud to have my roots from Imo. Some news from naija to smile about. |
I'm guessing whatever beggars are on the streets of Abuja will be chased away. |
Could you put the link/source, cheers. |
While the banning of the drug is a good development, as it shows that the executive isn't insulated from the happenings in the society and is working for the citizenry; I don't think the primary use of the drug is for the negative use it has been put to. Perhaps banning the over the counter sale of the drug should be a better approach, making it a drug to be gotten by prescription only. But then that is Nigeria.... |
It would seem that they are up to their usual shenanigans. Publicly trying cases, not properly carrying out a thorough investigation thereby leaving grounds for their suits dismissal, and the more common plea for denial of bail for individuals that they don't have comprehensive case files on. These agencies should properly do there jobs, and if they are after the publicity, then they should whittle down the low profile cases and devote more time and resources to properly executing the high profile ones. |
Which do you think? |
countries and issues like this make me tamp down on my complaints about the Nigerian situation. |
