Sport journalist, Bunmi Ashebu dies after months of battle with stage 4 'duct cancer'

42 year old sport journalist, Bunmi Ashebu has passed on months after a public appeal to raise funds for her cancer treatment abroad.

Late Bunmi was diagnosed with stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma. A very rare form of bile duct cancer that had spread to her liver on the 23rd of May, 2018 and since then her life had not remained the same.

When she was initially diagnosed, she was taken to a German hospital for treatment but after 6 weeks, she began reacting to the chemotherapy and her organs were failing and on the 20th of August, 2018; she was told that she had one week to live.


She fought and lived on till she died yesterday.Feb. 12th. May her should rest in peace.

There is a plot to orchestrate a crisis and trigger panic among the populace, the Federal Government alleged yesterday, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of planning the trouble.
It said the plot is in furtherance of the opposition party’s plan to discredit the election and cause a constitutional crisis.
The government, however, urged the international community to ignore the plot to discredit Saturday’s poll before it is conducted.
The government, which made the claims in a statement in Abuja by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed, said PDP bigwigs, including its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, his running mate Peter Obi, PDP governors and others, were planning a world press conference to level frivolous and unfounded allegations against the government.
The statement said: “With just a few days to the presidential and National Assembly elections, the Federal Government has alerted the nation to the last-minute desperate plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to orchestrate a crisis and trigger a sense of panic among the populace, in furtherance of their plan to discredit the election and cause a constitutional crisis.
”The plot confirms the alarm raised by the Federal Government on Jan. 21st and Feb. 3rd 2019 that the PDP is planning to scuttle the election and, where that fails, discredit it.
“In the days ahead, PDP bigwigs, including its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, his running mate Peter Obi, PDP governors and others, are planning a world press conference in order to level frivolous and unfounded allegations against the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

An Anambra-based makeup artiste was reportedly stabbed to death while out for an early morning jog in Awka, the state capital on Monday February 11th.
According to a friend of the deceased, Chibuike Igwe, who shared the story online, Oluchi who is a popular makeup artist in the state, was stabbed to death by suspected armed robbers who carted away with her phone
She died instantly. Her remains has been deposited at the mortuary.
Taking to his Facebook page to mourn her, Chibuike wrote
''What a wicked world. Can you believe she is no more. The pictures attached to this post is my friend, a smart hard working lady with great sense of humor .. She was stabbed to death while doing early morning exercise. The persons/people that did this to you will know no peace forever. #Blackmonday . Am still shocked after confirming you are no more. RIP OLUCHI

TWO female members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Ebonyi State have become the latest victims of the pants-for rituals menace ravaging sections of the country.
The two corps members, it was gathered, were forced by some yet-to-be-identified unidentified hoodlums to remove their clothes, including their pants and hand them over to them (hoodlums). One of the corps members, who was on her period, had her blood socked pants and sanitary pads taken away by the hoodlums.
The incident, it was further learnt, happened at Oshiegbe community, near the boundary between Ohaukwu and Ezza North council area of the state. Police spokesman in the state, Loveth Odah confirmed the incident. She said: “On 5th of February, 2019, Female corps members reported to Divisional Headquarters in Ohaukwu council area to report that on their way coming from Ezillo in Ishielu council area to Abakaliki, a jeep stopped in front of them and asked them to pay N200 each to be conveyed to Abakaliki.
They entered”. According to the spokesman, on reaching 135 Junction, at Ezzamgbo, the men diverted to another direction and told them that they wanted to pick something from a teacher at St. Michael Secondary School, Ezzamgbo. “When they got to Os hiegbe community, at the boundary area between Ohaukwu and Ezza North council areas, the driver stopped and came down”. “He told them that he wanted to ease himself. He immediately went to the back door, opened the door and pointed a gun them; ordering them to come down and give them all their cloths including their pants.

Many are feared dead after fire gutted an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Monguno Local Government area of Borno state.
The fire started this afternoon and reportedly killed a number of children.
The number of casualties has not been provided at the moment.

The Anambra State Police Command have commenced investigation into the cause of the murder-suicide committed by a man identified as Daniel Okafor after bathing his wife, Pauline, with acid on Tuesday at Nsugbe, near Onitsha.
According to reports, the couple had been having disagreement concerning the choice of their son as the next of kin on a land and a house which was recently purchased by the wife.
Pauline, a nurse, bought the properties from her in-law and named their son as next of kin but this didn't go well with her husband who then decided to punish her. Pauline was in her place of work, a drug store, when the husband came in through the fence to bathe her with acid. She then ran out for help.

The suspect reportedly drank some of the chemical he had poured on his wife minutes after committing the crime. He was taken to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.
It was gathered that the victim was also referred to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, from the Immaculate Heart Hospital, Onitsha, where she is currently responding to treatment.

The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, says that President Muhammadu Buhari has fulfilled his campaign promise on the fight against corruption in the country.
Shittu made the assertion at the N-power Volunteers National Rally tagged, “ #Rave For Buhari # Energising the FCT 4 #Next Level, held on Wednesday in Abuja.
The minister said the ongoing anti-corruption crusade of President Buhari had restored the lost glory of Nigeria in the eyes of nations and repositioned the country for better.
He said before the inception of Buhari administration all Federal Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs) operated multiples accounts which made it easier for stealing and looting of public treasury.
“ But as soon as President Buhari came to power he gave directive for the migration of all MDAs account into Treasury Single Account (TSA) to ensure that government has total control of its resources.
“ TSA has help government to save more money for infrastructural development and social investment programmes that we all gather here to celebrate,“ he said.
Shittu said that within one administration, Buhari has engaged more than 500,000 youths in N-power, saying PDP never thoughts of initiating something like N-power throughout its 16 years in power.
The minister said that throughout the 16 years of PDP led administration, they had not invested in infrastructural development like during the three and half years of Buhari.
According to him, in 2017 alone, Buhari led Federal Government has spend no fewer than 275 billion on federal roads constructions.

The police in Ogun state have arrested 47-year old housewife, Joy Egeonu, for allegedly beating the 11-year nephew of her husband to death on allegation that the deceased stole her N6,500.

The suspect was arrested following a report by the deceased’s mother, Ijeoma Egeonu who reported at Agbado Divisional headquarters that her son who was living with her elder brother and his wife at Opeilu in Agbado was beaten to death by Joy on February 3rd over an allegation that the boy, Chibuike Egeonu stole the sum of N6,500 belonging to her. Egeonu added that the suspect later took the corpse of the boy to Ifo where she hurriedly buried him.

Landlady’s son on the run after raping tenant’s daughter, 5, through the anus and vagina

A young man is currently on the run after raping a 5-year-old girl through the anus and vagina.
The man, who is the son of the landlady, raped the daughter of a tenant at No. 47 Erede Street, Ekerube in Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos.
The man lured the victim into his apartment, pulled her underwear and penetrated her both through her private and anus. He then warned the girl not to tell her parents or he will kill her.
His evil action was discovered when the girl's mother was bathing her and the girl wouldn't allow her to touch her private part due to pains. Her private part was then checked and it was discovered that she had been abused. It was also discovered that she had been penetrated via the anus too.

President Muhammadu Buhari threw a jibe at former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday. He said he was only seeking a second term and not a third term.
The former president is believed to have sought the elongation of his tenure in the twilight of his administration in 2017.
What became the “Third Term Agenda” collapsed when the National Assembly threw out the Constitutional Amendment into which it was inserted.
Speaking at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park in Akure, the Ondo State capital, venue of the APC campaign rally for his re-election, President Buhari, who did not mention Obasanjo’s or anybody’s name, said:
“We have just finished one term and are seeking a second one, and after that, the constitution doesn’t permit anymore,” Tolu Ogunlesi, a Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, quoted him as saying.
He went on: “There are some who tried looking for more but they did not succeed. We should learn from their mistakes.”

A 3-month-old baby, Mohammed Sani, was burnt to death in a fire outbreak in Kano on Tuesday February 5th.
According to reports, Mohammed's parents lived in a two-bedroom apartment at Sheka Yar’ Kasuwa in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano where the fire started.
The mother of the child was the only one at home and had run out of the house in search of help from neighbours when the fire started. Unfortunately, the child died in the raging fire before men of the state fire service could contain it.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was a worse dictator than General Sani Abacha, when he was in office.

Oshiomhole said this in an interview with Channels TV when he was reacting to a recent statement by former President Obasanjo in which he accused President Buhari of returning Nigeria to an era of late dictator, Sani Abacha, in which impunity reigned supreme.

Recall that Obasanjo in a 16-page letter titled, “Points for concern and action,” released in January, made some damning allegations against President Buhari. He alleged that the President was putting into practice, the lessons he allegedly learned from late General Sani Abacha.

Jamiu Olasheu, a 35-year-old Islamic cleric has been arrested alongside three others for being in possession of a human skull.

Two of the suspects: Teslim Ayeniromo, 45, and Sunday Kolade , 35, were accosted on a motorcycle, at Kofedoti area of the state, by a team of policemen attached to Agbara division. During a search, the human skull was discovered in a bag one of them held, consequent upon which they were whisked to the Police station.

During interrogation by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adegbite Omotayo, the suspects , claimed that the skull was given to them by one Micheal Osanyinbi, adding that they were on their way to deliver it to the Islamic cleric when they were intercepted.

Spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said, “They led the DPO to the house of the man who gave them the skull. The man in turn, led the police to the self acclaimed cleric’s house. The Islamic cleric has made confessional statement that he actually requested for the skull which Micheal Osanyinbi promised to get for him at N25,000 and an additional N1,000 for the motorbike man who will deliver it to him.

Buba Galadima while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics said the mammoth crowd seen at venues of recent APC rallies are charades, he claims that the people were paid to attend the presidential campaigns of the ruling party.

The spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign alleged that at “every campaign that Buhari goes to in an APC-controlled state, local governments are empowered with twenty to forty-five million naira to purchase people and bring them to these rallies, and suddenly Buhari starts addressing the crowd and they all disappear because they must fulfil the contract for which they were brought in “.

The Elder Statesman claimed that in Kaduna, Atiku gathered twice the number that Buhari gathered, adding that the same feat was experienced in Kano. “One Local Government rally by Kwankwaso is more than the global rally that was organised for Buhari after spending nearly one billion naira” Galadima said.

A 19-year-old lady has declared interest in the man with down syndrome, who married a minor in Ozubulu, Anambra state.
In a post on a Facebook group, Onuh Chisom Maryjane, slammed those insulting the man. She didn't spare the young nursing mother, Chinwe, either.
She also stated that she'll marry the man on the condition that his 'rich' family members, open up a business for her, buy her a car and credit her account.

EFCC arrests 19 yahoo yahoo boys in Ibadan, recover pants, charms and laptops (Photos)

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office have arrested 19 suspected internet fraudsters at Ologuneru Area of the metropolitan city of Ibadan and at Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

They are, Bamidele Ayodele Samson, Bamidele Philip, Tunji Oladapo Sowale, Bololaji Olalekan and Abdulrauf Abiodun.
Others are: Olaleye Pelumi, Anuokuwapo Olanrewaju, Paul Damilola, Olateye David Tobi, Arewa Adekunle Ibrahim, Oyesanmi Ayomikun Oluwaseun, Olaleye Israel, Adediran Kemisola, Omobolade Alarape and Olowolusi Oluwatomisin.

Male student apprehended after the boxers of his male classmate was found tied with a charm in his wardrobe

A 100-level student of the department of English Language in the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has been disgraced and handed over to the police after the boxers belonging to his classmate was found tied with charms inside his wardrobe in the school hostel on Monday January 28th.
According to students in the school, the boxers belonged to the representative of Pace Setters Hall of Residence Comrade Akinola Ayomide, popularly known as Mayegun. The underpants were found with Tunde, but popularly known as Zacchaeus
The students claim Zacchaeus is an internet fraudster, also referred to as yahoo yahoo, due to his questionable lifestyle.
Zacchaeus according to his classmates had boasted that he would buy a car before the year ends. There have been cases of missing boxes prior to when he was apprehended but the students had always found the missing boxers

Lassa fever has reportedly killed 50 people in Ondo state, leaving residents and medical practitioners worried.

Sources at the Federal Medical Center, FMC, Owo, revealed that the state government is struggling to curb the spread of the disease. A medical practitioner at the health facility revealed that the situation is almost beyond control adding that they have run out of space at the isolation ward where these patients are being treated.

Pleading anonymity, the source also revealed how a Lassa Fever patient “mysteriously” disappeared from the hospital.

She blamed the incident on the negligence of some of her colleagues.

Panel beater arrested for stealing pants belonging to his elder brother's wife in Ondo State (Photo)

A 25-year-old panel beater identified as Adejoh Ojonugwa has been arrested in Ondo State for stealing underwear belonging to his elder brother's wife.

He was apprehended by officers of Ondo State Police Command after the case was reported. The suspect was nabbed alongside one Prophet Olajide Ogunleye of the Celestial Church of Christ, Ibanujemidopin Parish in Uso Local Council Area of the state.

During interrogation with reporters, Ojonugwa, a native of Kogi State, said he only visited the prophet for spiritual cleansing as he needed a solution to his problem. Narrating his side of the story, he said: "I went to seek spiritual cleansing from Prophet Ogunleye and when I got there, he prayed fervently for me. In fact, he asked me about the job I do, and I told him that I am a panel beater, which has been my trade for a very long time.
