Politics / Atiku Not Our Candidate, Says Ohanaeze Ndigbo by rajiaishat(f): 5:16am On Jan 11, 2019
A major disagreement has broken out among Igbo leaders on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.

Some Igbo leaders met on November 14, last year to “adopt” Atiku, who is running on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

But the apex Igbo socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has distanced itself from the alleged endorsement of Atiku for the February 16 election.

The one-day summit on November 14, last year, in Enugu, endorsed Atiku because of what it called his disposition to restructuring the country if voted into office.

At the one-day summit, elder statesman Prof. Ben Nwabueze, 86, called on them to “do me the honour of achieving the success of the (Atiku/Peter Obi) ticket before I am gone”.

“We must ensure the survival of the Igbo race in Nigeria and it is only through the success of that ticket that we can get it”, the law professor said.

Nwabueze, who chaired the meeting, explained that the ticket would “ensure our survival”.

At the meeting were: Ambassador George Obiozor, Senator Ike Nwachukwu, Ohanaeze President Chief Nnia Nwodo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Prof ABC Nwosu, Senator Chris Anyanwu, Senator Theodore Orji, Senator Ben Obi and Chief Achike Udenwa.

Also there were Prof. Uche Azikiwe, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Chief Emeka Ugwu-Oju, Chief Garry Igariwey, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, Prof Osita Ogbu, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Chief Lawrence Nwuruku, Prof Walter Ofonagoro and Archbishop Maxwell Anikwenwa.

Politics / Buhari To Tinubu, Others: I’ve Confidence You Can Deliver by rajiaishat(f): 5:07am On Jan 11, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday met with the Co-chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other members at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He spoke of his confidence that his party will win the February 16 presidential election and advised the team not to slow down its pace.

The meeting was convened to consider and approve the structure and operation modalities of the Campaign Council.

Buhari said: “It is my pleasure to welcome all of you members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council to this inaugural meeting. Our main objective is to serve as the forum for collective decision-making to enhance the effectiveness of the campaign effort.

“I would like to appeal to you to dedicate and commit yourself once again to the task at hand. There is no doubt that victory is with us; it is ours, but that shouldn’t mean we should rest even for a moment.

“Even though we are confident of winning, I urge you to work as hard as you can so that we can maximise the scale and extent of our victory. I urge you to rise to the challenge of the great expectations this party and Nigerians have for you and the confidence that I personally have in the ability of all of you to deliver.

“You are the cream of the party and I assure you that with unity of purpose and effective harmony and communication, there is no political opponent you cannot overcome. Our agenda for this meeting is to consider and approve the structure and operational modalities of the Presidential Campaign Council – the terms of reference of your various directorates and organogram that will determine how you will relate with each other and how you will eventually discharge your responsibilities in the campaign.”

Politics / We Sold Obsolete Materials, Not Ballot Papers – INEC by rajiaishat(f): 4:45am On Jan 11, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday said what it sold in its Cross River office were obsolete materials and not ballot papers as alleged in some quarters.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Frankland Briyai, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Calabar.
He was reacting to reports of an impounded truck in the state with obsolete electoral materials and some 2015 ballot papers.
Briyai explained that the commission had a lot of obsolete materials in the office and that sometime in 2018, someone bought all the materials.
He, however, stated that the disposed materials did not include any ballot paper.

Politics / Dogara To Buhari: Solve Insecurity Challenges Now Or Leave by rajiaishat(f): 9:52pm On Jan 10, 2019
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to vacate the office if he can not fix the insecurity challenges facing the country.
Dogara also accused northern Nigerian elders over their ‘silence’ on insecurity in the region in contrast to what they did during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Dogara spoke in Lafia, Nasarawa state at the campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday where he also accused the President of being indifferent to the plight of University teachers and their demands for better working environment.
He said President Buhari is not sincere in the resolution of the crisis.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan on Thursday, Dogara noted that the silence of the northern elders on insecurity in the region could be taken as enabling the poor management of security in the country, especially in the north, a situation that continues to threaten the nation’s democracy and its very foundations.

Politics / Assu To Participate In 2019 Poll by rajiaishat(f): 2:56pm On Jan 05, 2019
Despite the on-going strike action, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu just confirmed that ASUU has agreed to participate in 2019 General Elections.

This comes after the two ad hoc committees set up to meet ASUU and NLC wrapped up a meeting this afternoon.

The ad hoc committees were set up in a bid to drive some important components of the electoral process.
Prof. Mahmood said: “The Commission is aware that the conduct of a General Election is the biggest and most complex logistics operation a nation can undertake. Sensitive and non-sensitive materials procured by the Commission must be delivered to almost 200,000 locations nationwide, ranging from the polling units to the various Ward, Local Government, State and the National collation centres for the 1,558 constituencies into which elections will be conducted.
“At the end of the elections, sensitive materials will be retrieved from the same locations. The same process will be repeated for each of the two phases of the 2019 General Elections, namely the Presidential and National Assembly elections holding on 16thFebruary and the Governorship, State Assembly and Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on 2ndMarch.

Politics / Tears As Eight PDP Accident Victims Are Buried by rajiaishat(f): 6:22pm On Jan 04, 2019
Tears flowed heavily in Oju at the funeral rites of eight members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that died in a ghastly motor accident last Friday on their way to the Zone C senatorial campaign flag-off in Agatu.
PDP chieftains, candidates and officials as well as bereaved family members battled to hold back tears as they took turns to give orations at the combined church service.
Governor Samuel Ortom, in a funeral oration, described their deaths as tragic and painful, saying the patriots died when their services were most needed in the build up to the 2019 general elections.
The governor prayed to God to grant their souls eternal rest and their family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
He directed the immediate appointment of one member of the families to provide succor for them.

Ortom also told mourners the excavated portion of the Aliade-Oju road would be fixed within three weeks.

He charged the Igede nation to remain peaceful as they go into the final phase of the 2019 elections.

Former Senate President David Mark and senatorial candidate for Zone C, Comrade Abba Moro, in separate orations, said they were heartbroken and felt a sense of personal losses.

They consoled the bereaved families and prayed God to grant their fallen heroes and heroine eternal rest, describing their death as tragic and traumatising.

Member representing Oju/Obi federal constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, who could not hold tears, said he lost key members of his campaign team in the accident.

He pointed out that the day would remain a black day in the history of Igede nation.

Bishop Methodist Church in Oju Local Government Area, Rt. Reverend Odeh Ocheke, urged the congregation to prepare for the last day as nobody knows when and where it would come.

Ortom had paid homage on the Adirahu Ny Igede, Chief Oga Ero, a retired Commissioner of Police, on arrival where he condoled the entire Igede nation on the tragic loss of their illustrious sons and daughters.

Politics / PDP Not A Threat To Buhari’s Re-election — Keyamo by rajiaishat(f): 2:36pm On Jan 04, 2019
Festus Keyamo (SAN), Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential Campaign Council, says the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is not a threat in the 2019 elections.

He said that the PDP would never serve as a threat to the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari

Keyamo made the claim on Thursday during the inauguration of the Women and Youths Wing of the APC Presidential Campaign Team in Abuja.

However, he called on APC supporters to intensify efforts towards ensuring that the party recorded massive victory at the polls.

“ They are no longer a threat to President Muhammadu Buhari because their effort is collapsing. They have more than four hundred groups but the groups are now dropping on a weekly basis.

“ It clearly shows that they cannot function without public funds and they discovered that it is no longer business as usual,” he said.

Keyamo also said that the opposition party has been disseminating false information to tarnish the image of President Buhari which would not help them at the polls.

Also speaking, the former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, commended the role of Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari for galvanizing support for the re-election of the President.

Abba assured the President of their determination to mobilise women and youths to ensure victory in the 2019 elections.

On her part, Mrs Pauline Tallen, expressed confidence that the women and youths of the party would do their best to ensure Buhari’s victory.

“ Women and youths are the backbone of every electioneering campaign and we will engage them door-to-door.

“ Mr President, we believe in you, as women we believe our hard work will be the reward,’’ she said.

On his part, the Chairman of Board of Trustees of Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), said that President Buhari was contesting for second term to save Nigeria from unpatriotic set of people.

Ali however, charged members of the Buhari Support Organization to re-double their efforts to ensure that the President was re-elected (NAN).

Celebrities / 'I Am Depressed' - Comedian Ankara Gucci Cries For Help! by rajiaishat(f): 12:19pm On Jan 04, 2019
A Nigerian Instagram comedian popularly known as 'Ankara Gucci' who joined the Nigerian Navy in 2018 has cried out saying he's depressed.

According to him, 'I'm in serious pain. And I am in a great fear because I am not able to focus on my comedy career like before. I am typing this with tears and a lot of depression'.

See his story below....

Hello everybody. I need to talk to all of you. No much introduction. You all that are following me knows me already! What I love doing is comedy and to always make you laugh. You all know that. I never want to type this but I can’t just hold it anymore.
I'm in serious pain. And I am in a great fear because I am not able to focus on my comedy career like before. I am typing this with tears and a lot of depression. If not everybody. I know that some of you knows that I am a NIGERIA NAVY PERSONAL. but before I joined this job, I did not think so deep and I was carried away because of some lies I was told.
Let me keep that for now! I thought as I joined the job I would get more peace but not knowing that I actually sold my peace away. I thought I would be able to do my comedy and acting together with the navy job but it’s not just easy to cope with both. I joined this NAVY on the 7th of March 2018 if you remember very well and I come back to you guys on the 8th of September after I finished my 6month malicious training.
Those that knew me as a celebrity on the training ground those days called me a fool and told me I did not plan well before joining. I was just so depressed those days. And I moved on with faith. Because I just wanted to finished the training and know what next if I would be able to cope with my acting career and the navy. To say the fact . This job has given me a lot of respect but all the same. You guys don’t know wat I am feeling.
Let me tell you the truth. Not that I have the time. Some times I would just sneak out of my office and change up to do videos for you my fans just to remain consistent and never to make you forget Your ANKARAGUCCI. So these days, a captain in the Navy threatens me a lot and told me to pick one. Am I choosing navy or entertainment? That if I am to do the navy Job I must leave acting or else ........... or else what please? for what ? For crying out loud.
I can’t leave this comedy alone. It’s what I have passion for. I have a lot of advert skit now that I never shoot and I lost my Samsung s7 edge last week. I also lost my 31 skits on it .just need to get a solution ASAP. I am not an happy man.

Politics / APC Blasts Atiku, PDP Over Probe Demand by rajiaishat(f): 1:24pm On Jan 03, 2019
The President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation (PMBCO) yesterday slammed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate for insisting that the president’s relations used his influence to acquire Etisalat and Keystone Bank shares.

In a statement yesterday, the campaign organisation said it was baffling that despite refutal by Etisalat and Keystone Bank investors, the PDP was still demanding for a probe.

The statement signed by the Council’s spokesman, Festus Keyamo (SAN) reads: “The widely published refutal by investors in Etisalat and Keystone Bank that the family members of President Muhammadu Buhari have nothing to do with both companies is another indication of the fast-collapsing campaign of the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and that of the PDP.

“The result of the fact-check which was published in some news outlets clearly shows the depth of desperation, deceit and debauchery to which the Atiku campaign has sunk. They have no moral compass, no scruples, no direction in their present attempt to smear just everyone in sight in order to run a campaign of ‘we are all corrupt’.

“Rather than respect the feelings of Nigerians by offering clear-cut responses to straightforward allegations of tax evasion, ‘alleged’ grand corruption in and out of office, ‘alleged’ impending sealed indictment waiting for him in the United States (U.S.), Atiku Abubakar has decided to drag the world down with him as he goes down in a blaze of infamy.

“He has decided to go wild with wild and unsubstantiated allegations against the President and the vice president throwing caution in to the wind in the process. We alerted the public about this impending avalanche of fake news a few days ago. This is the classic hallmark of a sinking campaign boat, clutching at straws, as Nigerians have woken up to the realisation that these are deceitful people who have nothing to offer.

“That is how its vice presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, was reeling out false statistics with a straight face throughout the vice presidential debate. Till today, he has not apologised to Nigeria for taking them for a ride. It is a real shame.”

Keyamo urged Atiku and the PDP to apologise to Nigerians, especially the family of the President for adopting the unwholesome tactics and telling tales by moonlight that have clearly backfired.

He said: “The public space is now full of jokes about President Buhari buying the whole of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, the National Stadium and even the Presidential Villa.”

He advised the PDP and its flag bearer thus: “instead of making a mockery of a serious campaign with such infantile lies, Atiku should admit it is all over for him and the PDP, throw in the towel and endorse the candidacy of President Buhari.

“We would be sad to see that happen because democracy desires a healthy contest, a serious challenger and a competent opposition.

“But as it is, with nothing more to campaign about, it is the only way for him and his party to save face and sill retain some modicum of honour before the Nigerian people for future engagements –that is if they survive this massive rejection by the Nigerian people as a result of their bare-faced lies.”

Politics / How PDP ‘ll Get Nigeria Working Again, By Obi by rajiaishat(f): 10:34am On Jan 03, 2019
THE Atiku Abubakar administration will “concentrate on project implementation to a measurable level Nigerians would see, feel and appreciate”, his running mate Peter Obi said yesterday.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate said the problem with Nigeria was more due to inefficiency in programme implementation rather than policy formulation.
Obi, who spoke during a live interview on Channels TV, said: “This APC government has for long formulated different, beautiful policies, but the problem is with implementation.
“The Atiku Government would concentrate on project implementation to a measurable level Nigerians would see, feel and appreciate.”
On how many megawatts of power Atiku government would add, Obi, who insisted that four years was enough for meaningful improvement in the sector, said there was a clear roadmap that would be discussed in details during longer programmes.
The PDP vice presidential candidate criticised the present government for its lack of proper projects implementation and transparency, saying that the quantum of money already said to have been borrowed did not match the projects that were actually executed.
He added that the problem is not with borrowing, but actually utilising the money borrowed for productive projects rather than in consumption and waste, as rampantly witnessed in Nigeria till today.
“To get Nigeria working again, the inefficiency, incompetence and anti-people policies that have long characterised the APC-led government of Nigeria must be reversed,” Obi said.

Education / Govt, ASUU Resumes Talks Next Monday by rajiaishat(f): 10:26am On Jan 03, 2019
THE Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are to resume talks on the lingering varsity teachers’ strike next Monday, ASUU’s National President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, hinted yesterday.
He, however, said that the union has not been briefed on the alleged payment of N15.89 billion to universities by the government, two months after it embarked on strike. Ogunyemi spoke in Lagos while reacting to reports that the Federal Government had on the eve of the New Year, released N15.89 billion to universities.
The report stated that the fund was for the payment of shortfall in salaries of universities.
He said: “Well, someone actually drew my attention to that newspaper report. I have not received any formal letter from Federal Government, conveying such information to us.
“The only information I got from the Minister of Labour this afternoon when we spoke was that they have done something concerning our demands; what they have done, I do not know.
“The other thing he told me was that there is going to be a meeting between us (ASUU) and government on Monday.
“It is only when we get to the meeting that we will be able to know what government has done and if it is okay by us, then we will convey same to our members who will now take the next line of action,” he said.
ASUU member had, on November 4, 2018, embarked on what they had described as ‘comprehensive, total and indefinite nationwide strike’ to press home their demands.
The lecturers were protesting against alleged non-implementation of agreements they entered into with the Federal Government in 2013 and 2017.
They were also agitating the poor welfare, poor funding, and general decay in education infrastructure, among others.
Since the commencement of the strike, members of the union had met with the Federal Government six times, to find a way forward to the issues, all ending in a deadlock.
