Politics / Breaking: Lawyers Ignore Nba’s Court Boycott Directive by rajiaishat(f): 9:04pm On Jan 29, 2019
Many lawyers in Abuja on Tuesday ignored Monday’s directive by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for legal practitioners to stay away from courts until the Executive reverses the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Visits to courts in Abuja on Tuesday revealed that fully robbed lawyers, turned up in court, ready to conduct businesses for the day.
The situation was the same in the Supreme Court (located within the Three Arms Zone), through the Court of Appeal (located also in the Three Arms Zone), the Federal High Court (in Maitama) and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitam.
Although most judges at the Federal High Court did not sit, with some said to be attending a seminar, Justices of the Supreme Court sat and conducted proceedings. So was the case in some High Court of the FCT visited.
Some of the lawyers spoken to said the directive by the NBA lacked the force of law. And since it was not an order of court, lawyers could choose to abide by it or disregard it where their client’s interest is at stake.
They argue that since the issue of the suspension of the CJN was already in court, the NBA and all other interested parties should allow the court reach a decision one way or the other.

Crime / Photos: 16-year-old Girl Given Out In Marriage To An Older 'demented' Man by rajiaishat(f): 8:49pm On Jan 29, 2019
An angry woman has slammed the marriage between a young girl said to be 16 years old and a mentally unstable man in his late 50s, from a wealthy family in Ozubulu, Anambra State.

Read her post as she shared on Facebook below;

This man in the picture carrying this girl on his leg is by name Izuchukwu Igwilo from the well known very rich Igwilo family in Ozubulu Anambra State. The man himself "Izuchukwu" is mentally unbalance. He is suffering from demented brain. He is not normal and at the same time he is a drunkard, and he will be at least 56 years old. Now his family wants to marry a wife for him and they got this small girl for him. A 16 years old girl, This girl is from a very poor family... POVERTY IS A VERY BIG BASTARD ...,
The family of this small girl did not waste time to hand over their daughter to Izu's family just because the Igwilo family are very rich. This girl is under age for Heaven sake. This is completely evil. Yes a big evil because Izu will not be the one to be servicing this girl because he can not do anything. This girl will turn to a sex slave to that family and the community ( Everybody will just be collecting their own share)
Devil shame on you.
I know that they brainwashed this girls family that the girl will take care of Izu's large share of land's and other properties, but that will not make them to destroy this little girls future.
Ndi Ozubulu come and defend ur self

Politics / Re: Deceiving Nigerians With Ethnicity, Religion Is Nonsense -buhari by rajiaishat(f): 8:21pm On Jan 21, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has described as “bloody nonsense” the penchant of some Nigerians to hide under the canopy of ethnicity and religion to perpetuate injustice and corrupt acts.
He made the remark while hosting his former staff who worked with him during his tenure as military head of state (January 1984-August 1985) on Sunday night at the State House, Abuja.
The President, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity Femi Adesina, said “Recourse to the smokescreen of religion and ethnicity “is just corruption, pure and simple.”
To justify his thesis, President Buhari went down memory lane, drawing lessons from his electoral battles at the courts in 2003, 2007, and 2011, where those who ruled against him were Muslims from the North, but those who defended him were Christians from the South.
His words: “I was recently forced to talk to somebody I respect a lot about Nigeria. I said in 2003, when I started out, complaints about presidential election used to start from the Court of Appeal. The president of the court then was my classmate in secondary school for six years. Himself, myself and Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, were classmates.
“My lawyer, Mike Ahamba, was Roman Catholic and an Ibo man. My first witness was in the box. Ahamba said he needed the register of voters in certain constituencies and states to prove that votes were just allocated, and not true reflection of what existed in the constituencies. He asked them to record his request and sign. They did so.
“When they came to give judgment later, the matter was not mentioned at all. In the panel was another Roman Catholic and Ibo, who raised his hand and said, this is what Buhari’s lawyer had said.

Politics / APC Kicks As Obasanjo Says Buhari Behaving Like Abacha by rajiaishat(f): 8:42am On Jan 21, 2019
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday, took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him and “his hatchet men” of running an autocratic government similar to the administration of the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha.

Obasanjo stated this in his 16-page statement titled, “Points for concern and action,” given to journalists in Abeokuta.

Nigerians witnessed imprisonment of the opposition and a vicious self-succession plan by Abacha between 1993 and 1998, when the dictator died.

Obasanjo said, “It is clear from all indications that Buhari is putting into practice the lessons he learned from Abacha. Buhari has intimidated and harassed the private sector, attacked the National Assembly and now unconstitutionally and recklessly attacked and intimidated the judiciary to cow them to submission.

“I was a victim of Abacha’s atrocities against Nigeria and Nigerians – high and low. At the height of Abacha’s desperation for perpetual power, he did not brook any criticism because Nigeria was seen as his personal property.

“You must go along with him or be destroyed. All institutions for ensuring security, welfare and well-being of Nigeria and Nigerians particularly the police, the military and the Department of State Services were abused and misused to deal with critics of Abacha and non-conformists with Abacha.

“Today, another Abacha era is here. The security institutions are being misused to fight all critics and opponents of Buhari and to derail our fledgling democracy. The EFCC, the police and the Code of Conduct Tribunal are also being equally misused to deal with those Buhari sees as enemies for criticising him or as those who may not do his bidding in manipulating election results. Criticism, choice and being different are inherent trademarks of democracy. If democracy is derailed or aborted, anarchy and authoritarianism will automatically follow.

“Today, as in the day of Abacha, Nigerians must rise up and do what they did in the time of Abacha. Churches and Mosques prayed. International community stood by us Nigerians.

“God of Nigeria is a living God and a prayer-answering God. Nigerians must cry out to God to deliver Nigeria. Here again, I have been threatened with arrest and extermination but I will not succumb to intimidation or threats.”

…says INEC lacks integrity, plotting to rig polls for APC

Obasanjo stated that he decided to speak on the state of the nation because he was concerned about the dangerous trend pervading the country.

He, however, came hard on the Independent National Electoral Commission describing its officials as people of no integrity.

Obasanjo stated, “Democracy becomes a sham if elections are carried out by people, who should be impartial and neutral umpires, but who show no integrity, acting with blatant partiality, duplicity and imbecility.

“For all democrats and those carrying out the process of elections, there must be the red line that must not be crossed in tactics and practices of democracy.

“I personally have serious doubt about the present INEC’s integrity, impartiality and competence to conduct a fair, free and credible election.”

The former President scolded INEC on its performance during the governorship election in Osun State last year, describing the rerun election as unnecessary.

He said, “The unnecessary rerun, if viewed as a test for general elections, would lead people to expect incidences of deliberately contrived, broken or non-working voting machines or card readers, confusion of voters as to their voting stations, inadequate supply of voting materials to designated places, long line to discourage voters and turning blind eyes to favour the blue-eyed political party of INEC because the commission’s hands will be tied to enable the hatchet men and women to perform their unwholesome assignment.”

He urged Nigerians to stop INEC from derailing the democracy through its action.

“The track record of the present INEC is fairly sordid and all men and women of goodwill and believers in democracy must be prepared for the worst from INEC and their encouragers and how to get Nigeria out of the electoral morass that the commission is driving us into. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. A battle long forewarned does not embroil the cripple nor catch him unawares,” he said.

The former President also called on the international community to resist Buhari’s alleged plan to rig the coming elections.

Obasanjo said, “From available intelligence, we have heard of how Buhari and his party are going about with his own self-succession project.

“They have started recruiting collation officers who are already awarding results based on their projects to actualise the perpetuation agenda in which the people will not matter and the votes will not count. It is the sole reason he has blatantly refused to sign the revised Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill into law.

“His henchmen are working round the clock in cahoots with security and election officials to perfect their plan by computing results right from the ward to local government, state and national levels to allot him with what will look like a landslide victory irrespective of the true situation for a candidate who might have carried out by proxy presidential debate and campaigns.”

He, however, advised the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Yakub Mahmood, to stand firm and carry out his duties with competence and unbending neutrality.

Speaking on the controversial INEC official, Amina Zakari, Obasanjo said the woman had become too controversial a figure to be able to give assurance of free, fair and credible elections for INEC.

We are studying the essay – INEC

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said, “(Response) not immediately my brother. We are studying the essay and we will respond appropriately at the right time.”

Crime / Re: Breaking: 15 Houses Burnt As Tiv, Jukun Clash In Makurdi by rajiaishat(f): 10:17pm On Jan 17, 2019
Several houses have been burnt in Abinsi town Benue State following a clash between Tiv and Jukun ethnic groups.
The clash is coming less than 12 hours after Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and his Taraba counterpart, Dairus Ishaku promoted peace through a book launch in Wukari, Taraba state.
Abinsi town is located on the busy Makurdi – Gboko federal highway, near the bank of River Benue in Guma local government area.
The clash, it was learnt, started around 6:30pm. But there was no confirmation of death or casualties as at the time of filing this report.
An eyewitness Peter Uke told The Nation about 15 houses belonging to Tiv and Jukuns have been razed down.
Uke said the violence started among suspected cults groups but later turned to an ethnic clash between Jukun and Tiv people.
Ortom and Ishaku on Wednesday launch a book at Federal University of Wukari, in Taraba state to promote peace between Tiv and Jukun.
But the latest clash has fuelled suspicions the two ethnic nationalities might not be ready for peaceful co-existence.
There was traffic gridlock on the busy Makurdi – Federal Highway as passengers traveling along put up for police arrival.
Our correspondent gathered the new Commissioner of Police Omololu Bishi, who is barely two weeks in the state, has been mobilising his men to bring the situation under control.
